Religons Of The World And What Is Acceptable
In case you don't recall, A&E TV has a program called Duck Dynasty. A family (The Robertson's) of rednecks who struck it big with duck calls. Silly show. Sometimes funny, sometimes entertaining.
The Robertson's show doesn't discuss politics or culture. The ending of the show concludes with dinner and a dinner prayer. The patriarch of the Family, Phil Robertson spoke out about his beliefs off camera in a 2014 magazine interview. Of course his conservative Christian views about homosexuality were not accepted by the MSM. After a brief suspension because of Phil's off-screen comments, Duck Dynasty returned to A&E's lineup. Fast forward to 2016. HGTV has a remodeling show "Fixer Upper" featuring Chip & Joanna Gaines. I've seen it a few times. They appear to be nice couple and seem to do a good job. No religious overtones that I've seen. One problem, the Gaines belong to a church where SSM is not accepted. The Gaines' have kept their mouth shouts but are under pressure to state their beliefs. So Christians who stay true to their beliefs are fair game? Right? Well, if Christians are to be held accountable for their beliefs. What about Muslims? So if the Gaines' church and pastor can lead to their suspension and/or termination. (Stay tuned) What about a Muslim congressman? Congressman Keith Ellison (D-MN) hasn't come out publicly for the exclusion of SSM. But it appears that his Imam has.“It’s not within our paradigm, really, to change the word of God,” said Imam Makram El-Amin, leader of Masjid Al-Nur in Minneapolis. “Our religion is clear about this matter. It’s not a lifestyle that we accept as being part of the natural way of things for human beings. When it comes to that, that’s my position, and that’s Islam’s position. And this incident as tragic and terrible as it is that does not change that,” he said.Until Congressman Ellison comes forth and denounces his Imam, his mosque and anti-homosexuality Keith Ellison is not in a position to run the DNC. Hell, he shouldn't even be a congressman. We won't even get into his Anti-Semitism and his ties to the Nation of Islam. Back from days of travel across the South/mid south, so getting the chance to catch up with folks 'round here (N of Houston), and one thing jumps out - there is a perception that the number of illegal immigrants is/has dropped. By a lot.
Had a few chats with some construction (single family/light construction) folks who, to a man, agree that the unskilled (as opposed to professional subs - electric, HVAC, etc) labor pool has suddenly shrunk big time, impacting promised project delivery times.
Big professional projects are cruising along nicely, but the smaller jobs are definitely slowing...
Oddly enough, the legal local small contractors (even 1st gen) suddenly have more work. Funny, that, huh?

One tactic to stop the left, might be the Alinsky tactic of making them live up to their own standards. Calling them out on the SSM or LGTB stance of Ellison is one way to do that. Another would be to demand they accept Muslims as fully equal, as Obama always scolds us to not lash out at Muslims after each jihadist attack. Call them bigots if they don't accept Ellison, just because he has met with terror groups.

I saw an article this morning -- THIS MORNING -- blaming the fact that a mandatory training session, where there were Christmas decorations present, is what caused Syed Farouk to go on his rampage, and concludes that it was the insensitivity of the people who made his attendance mandatory, and the fact that he was visually assaulted by the proximity of Christmas decor, that was to blame for all these deaths.
As far as I'm concerned, that's not just a stupid article; it also dishonors the victims and politicizes their deaths. Running a heinous article like that on the first anniversary of the event should be considered fighting words.

The language is a bit more modern but I was surprised to read that in 1620 in England 'religious' was a pejorative in the same way that 'Christian' is today. It also details the 'established' churches of that time were obstacles and attempted to impede the Puritans in much the same way that modern leftists are doing. Back then you could be imprisoned for your religious belief. Today, you get hauled into court and fined.
The Puritans were cheated out of their money, and promised provisions and re-supply that never arrived.
I'm only about half way through the account, but I'm in awe to think these are the (modern) words of William Bradford from 500 years ago.

Liberals will explain that you certainly have the right to refuse service to anyone as long as the reason doesn't have anything to do with a protected class, meaning that their sub-group is listed in the state or federal anti-discrimination code.
So "she's the wife of the new President I hate" doesn't violate anti-discrimination laws, therefore it's fine to refuse service.

I took my wife out to dinner and mentioned that I was thrilled about Trump's pick of Jim Mattis for SecDef. I know that I probably irritated people, because at least a dozen people stopped eating, and some of them stared. Not one of them had the balls to argue with me, but I hit a nerve.
That fulfilled my job description yesterday. Today, I'll probably speak a little too loudly about how glad I'll be when Obamacare is done away with (I would for a hospital corporation in Southern California). And I'll smile when I say it.
Winning feels good for a change.

First I think there is a committee hearing from the responsible committee, so for SecDef that is Armed Services. I don't know how membership on that committee may change for the next session of Congress but as of right now there are 2 more Republican members than Democrats. McCain is the chairman.
However, I guess the question is on the waiver thing - that does require both Houses.
Where Republicans hold the majority in both. Question is whether they pass it now and have Obama sign it? I don't think he would veto.

But I would count on a filibuster for judicial nominations including the Supreme Court and even pretty routine Cabinet appointments.

Yea, they were the first big brand to ever specifically market them to homosexuals, which seems pretty stupid to me as they make up about 2% of the population.
It seems especially risky to me considering years ago it was still pretty taboo and could alienate a much larger swath of the population.

(2) It let's other nations know that the Trump Administration is going to take American interests into account first, and probably second or third.
(3) Regarding capital, it is letting Wall Street and all of the funds traders know that squeezing the last penny of dividend out of a company is not a priority of the Trump Administration. Their interest is but one interest to be taken into account and get in line.
(4) It gives Trump's supporters a sign that he heard them and means to do what he said. Whether he accomplishes all is irrelevant, he is signaling that his intentions and his statements are the same.

Yes, the ownership is skewed. The meme does not exist for no reason. As one can make valid generalized observations about a significant number of Prius owners, so can one about Subaru owners.
But, here's the thing, like all fashion statements, it is fairly narrow. For instance, it isn't ownership of a Toyota that makes a statement, it is ownership of a Prius.
It's the same with Subaru's within that social set. A Legacy? Well, that says nothing at all, really, nothing. Pretty much the same with Impreza sedans, or Crosstreks, thought the latter may emerge as a favorite.
You see, what is important is that you be seen (or casually mention) that you drive a Forester or an Outback. Both quite recognizable among the cognoscenti. The COEXIST sticker, or HRC (human rights campaign) sticker are just confirmation stamps.

Active in outdoor/adventure sports in states where AWD (and decent snows) is useful.
Not in the market for a true SUV (Truck based, body on frame)
So it was a pretty good market to target, same as Ford did with Jaguar and Landrover during that time frame.

Well they're supposed to have more disposable income you know. But really its not that odd. As someone mentioned, if they are basically 2% of the market, and you can get that 2%, with the car market that's not a bad thing to have. And that was just one ad campaign to target them. They also had other ad campaigns to target the general public as well. They're not just going "We want lesbians and lesbians only and that will be bring us success!" They're a car company, not a porn production.

It's like the Amy Schumer bullshit with Budweiser beer. It was an awful campaign, but some San Francisco Milenial just wanted to rub something in the faces of flyover country and get high fives from his peers.
Marketing something like an automobile to gays is of course incredibly stupid and risky, but the ad companies peers probably thought it was like marching from Selma.
