Podesta Emails: Excuses for Not Releasing Emails, Conspiracies to Get Republicans to Release Their Emails, Calling Conservative Catholicism a "Bastardization" of the Faith

Ken Auletta's latest piece on Murdoch in the New Yorker starts off with the aside that both Murdoch and Robert Thompson, managing editor of the WSJ, are raising their kids Catholic. Friggin' Murdoch baptized his kids in Jordan where John the Baptist baptized Jesus. Many of the most powerful elements of the conservative movement are all Catholic (many converts) from the SC and think tanks to the media and social groups. It's an amazing bastardization of the faith. They must be attracted to the systematic thought and severely backwards gender relations and must be totally unaware of Christian democracy.
Clinton told an audience at a luncheon for the Jewish United Fund Of Metropolitan Chicago Vanguard in Oct. 2013 that the flow of Syrian refugees into Jordan had put that country's security at risk. "There's a discussion going on now across the region to try to see where there might be common ground to deal with the threat posed by extremism," Clinton said, according to paid speech transcripts included among Podesta's emails. "And particularly with Syria which has everyone quite worried, Jordan because it's on their border and they have hundreds of thousands of refugees and they can't possibly vet all those refugees so they don't know if, you know, jihadists are coming in along with legitimate refugees," she said. Clinton has called on the U.S. to accept 65,000 Syrian refugees, a dramatic increase from President Obama's proposal of 10,000.If you haven't seen Republican Debate Moderator, the fair and balanced New York Times reporter John Harwood, fawning over Hillary and bragging to that campaign about how he tripped up her would-be Republican opponents on her behalf, do check that out.
n a December 2015 email to Podesta, Harwood bragged about his much-criticized debate performance in which he asked Trump “Let’s be honest, is this a comic book version of a presidential campaign?” Harwood titled the email "I imagine…' and continued the sentence in the body of the email, writing, '...that Obama feels some (sad) vindication at this demonstration of his years-long point about the opposition party veering off the rails.' "I certainly am feeling that way with respect to how I questioned Trump at our debate," Harwood continued.That is, he feels the same "vindication" Obama does at "this demonstration" that the GOP is "veering off the rails."

In May of 2015, early on in the Republican primary process, Harwood sent Podesta an email telling him to "watch out' for Dr. Ben Carson. The subject line of that email read, 'Watch out." "Ben Carson could give you real trouble in a general," Harwood warned.
Shortly after the Clinton email controversy first broke, Harwood sent an email to Podesta and another Clinton staffer with the subject line "FYI." In it was the text of a tweet that he had sent downplaying the scandal.Here's the email he sent to her to let her know he was on Team Hillz:

My understanding is most Catholics are blue-collar and have tended to be (and vote for) Democrats. Considering the Church's teachings on pro-life, this always baffled me, but hey. I can look around the parish I attend and I see this proven out.
With the current pope taking the Church in a hard left turn, is it fair to say that the undermining has been underway for a long time? Considering the silence of many (most) bishops on current issues I think it has. One only has to look at how quick they got into bed with democrats with the Obamacare. And they were satisfied with Obama's word regarding birth control. The fable of the scorpion and the frog come to mind. And I haven't forgotten (and struggle to forgive) the US Council of Catholic Bishops for this.
Is HRC's campaign threatened with the Catholic Church? Why? Because of the hierarchical nature of the Church? Because there is an authoritarian figure (Pope) leading it?

This goes far beyond bias, in what we always saw as sugarcoating and/or suppressing Hillary's weaknesses.
No. They are giving her editorial control of the final product. They are giving her questions in advance. They are leaking other items to her, such as articles on opponents and upcoming debate questions. There acting as campaign consultants by making suggestions on ads, lines of attack on opponents, intentionally attempting 'gotchas' on opponents, etc..
This is way, way beyond simply bias.

Why? Because the brain has a preference for "simple" things.
Heck even I don't have the time, energy or interest to fully immerse myself in all of Hillary's vast cesspool of corruption and evil. Even I have to just summarize it in my mind as the three words, "Hillary is crooked."
Can the average voter do that same? Sadly, I doubt it.

Yep. I think the best argument FOR Trump is not just that he's not a Washington insider, but that he has articulated a rational, America First philosophy that gets to the heart of so much that is wrong with our current way of doing things.

I think it's odd that the left would view the Catholic Church as conservative. I have always considered the church to be essentially left wing. True, the are anti-abortion. But, they are also against the death penalty. They are even against contraception, not a position of many on either the right or the left. They are in favor of promoting life, in all policies, seems to be their outlook.
But, economically, they are in favor of governments doing more, always more, to help the poor, the disadvantaged, etc. That means tax dollars and regulation. That's left wing ideology. That is distinct from their own efforts, which are many, to help people. I am not speaking of church charity, but rather what they advocate for as governmental policy.
The Catholic Church is also a very hierarchical organization, the most hierarchic religion in the world, in my opinion. All of the local churches answer ultimately to Rome. All of the church properties are under the control of the Vatican. All church doctrine is decided by the Vatican.
They are the opposite of the philosophy of federalism. They do not have a multitude of local churches or even archdioceses trying different things based on what works for them and their local flocks. You never hear of a local Catholic church breaking away from the main organization to go their own way. Of course, people can leave, even the ministers can leave, but the properties stay under the control of the Catholic Church. Regrdless of who comes and goes, that local church will continue to be in alignment with the dictates of the Vatican.
I am not saying this to criticize the Catholics. They have every right to run their religion in the way that they see fit. But, I really have to wonder at anyone who looks at a Catholic and thinks to themselves, there is a member of a right wing organization.

Second, in the last half of the 20th Century, the started pushing this lie about being unbiased and objective simply reporting the facts. It wasn't until sometime in the 300s at one of those "Council of Nicea"-type deals where all the vast variety of early Christian sects and beliefs were regularized into a universal "catholic" (in is original meaning -- "applicable to everyone") church. Prior to that, Christianity was like the Wild West, with literally hundreds of competing variants and philosophies, and no one could agree which was the "official" version.

You are wrong if you think there is no overlap between religion and politics. Churches frequently take positions on political issues, based on what they believe is moral. Nothing wrong with that. If a church believes abortion is murder, why shouldn't they advocate for laws that reflect that morality? And, there are plenty of times where the law (politics) affects religious organizations. Tax codes, insurance mandates, etc.
Anyway, the point of my comment was not about Catholic church goers. They do not decide church policy. The Catholics do not elect their leadership, and have no input when it comes to Vatican policy. I was speaking about the structure and political outlook of church leadership, the Vatican.

I agree that members of a church can leave the church. But, we sometimes read about other churches, where the local membership decides to break away from the larger organization. And, since in many cases, the local church is owned by the local congregation, they can retain the property. The church itself can switch. That does not happen, ever, with the Catholics. Their churches are not owned locally and so that church will always be a Catholic church. The only way it will ever stop being a Catholic church is if the hierarchy decides to close it down.
I know that the Catholic church does not demand that its members hold all the same views as the Vatican, so I know there are plenty of Catholics that are pro abortion or pro death penalty. But, the Vatican decides official church policy.
I didn't know that the Vatican accepted the death penalty in some cases. I had thought that they were always against it.

These career politicians all get to D.C. and live off the government teat salary, enriching themselves at Georgetown cocktails parties...to go on to K Street as lobbyists and increase their accumulated wealth (see: Trent Lott, Boehner, Cantor and others. They all speak the same language: rub my back and I'll rub yours. Line my pocket and I'll direct contracts to the feds. Pay to play on a smaller scale than the Clinton Foundation.
I am ready to clean this bunch out of town. Are you?

They are against it in most cases because they hold open the hope of redemption for the criminal. However they also recognize that there are some who refuse redemption, and constitute such a threat to society, that society has no choice in defending itself.

Sounds like they continue to support the death penalty in theory, but in practice, believe that it is no longer moral. That is, in practice, there is always a way to avoid using it.
