Democrat Kathleen Kane Sentenced to 10 to 23 Months In Jail for Perjury and Conspiracy and Seven Other Charges

As Ashe Schow points out, The Daily Beast "forgets" to note her political party in this brief.

Given how short it is, you'd think they'd want to at least add one additional word.

But nope!

Instead of jail time, the former top attorney sought either probation or house arrest instead of jail time. During her sentencing hearing, Kane reportedly said, "I don't care what happens to me," but pleaded with the judge to have "mercy" on her two sons, whom she said a jail sentence would affect the hardest.

71 Only reason I know "Killer" Kane's name is the 1930's (?) Buck Rogers serial, which IMO is most notable for starring Flash Gordon (okay, Buster Crabbe) as Rogers.

It'd be like casting Ben Affleck, fresh off a Bourne movie as the new Bond.

Or Ben Affleck, fresh after playing Batman, as... Okay, I tried to think of someone else not named Affleck, but anyway. You get my point.

Naw man, I was there. It wasn't like that. Not that there's anything wrong with it.

According to a 2006 interview with Entertainment Weekly, the Rikki of the title is Rikki Ducornet, a New York writer and artist. Steely Dan co-front Donald Fagen had met her while both were attending Bard College, a small liberal arts college located in Annandale-on-Hudson, New York. Ducornet says they met at a college party, and even though she was both pregnant and married at the time, he gave her his number, although not in the same context as the song. Ducornet was intrigued by Fagen and tempted to call him, but she decided against it. A complete write-up of this incident is at ew.com, and it kind of sounds like it came straight out of a Doonesbury strip.

In the March 24, 2006 issue of Entertainment Weekly, in an article titled "Back to Annandale", it was revealed that Rikki Ducornet was the apparent inspiration for the song due to her friendship with songwriter Donald Fagen while he attended Bard College. Ducornet was pregnant and married at the time, but recalled that Fagen did give her his phone number at a college party at Bard and said that she believed she was the subject of the song.

146 "Becker for sure was gay. "Rikki Don't Lose That Number" is about a gay affair. And "Kid Charlemagne" was about a heroin dealer in the Tenderloin.
Their music was polished and jazzy but their lyrics were about shady people."

Fagen and Becker were both into crazy literature and sometimes juvenile inside jokes. Hence "Steely Dan," a reference to a dildo in an obscure novel.

Neither is gay. Becker's wife OD'd when they both had bad drug issues (see "Doctor Wu" and "Time out of mind") Fagen has been married for a long time to Libby Titus, who was once married to Levon Helm.

Many of their lyrics are about shady people, especially those on Royal Scam. But they cover more. They're better than Dylan's, IMHO.

Kid Charlemagne is about Owsley Stanley who made a big contribution to counter-culture by single handedly making more LSD in the 60s than anyone else. He also bankrolled the early Grateful Dead, and even designed their skull symbol.

"Rikki Don't Lose That Number" is about Fagen's sophomore crush on the wife of a young professor at college. He made an awkward pass at her, which she rejected in horror. Listen to the lyrics with that in mind and it's hysterical, because young Donald is so oblivious.

Steely Dan is at the Beacon in NYC mid-way through a 10 night run. The band is the best you'll ever hear, with the likes of Cindy Mozelle as one of the Danettes, and Keith Carlock on drums.

Heavy smokers form wrinkle lines around the mouth bc of the repeated action of sucking in smoke and the smoke making contact with the skin and aging it prematurely. Wrinkle lines can also form around the mouth from perpetual frowny face.

312 OK, since open thread sort of with entertainment flavorings, this.

Watching a pretty decent German documentary on the Battle of Berlin on UTube. So at some point a commercial breaks in (usually wait min. time then "skip", not this time).

Ad for upcoming movie on trial of American academic for slander against David Irving, Brit Holocaust denier. Would have skipped as always, but .... Rachel Weisz (sp?). So.

I actually hung in to watch the whole ad/trailer whatever it is. One scene from the movie, heroine says (paraphrasing) "facts are facts, the Holocaust happened, *THE POLAR ICE CAPS ARE MELTING*, and Elvis is not alive". (emphasis mine)

Don't recall exactly when Irving trial was. Can't therefore recall whether 1) global cooling or alternatively 2) global warming was the idiotic unscientific cult obsession du jour. Because one followed quickly on the other.

But there you have it. Applying common sense, actual facts (such as geologic record), and actual scientific reasoning to a topic is ..... like "denying the Holocaust."

Yet some might wonder why I haven't seen 5 new movies in 10 years.

L, Elle, I've been asking the same thing on and off for about a week. I haven't seen any updates at all. I know Country Boy said he emailed him a while back, but hadn't heard.

If anyone else has his email, could you please email him and let him know we are thinking of him? It's very worrisome. He's not married, correct? I'm hoping he has someone to take care of him.

396 "Basically she said his speech wasn't anything new[i/] and just Republican talking points. And those points were overshadowed by comment regarding suing female accusers."

And this from supposedly friendly Fox.

His speech was 40 minutes on term limits, federal hiring freezes, severe limits on revolving door lobbying, cutting existing regulations 2 for 1 with anything new, declaring China a currency manipulator, cancelling climate change payments to the UN, ending TPP, renegotiate NAFTA, cancel federal funding of sanctuary cities, cancel Obama's executive orders, deport 2 million criminal Illegals for starters .... It goes on and on.

But nothing to see here. Just the same old GOPe talking points.

Yeah, if only things like ending the lawlessness of "sanctuary" cities was nothing more than a talking point. If stopping this idiotic "climate" nonsense/shake-down were a tired and empty campaign theme. If only reducing ruinous regulation were a cheap rhetorical flourish.

Instead, in the real world, the phrasing would be "if only the 'opposition' party had made even a head-fake at doing anything about ANY of these pernicious and intolerable situations".

422 "And so many seem to forget, or not understand, that some of the most important changes are, in fact, entirely a matter of executive discretion, and can be accomplished via EOs (or cancellation of same)."

Agreed. There's a lot Trump can do without Congress. He can also force a lot of reform on Congress by saying he'll veto any spending bill that is omnibus and not properly but through a granular budgeting process.

Hillary might not even get her first choice SCOTUS pick if the R Senate grows a pair. If Ryan supports her on Amnesty he should lose the Speaker's chair. What else can she pass?

Posted by: Ignoramus at October 24, 2016 06:12 PM (r1fLd)

Yeah, I can't wait for that discussion with libs. He (rightfully) writes an EO to cancel an overreaching EO and we'll hear "I thought you didn't believe in EOs!???!"

People will have to prepare themselves to stand fast to a fresh barrage of cargo-cult Alinskyan "hypocrite" calls, and answer that overreaching EOs can be--and should be--rescinded by EOs.

Posted by: Axeman at October 24, 2016 06:27 PM (2mC6G)

425 "He'll do some dog and pony stuff and then vote for her Scotus, Amnesty, et al."

In the House, he doesn't vote on SCOTUS. If he supports Amnesty he'll either lose his Chair, or have at least half the R voters leave the Party.

McConnell can't let a Hillary nominee through that has been litmus-tested to overturn Citizens United (and Heller). It would be a serious separation of powers issue, as well as being bad on the merits.
