Mid-Evening Thread With Generic Title

Good. Shut your drug-addled, totalitarian-apologist, drivel-spewing pie-hole.

Oh, and:

HILLARY CLINTON WILL NEVER BE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

[Update --OregonMuse]: I hope CBD doesn't mind me elbowing my way onto his thread, but now that he's mentioned that Hillary will never be president, these videos are worth watching.

First, the original British TV advert:

And now, the amateurishly photoshopped, but hilarious, parody:

Almost forgot: (h/t to RushBabe for the videos)

Bravely ran away away
When danger reared its ugly head
He bravely turned his tail and fled
Yes, brave Sir Robin turned about
And gallantly he chickened out
Bravely taking to his feet
He beat a very brave retreat
Bravest of the brave, Sir Robin!

10 Repost with name corrected:

An organization I follow on Twitter is saying a guy with an "assault rifle" (usually code, for the person has no idea what they're talking about) has entered Comet Ping Pong the "victim of fake Clinton-trafficking story" (their exact words).

Not seeing that on FaceBook or Weasel Zippers, or anywhere else on Twitter and "assault rifle" make me wonder as well. Anyone else seeing a report to the same affect anywhere else?

Depends what you mean by civil war. The guys going cop hunting probably aren't on anyone's payroll, so there's not really any way to send a stand down order even if Hillary and Soros wanted to. But I don't think there are enough of them to count as a war (unless you are or know a police officer).

The masses of 'protestors' blocking traffic at various locales are paid by the hour and once the money's not there, they go home (or better to jail).

Yeah. I'm trying to figure out how far I can push this "it's OK to have some carbs if you don't eat for 16-17 hours straight each day" thing, but I already know it's more than "not at all." Even if it means that I can reacquaint myself with bread and noodles and rice and taters only on the weekend, that's a big plus. Still steer clear of sugar for the most part, though, except as a small addition to recipes.

Western Europe has very generous social programs, and these people do not necessarily have any skills; they may spend their lives in Italy on the dole. Your grandparents more than likely came here and worked.

Also... the US was never a single nationality with a single language, like those in Europe. Even though your family experienced discrimination, they were productive members of society. I'm not sure these so called refugees will be anything but a burden.

Just so. I can't remember who it was (Larry Correia?) who likened the Progressive Herd to a school of fish. Perfect. They all go in the same direction, reassured by the presence of the others. If one twitches and goes in another direction, they all have to quickly decide whether to follow suit, or leave that fish behind.

Fish do that by instinct. Progressives use the front page of the New York Times.

Existing outside the swimming school of fish is simply unthinkable.

doesn't this HELP the EU? Wasn't Italy a net monetary drain? Or is it

---
It was a net monetary drain, like almost everyone in the EU (which is one of the bigger problems of the EU). However, that drain occurred as the result of Euro denominated loans that almost certainly go into default (because Italy has no way to cover them) once it leaves.

Plus there's the same problem we face with the the dollar becoming not the world's reserve currency (eventually, and they way things go it may not happen after all), if lots of folk are using your currency, and suddenly not nearly so many are using it, the value of that currency tanks. Which snowballs as others depart the EU.

I knew King was a big honking lefty, but I always thought he was more sensible than to suck up to dictators. Was he a Castro fan or something? That surprises me. He doesn't come across as that dumb. Well, as a grown-up, anyway -- I wouldn't be shocked if he was a typical Castro-worshipping leftist nutter in his youth.

But more so than with other generations, I give boomers a pass for believing crazy things when they were younger. They grew up with no Internet, only three networks, and at best, two local newspapers, all of which spouted a reliably leftist line in unison. It may seem incredible, but even their "Greatest Generation" parents, with fewer sources of information, generally had access to a more diverse spectrum of opinion during their formative years.

Fravoire? The end of the EU, basically. The EU consisted of France, Germany, and Great Britain with a bunch of little countries clustered around them. Losing two of those would fold it, or just turn it into a German empire.

Long story which I filled the Horde in on last week. Took their advice.

Cliff Notes version: widow I've known nearly 5 years, was serious with, didn't work, tried other times to work, didn't, keeps recontacting me, again last week, finally let slip enough info for me to figure out with a little research not only was her name a complete fake, she is NOT a widow, but married, and not only that, but still married to the guy she's been telling me for years was dead.

And plenty of other stuff that apparently is fake as well. Someone I had loved and trusted. So yeah, it's gonna take a while.

Other people can detect self-loathing and they don't find it attractive. If you're not on an antidepressant, ask your doctor for one. Try it and see how it makes you feel.

I still see 1990s era movies and later find out that they were based on his fiction, and I'd never have known if I hadn't looked them up. 329 L, Elle,

Thanks. At this point I'm kinda in a foul mood about the whole thing, but kind words are nice to hear.

Rhomboid,

No range time. I bought a year pass at an indoor range in Oxnard, but I haven't had time to go down there. I'm going to try to do that on Tuesday. The problem is that they don't open until 11am, so if I wait I generally don't end up studying as much as I should and waste part of the day.

I did go to Rahaagen's (sp?) a month or so ago with Gushka's hubby. That was fun, although pricey and quite a wait. The nice thing was that I could back my truck right up to our lane and unload everything.

While stationed at Norfolk, I was married to a woman who lived in Virginia Beach. Learned later what a big drunk she was. Looked kinda like Natalie Wood, though. Yeah I know. Anyway when I told her I didn't want her going to the Oceana 'O' club to 'dance' with her friends, she said that amounted to spouse abuse. Turns out she and her friends were known for their blowjobs at the club. Airdales. Her previous husband was a Major in the AF, so I guess a Seabee CPO was a step down for her. Heh.

King's a strong meat and potatoes writer, which works well for the tales he tells.

I think what's hurt him as an author is the usual leftist thing- he's come to believe his politics are as important as his storytelling and they ain't.

Or perhaps, he's convinced himself that his literary output isn't enough of a "legacy" so he's upping his value among Our Betters by becoming a leftist lapdog.

Either way...

Sad.

336 True, Italy has changed governments since WWII like a Hollywood starlet changes boyfriends - and with about as much consequence for the world.

But this little thing may be different. Since it's linked to mass illegal migration (and Italy has had its own version of this that predates Merkel's catastrophic idiocy by a decade - Albanians and Libyans and a few others, mostly concentrated in a few southern cities).

But the EU part is sort of funny. Italy and Spain are far past insolvent for several years now, and remain afloat mostly because of German/EU shenanigans with finances. So the mix of incentives when it comes to EU things seems rather muddied.

You mean heterosexuals, or what?
Posted by: Splunge at December 04, 2016 08:03 PM (iMxBJ)

Fosse wasn't gay, although he's revered by gay performers.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Saying that Bob Fosse was "not gay" is really soft pedalling him. He was not only the last great heterosexual dancer/choreographer in Hollywood and on Broadway, he was also a raging and notorious womanizer (as the Fosse cypher in All That Jazz makes pretty clear) and slept with just about every chorus girl and leading lady he could get his hands on (which was most of them). I like all that Jazz ~ as I am sure you could all tell ~ but saying Fosse was not gay is like saying Hitler was just a guy who liked to be in charge.
Now ~ on to Mr. King ~ his early stuff was monumental in shattering the old and tired horror genre and making it new and relevant and something that was accessible. His prose was also, to say the least, excellent. Then came the slow slog downwards to mediocrity. I think someone said it above better ~ he hasn't written anything great in decades so who gives a rats ass if he drops out of site really. The being said ~ these celebs really do get my bile up ~ thinking they are so important that not only do they have to announce their presence with trumpets but they also think their leaving should be accompanied by pigeons being loosed.
"Don't go away mad Mr. King ~ just go the f*ck away."
360 Oh - and, BTW...RE:
I didn't know King was a Hillary supporter.
He's a deep-dyed-Lefty, native-Maine Progtard proto-reformer - how could he possibly, conceivably slam-dunk a ballot for anyone else? Even a wild-eyed wacko (similar to him emotionally, anyway) Green-O like Jill Stein?
The Early-On S.K. product had some truly original and highly-intriguing content - and were, often-enough, the kind of stuff that you want to be pretty careful about starting into late in the even-tide...unless you really savor wide-eyed insomnia and/or have nothing you really have any need to do the next day-to-24 hours. Then - he...kind of hit a "high-tide", with The Green Mile...and, he started to write - basically - simply variations on a single theme...and then went onto producing the same general story, over and over...
After his near-fatal "accident"*, he had a very long, rather-traumatic (apparently) recovery-time - and began writing extensively again as "recovery therapy". I've sampled his product, a bit, now and again since that time ( I had more or less given up on it at some point just about turn-of-the-century); seems spotty at best. YMMV...
(*It really wasn't all that "accidental" - in the sense that, if one is often on-foot [he was out jogging along the roadside when plowed into by the van] adjacent to narrow, undulating rural roads with narrow shoulders that are frequented by the sort of soused-up [head]space cadets more-or-less-directing rundown, badly-aged vehicles that are quite common nowadays, such getting-plowed-into is near-inevitable, whether it happens sorta-accidentally or because: Target Of Opportunity. The goof driving the van was not only 90% in the bag, his only "excuse" for being on the road at all was that he was supposedly headed for the local store for some candy bars - claimed he "veered a bit", 'cause he got distracted by his dog, or something like that.)
Churches are full of sinners and hypocrites. The difference is that we admit it and ask God to help us be better people.
You'll find lots of people struggling with addictions and various sins. You'll also find people who have done horrendous things and turned their lives around.
If God loves you enough to forgive you, then you can learn to forgive yourself.
Forgiving myself is something that I still struggle with, even though my sins are rather dull and ordinary.
Churches are all about relationships: first with God, second with others, and third with yourself.
Once you have a real relationship with God, the other relationships in your life tend to fall in line.
Posted by: Gene Parmesan at December 04, 2016 08:30 PM (M3DRt)
---
Well, tastes vary. When he's good, he's very good. His problem is that he can write whatever he wants and get it published, so he's got a lot of sub-par work weighing down the shelves; if he were a "normal" writer, most of that stuff would have ended up in the publisher's trash can.
I think he'd have a much better reputation if he weren't so hyper-successful and publishers found it easier to tell him "no." That way, the only "work" of his most people would ever be exposed to would be his best stuff. I think he probably knows that, too, at least in the back of his mind, which is why he's played around with writing under pseudonyms.
If I were ever to teach Sex Ed, It would consist of two parts:
For the guys: "Don't stick your dick in crazy"
For the girls: "You don't have a magic vagina"
IMHO, guys tend to view wrecks as a chance for crazy sex and no long-term commitment, while women look at wrecks and think that they can somehow fix him, keeping just enough of the dangerous stuff to make it interesting.
Yeah, me too. I was thinking about going to midnight Mass this year. My brother informs me that taking the Sacrament without going to confession is a mortal sin. I did not know this - or if I did, forgot. You know, when you're a kid, they throw so many rules at you.
So, he offered to help by printing out a guide to making a thorough examination of conscience and a good confession. I was astounded by what I found there. For example, under #5 "Thou shalt not kill" there is everything from not speaking out against abortion to driving over the speed limit.
I really am Luciferian.
You could also go up north to Santa Barbara. Winchester Canyon Gun Club is up in the mountains a couple of miles off of Highway 154 on West Camino Cielo. 100 yard rifle and a pistol range, kind of rustic. Used to shoot there when I lived in SB.
Also, you could try the BLM shooting area on East Camino Cielo known as the Glass Factory. Informal shooting area, tends to get a bit wild and wooly sometimes, depending on if there's a bunch of meatheads shooting that day.
If this were the food thread, I would tell you to make homemade stock and keep it in the freezer. Amazing how a bit of that will turn ramen or canned soup into something that is a pleasure to eat.
Get some cheap ice trays. Freeze the stock in cubes and store them in a freezer bag. Pull out a few cubes at a time.
Yeah, me too. I was thinking about going to midnight Mass this year. My brother informs me that taking the Sacrament without going to confession is a mortal sin. I did not know this - or if I did, forgot. You know, when you're a kid, they throw so many rules at you.
So, he offered to help by printing out a guide to making a thorough examination of conscience and a good confession. I was astounded by what I found there. For example, under #5 "Thou shalt not kill" there is everything from not speaking out against abortion to driving over the speed limit.
I really am Luciferian.
I really really encourage anyone who is on the fence to go to mass.
If you don't feel comfortable going to communion for whatever reason, you don't have to go. I go to a smaller Catholic parish, and not everyone goes to communion. That is not a huge problem, at least in my mind. People don't necessarily pay attention to that.
In my world, God still loves you even if your relationship is difficult. Please remember that. ((hugs))
/and no, sorry, you're not a Luciferian Miley.
479 I predict with the Trump presidency, the made up problems with pipelines will evaporate because of lack of funding. The benefactors of the chaos will see that they need to back another horse. Once Warren Buffet sees that his railroads won't have exclusive routing for crude oil, he will miraculously discover the new clean coal technology, and become a convert to coal. You can't ship coal in a pipeline. This will greatly dismay China, which has been planning on buying US coal mines and staffing them with contracted Chinese nationals. China signing on to the global warming crowd's mandate to phase coal out in the next so many years is just a ruse to get everyone else to destroy their economies. China always has the long view. Buffet has the current view. Make money for me now. Buy coal.
485 From a NYT story linked at WeaselZip, about NYC govt. trembling over possible federal aid cuts:
"Mr. Trump, a Republican, has threatened to punish cities that defy his efforts to deport undocumented immigrants, and there is also concern that the Republican-controlled Congress may seek to slash longstanding aid programs."
Enforcing existing, un-controversial law and procedures is not "punishment" of anyone.
There is no such thing as "undocumented immigrants," the term is entirely artificial and has no application to deportation procedures, which are based on law and involve serious checks and balances and multiple "defenses to deportation".
Just part of my ongoing series emphasizing how extreme, and pervasive, the distortion of basic information has become in the "news" media. Sometimes almost every sentence in a dispatch can be deconstructed can shown to be inaccurate, and tendentious.
And this idiot marinade must be directly and actively opposed - not "bypassed" - because it is the marinade in which the entire populace, esp. those who wrongly consider themselves educated and informed, soak. It's a big part of how we got to the (still very perilous) position we are in.
Posted by: Insomniac at December 04, 2016 09:00 PM (0mRoj)
So is mine. It will always be strained until I go to be with him.
I struggle with a lot of sins. Everyone does. Mine may be different from yours and they may be pretty boring, but they are sins nevertheless.
Grammie is right: God doesn't mind if you're mad at him. Some of the most important passages in the Bible involve people who are mad at God. Jonah was royally ticked off at God because he didn't destroy Nineveh (today's Mosul) after they repented.
Sit down and talk to God just like you might talk to me. Tell him how you're mad, disappointed, and angry. Don't curse at him, but be honest and pour out your heart. He'll listen.
Telling God that you're angry with him and continuing to talk with him just might be the start of the greatesr relationship of all that leads to other relationships that you're missing in your life.
If you go to a good, Gospel centered church, you'll find lots of people who have spent years being angry at God, plus quite a few who still are. You're not alone in your feelings.
I seem to remember reading recently where some lord was obliged to unroof his manor house because he could not afford the taxes, and British tax law provided that an unroofed house was not taxed, or taxed only at a trivial rate.
And quite possibly some of the old castles were roofed in lead or copper, and lost their roofing material to wartime exigencies.
I always have to battle my desire to do things my way. If God would just listen to me, the world would be a much better place.
We all get our priorities wrong. It's pretty much the story of my life. I jess up, God intervenes and straightens me out for a while, then I go back to doing things my way and insisting that God bless my plans. James had a few things to say about how we should order our plans.
Penrith Castle I just stumbled upon. I was hiking around the Lake District (also highly recommended) and moving around with a bus pass, and made a connection in Penrith. Seriously, I think there was just a small sign next to the castle and that was it --no fences, no maps, you could just walk in among the ruins.
620 Waaaaaaaahhhh!!!
The butthurt is strong among a very distraught Bills fan...
"Oakland Raiders Fans are mocking us on their forum!"
Fellow Bills fan responded:
"So then dont go to fans boards after losing to said fans team?"
Another Bills fan:
"Who ****ing cares?
How old are you, 10?"
Too funny.
Well, that's good to hear. I'm willful and sometimes arrogant and not inclined to submit to earthly creatures (like priests and pastors or bosses or husbands). Mr. Deplorable was the exception. And while I'm not outright mad at God anymore, I don't talk to Him enough.
Ah, it appears that we are very much alike Miley. However, I have not been lucky enough to find a Mr. Shibumi, so maybe you are not quite as ungovernable as you think.
However, I did have 10 years of Catholic school and no inclination to find another religion, so maybe that is my advantage.
637 I'm reminded of the old play, I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change.
Before I was married, my wife said she wasn't going to change me. She was going to raise my standards.
And she did. I'm a more grounded, mature person now. But the good news is: I've lowered her standards.
I really do take solace in knowing I'm not alone in this. I have moments, though, when I truly feel as though I'm throwing myself on His mercy. At those times I weep and simultaneously feel comforted.
647 Who give a warm moist sh*t what S. King thinks? He's a Libtard pop-fiction hack who doesn't even know how a revolver works, or why writing "...then 2000 volts of amps coursed thru her body" is infantile gibberish. He has the technical science knowledge of my long-gone childhood foreskin.
He's a putz.
