Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Boycott Part 1: Boycott All of Buzzfeed's Advertisers. Note Them, List Them, Write to Them Telling Them You'll Never buy Their Products Again Until They Cut all Ties With Buzzfeed.Gabriel Malor, in his first (I think) column at his new home at Ricochet, wrote about Buzzfeed's unhinged attack -- and subsequent disingenuousness -- on a popular home fix-up show for merely belonging to a church that considers, like most churches do, homosexuality to be a sin. So Buzzfeed reporter Kate Aurthur wrote a post about popular HGTV hosts Chip and Joanne Gaines which informed the world that the Gaineses' have a pastor who is opposed to same-sex marriage. This post had one purpose and one purpose alone: to harm the couple. The post served no news purpose—even Aurthur concedes she never learned the Gaines’ view of same-sex marriage. The post cannot be termed "activism" since it fails at every level to persuade readers of the rightness of the same-sex marriage cause. Even the most generous alternate topic of Aurthur's post, "Texas pastor opposes same-sex marriage," is as dog-bites-chew-toy as a news item can be. The only conceivable purpose of targeting the popular television couple in this manner was to cost them viewers and, perhaps, their jobs. To forestall the protestations, there can be no serious doubt that Aurthur specifically targeted the Gaineses as the object of her post. The headline, subhead, and first, second, third, and fourth paragraphs were solely about the Gaineses, their popular HGTV show "Fixer Upper," and the fact that they are (gasp!) openly Christian. Only in the fifth paragraph does Aurthur wander into the question of whether gay people will appear on their television show (like with other HGTV programming), and the rest of the piece is about the Gainses' pastor’s views. The word for Buzzfeed publishing this garbage is "harassment." Even as Aurthur (and her boss) hide behind a pretense of journalistic standards, there is no journalistic content in the piece. The Gainses cannot be blamed for declining to volunteer themselves as victims for Aurthur’s bullying. After years of contemptuous boycotts and Twitter outrage storms directed at individuals and companies over their views on same-sex marriage, harassers like Aurthur have taught many of their victims -- reasonably! -- to hunker down and say nothing.RightScoop also wrote about the "Party of Tolerance's" latest venture in scalp-hunting and Social Justice Firing. The interesting thing this time is that the Social Justice Punishers are getting some well-earned Social Justice Punishment themselves. He then goes on to note Ben Smith's laughably disingenuous defenses of the piece. ExJon is remixing Buzzfeed's story:
If this social-media-mob-stirring, guilt-by-association, drive-out-the-heretics philosophy is how the game is going to be played now… I'd like the folks at BuzzFeed to turn their attention to Imam Makram El-Amin, leader of Masjid Al-Nur mosque in Minneapolis.I asked Ben Smith if he was going to inquire into this relationship, given that Keith Ellison seeks a post which has far more influence than the Gaines' have -- they only have power over a random couple's backsplash and Open Concept remodeling. As Buzzfeed would say: Until this point, BuzzfeedBen has refused to answer very simple questions. Take that as you will. Find their advertisers and boycott them. Hurt them. It is folly to treat kindly those who seek to hurt you. If it's #War, then let it be #War for all sides; this stupid game of restraint by conservatives where we try to convince people to follow our example by acting "better" than they do is pure foolishness, for a simple reason: They are arrogant and think they need to learn nothing more than they knew in kindergarten, and furthermore, they literally believe you to be subhuman. In what world does someone who thinks you're literally subhuman learn "lessons" from you by observing your behavior and then imitating it? Most of us want the Peace State. I know I do. But it is foolish in the extreme -- foolish to the point of delusion -- to continue insisting that a tactic that has a long, long track record of simply not working at all -- acting as if one is in the Peace State when one's enemies have decided to attack you -- will lead to the Peace State. No. Continuing to unilaterally disarm ourselves will lead to further attacks. If you want to be in the social-war Peace State -- as most do -- then one must, as one must do in real life, temporarily go into the War State to punish one's enemies until they are willing to discuss terms and themselves move to the Peace State. Weakness in the face of aggression is provocative. Weakness in the face of unceasing harassment is volunteering for this treatment. To treat kindly those who treat you cruelly is to make oneself an accomplice in one's own debasement, denigration, and subjugation. Si vis pacem, para bellum -- if you wish peace, prepare for #War. As Andrew Breitbart said: "Fuck you. #War." Let it be so.... Lest you think that was an off-the-cuff, one-time comment from the imam… Comments(Jump to bottom of comments)1

This is just the latest episode of the Gaystapo targeting someone who they don't like. This time they do not have some really stupid and unconsittuional law that forces a person or store to bow to their rare form of disorder.
We will have to wait and see if the producers of the "fix it" show bow down to Gaystapo pressure and end the show just because the star attend a church that thinks gaydom is a sin. My main problem with boycotts is it's basically impossible to keep a running list of all the companies I'm supposed to be boycotting. I'm already boycotting Target and the NFL. Don't really have the mental bandwidth to boycott everyone who advertises with Buzzfeed, though I already do make a point not to ever click on any of their stupid clickbait "articles." this stupid game of restraint by conservatives where we try to convince people to follow our example by acting "better" than they do is pure foolishness,
------------- Ace you make a compelling argument, but I don't think it is simply that conservatives are trying to convince people to follow our better example - its just that in general conservatives view this differently than the left who are fighting on a daily basis because this is their life. This isn't most conservatives lives - we have other lives. Now that being said, I do think conservatives ultimately reach a breaking point where they will look away no more. Arguably they did in 1968 and perhaps they are doing it again now. Where the left has gotten so aggressive that we now understand we must fight. Perhaps you are seeing that with the pushback on Target, the NFL, ESPN and the support of Chick Fil A, etc. War is always sort of last resort - we may have reached that point finally. "a church that considers, like most churches do, homosexuality to be a sin"
Where strongly represented in the ranks of "most churches" are the black churches. Except we're not supposed to notice or talk about that inconvenient truth. I was being pointedly lectured by a local yuppie liberal female about Proposition 8, the ballot initiative in CA which banned gay marriage, and actually passed, before being later struck down by a federal black-robed radical (who was himself a gay man intending to get married). My pinch-faced interlocutor was incandescently and vocally angry with... the Mormons, for their having organized in support of Prop 8. Okay, I said, let's admit for purposes of argument that the LDS should be hounded and ostracized over this. Shouldn't we also hound and ostracize the black churches on the same grounds? As they were equally galvanized by the issue and voted in support of "Prop Hate" by similar percentages. This is *not* a question which a Bay Area bien-pensant is ever going to be comfortable answering either affirmatively or negatively. Instead I got a hand-waving dismissal. "Oh, that never happened." Thanks to everyone wading in the cesspools to get an advertiser list.
I'd like to add that just a boycott is not good enough anymore. We need to call and email these advertisers and inform them of our decision and the reasoning for it. Probably a good idea to be a bit hysterical about it too, usually works for the left. Then get others to call and email them as well. My comment is, admittedly, old and worn. But. Promoting the morality and lifestyle of a minute group, or any group, by waging scorched earth tactics, will absolutely produce great resentment, and increasing resistance on the part of the dominant culture.
I know that is wordy. People are sick of bullying tactics by an obnoxious minority, whatever that minority may be. Trump may be emblamatic of resistance and pushback, and that alone may be why he is a GOOD thing. Thanks for putting up with my rant. Posted by: tubal at December 01, 2016 03:27 PM (d6TTt) 79

There is nothing homophobic about believing that homosexuality is a sin. There is nothing homophobic about opposing gay marriage. It IS religious bigotry and that position is vile. There's nothing bordering about it. It is open and complete bigotry of the most simple minded and pathetic sort. Fun fact about the area I grew up in: Not only will the pastors not marry homosexual couples, but all the churches in the area signed onto "Covenant Marriages," which means that for a heterosexual couple to get married
by the church, they must go through premarital counseling *and* not be living together when they get married. My husband's cousin ran into that rule, so she moved out of her then-boyfriend's house, went to counseling with him, professed her faith and they got married in that church. People might grumble about the rules, but if you don't want to abide by them, go to the courthouse and get married. Posted by: pookysgirl at December 01, 2016 03:39 PM (ar2KI) 149

Say, remember back when Sarah Palin in 2008 put an evangelical guest speaker on stage at a campaign rally who believed that homosexuality is a "disease" that can be "cured" by "reparative therapy"? Oh! Wait. That isn't quite right. Palin never did any such thing. It was BARACK OBAMA who did that, trying to lock down the black church vote in the Democratic primary in South Carolina that year. I'm also fond of pointing out that those nice, young men we sent off to WWI were found filing saw teeth into their bayonets for the sole purpose of causing as much pain to the German as they could. Then, they came home, married, raised families and built a nation. There's no such thing as "sinking to their level" in the context of war. There's moral, just men doing what needs to be done--it doesn't taint you and ruin you for life. You don't become "just like them." I don't much care for Buzzfeed's form of "journalism". Therefore, I rarely go there. If I do end up there, it's because I followed a link without checking where it was going. But, just because some company spends some of it's ad dollars at Buzzfeed, usually does not bother me enough to get mad at that company and boycott their products as well. I see Scotch tape is on the list of Buzzfeed's advertisers. I am not going to boycott Scotch brand tape. The punishment just doesn't fit the crime. You don't become "just like them." Posted by: RoyalOil at December 01, 2016 03:38 PM (e2Rx3) You can say that, but the question remains; is it acceptable before God to do such a thing. That's the question that cannot be evaded. Maximizing the suffering of another draftee, saying that isn't wrong or anything, sure, that sounds rough-and-tumble, real hoo-rah kinda stuff; but then you remember the Christmas Day truce and realize that a lot of those young men also didn't want to be there, they were also human beings with hopes, dreams, and fears, and that war is a tragedy and not something to be glorified, idolized, or masturbated to. You can say what you feel is badass, or right and proper by human standards... but internally, you'll know it is a lie. Whether the men in question came home, built a nation, raised families, whatever, is immaterial to the question of was x action undertaken moral or immoral before God. Goebbels had a family, too. Does the fact that he was a family man (up until the point he murdered them) whitewash any deeds he did? You'll never find any Scripture endorsing bloodlust. You won't. o_0 And if you're not a Christian, well I don't have any argument to hand you, so we'll have to leave it at that. 142 I want to make sure my position on all of this is absolutely clear.
There is nothing homophobic about believing that homosexuality is a sin. There is nothing homophobic about opposing gay marriage. It does not border on religious bigotry to act as if those who believe homosexuality is a sin and/or who oppose gay marriage may not be allowed to own or operate a business, or, for that matter, have any other kind of employment. It IS religious bigotry and that position is vile. There's nothing bordering about it. It is open and complete bigotry of the most simple minded and pathetic sort. I should note that it is also vile bigotry to believe and act as if those who do not approve of homosexuality or gay marriage without any religious basis may not be allowed to own or operate a business, or, for that matter, have any other kind of employment. I believe that in this case, it would be far more effective if a group of semi-prominent bloggers were to start a campaign of defaming Ben Smith as a puppy torturer or someone who continually uses the restroom and doesn't wash his hands before returning to the buffet line. Targeted, negative, guilt by association things that everyone but Ben Smith can have fun with. We've got a SC-built BMW, and in terms of material and assembly quality it's every bit as good as and in some ways better than our German-built BMWs. Posted by: JEM at December 01, 2016 03:24 PM (TppKb) Your SC BMW is likely to be superior to the German one in many respects, but none so much as this. In Germany, the BMWs are built mostly by Turks on the assembly line. In South Carolina, they're built by Southern Redneck Americans, be they black, white, yella, beige or polka-dot. American Quality still means something. As you're noticing with your BMW. Plus, the Turks aren't quite as good in the "New Car Smell" department, either. And yes, I'm still pissed that Honda sent the Gold Wing line back to Japan, to open up more space for Accords. It is doubtful that all those TARP funds were acxtually repaid. Recall that GM was said to have repaid their TARP loans but later it was found out that they repaid it by paying from another government loan account, so the repayment was a sham.
And I say that is most likely what the government's so-called profit was. I don't believe a single thing that comes out of the Obama lying shitweasels. And IF some of it was paid back, did it go back into the treasury to reduce the government debt that it was financed with? Don't make me laugh. The X5 is too short, too wide, and too tall, so it is basically a very fast barstool. One very significant issue in material quality is the European recyclability requirements. The German polymers and elastomers are garbage and deteriorate quickly when exposed to the sun. The materials used in the US vehicle hold up much better. Equilibrium is quite good if you ignore that the plot doesn't hold together in the slightest. But oh the literal gunfu.
Chip and Joanne Gaines and their absolutely adorable children, represent everything the left hates. They're happily married, have worked incredibly hard to earn their success, are Christian, and are teaching their young children the value of hard work. Yes, we're at war. Posted by: Jane D'oh at December 01, 2016 03:59 PM (PY9jH) I love Fixer Upper. One of the things I love about it is that when they do the here we are taking the kids and pizza to Mommy since she will stay up all night fixing up the house it's not just it's important to have dinner as a family. It's showing the kids this is what it takes to be a success. You have to work really hard and really long hours and miss out on stuff sometimes. Also I love that they do different price points. I've seen houses for $100,000 and houses for $500,000 and they dump the same care and love into both. I'll be honest, it literally never once crossed my mind to think hey I haven't seen a gay couple on there. I mean, why would I look for that in the first place? That's stupid. Now. Here. Leone wanted Van Cleef, Wallace, and Eastwood to show up in the beginning of Once Upon the Time in the Old West, so that Harmonica would kill all of them quickly and thus establish he was the baddest ass of the bad asses.
Van Cleef and Wallace agreed, but Eastwood refused. I honestly don't get the left's frenzy over the historic Christian belief that homosexual behavior is sin, in particular their insistence that represents hate.
People can engage in behavior I believe to be sinful but I still work with them, I still respect their humanity. I might like them. I might even regard them as friends. All that seems to fit into what I regard as tolerance--giving people space to do things you don't like provided it doesn't harm you. 280 On a similar parallel, the other day I received from a food bank sponsored by our state's Catholic Charities nonprofit org. These guys do great work, don't get me wrong.
But they sent me a "Happy Holidays" card. WTF? What happened to Merry Christmas? I write to them and ask the WTF question. They don't want to offend some of their supporters, and defended their actions. My viewpoint may be on the extreme side of things, but if a Catholic (Christian) organization is courting supporters who may be offended by Merry Christmas - thoughts of betrayal and 5 pieces of silver come to mind. Posted by: Our Country is Screwed at December 01, 2016 04:01 PM (jxbfJ) Catholic Charities is a tough one. My brother and his wife adopted two boys through Catholic Charities. They were put out of the adoption business in (I think) Mass. because they wouldn't accept gay couples as adoptive parents. They were, along with the Salvation Army, much more effective in helping people after Katrina than the Red Cross and federal government were. So they were one of the charities I championed. However, they are also instrumental in championing amnesty and Muslim "refugees." Mr. Stabby and his family were resettled by Catholic Charities (after the government did it's piss-poor job of vetting him.) So I've written them off. The Catholic Church has been f'ed over so many times by liberals, yet it still joins sides with them when it comes to illegals. And the Christmas Card thing? I can't buy religious Christmas cards in the gift store here. It might "offend" someone. It's a friggin' CATHOLIC HOSPITAL! Posted by: Donna and V. Andrew Breitbart really is the anti-Alinsky.
Alinsky once famously commanded: "Make them (conservatives) live up to their own rules." But Breitbart's primary message was, "You want to make people live up to their own rules? Fine. Now we (conservatives) will make YOU (liberals) live up to YOUR own rules." And this is actually much more devastating then Alinsky's original commandment, because liberalism is at its very core hypocritical trolling and disingenuous neo-puritanism. There's no way that liberals could actually ever live up to their own rules, even in theory. (Whereas at lats conservatives try. Leftists don't try; they just accuse.) But here is what I find fascinating: One of the biggest news sites on the right is called "Breitbart.com." But try as you might, you can't find any leftist news site named after Alinsky. I don't really get into boycotting much. Mainly because I don't buy much that is actually advertised...most of my food purchases are meats and veggies, my clothing purchases are off brand, and any other money is spent on guns, tools, books, and charcoal.
This time of year it gets a little tougher because the little ones want christmas presents. "I want to make sure my position on all of this is absolutely clear.
There is nothing homophobic about believing that homosexuality is a sin. There is nothing homophobic about opposing gay marriage" The real problem is the the word homophobic, which the left started using around 25 years ago with great success. There are many reasons to oppose homosexuality but those that oppose it or gay marriage do not "fear" it as the word implies. Worse, it also implies it is an irrational, paranoid fear that can send a person into panic attack,(like having a spider fall on you unexpectedly) I have never seen this happen to people that oppose gay marriage, and I doubt anybody else has either. . People that oppose homosexuality do it of for number of reasons and are able to lay out their case in very specific, well thought out arguments. The left changed the language to suit their needs. Those that oppose them on this issue are categorized as irrational even borderline insane. Posted by: Ripley at December 01, 2016 04:25 PM (1BQGO) 400

============================== Communism is a heresy of Christianity. The commies coopted a lot of the language and feel of Christianity for their marketing campaigns. Communism sells well, it execution, however, is literally execution. A lot of people think the purpose of religion is to change the world. Most orthodox folks would say, you best focus on changing yourself first. I'm going to call HGTV and tell them I will start. Support the show. It's not the darkness. It's about the absence of light. Posted by: Golfman at December 01, 2016 04:31 PM (VjEKu) It's a really good show, just happy and fun and, hey, they make the owners face up to the fact that money doesn't grow on trees and we just found that you need $3,000 in extra repairs when we tore up the roof so what are we cutting from the budget. I don't think I can recall a single time where the first response to an expense was you need a larger loan as opposed to we have to pare the current budget. Also Part II Electric Boycottalo is up. I imagine that if you go to small town churches you would see quite the stark difference in Catholics there. Not many Hillary supporters in most towns of 2,000 people that are 95% Catholic.
Posted by: buzzion at December 01, 2016 04:24 PM (z/Ubi) I went to a very conservative church in Chicago (St. John Cantius). It was beautiful and the Mass was too. Out in the suburbs the church looks like a basement rec room and the Mass is all sing songy shit (Let's sing for peace and justice) and I want to open a can a Torquemada on them. I guess in that Equilibrium scene no one ever learned to fire from the rear of the hip in a protective crouch (gun as far away from opponent's hands as possible).
They both seem determined to achieve full-arm extension. Posted by: ace This is a real world issue, as most gun ranges strongly discourage alternate firing stances. (It's a lane safety issue). Working on weak side draw, close quarters draw and fire, fire through a pocket (of an old good will jacket), or any prone stances will get you a good dose of stinkneye, if not tossed. Leftism invades everywhere like a virus, but I wouldn't count the fakers as fellow worshipers. Posted by: Guy Mohawk at December 01, 2016 04:35 PM (ODxAs) Dr. Scott Hahn is an amazing person. A convert too IIRC. He is a professor at Franciscan University in OH - where my daughter goes. Suffice it to say - there is no left leaning commie theology taught there. BMW investment in SC since 1992: $7.2B. This is just BMW's capitalization. Feeder industries, secondary effects on retail and every other aspect of the economy over that time are profound. Upstate SC is now one of the fastest-growing Combined Statistical Area in the nation, with 1.4M people. The population of Greenville County alone has grown 65% since 1990. But yeah, a Republican guv offered them tax breaks to come. Tens of millions!!! And the press of course derided the state for, in their mind, resembling the sort of third-world country where the Germans would be happy to exploit cheap labor. plus ca change.

Ever since Twitter adopted the business practice of persecuting its conservative users I have responded to advertisements in the timeline by telling them I do not buy products which advertise on Twitter because Twitter censors based on political views. I figured that was better than just quitting like a lot of people chose to do. Just get a little snippet of text and copy and paste it in reply to the ads.
Twitter is pretty much a wasteland now. They banned all of the interesting people and you can see how much the numbers are down just looking at the numbers of re-tweets etc... Posted by: Thatch at December 01, 2016 05:20 PM (CWGHX) 473

I'm late, but to put this in perspective -
Indiana gave Carrier $6 million over 10 years to stay. They gave Honda $141 million in incentives to build a production plant in western Indiana. I feel fairly confident in saying that the money is probably not the primary reason they're sticking around. Posted by: Emile Antoon Khadaji at December 01, 2016 05:32 PM (rvzMR) 478
Do I have to actually read Buzzfeed to find out their advertisers? Seems to defeat the purpose.
Posted by: BJ54 at December 01, 2016 05:34 PM (Bed/U) 479
Just not going/buying is fine, but not enough compared to what you could accomplish if you did two more things:
1) Convince others to do the same, and 2) Tell the advertisers/retailers what you are doing, and have those you convince to stop with you to tell the advertisers/retailers the same thing. Target not seeing you in their stores anymore isn't going to affect anything. Target receiving a dozen letters from you and your 11 closest friends that say you're not going anymore will do more. Posted by: TheJamesMadison at December 01, 2016 03:25 PM (piD6/) ------------------------- This needs repeating. The left does this and makes the ceos think they have huge numbers which they do not. hell most leftist are on eBT so boycotting is meaningless. We must force multiply this way. it is all about the threat and what the ceos think about the threat. Action not so much and it is delayed by months. Welcome to Gamergate! Because not that anyone would ever learn this from the corrupt media, but that is exactly what the infamous "Alt-Right Trump loving Misogynist Virtual Raping Basement Dwelling Nechbearded Gamers" thing was actually all about. Gamers had finally had enough of the shaming and shoving, stood up, pushed back, and assigned a cost to business for knuckling under to the artificial outrage pimps of the Social Justice Brigade. Everything being said about Buzzfeed here, Gamers came to those conclusions and started that fight directed at Gawker 2 years ago. The Gamers also proved the strategy works.
