Millennials Upset About New TV Show That Says They Get Upset About Everything

By total coincidence I watched two earlier episodes of the Great Indoors last night. It's pretty harsh about Millennials -- they're effeminate, they're lazy, they're addicted to their phones, they want participation trophies just for "trying really hard," they're arrested development children, they get their feelings hurt by everything, etc.

After the main character made a Millennial cry, he was taken to a meeting with Human Resources and corporate counsel. The Human Resources woman explained that Millennials are very "fragile" (I think that was the word) and that their are actual corporate consultants who train corporations about how to work around their fragility. (And that's an actual true fact.)

The Human Resources person (and older woman) then expressed her desire, if I remember right, to slap Millennials around until they stopped being crybabies.

I don't know if I can recommend the show (or any TV show). But it is, honest to God, pretty damn harsh towards Millennials. To the point where even I winced, I hate them.

Anyway, Michael Walsh posts about Millennial reporters getting butthurt about a show that says they get butthurt about everything.

I don't think the show's going to last -- a couple of years ago ABC did a similar show about Millennials and social media addiction called Selfie. It was pretty good, but four shows in, and they had pretty much exhausted all the jokes they could do about that limited-in-scope critique premise, and they just turned into another office workplace sitcom. The ratings, which had never been good, got worse, and it was cancelled after like eight episodes.

The Great Indoors is burning through its Millennial joke material at a very high, um, burn rate, and I imagine that by episode six it will also be just another workplace sitcom with the Millennial bashing only occasionally mentioned.

It's an interesting cultural moment, though -- maybe people are sick enough of this crap by now to enjoy a show mocking it to the extent they hadn't been when Selfie was on.

Interestingly, even though series star Joel McHale appeared in pro-Hillary ads and seems to be a liberal douchebag, maybe even he's had his fill of the Millennials.

Another incensed millennial reporter later rhetorically asked: "Do you want millennials to watch your show? Cause you come out here and said 'Ha, ha, ha, millennials are so sensitive and PC,'", branding his comments "so negative".

The Great Indoors co-star Joel McHale interjected that if the show is offending millennials, it is "the best strategy ever".

Generalizations are just that, and there is a kernal of truth to most of them. Generations have certain characteristics that is not meant to be an indictment on all within that generation. But there is no doubt that millenials are a unique generation that the other generations are having a tough time adjusting too in the workplace. Unfortunately the sheer size of the generation means that the rest of us will have to figure out a way to navigate such adjustment.

A tough pill to swallow about God and something conveniently overlooked by American Christians is that everybody suffers, but some much more than others. God did not send his only Son to die on the Cross for our sins to help those fortunate enough to not be suffering and the wealthy, quite the opposite of the Suburban Christ figure in the USA.

It is the DUTY of Christians who are blessed with little suffering to offer everything they have to ease the suffering of their brothers and sisters. it is harder for the wealthy and fortunate to get into heaven than those that are suffering.

It's a message of empathy and taking care of each other, something this country as a whole is lacking.

Elvira's fashion sense is way more modern than would be seen in WWII plus the whole grope the Princess and Izetta scene. Then on their mission to Britannia, Lord Redford puts both of them in the same bed so we have the girls in nightgowns holding hands looking at each other so all I hear is every Doujinshi Circle in Japan going "I know what to do with this!"

I am enjoying Kaiju Girls and The Heroic Legend of Arslan TV series.

Valkyria Chronicles as an anime is one of my favorites. And not because of the Blue Witch.

And some of 'em weren't Millennials, but looked closer to my age. Made me sick to my stomach.

And this was funny. As I was leaving, I stepped out of the exam room and the doc was walking behind me. In the hall we encountered some mother bringing in her young son, looked about 1st grade age or so. The doc spoke to him, and said hey son, say high to Mr. [publius] here.

So, I said, "Hey, little buddy, shake hands" and stuck my hand out to him. He jerked away and ran down the hall. So I scare the hell out of little kids.

It was funny, but the mother laughed too. Now, I remember when I was a little kid, if I'd have acted like that, my mother wouldn't have been laughing. Well, she would have laughed nervously, and then chewed my little ass out when she got me alone.

232 I watched some of this show (a longer trailer, maybe?) and found it viciously entertaining. Millennials - or at least their douchebag poster children - deserved to be relentlessly mocked.

Can one really run out of material? I doubt that. After all, comedy is formulaic to begin with, and look at some of the other comedies that ran a long time. If you develop sympathetic characters (including among the millennials, as sad-sack as they are) you can run many iterations on the same themes, and maybe even get one or two of them to redeem themselves.

Heh, as a former World of Tanks player, I saw the series thru a different eye than you might have. That being said, it was a land-mark anime that got people to watch it who had no previous interest in the genre.

Silly story premise, alt-earth history, great (engaging) characters, and lots of in-jokes from unexpected directions. And rumor has it, a follow-up season.

And managed to give the Italians a staring role ;-) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cNA9e9ESX7s (from the Anzio OVA) ...sorta.

246 I watched a few episodes of this yesterday after I saw a picture of a very pretty British woman who is one of the stars.

It's not very funny aside from the Millennial "bashing" (which actually struck me as fairly mild overall), and, for Joel McHale it must be downright painful as a successor to the brilliant (at its peak) "Community."

247 Joel McHale has the look of a guy who would make fun of liberals.

There was also another short-lived show The Goode Family, by the creator of King of the Hill.
This had an earnest liberal father and his wife who is not liberal but in her social circle everyone else is, so she achieves social status by trying to out-liberal everyone. She goes to Whole Foods, and forgot her reusable bag, so to not look bad in front of her friend, she declares the bags are made in sweatshops and takes the groceries by hand. They have a kid named Ubuntu who they adopted from Africa, but their plans were foiled when the baby ended up being white because he was from South Africa.
Also ran out of steam, but was hilarious. Particularly where they have some lesbian friends over as status symbols, and they are redneck gun owners.

The Human Resources person (and older woman) then expressed her desire, if I remember right, to slap Millennials around until they stopped being crybabies.

This is the part that doesn't ring true. An HR person wanting to be tough on Millennials? Please. The reason the Millennials get away with being crybabies is because HR drones will EEOC curbstomp anyone who makes a Millennial weep.

249 Ace could you please fix this typo, it is terrible: (their)
"The Human Resources woman explained that Millennials are very "fragile"
(I think that was the word) and that their are actual corporate
consultants who train corporations about how to work around their
fragility."
