Ms. Kelly you aren't used to the public pointing the finger at YOU, are you? You think that just because you are labeled as 'the press' you get a free pass to write and say and do anything without regard for honesty or even balance.
Try this one weird trick, Ms. Kelly: Take a story about Obama in the Washington Post. Rewrite it with the same verbs and adjectives used in a story about Trump. Then see how you feel.
Is the press biased? Do they inject their opinion into the stories they are writing? Do they dump stories that they feel won't push a certain narrative? Have there been big news stories that haven't been covered thoroughly in the major newspapers and on the major networks?
If I can see it, then why can't you, Ms. Kelly?

All that happened was Rachel Maddow was getting more viewers than she was toward the end of the campaign.

Salena Zito, whose work I generally find interesting, went on a twitter whine a bit back about how she was at a Trump rally and a woman wanted to know if she was with CNN and if so she was going to spit at her and Zito got her panties in a bunch about it.
It never once occurred to her that maybe, just maybe, CNN has acted in such a manner that its reporters deserve to be spat upon. This notion that the media can demean and disparage people with no consequences is absurd.
I play with words for a living and have for longer than I care to admit. As a result, I understand that words are not everything. Some problems can be solved with words. But others? Nope.
We can draft you a sales agreement dividing up the family business. We cannot draft anything that solves the underlying issues that resulted in family members being unable to be in the same room when it comes time to sign that agreement.
Reporters can bleat about how they should be respected. But no amount of words can make me respect someone whose actions are contemptible.

Pro-tip. Go to Ohio State to give a speech. Say that you will personally donate $100 million to their endowment. And that will be matched by the State of Ohio. And doubled by the Feds. Enough to reduce tuition for all students by $XXX, each year, every year, in perpetuity. In exchange you are asking for one thing - admissions based on grades and test scores only, and dropping all diversity based classes/training/quotas.
Point out to the students that bragging rights for the administration at a cocktail party is worth more to them that decades of their debt...or their very lives.

Good point. Every individual reporter has a personal bias, and every media outlet is going to have a cultural bias, its just human nature. The danger is that outside of talk radio and with internet some of the blogs all of the media bias has been towards marxism AND they succeeded for a while in selling the con that they were neutral.

I actually admire the journalist that struggle for true objectivity. Just reporting the facts without coloring it. The problem is...that's HARD. And it doesn't conform to the editorial narrative anymore.
Once the news media decided to entertain instead of report, once it decided it wanted to, was entitled and expected to INFLUENCE things, the rot began.

As soon as the Internet opened up those borders, the writing was on the wall. The only question became, "How long will the giants last?"
If they had actually been as dedicated to objectivity and "afflicting the comfortable while comforting the afflicted" (which I know is actually a form of yellow journalism, but natch), then we'd be looking at, probably, a few more decades of unquestioned dominance as smaller outlets tried to match the levels of trust built over the course of previous decades.
Instead, they went whole hog for one side of a political argument. They reacted to competition very very badly.
Until Democrats actually end up repealing the First Amendment, we're going to have a free press in this country. Just because it's not dominated by a group of corporations that don't know how to put together a good product doesn't mean that the world of journalism is ending. Just the old way of doing things.

I think the way it'll all end up breaking out is a faster, digitized version of newspapers in the early 19th century.
Highly politicized, tribal and with voices coming and going with fair regularity.
I'd be completely okay with a news organization becoming a mouth piece of the sitting president, as long as it was obviously so.
Let the biases fly and let them be known. Maybe it worked better back in the day because the federal government was less involved in our day to day lives, but who knows?

Just today the Republican House reps managed to fend off any punishment for the IRS over targeting Tea Party groups. It is like they want angry mobs to turn up and start burning the Capitol down to the ground. They never, ever stop and think about what their job is and why they are there.
