Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | War on Women? The Real War is on our Boys [Warden]It may not be a surprise to many of you that after decades of a leftist controlled public education system that regularly denigrates and shames boys for their masculinity, that boys are now lagging behind girls in school. Women now comprise 60% of college graduates and are trouncing boys across all measures of academic performance, save one--SAT scores where the boys beat the girls by a significant margin in math and slightly in reading. The response to this disparity, of course, is to label boy's superior SAT scores to, you guessed it, gender biased testing that favors boys. It cannot be the case that boys are better at something. Boys are never better at anything. Our schools are stuffed full of left-wing, female educators who largely despise boys and see their very nature as a problem to be corrected. They've beaten them down, broken their spirits and stuffed them full of Ritalin to shut them up. Is it news to you that 20% of 14 year old boys have been diagnosed with ADHD? It shouldn't be because it's a goddamned outrage. They've literally pathologized masculinity. I have two boys, aged 5 and 10 and I'm mad as hell about how this garbage culture treats them. But here's the thing--I can't change how others act toward me and my family. I can only control what we do. We need solutions--all of us who wish to raise our boys into strong, confident, masculine men rather than the limp and effete pajama-boys we're beginning to see dominate our culture. So what do we do? I have a few recommendations below the fold. Please add yours to the comments.First, grab yourself a copy of Wild at Heart. It's not a book about raising boys, per se, but all of it is dedicated to examining the true nature of masculinity from a Christian perspective. If that turns you off, then just think "nature" and "evolution" instead of God and you'll still find quite a bit of valuable reading here. Secondly, I think we need to actively and purposefully encourage masculinity in our boys. Men, particularly, should be aware that every single day they are modeling what it means to be a man to their sons--how you interact with your wife, your reaction to problems, your physical and mental toughness, your ability to problem solve, and your strength and courage in navigating life. I am, quite frankly, a radical reactionary when it comes to this feminized culture. I seek to neutralize its effects in my boys by emphasizing and encouraging masculinity in all walks of life. I think that exposing your boys to all of the things that the left hates is a good start--contact sports, martial arts, guns, working with your hands, fishing, woodworking, etc... I can't fill all these roles myself--for example, I'm not the most handy fix-it guy in the world, but I am able to fill in these gaps with other strong male role models like the boys' uncles, grandparents and in-laws. I also take the boys to stereotypically masculine events--car racing, monster trucks, regional pro wrestling, rodeos, football games, etc... If it's loud, dirty or dangerous to the participants, we're there. More importantly, though, I believe that men--fathers particularly--need to push back against the kind of helicopter parenting that so many mothers engage in. This means giving your boys, or even someone else's, the space to adventure, roughhouse, explore, and challenge themselves. It also means accepting a relatively higher level risk of injury. My wife is generally good with letting our boys be boys, but I do have to fight against her protective instincts at times. And this is okay. Parenting used to be a push-pull between husband and wife, finding the right balance between protectiveness and the freedom to explore, learn, test limits and sometimes get injured in doing so. Somewhere in the last 30 years or so, this balance shifted radically to the feminine side. We must shift back to a more healthy state of affairs. I'm not afraid to tell her to back off and let the boys go. It sometimes upsets her, but she also respects it and realizes that I understand them in ways that she doesn't. One of the ways I push back is by giving my kids a lot of room to roam. When we go to the supermarket, I let my 5 year old wander from site when I'm in a fixed location like waiting at the deli. He knows where everything is and where I'll be. He'll wander off, chat with the sample lady, check out the lobster tank and investigate any sales specials in the fruit bargain bin and return with what he discovered. I think it's good for him to explore and gain a sense of independence. It's always interesting to see how startled adults are when they see a kid this age walking alone. It's a mixture of concern and judgment. I don't care about what they think. This was normal when I was a child and things aren't anymore dangerous now than they used to be. The odds of a stranger snatching your kids are next to nil. I've weighed that tiny risk and found it to be acceptable for the simple reason that boys have an innate need to explore and conquer. Whether climbing trees, flailing at each other with stick swords, or tromping through an unknown creek, boys need to feel like adventuring heroes. They cannot do this while someone is constantly shielding them from risk. The risk is the point. Does all of this mean that I spend all my time yelling macho rah-rah slogans at my boys? Of course not. My older one is both thoughtful and sensitive and loves to do artwork. I recognize who God made him to be and also--and this is important--that these things do not negate his masculinity. He can paint a beautiful picture one day and go tearing around the neighborhood on his bike the next. That's who he is, that's what he does, and I'll be damned if I'll let anyone make him feel badly about it.Comments(Jump to bottom of comments)1

I give my boys time, room, and toys to be boys. I keep them outdoors as much as possible and support their sense of adventure. Of course this means my wife gets to point out that they've never needed emergency room visits when she's watching them...

I'm 21 and my dad had me read Wild at Heart. I have since passed it along to all my friends and college basketball teamates. Their is an undercurrent going on right now. It's a movement to bring back real men who raise and protect families. Their is something exceptional about this country and the fact that men in our country are rebelling against this instead of going the way of Europe and Japan is the proof.

I'm kind of going back and forth on that one. I treat my boys with love, give them 3 squares a day and try to make sure they get to bed on time, etc. They are going to be the people they will be. Such a good post. Kudos, man. Kudos.
I've been railing against this very thing for a decade now. Not because I hate girls. I have no kids of my own but I have a niece whom I adore and would end the sun if it made her smile. But I have watched what you describe happen systematically over the past two decades. We should never lift one group up at the expense of another. Women have been empowered for generations, yet we act like we are somehow just breaking through the clouds of oppression and one day soon, girls will be free! They act that way while Miley Cyrus grinds a panda bear half naked on stage at the VMAs. And it's a sad world where men are taught to be women. Why, a world like that would be easy to subdue, since men who don't know how to be men are less likely to fight on the way to a cage. Feminist teachers create emasculated boys. Men grow up pansies. Women look for men, because no one wants a pansy. Can't find one. Woman complain than men are pansies and shut ins who don't know how to do anything scary, like ask a girl out. Woman cheer for feminists because, go girl! Posted by: AlaBAMA at October 25, 2016 09:08 PM (pUDQf) Posted by: Methos at October 25, 2016 09:08 PM (3Liv/) 30

Just a WAG based on life experience and observation, but I don't think whatever we call this absurdly bubble-like control and "safety" for kids these days is linked to small family size.
This trend started before family size had shrunk. More telling, there was no significant loss rate for kids during the baby boom (economic development, medicine, and vaccines made the experience of prior eras a mere memory), yet families were large, and boys certainly were free and expected to be boys. I think it's something that snapped in the underlying culture. I know 30-something parents of young kids - the fathers grew up like I did, very free and active, yet now they slip easily/silently into this Huxleyesque prison camp model for kids. I think this is a symptom of the larger breakdown in the relationship between men and women in Western culture. The conflation of granting equal rights to women with the notion that men and women ARE equal has done real damage. Men and women are more different than the same and that's what makes our partnerships that understand that so powerful and productive. One of the major things we have in common though is our default perception of the other gender as a poor example of our own gender. In other words, men are perceived by women as not very good women, and vice versa. We really live in two overlapping realities - for men, reality is physical - for women it's more experiential. Men are their work (which is why it's important for men to have work), and women are their relationships. Of course these are generalizations but useful ones to not forget.

Wild at Heart has a huge problem, to me, with the idea of masculinity. He repeatedly mocks the idea of a father being someone who has a duty to make sure that the family is taken care of in his denigration of George Bailey from the movie It's A Wonderful Life. The author spends 2/3 of the book talking about fatherhood and manliness in terms of a cut rate Indiana Jones/Sons of Anarchy member.
While having fun is part of life and a needed thing for all of us, putting one's self in harms way for a thrill, "embracing the wild" I think he called it, is stupid when you have people depending on you to make sure they are clothed, fed and kept safe. That he uses rather dubious theology in the formulation of this, is a problem. Posted by: MrScience_ at October 25, 2016 09:25 PM (u4Vgg) 72

Boys are seen as defective girls in our schools. The American Psychiatric Association says that ADHD affects 5% of the population, but 15% to 20% of the kids are diagnosed as such. But nobody admits the obvious--a lot of misdiagnoses. We see each day the affects of leftist ideology every day. I'm raising a couple of nephews and a niece, so I've been thrust back into the morass. So much of our lives are now controlled by ideas that have been disproven for decades. But those failed concepts become policies and bureaucrats come and go and never question the status quo.

The response to this disparity, of course, is to label boy's superior SAT scores to, you guessed it, gender biased testing that favors boys.
It cannot be the case that boys are better at something. Boys are never better at anything. To zeroth order, the prime directive for women is to bear and raise children. That for men is to protect and provide for same. Had to tell the teachers that she was not allowed to do the bullshit "lattice" long division and all the other stupid tricks they were using. 3 years later she when they had basically abandoned the program she was the onlly student who could "do math the old fashioned way" She struggles with math and this program was a disaster. I edit academic books for a living and try to avoid the sociology sewage. They're now openly bragging about their "Marxist analysis," with the self-righteous tones of those who Know the All. They're irredeemably hostile to America, not because of our alleged (mostly slander, btw) sins, but Because we're free, Because we're wealthy, Because we are good -- that last one really chaps their asses, because America, the leader of the Free World (hey, when did you last hear THAT phrase? think about it) is the chief obstacle to their insane goal of quite literally ruling the damn world. And yes, the de-balling is not only deliberate, they Know What They Are Doing, and Why. Among themselves, they speak of this openly. The crap I have to edit at times is basically these sods writing for each other, not for undergrads, where they still have a bit of a fig leaf over their true motives. Man, they really are what Whittaker Chambers warned us about -- they've succumbed to the oldest temptation of all: "Ye shall be as gods." /shudder Posted by: Beverly at October 25, 2016 09:55 PM (6xK61) 178

Let me just state some qualifications here, namely that I have advanced degrees in a technical field and a more than passing experience with mathematics. I tried (and succeeded) in helping my granddaughter with some math home work, and cam away with the conclusion that the current approved math approach to basics is total BS. I was able to show her the school solution, but it was totally devoid of any rationale as to how the mechanics of the problem worked, did not help her in a day to day application, and basically became a turn the rote and complicated mechanical crank to get an answer. Worse, I came away feeling that if the basic old school approach had been taught first, then the "new" school method could have been introduced as an alternative way to look at things and potentially very useful in formulating estimated values for similar problems. People with degrees in Education teaching math are an abomination! Posted by: Hrothgar at October 25, 2016 09:55 PM (wCEn4) 179

84--"I have a theory: I think the purpose is to discourage parents from
participating in the education of their children. You can't help your kids with schoolwork if you don't understand what the heck they are doing. When I was growing up, it was set theory. With kids in our local school system, it's lattice multiplication and some weird division algorithm. All these things are inscrutable to parents, so the school becomes the expert and parents are sidelined." You're so very close, Emmie. The true purpose of common-core is to abort or destroy the students' sense of earned self-confidence. When a student can never be sure if his answer (or, so help me, his "estimate") is correct, then he cannot build confidence in his own abilities. Who then becomes the source of approval and self-esteem? Why, the one who decrees which answers are correct: the teacher. If PARENTS were able to handily and consistently bat back 100% scores on these assignments, then the kids wd willy-nilly IDOLIZE THEIR OWN OLD-SCHOOL PARENTS, not the educationists. Hence the absurd subjective fake "correct" answers, to demoralize us accomplished adults as well as our little future Comrade-Drones. Most teachers have gone through NEA approved college training courses that teach them nothing about subjects, but everything you need to know to indoctrinate the "children" in the current prog memes. Because it's for them, doncha know? I taught overseas, with a number of ladies who were accountants, chemists and IT programmers. The small, British school didn't have any "certified" teachers, but those kids were learning stuff, and learning it well. I taught second grade, and had three girls that I started on algebra problems, and they were doing well. I had one little boy, with actual ADHD, and we would go outside and do math and grammar with jody chants, so he could burn off energy and learn something. The year before, his "certified" teacher was forcing him to defecate in his pants because she didn't want him to get up and go to the bathroom, and disrupt her class. Textbooks nowadays are a joke. They're multi-color "socially relevant" pablum interspersed with the odd substantive treatment.
My son's algebra textbook - again, multi-colored (or should I say, a "textbook of multi-color?") had marginal entries about the first black female astronaut to take a shit in space, and things of that ilk. That is relevant to algebra ...how? Then his chemistry textbook was ridiculous the other way. Page N talked about atoms. Page N+1 talked about glycosylation of proteins. WTF? Were there about 1000 pages of material and several years missing between those pages? They hadn't even mentioned pH yet. I brought this up to my son's teacher, who said that they hadn't covered pH because they hadn't covered the mole concept yet. I was astonished; they hadn't covered the mole concept, but they were talking about glycosylation??? Methinks the authors were losers washed out of grad school who were trying to convince others - and themselves - that they really were up to it intellectually, and to prove it, they were going to blow away some poor kids. A few years ago our Scout troop was out camping for the weekend at a nearby state park. The program was "patrol activities", which meant that Scouts in each of three patrols had decided what they were doing on Saturday. So, after breakfast, they prepped and left the campsite. Two mothers were there and witnessed this. Questioned followed... "Where are they going?" "Somewhere in the park." "Where?" "Dunno exactly, but they have park maps." "Why did no adults go with them?" "They are a patrol; they look out for one another." "What is one of them gets hurt?" "They are a patrol; they know how to treat injuries." "What if the injury is major?" "They are a patrol; each one has at least one phone with them and they know our phone numbers." "What if they leave the park?" "Again, they have maps, which we reviewed last night and they know they are not to cross any of the major roads that surround this park." "How come they didn't pack lunches?" "Their plans are to grill their lunches at * this * site starting at noon. We will transport their foodstuffs and charcoal to there, as well as our own, and join them for lunch." "Do you allow them to do this all the time?" "They are Boy Scouts, this is what they are taught to do and this is what they love to do." "Oh." Winters became a battle of who could get out to the thermostat the most often and occasionally we'd meet up, usually with her girlfriend in tow. Visibly angry, she would frown and comment about how I felt I "owned" the place. Went on all winter. Nasty woman. When I moved out at the end of the term, I slit open a package of whole whitefish and slid it into the filter/air intake down in the basement.

Just last year, a family was being threatened with jail, and their kids being sent to foster care, because they were "free-range" parents. They let their kids walk a block to the playground by themselves, or walk a few blocks to a bodego to buy milk or an ice cream. The hue and cry was fierce in the DC area, saying these parents were neglectful and harming their kids. The choice isn't necessarily being a helicopter parent or a realistic one, sometimes it's literally keeping the state from taking your children from you by force. If the ER thinks your kids come in with too many injuries, they are calling CPS. Because nanny state. Naturally, when a child truly needs intervention, nothing is done. About 15 years ago I worked at the National Science Foundation in the Education and Human Resources Directorate for Dr. Judith Ramaley. Ramaley's directorate was responsible for education outreach, including promoting math and science in elementary and secondary schools. Ramaley's directorate would publish a annual of programs and activities focused at promoting "girls in science." It listed tens of millions of dollars spent toward this end. It was two inches thick. You know how thick the annual was for efforts targeted at boys? Nil; it didn't exist because not one dime was spent two encouraging boys. They used to openly joke there that it was the foundation's "dirty little secret." It made me sick to work there. I'm glad I fled there. Don't even get me started on how they give hundreds of millions of taxpayers' dollars away to foreigners for their advanced educations.

If you kids are at all inclined toward it, encourage them to get into racing at a young age.
Auto racing has it all. The physical danger teaches them to face fear and work through the adrenaline. The construction, maintenance, and repair of the car (and boy howdy will there ever maintenance and repair) teaches them how to work with their hands and fixing a wrecked car between the heat races and feature to make the show teaches them how to problem solve in real time while under pressure. The actual on track competition will teach them to learn from their mistakes in real time, and hone their ability to channel aggression effectively, and to know when to be aggressive (fangs in/fangs out). The racecraft and strategy they learn on-track will also carry over into other parts of their lives. Learning to look far ahead of what's happening right now and see what's likely to be coming is a skill that can be easily repurposed from the racetrack to the rest of life. They'll learn to stay "in the moment" but also to look as far ahead as possible and prepare for what's likely coming. I started racing when I was 16, and honestly, once you've been sideways on three wheels at 120 MPH on a dirt racing surface (or upside down, or into a concrete wall or another car at 80mph), NOTHING else is really all that exciting or scary anymore. Do not underestimate the value of being able to easily handle every day adrenaline dumps like it's nothing at all (because to them, it IS nothing at all, certainly nothing compared to the sustained half hour long extreme exposure to main line adrenaline that comes from being in a race car for a full feature race. Do that once a week, 26 weeks a year, for a couple of years, and suddenly everything else just isn't that scary or jarring anymore. It IS expensive, but probably less so than trying to expose a kid to all those things one at a time, or sending them to private school, or paying for therapy for years to try and un-do all the shit that gets done to them at school. Racing will totally overshadow anything else that comes up in their lives, school, girls, jobs, whatever. Everything else will fade into the background, which is where most of that stuff belongs anyway. Racing cars is probably the best thing that ever happened to me, honestly. Just be prepared, it can and will swallow the whole family (and they'll probably enjoy it when it happens lol), and all your free time. in 1856 Wellington said 'the battle of Waterloo was won on the playing fields of Eton.'
A lot of this post is absolutely true and crucial - but as I get older I have learned, more and more, that the physical strength and mental toughness and grit and work ethic and integrity were ingrained early by my folks and regularly by Scripture... they are natural masculine virtues that i enjoy observing. But these days for me the true test of mettle is kindness, grace, patience, and using creativity to elevate others above myself. As a young boy, to learn that punching the bully is the righteous use of might - that is an old standard... but for a parent to take a scalpel to the onion and demonstrate that in that violence is kindness and self-sacrifice.... that is crucial. men have far more opportunities to run roughshod over the women, children, progressive betas who never knew any better and maybe had NPR fathers or no fathers at all, and sensitive flowers in our lives... and kindness applied rigorously requires no small measure of focus, strength and self control. this line of parenting also gives you the opportunity to be the first place where your child hears the well-worn "grace is courage under pressure" or whatever that sop of a man-boy's old quote was. But hey - it's his year - his Old Man mentioned explicitly that he feared "the Indians of Cleveland." if they are older boys, turning them onto that KGB wannabe (code-named Argo if memory serves) informant pinko child-of-a-man's writing would be an excellent double-bird.. masculinity in literature to fire your young man into a reader, and then deconstructing the Hemingway worship and teaching your son that to go through life drunk and not in control of your pants is folly. Ephesians 4:32 is my Petzl for remembering kindness, because it ties the duty of kindness to the iron spikes nailing me to the cross with my Christ... 32 And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you. He climbs everything and is a complete monkey and is good at it too, so I let him. And starting to do pull ups and such. When him and my husband/his father are out at our farm husband lets him run around anywhere he wants to. Except when he needs him to hand him a wrench or something. He's been spray painting his "swords" and has been trying to cut through an old telephone pole with an old blunt hatchet for months now. I do a bad job at letting him go out and play by himself when we are in town. Uncle took him exploring out in the creek for hours one day and oh my, he loved it. In this discussion it is useful to distinguish between manliness and manhood. The former is the form of masculinity. The latter is the substance.
We should teach our boys the attributes of both because manliness provides the best tools for manhood, but anything short of that, teaching manhood must take precedence. Why? Manhood comes down to three principles every boy must learn to live by. First, only speak the truth. Second, protect the weak and vulnerable. Third, honor your commitments. Manhood sans manliness means a boy who will do the right thing, but without the best tools for doing so. Manliness sans manhood means a boy who will become a predator. Therefore, manhood civilizes the manliness innate in boys. Although the ruthless feminization of our culture deprives our boys lessons in both manhood and manliness, their manliness will still burst out all too often in destructive ways in the absence of disciplining manhood. So it isn't a generation of pajama boys that will overwhelm us if this campaign of feminization continues. It will be a generation of predators. The typical male Hillary voter (note i didn't say supporter, i'll get to that) doesn't like guns, doesn't like war, would rather drive a Prirus than a Challenger or a pickup truck, avoids masculine lines of work meant to support wives and kids, and thinks if he has totally normal sexual relations with a woman and both parties are satisfied, he must have raped her. I blame low testosterone. However, that guy is white. A black male who supports Hillary (Tyrone refuses to/can't vote) likes guns, big cars, raping women (or at least rapping about it), and loots when he can't get what he wants. Tryone also thinks the only white male he'll ever run into is Pajama Boy and he's an easy mark. Tyrone will find out he is wrong when he meets me. TBH, i'd like to avoid manual labor myself, which is why i carry a pistol and plan on shooting Tyrone rather than having a fist fight.

In the Army, 33 years ago, now, I was taught a lesson. I wanted to be a pound my chest tough girl. Basically, I was handed my ass because I tried to open a door. The Colonel, a southern gentleman, stopped after I saluted. He addressed me and said, "Young lady, I see you everyday. And everyday, at least once, you see me. It is *I* who will open the door when you are in my presence. You are the lady, and this is my job. Try to remember that." And I did. It gave me great perspective about boys being boys--and later, men being themselves. I tried to teach my boys not to beat the shit out of each other, and to never lay a hand on their sisters, no matter what. Beyond that, I let them do what came naturally and so far, I am not disappointed. I have never read " Wild At Heart" but I promise to give both my boys and my girls a copy, with this blog printed out and tucked inside. We, as a country need to get back to basics and letting our sexes be whom they were meant to be. Everything seems so fucked up if we're thinking like the progressives, who don't believe in anything that matters, at least...in my world.

I agree with all the above, but I think there's something left out. Nowadays, the counterarguments to the feminizers seem always to look at the physical exemplars of masculinity; again, that's fine as far as it goes, but it's incomplete.
The other side is the intellectual aggressiveness. The feminoids know this well, and years ago started on keeping boys from dominating classroom discussions. I recall explaining to a college girlfriend why, whenever a bunch of us got together, the guys ended up arguing about something. Sure, they could keep us from using fists or dueling pistols, but we're still going to fight, even if the blows are only verbal. (Note: she was not a feminist, and partly liked this about us, but was sometimes taken aback.) I wish I could remember the title, but there's a fun G K Chesterton essay on exactly this, and on why men can't be friends with women the way they are with other men. Good points! I spent last night with 7 rowdy cub scouts (9 and 10 years old). I was exhausted! But a wise scout leader reminded me that boys have lots of energy and short attention spans. "Squirrel!" anyone!
But it was also fun seeing them work on their physical and social skills. It was a good lesson in humility. I raised both boys and girls, and regardless of what is pc, boys and girls are different in talents and abilities, and those differences should be allowed and celebrated, not squashed into conformity. It makes me sad to see boys bullied and not allowed to be who they are. BTW: next week I'll be more patient and work with them on THEIR level instead of trying to get them to work on mine!. Give them some tools and encourage them to take things apart...and put them back together. When they get older teach them to--use a saw, build a box, paint a wall, change the oil in the truck, fix a flat on your bike, change a tire, solder copper pipes, use a level, read a blueprint, fix a sprinkler, did a hole, repair a lamp, wire a light switch, repair a hose, pitch a tent, start a fire, cook, feed the dog, respect and properly use firearms, cast a dry fly, handle a shotgun, skin a pheasant...and the list is endless. If you don't do it no one will. I did all these and more for my daughter and now I'm doing the same for her husband because his father did not.

Very well said. One thing I think is good for my 11-year-old son is that when I give him a task -- in the backyard, garage, whatever it is and wherever -- I let him know what the end result needs to be. And then it's up to him to decide how to get there. As long as the job gets done and done well, it's none of my business really what tools, techniques, route or approach he employs. He was a little bit befuddled and even scared the first few times I did this a couple of years ago -- I think he had to unlearn the way one behaves and performs when being micromanaged by teachers and some other adults.

Manhood comes down to three principles every boy must learn to live by. First, only speak the truth. Second, protect the weak and vulnerable. Third, honor your commitments.

I want to echo a very tangible thing that can be done to turn boys into a proper man. Put them in Scouts. While not perfect, it is the only youth organization out there teaching a code of honor, self reliance, leadership, etc. The outdoors has always been a good teacher. BSA knows that and still puts on a very good program. I was a Scout as a boy (70's) and when I got back involved with my son, I found it was mostly the same organization. That pleased me because what it teaches is timeless. On top of that, they have a lot of fun and adventure, rather than just pretending to by using their thumbs in front of a screen

Know this: just as a tired puppy is a good puppy, so too a tired boy is a good boy. Keep 'em active, keep 'em moving. At the end of the day, you should have to carry them to bed, because they're too tired to get there on their own. An exhausted child has no time for mischief.

I remember being at the range by the woods and my boy wanted to take the .357 snub and hunt a little by himself. At 8 years old he knew all the safety rules was as responsible as anyone. His mother had qualms. Within less than and hour he was back without firing a shot wanting to get on the range to shoot safely. He had demonstrated safety and good judgment even to his mothers satisfaction and I have trusted him ever since with a gun.
(Today he is a Captain in the Marines and a much better shot.) Posted by: 72 Virgins at October 26, 2016 04:55 PM (AB3kT) 265
Has been since the 1970's. Female teachers have always hated boys, while giving preferential treatment to girls.

I have not read all the comments and I am late to the party, but there is one thing that bothers me when measuring test scores and other metrics concerning gender. Most boys are still growing between 15 through 18, when most girls have slowed our even stopped during high school years. The body to grow requires sleep and it will shut down to perform that function. Thus, a boy will require more sleep during growth spurts than girls will during the high school years, this affects their education specifically with rote memorization...while some may not be affected too much, others will to the point that it will effect grades. Just my observation has a parent.
