The Western Brothers
John Singleton Copley

I haven't plagued you with my favorite portraitist in quite some time, and this is a fine example of his work. Superb technique, a grand eye for detail, and my favorite....slightly odd subjects. Or maybe he is just sending a message to his clients that while they may ask to be painted as magnificent examples of the human form, they'll take what they are given and they will like it!

I noticed an amusing passage (in wikipedia, so it may be FakeNewsTM) that suggests a caustic wit....

Copley's personal appearance was thus described by his uncharitable comrade: "Very thin, a little pock-marked [presumably a souvenir of the Boston smallpox epidemic described by Copley in a letter of January 24, 1764], prominent eyebrows, small eyes, which after fatigue seemed a day's march in his head." Copley afterward wrote of Carter: "He was a sort of snail which crawled over a man in his sleep and left its slime, and no more."

Ouch!

40 Unemployment rate tumbles to 4.6%, lowest since August 2007

Gee what great news comrades!!

Some of this decline was due to the 446,000 Americans that dropped out of the labor force, which brought the labor force participation rate down to 62.7% during the month from 62.8% a month ago.

Some is an odd way to spell all. The MFM has really been pimping how great the economy is since the election. My guess is they want the narrative that the economy has never been better as Barry leaves office and if there is one slip in any number it will be all Trump's fault.

Gotta remember that up until the late 19th century, ruffles, puffy shirts, silk stocking, velvet, bright colors and so one were not considered effeminate.

Those brothers grew up knowing how to shoot and hunt and ride horses and fence. They'd make pretty quick work of a modern day pajama boy.

93 The wife watched some YouTube videos on Nibiru, Planet X, the 9th planet, yada yada yada .... Coming Soon!

HEY .... This could be the SMOD that we have been waiting for.

This
has been out there for since the 80's. However they are saying that it
will become visible by 2020. The elites will no longer be able to deny
it. They have known about it and have been preparing sites for
themselves. Denver airport's underground complex, China's ghost cities,
Russian's Large civil defense drills. It could turn out that DOOM is
right around the corner! I imagine civil unrest will be epic. We could
very well have people with Australian accents and Mohawks riding around
on motorcycles trying to steal everybody's gas.

It would be a
hoot, if something becomes visible. All hell breaks loose. The elites
bunker in. Then it passes by with no extinction level event, and
everyone is left waiting out side the elite bunkers waiting for them to
come out with a lot of rope ... some assembly required.

Tons of pickup trucks, vans, bucket trucks, trenchers, backhoes, welders, compressors, etc.

A friend just bought 80 acres down the street from me, so we've got a place to play.

This is going to be fun.

Dear MSM:

In your quest to 'understand' the unimaginable - "What would make someone mass murder?" - you are legitimizing the jihadis' complains that everyday things are unacceptable.

Mass murder is not a rational or reasonable response to an office party. Mass murder is not a reasonable or rational response to possible homosexual attraction and the temptation of available partners at a gay nightclub. Mass murder is not a reasonable or rational response to not getting along with your class study group. Mass murder is not a reasonable or rational response to feeling lost on campus.

Just stop promoting their goal of an America that bends in submission to their demands of promoting their comfort over ours, their culture over ours.

67 I actually own a pastel-enhanced portrait of my grandfather and his brother circa 1890s. Both are wearing dresses and the elder (great-uncle) has elaborate shoulder-length curls.

Posted by: mustbequantum at December 02, 2016 10:00 AM (MIKMs

I read a bio of Oscar Wilde years ago and the author said a photo of a 4 or 5 year old Wilde wearing a dress and long curls led some 20th century biographers to say "Ah hah, his mother made him 'that way.'"

Nonsense, the author said, since it was a common custom for Victorians to dress their little boys in dresses. I would imagine it was easier, back in the day when it was much harder to do wash, to have the boys wear a dress until they had full control over their bowels and bladder, rather than making messes in their pants all of the time.

Now why they wanted boys to have long curls is another matter. Can't think of a reason for that.

126 Good news has rocked the financial sector today as the BLS has reported that 176 THOUSAND jobs were added to the US economy last month. This number far exceeds what some analysts predicted and is a feather in the cap of what has been an amazing economic turnaround for president Obama, who arrived in office with the worst economy since the Great Depression.

Alternate news: The jobs market has offered a stunning rebuke to the upcoming Trump presidency, adding a paltry 176 thousand jobs in November, far short of what some analysts predicted would be a record breaking month. Experts say this likely heralds a dismal Christmas shopping season and the beginning of not just a recession, but the Bush era depression, and we can expect many months of significant job losses and layoffs in the coming months.

173 Anyone from MI know the path that a lawsuit against the Board of Canvassers would take, if they deny Trump's request to deny Stein her recount? If it goes to the MI Supreme Court would they be favorable to stop it? After reading Trump's petition, it sounded as if the necessity to be an "aggrieved" candidate (which Stein could not be, bc the recount would not correct her loss) has been used before to deny recounts.

This slow-walking the recounts (as Sean Duffy said was happening in Dane County, WI) would probably replay itself in MI, too, sad to say, so hope Trump can stop before it starts. Plus, with Allegheny County, PA refusing to certify until 12/12, that seems suspicious, too. Especially after Phildelphia's count of another 25k of provisional/absentee ballots yesterday with 22K for HRC. (Saw on DDHQ yesterday;Trump's PA lead down to 46K.) Sounds like lots of concerted effort to create an appearance of Trump's illegitimacy.

I got into an argument with someone about it a couple weeks ago. She tried to tell me that it doesn't matter because that's counting people who are old and wouldn't be working anyway, teenagers who wouldn't necessarily be working, etc. The point was completely lost on her.

It will tank because Trump's numbers won't be cooked. That is the set-up from Obama.

Same goes for terror attacks, they will go up because Trump will correctly label them as terrorism instead of mentally ill dudes whose motives remain unknown.

This is where having Preibus as CoS is going to pay dividends. His relationship with Ryan as well as Trump coopting McConnell is going to allow for a lot of coordination with Congress.

That's my interpretation as well. I am in full agreement with you, that it is not Constitutional. House can have no say over confirmation process, and previous Congress and President cannot infringe on current President and Senate's power to appoint and confirm.

During a $15 minimum wage raise protest at the Massachusetts State House, protest organizer Carlha Toussaint of the Coalition of Social Justice was asked by American Rising Squared if any jobs would be lost as a result of the minimum businesses must pay their employees being raised so high.

Her response was nothing short of breathtaking.

"No, because jobs are currently lost to low wages either way, so raising the minimum wage, you can't export retail, you can't export fast food, you can't export jobs that have to do with, you know, personal customer-based skills, so therefore I don't believe those type of jobs will be shipped overseas," responded Toussaint.

And just because jobs have been lost every time the minimum wage has been raised doesn't mean a thing.

Now putting aside the fact that many Latinos are white anyway, the white population will only decline if the offspring of these white--Latino couples ALL self-identify as Latino.

364 Regarding what the constitution says about the power to appoint.

"He shall have Power, by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, to make Treaties, provided two thirds of the Senators present concur; and he shall nominate, and by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, shall appoint Ambassadors, other public Ministers and Consuls, Judges of the supreme Court, and all other Officers of the United States, whose Appointments are not herein otherwise provided for, and which shall be established by Law: but the Congress may by Law vest the Appointment of such inferior Officers, as they think proper, in the President alone, in the Courts of Law, or in the Heads of Departments"

The words "advice and consent" of the Senate gives the Senate and in this case because it is a written law, the House, the ability to make laws regarding how that advice and consent is given.

I'm not sure why people are demanding that a duly written law be determined by the Republican Party to be unconstitutional and simply ignored. When all it needs is a waiver passed by both houses.

Remember the idea of the law was to enforce the founders ideas that citizens should be in charge, not the military or a quasi king posing as a president.

395 Further regarding Ener1 in Indiana and what it cost that state in order to produce/save 0.00 jobs:

"The state gave the company $21.1 million in performance-based credits and $200,000 in grants. The state gave another $7.6 million in performance-based credits to subsidiaries of Ener1, Think Holdings and Electric Motors Corp. Hancock County gave Ener1 $30 million in tax abatements and other incentives, and Indianapolis, Elkhart and Noblesville kicked in tax abatements to sweeten the incentives."

(from Advance Indiana blogspot dot com)

So, the state of Indiana kicked in over 58 millyun dollahs in credits, abatements, and incentives during the Ener1 debacle. For a company that again, produced roughly 0.00 jobs.

Again, versus 7 million for the Carrier deal.

Yeah, nice balanced reporting by the MFM.

Should I or should I not turn them in to the Secret Service and if not, why not? Oh, and defend it without using the words "freedom of the press."

Or, perhaps, "Great question, Andrea." (pulls index card out of pocket). "Hey, NSA tells me you've been cruising those kid porn websites again, with a special emphasis on eight year-old boys. How about we talk about that, first, before I get on to dealing with the planted and paid for propaganda question you just asked?"

BoC hold closed door meeting to "discuss" the AG's lawsuit and then reconvene to hear arguments from Trump and Stein attorneys (Stein's is Brewer, former D party state chairman) on granting the recount (sounded as if they were going to ignore the AG's suit until forced to do otherwise.) Posted by: SH at December 02, 2016 11:22 AM (qQvSj

The Congress decided to make a law regarding who can serve in the Sec. of Def position as to their distance from military service. I don't know exactly when this law was passed, but the Senate cannot make laws without the House. It has to be passed by both houses and signed into law by the President. Meaning it must be waived or repealed in the same manner.

------------

But a law cannot override the Consitition which gives the President and Senate sole power to appoint and confirm. A law that restricts this is an impermissible infringment on their appointment and confirmation power.

When the price of oil dropped a couple of years ago... hundreds of companies in the oil industry went out of business.... ie... all the small companies...

Yep....although you have to remember that you can self-identify as BOTH "Latino" and "white."

I am a Latina because I was born and raised in a Latin American country, my parents were Latinos, my first language was Spanish, etc., etc.
Racially, however, I am white, at least 31/32 European. (We THINK my father had an Indian ancestor back there.)

My kids do not really identify as Latinos, at least no more than someone with a mother born in Poland would identify as "Polish." But they could (and might) check the "Hispanic" box if they think it will give them an advantage.

My brother has a Taiwanese wife and his kids are racially Eurasian. To the extent that they think of themselves as part of an ethnic group at all, it would be Asian-American. They all speak at least a little Mandarin and no Spanish----but they will check the "Hispanic" box because of AA bennies! So what are they?!?

Seems to be the magic price point here in the US... where Fracking becomes a little profitable...

Thus, domestic production increases... thus all the smaller companies who support oil drillers prosper...

Its the old question... would I rather pay a few cents more per gallon of gas and keep the production HERE... or pay a few cents less and my money goes to another countries economy.

I understand you. We have thousands of laws that if taken up by a constitutionally leaning SC, would be declared unconstitutional. No one has had a problem with the "infringement " and so it has never been challenged, apparently.

And I do not want congress, the senate, Donald Trump or regulatory agencies deciding they can simply ignore laws they don't like or think are unconstitutional a la Eric Holder anymore.

If this law is a problem then challenge it. Ask Congress to repeal it. Meanwhile, work within the law as it is written and get a waiver done for Mattis in a week as opposed to fighting this law for months to get it repealed, or waiting two years for the SC to take it up.

Related to yesterday's boycott threads. I suggest we substitute buycott for boycott. Most of companies we're asked to boycott I either never heard of or don't buy from anyway. If we substitute intentional buying from companies that aren't moonbitch companies, we accomplish the same end easier. For example, I need some new kicks (that's street for shoes). The left was upset with New Balance shoes for not sufficiently hating Trump. For the first time in my life, I ordered a New Balance product yesterday.

Heck... they can't even be FORCED to answer a Question... they only hear the cases they wish to.

The Court has become the Supreme Law of the Land...

They have changed... abortion, citizenship (making dual citizenship legal), immigration (States HAVE to give illegals schooling and such), Gay Marriage, Obamacare a tax, Political Speech...

Hell... they even said a guy growing Chicken feed for his own chickens is somehow involved in Interstate Commerce...

Time and again they have created Law... even when common sense and the exact text of said law was something different.

Yes.
This is exactly what Eric Holder was advocating to state AG's and how he conducted his DoJ. You cannot have a nation of laws that are then ignored by individuals based on their own interpretations.

Courts have a system of checks and balances. The Supreme Court is not one individual making a fatwa , rather it is a group of supposedly constitutionally educated legal scholars (yes , I know having a law degree is not a requirement) who have been confirmed by 100 Senators who represent their states(now screwed up by being elected instead of appt. per original constitution) who are to interpret and check and balance the Congress regarding laws.

Even our founding father's understood that humans are fallible and gave us Art. V to help correct seemingly uncorrectable problems with the Congress and with lawmaking and laws.

But regardless,if the population never knows what law is to be followed and what law isn't , nothing but anarchy, chaos, and bribery will take place and the country will descend into a hellhole.

I understand the argument that the Senate may choose to implement it's advisory role however it chooses. I just generally hate the idea of abrogating/delegating any decision-making power from the elected officials the Constitution says are in charge of it.

I hate how, for example, the IRS is actually the one that makes a lot of rules because Congress has said, "we deputize you to make these rules." That constant abrogation of responsibility is much of how we ended up with this insane regulatory bureaucracy.

On this PARTICULAR point, I wouldn't object to that argument too stridently as it is left entirely in the hands of Congress and everyone that has a say is duly elected.

-------------

To the extent that Holder was not prosecuting based on an interpretation by President Obama - I am fine with that. I don't have to agree with it, but the President takes an oath of office. If he truly believes something is unconstitional, I believe it is his duty to not prosecute (or enact into law).

The people can have a say too ... by finding the President wrong and taking it out on him in the voting booth (or his party).

Its one thing to ignore laws that are politically inconvenient, but another thing to ignore laws that you believe are blatantly unconstitutional. I have no problem with the latter even though I may disagree on their interpretation.
