Democrats Will Have Secret Ballot Vote to Either Keep Pelosi as Minority Leader, or Dump Her for Tim Ryan

I say they keep her. Identity politics is not just part of the Democrat platform; it is the Democratic platform, the whole of it, the entirety.

"There's a generation of Democratic leaders who have been stymied or held down or even cut off at the knees to keep her and [Maryland Rep. Steny] Hoyer and others in power," the former aide added.

"So you have a number of members who look at the agendas and question why, when the country is worried about the economy and jobs, the Democrats are out talking about women power and some of the core liberal issues that aren't going to play well in the places that Democrats have to win if they’re going to take back the majority."

Sensing that unrest, Pelosi last week proposed to carve out several new leadership posts and make some of them eligible only to newer members. The changes are designed to empower the next generation of Democratic leaders, but there’s been some early pushback, as members of the Congressional Black Caucus are warning they would erode the power of African-American lawmakers. Ryan, for his part, said the proposals "will only serve to further consolidate her power over the caucus."

Although Pelosi is the favorite and Ryan the underdog, Ryan has told people to get ready for a "big surpise" tomorrow.

But that's what people always say, of course. Trying to encourage one's wavering supporters and possible supporters by suggesting there's a big wave coming.

Ah well. Not sure what I'm rooting for here.

101 O/T, here is my report on what ABC Evening News with David Muir said about the day's happenings we have discussed in earlier threads.

Note the skew.

Reporting on the Columbus incident, they headlined it with a big screen graphic, saying "ISIS?" Note the question mark, as if it is an unknown.

They then showed his Facebook quote about leave us Muslims alone, but left off the name of the ISIS ID at its end. Nice edit, ABC. You are catching up with NBC.

As for Trump, they began with a pic of him looking mean of face, and the graphic under had the phrase about flag burning and the biggest font at the end, used for the word THREAT. The casual low information viewer sees MEAN TRUMP IS A THREAT.

Now they're realizing that their "coalition" isn't enough

For giggles, let's take a look at their coalition.

--homosexuals, lady gaga fans
--SEIU
--illegal residents
--muslim radicals
--welfare careerists
--the teacher's union/AFL-CIO (but not the majority of the trade union members)
-- millenials and other immature idiots

By "welfare careerists" do you mean the bureaucrats administering the programs? If so, you forgot the FSA.
And blacks. And feminists.

It may be a pathetic coalition, but it's a very big one.

The Majority Leader in Congress will be named Paul Ryan;

The Minority Leader in Congress will be named Tim Ryan.

In the spirit of maximizing chaos, confusion and anarchy, I am now officially rooting for the guy! Imagine political writers trying to disentangle THAT mess!:

"In Congress today, Paul Ryan proposed lifting the restrictions on the ban on limiting filibuster rule updates. Tim Ryan said he's considering opposing the lifting of the restrictions. Ryan replied that he would ease the ban on the rule limits if Ryan agreed to limit the filibuster restrictions. Ryan replied that if the limits on the ban overrides the rule, then Ryan should promise Ryan not to filibuster the restrictions on the lifting of the limits. Ryan replied -- oh fuck it, I've lost track of who's who already, shit...."

If The Notorious DJT manages to enforce some immigration laws and repeal Obamacare, that will be the biggest shot in the arm the labor market could possibly see. That sense of financial insecurity will abate and the whole country will be less anxious and depressed.

(I realize Carrier may be more of a trade thing, but I remain a free trader in theory for goods. Perfectly happy to abandon those ideals to get immigration enforcement, though.)

398 Okay, so I've been held hostage by the Oak Island Series because it's a beautiful gestalt of Templars and treasure and certain death (or at least dismemberment).

I’m pleased as punch to see the History Channel is back to doing what it does best, chiefly what-if pseudohistory and Hitler. I enjoyed their “Templars in America” show and was jazzed that the Kensington Runestone might be a land claim chiseled by a 14th Century Cistertian monk from Gotland and not a hoax made by a Swedish farmer. Don’t even care if it’s true. And tonight – “Hunting Hitler”! Please please please let there be Nazis on the Moon.

I pity people like Boulder Terlit Hobo who have to weave their historical narrative threads on a rigid framework of “facts”.

My favorite History Channel tropes:
Nazis in space
Secret Nazi technology
Hitler was Totes Gay and a Blow Monkey
Remnant populations carrying on ancient traditions (see human sacrifice at Cohokia)
Ancienter civilizations that predate ancient civilizations
Travels to the new world that predate even the Vikings

Ireland is one of the stops on the circuitous route of transfers which Google uses to carefully sanitize its European profits of taxation exposure.

They've just swung too far to the left to correct themselves and they show no signs of having learned one damn thing from the election.

I was hoping they'd really shoot themselves in the ass and pick Keith Ellison, but keeping Pelosi is good too.

Picking Ryan would make life too confusing for their MSM allies, who would constantly have to distinguish between the good Ryan minority leader and the bad Ryan majority leader. For the record, I'm not nuts about either Ryan.

Older and wiser, I'm guessing that it was mostly unjustified, leftist d-baggery. but he was never really conspicuous as someone who ever did anything significant. As Johnny Carson joked before he was selected, "Bush is running - now he'll have to find someone with even less charisma than he has". Seriously, what makes Quayle worthy of a position in this administration, which needs people who will shake things up radically?

599 545 Yeah, I agree the Dems have dug themselves so deep into the identity politics hole they're not going to ditch Pelosi for a white guy - even a white guy from the heartland they need to recapture if they're going to win in 2020.

All good points, but I think the Dems know they have to do something about the "Reagan Democrats" that went to Trump. If they want to get back the Midwest, they have to find a way to appeal to those bitter, clinging-to-their-guns white guys (and women!).

I think they are going to dump Pelosi.

Posted by: qdpsteve at November 29, 2016 09:10 PM

Gravity was odd. It tried hard, but, Sandra Bullock and Clooney weren't convincing as astronauts. It was just Bullock and Clooney... in a soap opera in space. Interstellar was an interesting watch, but ultimately frustrating. The parts that dealt with time dilation etc were good, but too much of the flick was taken taken up with filler, shoehorned character development, excess subplots and forced tension and... yak, yak, yak. Plus eye rolling, forced symbolism and what near the end. It tried to pack too much in and tries too hard to be deep and meaningful.

I dunno, I think that horse may have already left the barn. I mean, why would a corporation risk bringing the home office back if a demonrat wins in 4 years? They would probably face new rules to prevent it leaving again and additional penalties. They may bring some money back, though.

What it will do is keep companies that are considering leaving a reason to stay.

I liked aspects of Oblivion, like those one eyed droids, and the sense of isolation. But I was pissed off by the fact that Cruise went for the ugly chick instead of the English girl, who was about 10x hotter. There was also creeping libtardism involved, ie. "Those deformed characters that you thought were the bad guys? They're actually the good guys. Because being ugly, deformed and unsanitary automatically means you are virtuous and oppressed". It's the sort of thing that elicits an eye roll.

hehehe... that's what i was thinking

Never saw the movie, but depending on how the two orbits of the two items concerned are oriented, if one is inside the other, with the right orbital arguments so that one's perigee is smaller than the other's by a larger amount than the first's apogee is larger than the second's, then the second would be falling towards earth "faster" than the first, at least for a certain segment of their orbits, and so it would appear from the orbital frame that the two orbits were "pulling" apart. The force involved is still, as in all orbital mechanics questions, gravity. Centrifugal/centripetal "forces" are just ephemera.
