OK maybe not but would anyone be surprised to find out that was true?

You say, "never ... vote for them again" as if they care about continuity. They don't. Like Boehner, they only care about short term, personal security. They don't care that the whole thing goes to shit after they drop dead. They are nihilists. Boehner got a sweet lobbying position, so he doesn't give a shit about who occupies his seat after him. This is why I think the world may end up in the absurd situation in which Israel is the safest place in the world. Because they are the only ones who have a government that is not (so far) willing to sell out their own people for individual short term gains.

They are Uniparty and I don't consider Trumpism GOPe except in the "use it as a vehicle for inserting a protest vote" sense.

MFM delenda est. Then Democrat Party delenda est. Finally, GOP delenda est. Then maybe we'll have a country worth saving again.

It's painful to think that this current situation we're in has been going on since 1950. Behind the scenes, slowly as they infiltrated all the government agencies and took over the universities and Dept of Edu. Only today do we see the fruits of their labor.
It was a long con. A fucking LONG con. And today, they have a fully functioning Death Star.
I always wondered how things could go so off the rails from 1980 until now. Turns out it's been in process since 1950 or so and it's taken that long to turn generations of Americans into mush, fill their heads with ridiculous socialist propaganda and send them out into leadership positions in every government agency and corporation. Not to mention the military.
I just pray it's not to late, since it seems that everyone is finally catching on to the ruse.

This.

We have laws that would be effective if enforced.

But they've actively subverted by the current administration and no one has taken meaningful action against it.

The only law needed is one that ensures bad people do the right thing. Perhaps a private right of action against government officials (personally) for failure to act diligently.

Hate the concept but our government is so broken...

We homeschool our kids.

Try getting an ID for your home-schooled kid that will satisfy the requirements for them to sit for the PSAT.

We have been around an entire range of mountains with the local school district here; there is a beautiful catch-22 in the district rules for issuing these things, and a collective IQ lower than 22 on the part of the staff who administer the rules.

That said, we'd be in great shape if my son were "undocumented". Those folks sail through these district rules (I mean, seriously; Byzantium owes these people a monument). But actual citizens who have just not been part of the system since age 5 are in for it.

You see a similiar progression in late Roman and early Dark Ages history where people gave up their freedoms, but it was because they were facing death and starvation and it was over generations.

Here though the choice seems to be feel smug about yourself and bring in the barbarians to put a boot in your face forever, or vote for an asshole under whom your society will almost certainly continue.

249 It is just after 4:00 p.m. on October 26, 2016.

To each and every one of you who are still fighting the primary wars, let me say to you, with every bit of sincerity of which I am capable (AND I AM TOO CAPABLE OF SINCERITY), stop holding a grudge.

When I, the keeper of multiple volumes of the Dwarven Book of Grudges, tell you to stop holding a grudge, you need to stop it.

I fail to see what possible practical point there can be for those who are flapping about their tiny, flaccid supposed virtue of not voting for Trump in the primary at this point in time. What are you attempting to accomplish, other than removing all doubt? What actual, tangible purpose do you hope to achieve?

For those who are shrieking back at them, why? Why are you bothering? Do you think that you will convince the Never Trump obsessives to stop it? What possible practical use is this argument?

I will make an offer to both sides. I will stipulate the following:

Never Trumpers, you are right. Those who voted for Trump in the primary are responsible for the death of the United States and the heartbreak of psoriasis. You are clearly more intelligent, wittier and better looking. Clearly.

Trump voters, you are right. This was the only possible way to punch the GOP in the face for the manifold betrayals over the years. You are clearly the only ones who act in accordance with the GOP's previously held bedrock principle of personal accountability. You are the true bearers of the conservative flag. So stipulated.

Now that we have all acknowledged that My Side is right and the Other Side is full of icky Yankees fans who are also furries, everyone can sit down, shut up and bask in their own awesomeness.

Agreed? Good.

251 Has there ever been a time before where a people have so explicitly been given a choice as to whether they want to end their society or not?

Well, the folks in the Northern Kingdom probably never thought anything bad would ever happen to them (what with God 'with them' and whatnot) right up until the Assyrians took the lot of them into captivity. Same with Judah and Babylon, a generation or two later.

The Romans probably never thought their empire would fall, either.

Nature of the business. You get fat, lazy and complacent - and suddenly a horde of barbarians is knocking through your fortifications.

We could, however, be the first to hold the door open, perpetually, for our invaders. So there's that. We've become too stupid, fat and distracted to even bother paying attention.

Posted by: DocJ at October 26, 2016 04:04 PM (5Nr9V)

252 If a person really wants to stay engaged with our politicians you can easily do it at the county level. It's a little harder at the state rep level but not impossible to engage them. At the state wide level; governor, state judge, Supreme Court in the case of my state its harder but it's not impossible to make elected officials behave. At the federal level it's too far gone to fix. Too many other places don't think like we do. They think we're stupid and can be steamrolled by the transparent corruption.

Secede. It's our only hope.

***
I don't think there is an objective way to determine how the various Republican contenders would have done if they had beaten Trump in the primary.

Trump was willing to make an issue of immigration and actually attack the Clintons. Romney and McCain largely failed against Obama because they didn't (in their cases attack Obama).

Neither Rubio nor Cruz have Trump's wild streak, so if one imagines either running a more disciplined version of Trump's campaign they would likely be doing better. But neither showed the interest or ability to do so in the primaries did they?

Its old hat at this point but the GOPe has no one to blame but itself. Had it actually fought against Obamacare and the current invasion of illegals they could have had their Yeb or lil Marco on the top of the ticket right now.

He had a character named Norma Loquendi (the norms of common speech) constantly at odds with "correct" usage. Eventually, Norma always wins out. If absolutely everyone says fla-sed, then it's fla-sed.

To be honest, at some point, Red China will call the loan, and when we can't pay, trying to foreclose won't end well either.

That's the best part of secession: telling the US Treasury "hey, DC, you borrowed that, not us." All of Dixie from Texas to Carolina will get up and walk away from the table just as the waiter shows up with the check.

The thing is, the Beltway Republican establishment figure that in a post-amnesty political milieu, their comparative importance, their social status, and their access to boodle won't change very much from where it is now.

And they're just as wrong about that as everything else.

Look at Commiefornia, which used to be "Reagan Country" and which has now become a de facto one-party satrapy due to immigration and GOPe ineptitude.

The establishment Republicans in Sackamanura now have a sad. Because they wield *far* less actual power and influence now, in their marginalized permanent-minority position, and they take in a fraction of the lobbying money and outside perks that they once did.

The small rump of Republicans left in D.C after amnesty are similarly going to be shut out of the games which have serious stakes. Hey, you losers get away from the table! Go play the penny slots and stop bothering the high rollers, capisce?

Actually, the dollar imploding is far worse than any other currency destruction in history because with those other currencies there were many major currencies still living and thriving that could be used. When the dollar goes tits up there's nothing to replace it with. The only other major currencies are tiny in comparison and they are all going to go tits up with the dollar, anyway.

The world has lived through the destructions of many major currencies. Many. But the dollar being destroyed will be an event that the world has never seen. Nothing even close. The dollar, being the world's trade and reserve currency and the main currency for the largest economy in the world will make the fall of the dollar absolutely unprecedented. And very, very, very ugly.

If there was a major hit to the economic system there would be bad stuff in the short term.

Starvation though is unlikely baring an actual civil war - there is plenty of food in the US and plenty of land to grow food on.

I would expect that a leftwing dominated society that ran out of money would set the FSA to resource gathering of various sorts, and no they wouldn't have a choice in the matter if they wanted to eat. Some members of the left have even said that is their long term plan for the FSA.

If there was a civil war at the same time though the cities would be in a lot of trouble. Most of the farmland and people that know how to farm would be on the other side and not interested in providing charity to their enemies.

Agree that re-fighting the primary or holding a grudge because you are a Cruzbot and lost is silly and people need to let it go ( full disclosure I was first a Walker guy then a Cruz guy and thought the presence of !Jeb! in the primary did more to f*ck everything up in the republican primary process then it did anything else - I mean - people - this is supposed to be a "change election"!! Does another Bush seem like a "change" to you?!? - anyway - I digress)

As to forgetting a grudge - I have an Irish memory - the only thing I don't forget is a grudge. If Hitlary gets elected there will be no forgiveness for the GOPe or the #nevertrumpers - they are quislings and traitors who have sold their country down the river - and have tirelessly worked to elect one of the most corrupt personally disgusting and morally bankrupt authoritarian leftists whom this Republic has ever seen and thus: omnia delenda est.

Anyway - I am Irish Italian - and therefore have a bit of a temper and also never forget a vendetta. On the positive said I can sing like a bird, drink like a fish and cook you the meanest pasta sauce you have ever had. But . . . . forget what the #nevertrumpers are doing? Never, ever, never. They are dead to me.

Over the course of the average life time, the dollar will depreciate over 90%.

The year I was born, the average cost of a new home was $19,300. A gallon of milk cost $0.49, and a gallon of gasoline was only $0.30. The tuition to attend one year of classes at the University of Texas as a resident was only $100.00.

And that was when relatively sane people ran the country.

Tell me again the dollar will always be worth a dollar.

Suppose Trump loses the electoral college (and the popular vote) by a small margin. There is ample proof of organized efforts to get illegals to vote in a couple of battle ground states to put Hillary over the top, but there is no smoking gun that she coordinated it.

Trump contests the election. The SC says he doesn't have standing or some other crap. Obama and Lynch say "we looked and no fraud here guys, honest!"

plenty of food in the US and plenty of land to grow food on."

A considerable amount of "farming" in the USA is more akin to an open-air bulk industrial process than it is to bucolic traditional imaginings of farms.

Dependent upon regular massive inputs of irrigation water, electricity, diesel fuel, fertilizer, pesticides, herbicides, and specialized seed.

Productivity on those enormous agroindustrial "farms" will do an ugly face plant once those inputs begin to be interrupted.

Also: the left have traditionally moved when in full social control to displace actual farmers (those despised kulaks, don't you know) and replace them with "experts" from outside, overseeing conscripted ag labor. This works as well as you would imagine it to work.
