Gotta go check my clock radio and see if any of these are on. The only games I care about are the big Spartan football games, but I keep the AM radio on quiet so I have some background noise to sleep to. Talk shows are fine, but whenever there's a game it's "flurble.. flurble... FLURBLEBLAWRL! FLURBLEBLAWRL!!!!!" a few times an hour. Tigers coverage can particularly climb a wall of dicks in hell for this.

That is depressing. And I'm older than you. Posted by: Infidel at December 03, 2016 08:57 PM (a62hT) It is depressing but also kind of, I dunno hopeful. I have always had a very rosy view of the 50's. Cheerful, optimistic. I am sure it was not quite as nice for people who lived then, but to me it is kind of the last decade when sanity reigned. Given the track record for the past few decades, seeing the 80's that way is not a bad choice. President Reagan, commies, hope. It kind of gives you a sense about the circularity of history and about how every now and then, people get it generally right. Posted by: Aetius451AD at December 03, 2016 09:00 PM (92kX2) 124

Alabama has the #1 Run Defense in the country. That's about all I can say.
Our secondary is pretty average. The O-line is not dominating. In the backfield, we don't have a Derrick Henry, but we do have 5 guys who would be the #1 back on most Div 1 teams. Oh, and we have a freshman QB. Alabama could win out, but I think they should be underdogs among the top 4. Posted by: Grump928(C) at December 03, 2016 09:06 PM (0F67M) 143

No, and here's why: Austria might have but they are basically controlled by Germany who runs the EU, them and France. Italy is one of the net drains on the EU, they survive by sapping off of France and Germany. They don't have a powerful economy and workforce like England does, they can't make it alone any more. The stereotype was true. I still remember, we had gone to visit my great aunt in NYC and we were sitting in her kitchen and she referred to her husband as Italian (he had gotten heated over discussing something) and he yelled out "I'm Sicilian!!!!" -with the hand gestures. Posted by: Sebastian Melmoth at December 03, 2016 09:37 PM (A3edJ) ---------------------------------- Heh. This reminds me of two things. One is the Christmas sermonette ---(unreported by the MSM, of course) ---by Rev. Jeremiah Wright on how the Palestinian baby Jesus was persecuted by the Jews and "garlic noses." I had heard of "garlic eaters" before but not "garlic noses," which strikes me as an amusing, if weird, variation. The other is that, while "garlic eater" might be considered a slur in the US, in some places it is a label of some vague kind of superiority. Those who live in countries around the Caribbean are divided into "los de ajo" (garlic people) and "los de aji" (hot pepper people.) The hot pepper peeps, mostly Meso-Americans between the US and Costa Rica, are regarded as somehow inferior to the more "Mediterranean" (garlicky!) people of Colombia, Venezuela, Cuba, etc. So, if you want to be snotty, especially toward chicanos, you would call yourself a garlic eater!
