People who say Twitter or Facebook are what drive eyeballs succeed only in missing the point. If those sites drove passive interest to win, Kony 2016 would have been a groundbreaking moment instead of laughable. If you are on there sharing and connecting, that does more than any Facebook ad could. Not saying that we won't have to crush their leaders down the line, or that Twitter should not be abandoned for its egregious posture , but they are great gateway tools to Gab, etc.

I shall now tell a story. It does not reflect well on my judgment.
I worked for Dragon in 95/96. I wasn't a permanent employee, but I had a series of three month contracts to do linguistic QA that kept me busy. Once there was no QA to do and they asked if I'd like to do tech support for three months.

So that was kind of fun and I learned more about the way things work. It's sort of like plumbing, if the stuff isn't coming out here you go upstream to see if it got through there.
This is before the Windows media layer. You needed a special sound card and it had pin settings, but the most common problem with the system was handling ambient noise. You could train it to your voice and cadence pretty well but stray noises just messed it up.
Oh, I should tell you that we had two types of users. Dilettantes and early adopters who wanted to show off that they could make their computer type just by talking about it, and quadriplegics and invalids who used it to control their environments.
So one day I get a tech call and I hear in the background "whoosh ka ka ka ka, whooosh kakakaka, whooosh..."
And being all cocky and immediately knowing what the problem was I said "first thing you have to do is turn off the photocopier".
And the woman said, "that's my iron lung".
Yeah, I have social skills.

About 26 years ago I went to DCA to meet my husband after he had been gone 3 weeks at trial. I was wearing stockings, stillettos, a black lace teddy, and a raincoat. Dan Quayle got off the plane and he's VERY handsome in person. In fact, I noticed how handsome he was before I realized it was Dan Quayle. For about 1 millisecond, I thought about flashing him, but did not, of course.
