Happy Saturday!!! It took a while, but we got here. Sit back and enjoy a story or two.

Here are just a few things that didn't get the magnifying glass look here at the Ace of Spades.

Have a great weekend. Enjoy the open thread, it's slippery so no running with sharp objects. Play nice.

16 I just read the ONT so can I mention one thing? The WaPo specializes in fake news, as we all know, and sometimes the fakery is in how they pitch a set of facts in a story (instead of just making up fake facts). For a good example, look at the Heroin Deaths Exceed Gun Deaths article (convenient link below, from ONT).

Looking at the charts, which picture the increase in deaths from 1999-2015 I noticed most of the increase has occurred in the second half of the range, 2008-2015.

Well, that certainly is inconvenient! Those were the Obama years. Cursed years apparently, in every way. Anyway, look especially at the second chart, showing deaths by type of opioid, and you can see the data displayed eve more dramatically. Most of those drug users are probably poor, urban young people but, as we heard repeatedly from Chris Christie in the campaign, the disaster has spread to poor young people everywhere and the problem is the leading cause of death even among the young in New Hampshire.

SCOAMF's administration was a disaster for the poor and the young. Among others.

33 Legend tells of a creature most phantasmagorical, from the depths of Hell. A creature with the horns of a goat, the body of a catamount and the legs of a hippopotamus. A tail like Satan himself. Eyes that burn red like fiery coals in the darkness. The sounds that emanate from the creature's throat are half guttural, half screech. A hyena-like laugh alternates with a condescending snarl. This beast has a hunger that comes from a deluded past and a cloudy future; a hunger that can only be satisfied with raw power. The beast prowls the backwoods and exurban wilderness of the Eastern United States on a quest that will never be fulfilled. This beast is known to the locals as...

Between the two I feel I dropped a couple of IQ points.

Hi bluebell! It went just fine, thanks! I was home by mid afternoon. I was asleep during the procedure, and the nerve block or whatever they gave me is starting to wear off so rubbery foot is now beginning to be painful foot. I'm starting to take the pain meds so my comments may go south and make even less sense than usual. Crutches are also proving to be a challenge!

101 'Morning, Horde. Happy Saturday.

Lots of squirrels here and they're fairly friendly but the deer are the best part. Four of them sauntered through my front yard this morning. When I opened the door to say "Good morning" to them, they looked at me for a few minutes and then meandered up the drive and across the road.

I'm not sure I understand all I know about this. People wander through every day carrying guns and bows. Either there are a lot of deer or these people are very poor shots.

Stairs presented a bit of a problem for sure. I went downstairs in the morning, and didn't go up or down again until the evening.

And just because I'm thorough, I broke my ankle on a Friday the 13th with a full moon. The only reason I know this is that the ER nurse made a point of telling me.

They took out a mass of tissue called a plantar fibroma. It's essentially a lump of gristle that grows on the plantar fascia on the bottom of your foot. It's only a problem if it gets too big - mine was about the size of a small marble - and becomes painful when pressed on when walking. It was just becoming sensitive and my foot guy said its better to get them sooner rather than later.

126 grammie, I think the "Russian hacking" they are investigating is with regard to the Wikileaks emails. Which helped Trump, no doubt, because they exposed what rats Podesta and his ilk are. As others have noted, the DNC has never said that the emails aren't real.

Hi creeper! I went downstairs hopping on one foot, one hand holding the handrail and the other holding both crutches. This is how the ER nurse told me to do it. I managed okay, but more than once I sent the crutches down first so I could have better control.

Going up the stairs - yep, on my bum. I had to do it when one of the kids was around so they could bring up the crutches.

Now discussions of the sanctity, or lack thereof, of putting carrot ketch'up on a hot dog will inflame threads across AoSHQ, further impacting Cheer (Holiday and otherwise) amongst The Horde.

166 they said to call the doctor if the disk didn't return to floppy after four hours.

Democrats have been fake news producers since they called McCarthy out, claiming "these are not the wookies/commies you are looking for". Finally the networks have gotten a little comeuppance, after years of trashing "Faux News".

Fox at least offered an alternative, but they are marginalized as well. Now social networks are working to shut down "fake news" that keeps revealing the left's propaganda machine.

The thing is, they are still powerful, and still working on massive immigration to defeat us via demographics. They will scream "racist" forever. Electing Trump is just establishing a beachhead. But at least patriots can come out of the foxholes.

Tomato ketchup being the only kind you can readily find is actually kind of an anomaly, considering you can expect to find at least three kinds of mustard in any grocery store you find yourself in. There are lots of ketchup varieties that just got left behind in favor of tomato. Mushroom ketchup was popular for years, but unless you make it yourself or pay $shipping from a UK expat store, you'll probably never see it. Worcestershire sauce could be considered a type of ketchup, for that matter.

None of them belong on hot dogs, though, if you're over the age of eight.

Posted by: grammie winger - Let Every Heart Prepare Him Room at December 10, 2016 09:05 AM (dFi94)

Not sure but I think this is part of the "fake news" push.

I think the DNC/Obama/Clintons are worried that the Russians/Chinese/whoever now have the goods on the whole lot of them and can screw up their plans simply by leaking info over the next few years.

There's no evidence of hacking the vote, so I believe they're worried about whether hacked info linfluenced the voters.

Of course, that's a yes.

However, if the MSM/media had actually done their jobs, that information would've already been readily available to the public. Horrible Hillary Clinton would not have been the Dim candidate and who knows how the primaries/general election would've gone.

Anyway, my guess is that they want a "yes, Russian hacking affected the general election" result for two reasons:

One, they can pre-discredit any further leaks as "perverting our democracy" or "destroying our system", so that the Dim Elite and Obama in particular can maintain their power (he didn't get OFA going for nothing. He"ll be trying to harm the country for decades. Yay!)

Two, they can say "the Russians hacked the election!!!111!!!" to their stupid, stupid, oh, so tremendously stupid voters who will think that they mean the Russians hacked the voting machines.

Thus, Trump was "selected by the Russians and not elected by the American people".

So, W squared insanity among the Dimtards.

Frankly, if I were Putin, I would release every bit of info I had on Obama once he's out of office to knock him off the playing field. Yeah, a racially troubled America can be beneficial for Russian ambitions, but an unstable America benefits no one including Russia. Plus it's a supreme alpha dog dick move which I bet appeals mightily to Putin.

Tough to negotiate stairs with the scooter though. It might be in the X-Games next year though.

Putin is a much different cat than Khrushchev or Brezhnev. My impression is of a much deeper thinker, of a sort that would be offended by Obama.

Since Hillary Clinton's security breach is so deep and severe, the US may well spend 20 years recovering from it, and changing protocols. Putin may well release everything to tie the US up in a scramble to reconfigure, and cut the feet out from under all the other competitors who also have that data and might be planning to use that leverage.

Put me in the "there are no inherent natures" category.

Humans are born selfish, and as a biological reflex everything we do is to serve a few simple purposes.

Then we start learning to be social animals, and one of the early lessons for MOST of us is that getting along with others is a good thing.

Some never learn. Or they unlearn it as they start experiencing the world, start to take personally that the world includes pain.

There are very very few straight up psychopaths in this world. Some, but few. Sadly, many of them go into politics. So it looks like "power corrupts," when it's really more accurate to say the pursuit/acquisition of power attracts the corrupted.

375 Speaking of "Keep Christ in Christmas" and Santa Claus, I heard something on Christian radio last night about the historical St. Nicholas. 376 HR, I make my bread more tender by adding either whole-grain flour, potato flakes or dry milk. I usually don't just do dry milk alone because that makes the bread dry up faster.
There is also tricks to make it raise faster by adding malt.

I have potato bread rising on the counter right now.

However, I don't really do pie crusts because my hands are too heavy and I can make a tough oil crust.

I can see that the vodka would boils and evaporate easier and faster leaving a more open texture.

390 Put me in the "there are no inherent natures" category.

Humans are born selfish, and as a biological reflex everything we do is to serve a few simple purposes.

Doesn't the second sentence contradict the first?
Posted by: the guy that moves pianos for a living at December 10, 2016 10:51 AM (x3uSY)

The way I said it sounds contradictory. What I meant was, calling it our "nature" overstates the case. It's a biological need for babies to be completely selfish, and then we QUICKLY grow out of it, over time becoming less and less selfish, because our learning shows us it's not the best way to operate in this world.

So it's not about unlearning a "nature," it's about adapting as we grow, which is much more accurately descriptive of our nature: We learn, we grow, we become more and more social and unselfish the more we learn.

I think our different perspectives here are more semantic than anything else.

I would suggest, organization and civilization ARE natural outgrowths of our being. And it's true that some communities of humans are organized BADLY, and therefore the learning that does take place is corrupt.

Early civilizations were much more egalitarian, and the greatest sin to be committed was often the unwillingness to participate in the greater good of the community.

Which is not to be confused with communism. For reasons probably not worth going into here and now.

You're not allowed to hunt near dwellings in most locales. Distance varies according local ordinances. Deer are pretty smart about such things. Not unusual to see them clustered near interstates (another no-hunt zone) around where we live.

You don't really have to overcome anything. If ensuring that your community (family, church, village, neighborhood, city, state, country) gives you the best opportunity to live happily, then helping the community is the selfish move.

So that original article or post I read yesterday was...fake news.

One of my favorite rock bands is Sonic Youth, and there is clearly a jazziness to their more meandering offerings.

And if anyone says SY is the most irritating, noisiest nonsense ever, I certainly wouldn't argue with them.

Unless they would say that about the song, "Teenage Riot," in which case they lose their right to speak on the topic.

469 Speaking of jazz and Miles Davis...

Certainly, one of the top five jazz concerts I've seen was in Hong Kong.

It featured David Sanborn's band as the opener. Very good, very Sanborny in that 80's SNLisn sax style.

next, the Pat Metheny Group, excellent esp when sticking with tunes like "Are You Going With Me?"
Methane himself is a bit too fond of the "doodley-doodley-doodley-doo" type of solo for my taste but everyone in that band could play.

Last, Miles Davis band.

Miles David comes out and stands around for a bit while the band plays around him, then puts his horn to his lips and plays...

three notes "toot-TOOT-toot". Just like that, then he stops, and turns his back to the audience.

a-a-a-and that's pretty much the whole show. Very once in a Davis would turn around , call a band member over, whisper in his ear then band member would nod then solo for a bit. Miles might jump in "toot-toot-TOOT-toOT" then nothing, maybe turn his back to the audience, maybe not.

Until...

the band played "My Funny Valentine" then Miles stepped to the front and played the most incredible solo I've every heard. Truly wonderful, melodic, intelligent, achingly beautiful, everything you want in a solo for roughly 6-10 minutes.

Then solo over. He turns his back to the audience. No acknowledgement at the audience applause at all. and as the band starts up on another song, he leaves.

End of show.

Thinking back, I'm pretty much convinced MD's show was one big Fuck You to the HK audience with that great solo being the final flip of the bird - as in "Yeah, I could've been playing like this the whole dang show, but fuck you, no."

Miserable human being. Shows over in Japan or HK featuring big American groups are hideously expensive. Those people payed a lot of their income to hear MD play, but hey, fuck you for coming to see me.

Posted by: naturalfake at December 10, 2016 11:33 AM (9q7Dl)

470 Rock musicians in the late 60s and 70s started playing longer songs with more intricate solos and jams. They were influenced by jazz, which was considered "serious" music, unlike the 3 minute singles that typified earlier rock music.

But on the radio I would often have to switch channels the last several seconds when the jazz artist is showing off by hitting multiple notes at once. I'm like the anti musical savant. Any more than one note at a time, or other complex shit is just noise to my ears.

One thing about it, we owe a huge debt of gratitude to WikiLeaks, Julian Assange, and Project Veritas/James O'Keefe.

No one with two brain cells believes anything coming our of the current administration or our of the Democrats. What many suspected but kind of convinced themselves may be tin foil hat thinking, has been proven to be true about both.

So Barky can order the CIA to investigate all he wants, no one will believe anything that comes out of it. Which in some ways is dangerous for the country. Even when the agencies are right, they still will be suspect.

So is the legacy of Obama and James Comey.

Yeah, "jazz" is a really big spectrum, like all the other musical genres. The Doors, The Sex Pistols, and Nirvana have almost nothing in common, even though they're all technically "rock". You could pull a random Bach and Brahms off the stack and even if you know nothing about "classical" music, you can tell that one of these things is not like the other. Johnny Cash and John Prine are good stuff, but I won't tune the radio to a contemporary C&W station. I'll listen to Glenn Miller or the Andrews Sisters or Louis Armstrong all day, but not the stuff where someone has all the notes in a particular key and is just randomly throwing them at the wall to see what sticks, even though they're all "jazz".

That's what he said. Verbatim. A "ye olde SCOAMF classic", if ever there was one.

Clinton lost 4 states (FL, MI, WI, PA) by ~1 point. If not for Comey/Russia, she probably wins them all by ~2 points & strategy looks great.

520 It seems the Russkies hacked both the DNC and the RNC, but only released the DNC emails. The embarrassing anti-Bernie, anti-Catholic, racist, and condescending nastiness from the Dems (but not the GOPe) supposedly caused Hillary to lose.

No. the news reports say NOTHING about the content of the emails. No, it is the horrible idea that someone could hack into emails and just that hack programmed the minds of voters to vote for Trump. The Russians send mind altering waves through the hacking of the DNC emails that caused brain wave distortion of the voters causing them to behave bizarrely and vote for Trump instead of Democrat.
Chuck Schumer is appalled that a foreign government could possibly do this. He has said nothing about Hillary's private server that was hacked , that she knowingly and willingly exposed to those same "foreign governments"

Here is his speech:

The WaPo defended this claim by saying the terror attacks on our soil weren't specifically planned by ISIS or al Qaeda, but instead were of the "self-radicalized lone wolf" variety, despite emails going back and forth in many instances between the terrorists and the organizations, travel by many of the terrorists to conflict regions, unexplained sources of financing beyond their means (like in San Bernardino and in Orlando), reported co-conspirators never caught (as in San Bernardino), etc etc.
