The National Republican Congressional Committee is running an ad praising Representative Bob Dold who represents the Democratic-leaning 10th District in Illinois for having bucked Donald Trump, the party's presidential nominee. This is the first time the NRCC, the committee charged with electing Republicans to the House, has explicitly used the message that not supporting the Republican presidential nominee is a good thing.
"Dold is an independent voice who stood up to Donald Trump months ago," the narrator in the ad says. The ad then shows a clip of Dold declaring, on CNN, "I think Donald Trump has disqualified himself."
The ad has been on air since earlier this week. It does not appear on the NRCC's website, and the NRCC declined to comment on it.

We have one kind of like that here in Virginia, but not so extreme. Barbara Comstock is the R Congresswoman in the District next to mine, the only R in congress from around here. She was not happy with Trump after his "locker room" comments, and said so.
I'm hearing ads for her on the radio, paid for by NRCC, that feature two people talking about the election. One asks the other for whom they are voting, and the other answers, "For president, hm, I don't really know yet. But for Congress, Barbara Comstock because . . ." and then goes into a list of bad things about the Dem.
I was shocked when I heard it, because it would have been very easy to just make the commercial about the Congressional race without bringing up the presidential race at all, no matter how obliquely.

This, of course, is the true model behind all those 'free' healthcare systems that the Left loves so much (via massive taxation), but somehow it would be cruel and heartless to turn people away from care because they couldn't pay.
There are essentially two options: 1) guarantee care, and enforce payment by law, which will require, of course, a massive bureaucracy and enforcement regime, or 2) give care only in return for payment. This option regulates itself.
Both recognize that people have to pay for themselves, but the socialist option pretends that it's altruism and kindness when its really government extortion and empowerment.

When Trump wins, it will be time for everyone on the right to learn what the term "single payer" means and what it could mean.
Right now, the catastrophic healthcare industry is almost entirely government-run single payer. There is only a tiny slice of the population who will use privately funded healthcare in that capacity.
Between Medicare (for seniors), Medicaid (for the poor) and the VA (for veterans), the population who actually use catastrophic care are covered by the government.
In the private insurance industry, you have the segment of the population who rarely, if ever, uses this level of care. Sure, there are young people who will get into accidents or contract cancer, but statistically, they are a tiny fraction of the whole.
There is no reason why these people couldn't be absorbed into the Medicare population for basic care. Yes, there will eventually be some limits put on what will be treated, but individuals will always have the option of paying for additional care themselves.
The big difference for the political parties should be the everyday care. Government run catastrophic care should be limited to just that - catastrophic care. Medical attention for those things in life that are unexpected and for which individuals would have a very difficult time preparing for by themselves.
For everyday care, doctor's visits, broken arms, cuts, the flu, etc. care should be provided by free market, competitive care givers on a fee for service basis. Health Savings Accounts should be the norm across the spectrum even for the poor, seniors and veterans.
It's important that we bring that direct connection of provider and consumer back so that people know what they are receiving and how much it cost.
On the catastrophic side, we need to set clear standards and limits on what the taxpayer will pay for. Without limits, eventually every dollar in the economy will be spent on health care.

In my ideal model, every family would have an advanced degree nurse under contract, who looks out for their general health. This nurse would be also working for or with a pharmacy chain and a testing lab.
When someone gets sick, it's this nurse who gathers the initial information, orders the basic tests and determines which specialist to contact (via video chat).
Much more efficient and patient friendly.

I just got my bill for hand surgery. They charged Tricare $4,515.00 and Tricare paid them $782.00 and they will "write off" the $3733 as a loss.

And the only reason I still debate is that I am completely convinced that her Democrat opponent is as thoroughly corrupt as the Clintons are (which used to be a difficult achievement for a Republican)!

If you sample a hospital floor you will find every known species of antibiotic resistant bacteria known. Where do these strains come from? The last thing most doctors do before injecting an antibiotic is flush the syringe and needle of air by squirting some of the antibiotic out. This causes a spill on the floor - bacteria on the floor around the edge of the spill develop antibiotic resistance. The failure to use bleach on the floor allows that bacteria to spread. Worse the water used to wash the floor is poured down drains spreading the resistant bacteria into the wild.

.They do that because they and other polls over sampled Republican turnout in 2012 which doesn't appear to be a problem this cycle. It wasn't by 4 points different though and Romney didn't help as he wasn't exactly the most inspiring candidate so I am thinking they are messing up again, but we will see.

I hear you on that. We are at the end of our neighborhood in a cul-de-sac. I make sure all the lights are on, I put out lanterns in the trees, we carve lots of jack-o-lanterns, and if it's halfway decent I sit on the porch with the basket of candy so they know we want them to come by!
I guess that sounds kind of creepy. Hmmm.
With three girls, we've supplied the neighborhood with babysitters for years and years so we would often get the little kids that they sat for. Now many of those kids are too old to trick-or-treat.

Kid the Elder has "slippery veins" and because of her thyroid, gets regular blood draws. She often ends up with butterfly needle on the hand (ouch).

There is a giant "Halloween" house nearby. The owner is a dentist ( it's NOT NGU!.. swearsies!) who goes so all-out for Halloween that everybody goes there. They even have to close down the highway ramps nearby and the news helicopters make a flyby too. We buy just enough candy, in case, and then have to eat it after so it doesn't go to waste.
I do miss seeing little kids showing off their costumes, especially because they aren't PC yet and don't need safe-spaces. :-)

The ass ignored me and stuck me twice in the arm only to have the vein collapse. Then she did the hand and I said, "Maybe you should try listening to your patients for a change."

I would love to hear what Nate Silver has to say about the phone adjustment, but I don't have a facebook account to post a comment. If you have one, can you post the following question?
"I am concerned about the automatic 6 point adjustment made to account for difference in cell phone and land line usage. This adjustment is made by practically all pollsters, but is most clearly outlined by Emerson College Methodology:
"...survey data is weighted with a 3 point decrease in Conservative opinion and a 3 point increase in Liberal opinion to offset the bias in land line only telephone polls. "
This adjustment is based on data from a 2010 Pew survey that may be out of date on the mixture of cell only, land line only and dual use households.
Anyone have more recent data?

I have visited plenty of rural hospitals through my job, and many of them, and walk in clinics make you take your shoes off at the door, with the primary reason to keep mud and water (snow in the winter) off their floors. something I have always thought highly unsanitary.
Is this something you see?

.A 6 year old study is hopelessly out of date with the constantly changing cell and land line phone issue, but there is some precedence there as most pollsters over sampled Republicans in 2012, but it wasn't by six points. I think the worst I saw was 2 points.
