The Morning Report 11/1/16 [J.J. Sefton]

1-Dog-Peeing-Anti-Hillary-Political-Trump-Campaign-_1.jpg

One week left. Wow. In the "you've gotta be shittin' me Pyle" pile, a Podesta crony at DoJ will be leading the Huma probe. I expect a recusal any minute now. Yup, any minute now. And, although not linked below, the FBI is looking into ex-Trump campaign chief Paul Manafort's links to the Russkies. While he does have questionable ties to them, I hope Le Grande Orange hits back with Hillary's criminal uranium sellout. Finally at the bottom, a scary story about a potential flashpoint with the ChiComs. As usual, ignore the polls, have a better one, and remain blessed.

Musical pick of the day . . .

The info they've put out reads as utter nonsense from a
technical standpoint. There was an exchange on Twitter yesterday in
which many geeks were trying to figure what the person who wrote thought
he meant.

It's amazing how some people think this stuff
works. One moment of cognitive dissonance was a few years ago when I
reread John Barnes' 'Mother of Storms.' There was one plot thread that
revolved around the way the planetary network worked. This was written
at a time when the online populace was tiny but not pre-WWW. Barnes was
really attached to an idea for how a hack worked or simply had never
talked to anyone about how something as common today as email actually
worked. He has messages whizzing around the net eternally until the
intended recipient came online to grab it as it went by, like a suitcase
going by on a airport luggage handler.

Reading the account of the 'computer scientists' yesterday reminded me of that.

45 Morning, 'rons and 'ronettes. Forgive the sketchy details of this story, but I only thought about it as I drove in to work this morning, the cold chilling my bones:

In the early 19th century, there was a famous operatic baritone who was also a large, powerful man. He happened to be touring America at one point and ended up in a hotel that was also hosting "General" Tom Thumb, P.T. Barnum's famous midget.

It so happened that a man wanted to be introduced to Thumb and asked the hotel desk clerk where his room was. By mistake, he was given the number of the baritone's room. When the visitor knocked on the door, rather than the wee uniformed figure he expected to see, he was confronted by a six-foot-tall barrel-chested hunk of manhood.

"I'm sorry," the visitor said, hesitantly, "I was looking for Tom Thumb."

"Oh, yes,"
the singer smiled, deciding to play a joke on the man. "I'm Tom Thumb."

The visitor's jaw dropped. "But. . but. . Tom Thumb is the smallest man in the world!"

"In public, yes,"
the singer answered. "But when I'm relaxing, I like to stretch out a little bit."

Nice! The two houses across the street have had or now have Trump signs on display.

We have never done the election sign routine as up until a decade ago, the local HS brats would seize them (and realtor signs, too) to plant en masse at the favored home of the night, which also got festooned with toilet paper. The favored home, BTW, was hosting a party for the HS band. When our term came, Mrs. Krebs threatened the miscreants that things would be over -- OVER -- if just one sign or just one Sheryl Crow of TP showed up in our yard.

"I don't mind hosting you, but I won't put up with your vandalism." Other, more "my kids are my pals"-type, parents were appalled by her killjoy attitude.

.No matter how the polls change in Trump's favor which they are doing now, I bet we will start seeing dozens of articles and stories about how the race is too close to call on election day and night.

Trump has the momentum and hillary is struggling. Her trust took another big hit and she is now more despised than Trump ever was. The polls are tightening and I admit it looks like Trump will win this unless he does something incredibly stupid which is very possible.

That's it for today folks. All Scankles all the time. And how was the Halloween for the Morons? I only had one group of kids come by for trick or treat. About 6 people in that group. As I said yesterday, it appears to be a dying tradition. I manned the door from 6 pm until 9:30 pm. This is the slowest year I have ever seen. Well, I have a yuuuge bowl of candy to eat up now. I think next year I am going to do like the rest of the neighbors on my end of the block. Turn off the exterior lights and abandon trick or treat.

You know that had to be Huma.

.And you know damn good and well the Chinese have that information.

When I worked at the Navy War College we forbade any of our people who traveled to China from bringing any Government phones or laptops with them because the Chinese constantly hacked into them and left virus after virus in them.

If they wanted to take their latest research papers they had to literally take paper copies for conferences.

____________________

The problem is not legit service dogs (such as those that are trained to help the blind, etc.), but the fact that so many asswipes are gaming the system and taking their untrained and yelping pets with them everywhere they go.

I was in the Post Office once, standing in line behind a woman holding a minpin. They are stubborn little dogs, and difficult to train (I had one for 16 years). They aren't used as service dogs for that reason. The minpin was barking a lot, as they are prone to do, and a clerk looked over and said "You can't have that dog in here." The woman smirked and responded "It's a service dog" and that was that. The clerk just shrugged and did nothing.

People who want to take their ill-behaved pets into places where pets are not allowed know that all they have to do now is claim it's a service animal. They probably won't get challenged to show papers, but if they do, they can either say they forgot them, or they can whip out the papers you can now print off the internet. Either way, doggie most likely gets to stay where doggie doesn't belong, because the establishment owners are so afraid of making the wrong call and then being sued.

121 A bit of good news via Clinton Nooze Network:

SCOTUS denied an emergency request from the Ohio Democrat Party to put on hold provisions of 2 election laws concerning absentee and provisional ballots.

The Democrats, joined by the NE Ohio Coalition for the Homeless objected to parts of the laws that require absentee/provisional ballots be rejected unless voters have "perfectly" filled in 5 fields of information.

A federal appeals court largely upheld both laws and when the Dems asked SCOTUS to intervene and stay the ruling, they issued a one sentence statement declining to do so.

Actually, I remember the razor blades/poison scare back in the early/mid-70s when I was a trick-or-treater. It still didn't much affect the hordes and hordes of kids that roamed the neighborhoods on Halloween. It must be something else that's killing the tradition. We had one doorbell ring last night. One. I kinda feel a bit sorry for kids today. We waited all year for Halloween and loved coming home with our pillowcases full of candy. I guess the combo of trunk-or-treat type events and scared helicopter parents started killing off what we've all known.

131 The news of criminal conduct by Dems out there is staggering in its overwhelmingness. It has gotten to the point where whenever you see something new, even if you know it would be more than enough to put anyone else away for a long time, your mind automatically begins prioritizing the crime to see if its bigger or smaller than any of the thousands of other crimes that have been recently revealed.

It's getting harder and harder as the crimes pile up and for Clinton, that's good. People don't want to spend the time trying to figure out the magnitude of the crime.

138 The School Choice amendment 'would authorize the state to temporarily step in to assist chronically failing public schools and rescue children languishing in them'

Problem is the parents of a lot of those kids don't give a crap one way or another. A choice of which government school they send their kids to is beyond their capacity. The whole thing is probably doomed anyway.
Posted by: freaked at November 01, 2016 06:58 AM (BO/km)

School choice is a losing issue. First, people who have moved to certain neighborhoods for good schools don't want kids from the failed school next door. There is a reason those schools have failed and bringing that problem over to your school is not a vote getter. Same goes for most private schools who then have to put up with Juan or Jamal complaining about racism all of the time.

The only way school choice wins votes is if it becomes the state hands you a check and you get to go where you want with no strings attached. And the schools get to discriminate however they want with potential students.

146 The first time I did trick or treat was either 1969 or 1970, and the legends of poisoned candy apples and such were rife then. (Which probably inspired the razor blade in the apple bit Stephen Donaldson put in the first Thomas Covenant novel)

I think it was a reaction to people who gave out home made stuff nobody wanted. Stuff like the aforementioned candy apples and popcorn.

147 My family hosts a Halloween get together every year, since our neighborhood historically has a lot of trick or treating. Many of our other family/friends live in places where trick or treating is not a thing.

This year was disappointing - about half the houses were all dark, and aside from the 16 kids we were hosting, maybe about 20 were making the rounds. Definitely less than last year.

Old Fogey Time: When I was about ten years old my mom would just send me out by myself and just tell me not to stay out "too late." I'd get in around 9:30ish and she was fine with that. Can't imagine parents these days letting their kids roam around and getting candy from people until 9:30 these days.

Maybe people are becoming numb to the wild, paranoid stories of doom? We had around 20 groups of kids and we aren't even on one of the main routes the kids use every year. However we do a lot of decorating so that may help attract them Our kids went out of about an hour and a half with some friends and brought back loads of treats. Nobody hurt by poison, razor blades, child kidnappers or cracks in the sidewalk. Paranoid kill-joy nannies hardest hit.

Unfortunately yes, most do. We have had runaway inflation since the days of LBJ contrary to all the lies pumped out by the government. You can see it readily in the price of a car. My father bought a brand new 1958 V-8 Ford in 1958 for $2,000. That same car now would cost close to $40,000. If you look at all the pics of small grocery stores on Shorpy you see stuff like cans of vegetables for 5 cents. They are over a dollar now. That 1930 Betty Crocker cookbook wifey just got me the standard can of vegetables was a number 2 can. I had to research to find what that was. It was a 20 once can. There is no such thing as that now.

Our solution was, whenever the bottom of the pillowcase got full we'd run home and drop off the candy, then go back out for more. That way, if we ran into Candy Muggers, we didn't lose the whole evening's work. And this had the advantage of getting us bigger hauls, as our empty bags got us extra pity candy at a lot of stops.

Jill Stein or Gary Johnson who have no chance or whomever the other third party candidates are.

Hilary Clinton who accepted thousands and thousands of dollars from regimes which execute gays and kill women for adultery

Or Trump-who's a loudmouth blowhard who said some questionable stuff and maybe kissed someone against their will but loves America

199 Inflation is a funny thing. Especially if the product in question is tech. It doesn't seem like that long ago that a decent laptop was at least $1500 and that seemed like a great advance at the time. Now, to spend that much on a new laptop would require it to be very high spec in some way or another. Yet the dollars being used are worth less, so the price drop and improvement in the tech is far more dramatic than is immediately obvious.

When I checked a few years ago, the Six Million Dollar Man had inflated to the 27 million and Change Man. Probably close to Thirty Million by now. It's amusing now to see an old show like that 40+ years later and realize the technology required had to be fantastically ahead of what we have even now but somehow developed completely in secret.

I would never discount the Democrats.

They are a legitimate political party that has an agenda they want to advance and a nationwide army of dedicated foot soldiers to deploy.

They also have innumerable federally funded front groups like La Raza and Murder Inc. that electioneer and literally bus their people to the polls to vote.

They also have the MSM and pretty much every cultural institution that amplifies and reinforces their narratives, talking points and agenda.

The GOP sadly is not a legitimate political party.

The one good thing about having a Democrat run as a Republican is that he fights to win.

220 Nobody actually believed that city transit workers would go out on strike. There's almost always a period where they work without a contract and get a big lump sum for the difference between the current pay and the new pay when a contract is signed. This time, boom!, everything shut down at midnight.

Lucky for me, the suburban trains run on a different contract, and I have two different lines between my city neighborhood and Philly's main rail station, and two warm days for the one-mile walk from there to campus.

They fear this might drag on until holiday retail shopping becomes imperiled.

A Clinton Administration would usher in Hillary's dream of a "hemispheric common market", which would put the USA into a binding trade pact similar to the European Economic Community, which metastasized into the European Union. 258 The American Democrat Media Complex is too lazy, partisan, and stupid to analyze the Wikileaks emails, but of all places, The Guardian, that left wing POS from the country formerly known as Great Britain, has read them, and concluded they reveal that the American ruling class are an insular, greedy, corrupt, rotten cabal of Democrat politicians, billionaire donors, and paid-off media sycophants:

http://tinyurl.com/zrjapny

This genre of Podesta email, in which people try to arrange jobs for themselves or their kids, points us toward the most fundamental thing we know about the people at the top of this class: their loyalty to one another and the way it overrides everything else. Of course Hillary Clinton staffed her state department with investment bankers and then did speaking engagements for investment banks as soon as she was done at the state department. Of course she appears to think that any kind of bank reform should 'come from the industry itself'. And of course no elite bankers were ever prosecuted by the Obama administration. Read these emails and you understand, with a start, that the people at the top tier of American life all know each other. They are all engaged in promoting one another's careers, constantly.

In one famous email chain, for example, the reader can watch current US trade representative Michael Froman, writing from a Citibank email address in 2008, appear to name President Obama's cabinet even before the great hope-and-change election was decided (incidentally, an important clue to understanding why that greatest of zombie banks was never put out of its misery).

287 Half of Obamacare enrollees are skipping doctor visits to save money, according to a report from GfK, a market research group.

Only 33 percent of the general insured population is doing the same, according to the report.

And I am sure the figures are even worse than that being reported
Posted by: Nevergiveup at November 01, 2016 08:24 AM (EbeEQ)

It's because Obamacare plans are poorly designed catastrophic coverage plans. The plans, until the start of next year, didn't effect me too much because Mrs. WOPR has some severe health issues. I was used to high premiums with high deductibles. It's why an HSA was great. Now no HSA and I'll end up with co-pays. It is going to hurt really bad.

How does that work exactly? If there is really a national tie in voter preference, then Hillary has a huge advantage in CA and NY. Meaning Trump overperforms the rest of the country. I don't think that math works. Clinton needs a D+6 turnout at least to win. At least that is what Obama needed in 2012.

We don't need any free movement of labor since we're already way oversupplied for the current level of demand. Unless it's freely moving the other way.

It's a prime example of the why Hillary shouldn't have had a private server --- once she got those classified docs off the secured network/over the air gap they were no longer secured; easily forwarded by anyone who received them, which we now know Huma regularly did.

There is no accounting of the Clinton money flows that allegedly go to the Foundation. When HSBC was caught laundering a couple/few billion for drug cartels, Lynch got them off with a "small" fine no one in jail. BUT, in finding the $2B, they said they had "mishandled" (I forget the exact wording, but it was wrong handling to hide the laundering) mishandled over a TRILLION. It appeals to their vanity, and the disconnect between sovereignty and borders doesn't occur to them or phase them. Indeed, some see it as being enlightened as being beyond nationalism.

And since they, like most people, don't understand basic math, the notion of an open system with far higher demands than inputs is beyond them.

436 Easy to forget how recent the notion of a "nation" is in world affairs. That "Westphalian State" was a brand-new notion, in the generation of the founders. There's a long tradition in America that all the evils in the world stem from Nationalism, and not every expression of it is leftist, as it predates world communism. The American state was going to be different, the antidote to the kingly states and treaty states of Old World.

Big-"L" LP had every opportunity to state this in the same sort of airiness that's used by the major parties for generally Christian notions, or happy-la-la socialist ones. Work toward a world where no borders are needed, they might have said. But No. They had to make it a platform plank, as if every bad thing would melt away liek the morning mist as soon as the US dropped its pants and bent over. Not even a polite request for the rest of the world to reciprocate. Unserious.

Hillary Clinton is projected to easily win the White House, according to the final installment of a closely followed economic election model from Moody's Analytics. A week from Election Day, the latest model on Tuesday forecast Clinton winning 332 electoral votes to Donald Trump's 206.

If Clinton won 332 electoral votes, it would match President Obama's 2012 total, but be less than the 365 electoral votes Obama won in 2008.The final map shows the Democrat winning key states like Nevada, Colorado, Florida and Pennsylvania, all of which would help lift Clinton past the 270 electoral votes she needs to win the election.

Sure guys. Sure.

Also, once currying favor with Hillary is no longer anything with any potential profitability attached to it, a whole lot of wealthy interests who have been okay with having the Clintons' son-in-law steadily lose their money in his hedge fund will suddenly not be okay with him doing so any longer.

Gloria Swanson at least was sexy.

Sunset Boulevard story: during the filming, someone asked William Holden, who was a notorious ladies' man, if he'd scored with Swanson.

Holden answered that no, he and Swanson were just friends. His problem was staying out of the way of Swanson's mother, who had the galloping hots for him!

In one sense it barely matters. With the facades all ripped away as they are, the system as we knew it is severely damaged--perhaps fatally.

2008-2012 was a logical, if infuriating and in ways tragic, result of what had gone before. After this year, it's uncharted territory.

I'm presuming you know the story, Mr Peebles, but for those of the Horde who don't. . .

Billy Wilder, Sunset's director, took a perverse pleasure in the whole "monkey" bit, and subtly referenced a bit of bestiality in Desmond's line about "he always liked fires. . and poking at them."

During one take of the scene where Norma pulls the sheet off the monkey to show it's corpse to Joe Gillis, Wilder's direction to her was, "Now remember, Gloria, Norma was fucking the monkey!"

Swanson walked off the set until Wilder apologized in front of the crew.

473 On the Georgia "School Choice" thing, I voted against it...I'm not opposed to the idea...I don't like the way it was structured. One of my coworkers has been pushing for it (he's sort of an unofficial staffer for a state rep). He could not give me a good argument for it...I gave him shit for his argument being "it's for the children". When I brought the potential for it to be used as a political bludgeon, his response was, "but Gov Deal won't do that". Yeah, he wont, but what about his successors?

First, it's another amendment to the state constitution; this could (and should) have been done in the OCGA legislatively, instead of with the permanence of a constitutional amendment. That would allow for adjustments to be more easily made, but I guess it was done this way to not affect people's reelection chances. Two, it creates more bureaucracy requiring more tax dollars. Three, I didn't feel that there was enough outside oversight built in; everyone directly involved on a day-to-day level would be appointed.

I'm all for shitcanning teacher's unions and fixing the schools, but this is a flawed initiative that's going to go down in flames, not only because it's flawed, but also because the timing sucks. In the current climate, people aren't going to vote for something that increases control on local issues from a higher level of government.

The left thinks that it can control the human spirit, but in fact the very instruments of their control - libido, physical luxury, psychological comfort - do not obey their commands.
