I knew this guy only from liberal -- as obliviously liberal as the day is long. He's one of those guys who drinks the Kool-Ade then turns to you with purple-stained lips and says "I drank no Kool-Ade," and he's pass a lie detector on that, because he's one of those liberals who is so absolutely liberal he's entirely unaware there's a way to think which is not his own. He doesn't even taste the Kool-Ade. He thinks it's just Pretty Water.

I and many others cried foul when CNBC invited this New York Times stooge to interrogate the Republican primary hopefuls, and he performed down to expectations, proving to many even in the mainstream media itself that there was a lot of political bias in the media.

Earlier Wikileaks revealed he had bragged to the Hillary Clinton campaign about deliberately provoking Trump at the debate.

Harwood titled the email "I imagine…" and continued the sentence in the body of the email, writing, "…that Obama feels some (sad) vindication at this demonstration of his years-long point about the opposition party veering off the rails."
"I certainly am feeling that way with respect to how I questioned Trump at our debate," Harwood continued.

Well, maybe this Kool-Ade drinker has finally crossed the Rubiocon: Because now Wikileaks reveals that Harwood was asking Hillary Clinton's campaign manager on advice about what questions to ask then-very-possible Republican nominee Jeb Bush.

Presumably he wasn't shopping for friendly, how's-your-family-and-yoga-routines questions.

Tv doesn't have to be that smart I think. Better to get a streaming device (box or stick) to connect to your TV. If you prepay 3 months of SlingTV you can get a discount on.a rocky or Amazon FireTV I think.

I've been to one of his rallies and this is precisely what his team does. They walk up and down the lines soliciting volunteers, asking for contact info, then querying them on how they can volunteer or get boots on the ground.

I just did this. I cut the cord and went with Sling TV. If you have good internet, it will get you shows.

However, there are things TV has made us take for granted - DVR, for example. No such thing. On Demand - which there is SOME of in Sling.

It takes a while to boot the app and then load menus and switch channels, so a bit harder to surf. It requires a bit more deliberativeness than the passive cable turn it on and click.

Turnout is the key variable. There's no scientific way to model this because the changes from 2012 are too stark, including because we have two candidates with ridiculously high negatives while we had one charismatic candidate the last time.

So I worked this by looking at 2012 actuals by cohort and then handicapping where I thought turnout would come out. My assumptions:

Black turnout will be down, and closer to where white non-college was in 2012. Trump will get 15%, not 7%. Black men will be reluctant to vote for the White Witch.

White non-college will be up in turnout and % for Trump. This by far the largest cohort. And it weights to many battleground states. This is my biggest driver. You don't have to move this one lever very much.

White college goes more for Hillary than Obama -- including because of suburban women -- but turnout can't get any higher than in 2012. Many who defect from the R party because Trump is a pussy grabber are mostly in Deep Blue states.

My biggest assumption is that Hispanics won't vote for Hillary much differently than they did for Obama. He may even do better than Romney. Hispanics are mostly in Deep Blue states. Cubans in Miami aren't Mexicans.

By using 2012 as a baseline I'm accepting a level of fraud for openers, especially in key cities like Philly.

The EC favors Trump because smaller states get more weight. He could easily win the EC while being down 2% in the popular vote.

Trump's messaging works well in swing states like OH, PA and MI. He's done well to date in FL. Riots in NC will help.

Trump has had recent positive momentum in the honest polls.

I conclude Trump winning the EC tight without the Shy Tory effect, which I think will add 2%.

Pundits say that Trump must thread the needle to draw to an inside straight to climb up the insurmountable hill, but it's Hillary who has less room for error. If Trump wins FL and NC and start chilling the champagne. Pop the cork when he wins one more like PA or MI.

By going with Sling I am still putting some money in somebody's pocket, they still have licensing fees or what have you. Sling is owned by Dish so if Dish is assholish, well, they are getting that. But less of it. And I have the service without ESPN so those assholes arent getting my money.

Since this would compete against their satellite service, I suspect it will never get really "good"

I just don't know anymore, on one hand I promised myself I would never get sucked into "poll doctoring" after 2012 on the other hand, I saw what happened in 2014 (polls were MASSIVELY wrong and favored Democrats) and then Brexit.

I also think polling in general is sort of dead for a variety of reasons. There were once objective, scientific polling out fits that have instead decided this is just another weapon they can use to create events.

I'm leaning slightly towards Trump winning, but I am a wreck, that's for sure.

The final ABC poll has a D+7 sample with hillary up by 4 and CBS has what appears to be a D+6 advantage with hillary leading by 3. obama is the only Democrat in modern history to get those levels of turnout and then only in 2008. In 2012 he only managed a D+4 and barely squeaked by Romney.

Tomorrow will tell. No matter who wins they will be damaged goods and be a one and done President.

I don't think Romney ever looked "strong" in the polling, state by state he was losing most of the battlegrounds like Florida and Ohio.

I though Gallup the day before gave him +1 over Obama and was the only poll that had him ahead. It was clear though the trend was down after the Hurricane. Most of what people thought were undecided voters would break for the challenger.

Here's the thing, if Democrats turn out +7 to Republicans, it almost doesn;t matter who runs as the election will already be determined.

I don't think they exceed the coalition Obama put together.

This remark suffers from a begged question. There are no special carve-outs for a journalist/press set of people. Inasmuch as Harwood and similar wankers are treated as having special privileges... they don't. Not constitutionally. Ace has equal special rights to be journalisty as Harwood does, by an originalist read.

The freedom of the press is intertwined with the essential freedoms of speech. No "journalist" has rights to say anything (or collude outside the law) in any way fundamentally different than a citizen.

Special freedoms are an extraordinary claim. We as citizens are supposed to have more than we do, but Harwood sure as shit isn't an exalted class and there must be a reckoning. Which I suppose will dovetail with your point, from another direction.

Same at my household, I just finally cut it over her objection because it had creeped up to like $180 with basic cable and internet, no premium channels and no DVR or cable box. It was ridiculous.

282 I've liked the LA Times poll a lot this season. I especially like it as an accurate gauge of voter movement toward a candidate.

At Trump +8, I have a hard time believing it.

But it does accurately show a 6 point move in Trump's direction in the last week. This is a critical difference over 2012. There Romney had a lead, but the last few days of momentum went to Obama. You can't say that this year. Final momentum is all toward Trump.

Trump sounded very confident of winning FL, NC, and MI today, and Obama going to MI shows that is where the battleground is. Remember Trump was strong there, and Clinton lost to Bernie after the polls said she would easily win.

So we will see. Trump has a chance here, a lot depends on how many of those early Dem votes were actually for Trump.

One nutty thing the final Fox poll says Hillary by 4 or 5, but it also says 96% of Dems will vote for Clinton. I flat out don't believe that one.

In fast and testimony meeting during church yesterday (Mormons do a collective fast the first Sunday of every month), our Bishop (pastor) bore his testimony on the importance of voting and voting your conscience. (Did not say how to vote just that we should.) He started to talk about how every vote counts, and someone from the congregation actually shouted out at him "that's not true!" He kept trying to refute but the Bishop was finally able to silence him and continue his testimony. I have never ever seen that happen in my life, no one ever rebuts someone's testimony. Unheard of. Unprecedented.

Mormons are raised to be civically minded, they vote. All the "good" Mormons I know are either fully on the McMuffin train and happily say so, or they are silent (which I hope means they are voting Trump begrudgingly.)

Went to a party Saturday, my political wonk friend is all in for McMuffin and he was even wearing his shirt, sigh.

Ugh I both fear and hope for tomorrow to come soon and swift, and finally be over with.

I agree with the analysis you gave, I feel both that Trump is stronger in the polling numbers, with momentum, and simply with engaging the grassroots than Romney was.

AND Hillary is no OBAMA that can draw in that coalition at 110%.

328 Well ... fivethirtyeight continually revises Trump's chances down. I have no idea how reliable they are. Have looked at their methodology, their weighting of various polls. Can't see anything consistent that jumps out at me.

My gut two weeks ago was take the totals and shift the reported margin of error away from Hillary to Trump - as most media polls would still try to subtly shift margins to Hillary while covering their ass by staying within the MOE.

Doesn't matter I reckon. Voting Trump regardless. Whomever don't like it can kiss my ass. Not like I'm Mr. Popularity anyway.

I am no real fan of the direction Teddy Roosevelt sent our country in. However, I am reaching the point where if a new TR were to say that "the media trusts" must be broken up in order to restore freedom of the press, I would at least listen.

I had sort of written America off politically after Obama, than 2010 came around and snapped back.

Then 2012, I again just sort of thought it was over. Than 2014 was even a bigger middle finger to Obama.

I thought Trump was DOA as our nominee even though I liked the platform a lot, and then he started moving up and even beating Hillary in the polls. I knew people that weren't political suddenly get fired up about Trump being President.

So I'll definitely be more pissed if we came this close only to get our herts broken.

Yeah, they were married. They had a son and a daughter, I think, that sing with them (one or the other) on occasion. Good voices and they harmonize well with their dad.

Normally it would work, and it'd be better than just assuming 2012, which is what many pollsters are doing.

But this is an unusual cycle which will IMHO have very different turnout patterns, as well as shifts in voting patterns.

Trump loses from some combination of (1) white non-college not showing up, (2) substantial R defections because of pussy grabbing, and (3) a huge anti-Trump Hispanic wave.

I expect white non-college will far outweigh #2, and #3 won't happen.

356 I was putting my bags on the conveyor in the TSA pre-check line yesterday morning at Dulles airport when my wife looked back and noticed John Podesta standing right behind me. I turned around and sure enough he was right there - with a big Hillary pin on his lapel. It was surreal and I hate to admit that I was tongue tied. I had about 15 seconds to say whatever I wanted to that SOB but said nothing as he ran off to his flight. I've since thought of a zillion things I could have said but didn't. What would any of you said in that situation? BTW, he is all of 5'8" and 135 lbs.
