Podesta Emails: Excuses for Not Releasing Emails, Conspiracies to Get Republicans to Release Their Emails, Calling Conservative Catholicism a "Bastardization" of the Faith

Here Hillary co-conspirator Philip Reines games out "excuses" (his word) for not releasing emails under subpoena:

Here Team Hillary searches in vain for an "HRC warrior" in Congress willing to demand that Trey Gowdy release his own emails. But they can't find one to do it: Because those Congressmen fear that they'll be asked to release their own partisan-conspiracy emails in turn.

"The challenge is getting a member of congress to do it ... because they think they will be called upon to make the same disclosure," campaign adviser Jim Margolis wrote to Mook and Podesta.

"I pointed out that they don't believe private emails should be made public, so there is no hypocrisy," he added. "But there is nervousness just the same."

You know how Democrats are always claiming that Islamic Terrorism isn't Islamic, but is a twisted bastardization of a great religion?

Well, they think the same thing about Catholicism that holds to old teachings about traditional gender roles.

The Wikileaks hack of the e-mail system of Hillary Clinton campaign manager John Podesta has produced plenty of strange moments, but perhaps none stranger than a 2011 discussion of Catholicism in which Podesta himself played no part. The brief exchange between Jennifer Palmieri, now Hillary’s comms director but at the time working at the Center for American Progress, and CAP fellow John Halpin sounds so bitter and offers such silly arguments about Catholicism that it looks fake. If legit, these hacked e-mails provide a rather disturbing look into the minds of Hillary’s brain trust when it comes to Catholics, especially conservative Catholics.

...

The subject line is “Conservative Catholicism,” but the antagonism goes broader than that:

Ken Auletta's latest piece on Murdoch in the New Yorker starts off with the aside that both Murdoch and Robert Thompson, managing editor of the WSJ, are raising their kids Catholic. Friggin' Murdoch baptized his kids in Jordan where John the Baptist baptized Jesus.

Many of the most powerful elements of the conservative movement are all Catholic (many converts) from the SC and think tanks to the media and social groups.

It's an amazing bastardization of the faith. They must be attracted to the systematic thought and severely backwards gender relations and must be totally unaware of Christian democracy.

Note that this doesn't allege that conservative Catholics have "severely backwards gender relations," but that conservatives get drawn to Catholicism because of this supposed feature.

Sarah Westwood earlier posted the top 14 (as of the date of publication) revelations in the Podesta hack.

Here's Number One: Clinton admitted in one of those secret speeches that Jordan can't possibly screen all those Syrian refugees to keep out terrorists, and that surely terrorists will flow into Jordan.

But the US, she maintains, is somehow better at screening people against data files that do not exist and mostly have never existed.

Clinton told an audience at a luncheon for the Jewish United Fund Of Metropolitan Chicago Vanguard in Oct. 2013 that the flow of Syrian refugees into Jordan had put that country's security at risk.

"There's a discussion going on now across the region to try to see where there might be common ground to deal with the threat posed by extremism," Clinton said, according to paid speech transcripts included among Podesta's emails.

"And particularly with Syria which has everyone quite worried, Jordan because it's on their border and they have hundreds of thousands of refugees and they can't possibly vet all those refugees so they don't know if, you know, jihadists are coming in along with legitimate refugees," she said.

Clinton has called on the U.S. to accept 65,000 Syrian refugees, a dramatic increase from President Obama's proposal of 10,000.

If you haven't seen Republican Debate Moderator, the fair and balanced New York Times reporter John Harwood, fawning over Hillary and bragging to that campaign about how he tripped up her would-be Republican opponents on her behalf, do check that out.

n a December 2015 email to Podesta, Harwood bragged about his much-criticized debate performance in which he asked Trump “Let’s be honest, is this a comic book version of a presidential campaign?”

Harwood titled the email "I imagine…' and continued the sentence in the body of the email, writing, '...that Obama feels some (sad) vindication at this demonstration of his years-long point about the opposition party veering off the rails.'

"I certainly am feeling that way with respect to how I questioned Trump at our debate," Harwood continued.

That is, he feels the same "vindication" Obama does at "this demonstration" that the GOP is "veering off the rails."

In May of 2015, early on in the Republican primary process, Harwood sent Podesta an email telling him to "watch out' for Dr. Ben Carson.

The subject line of that email read, 'Watch out." "Ben Carson could give you real trouble in a general," Harwood warned.

His obsequious fawning and throne-sniffing of Hillary Clinton is disturbing to read.

Shortly after the Clinton email controversy first broke, Harwood sent an email to Podesta and another Clinton staffer with the subject line "FYI." In it was the text of a tweet that he had sent downplaying the scandal.

Here's the email he sent to her to let her know he was on Team Hillz:

The pathetic eunuch courtier wanted to make sure the Haggard Queen knew all the favors he was doing for her.

Remember, this is the guy who CNBC deemed to be an impartial, objective moderator at the debate. There was no "designated conservative" to balance him.

Roger L. Simon has a good article about all of this.

WikiLeaks Exposes Workings of an American 'Nomenklatura'

The nomenklatura (literally "name list") was one of the indispensable components of the former Soviet Union. It was indeed a literal list of those--almost always devout Communist Party loyalists--who would receive the favors of the state while the proletariat, those supposed "dictators" of the new paradise, lived in squalor and waited in bread lines.

This list was so meticulously kept Stalin was known as "Comrade Filing Cabinet." You were either on it or off. And those who fell off, for whatever causes, real or imagined, were usually headed for the Gulag. The nomenklatura kept everyone in line.

In my book--I Know Best: How Moral Narcissism Is Destroying Our Republic, If It Hasn't Already--I devote a chapter to the rise of a far more subtle and less overtly totalitarian American nomenklatura, one that may be more effective and enduring in the long run (and thus ultimately more threatening to democracy).

WikiLeaks, in its downloads of the "PodestaEmails," in essence confirms the existence of this American list – who is on and who is off—and reveals its workings in remarkable detail. More downloads are on the way. But what we have already has gone a long way to demonstrating how the people of this country have been lied to and deceived for the preservation of this nomenklatura and its power. We owe Julian Assange and his cohorts a debt.

Most evident from their downloads is the unremitting, almost incestual, alliance between elites (read: Democratic Party leadership) and the press, those who are informing us of what we are supposed to think. The myriad emails between New York Times reporter and CNBC anchor John Harwood and Clinton campaign manager John Podesta would approach the risible were they not so disturbing by implication. Presidential debate moderator Harwood, putatively a journalist, actually acts as an advisor to Podesta in them, warning the campaign manager of the dangers of a potential Ben Carson candidacy and even bragging to him about having tripped up Donald Trump at a debate.

But the presidential debate moderator is far from alone in his fealty to the ways and means of the nomenklatura. The New York Times and the Boston Globe--the emails show, as if we hadn't guessed already--colluded with the Clinton campaign.

But the level of collusion goes much deeper than press and politicians. The Department of Justice itself--the emails also reveal--was in private communication with the Clinton people during the investigation of the Hillary Clinton homebrew server, warning her campaign in advance of a State Department release of emails. Everybody was colluding!

The piece raises the question that, while Wikileaks is a consortium of illegal hackers doing illegal hacks -- it has to be remembered that many of the people being hacked were required by law to disclose their work-related emails to the public, their actual bosses, and conspired (and broke the law) to avoid doing so.

(The Podesta emails seem to not have been legally demandable by the public, absent a court subpoena.)

When people such as Hillary Clinton break the law with the willing participation of the Justice Department and FBI to hide from us information which is legally ours, exactly what privacy rights of theirs are we expected to defend?

Breaking: A new disclosure just dropped.

It has long been my contention -- you may have noticed -- that most of the NeverTrump movement, which claims to be against both Hillary and Trump "equally," is in fact full-on pro-Hillary.

I did not know who Louise Mensch was until the night of the Chelsea Bombing in New York City. That night, I got to know exactly who she was. Over the course of the evening, she ridiculed "Trumpkin bed-wetters" (or words to that close effect) for making a big deal about a bombing that she said barely fussed anyone at all. Why, she insisted, people in Chelsea were just eating gelato and laughing about all the bother the media was paying their neighborhood. Just people laughing, eating, enjoying gelato and the warm summer night.

She was following Obama's playbook of pretending terrorism away -- for the exact same reason Obama does it. Because terrorism hurts the party in power, and helps the challenger party.

She runs a site called "Heat Street" which is supposedly "conservative" or at least anti-Political-Correctness, but she seems like a straight up liberal to me.

Anyway, here's NeverTrumper Louise Mensch's little email to Hillary:

I don't know if this woman has claimed, like the rest of them, to be "Against Both Equally" or if she's admitted straight-up that she's a Hillary supporter.

If it's the former -- if she's been lying as the rest of them lie -- I think it's time to drop that particular pose.

When you get caught offering advertisement advice to the Hillary campaign, it's time to set aside the pretense that you're "against both equally."

Here's that email in full, below the fold.

I like this idea (Louise is a former Conservative British MP. Very smart.)

Subject: Hillary ad Dear Michael, As you will know from Arnold I am a committed Republican (or would be if I had the vote this year).

But I worry no end about Donald Trump becoming our President... much rather have your girl Hillary.

Anyway, the politician in me thinks Lena Dunham and Gloria Steinem are nails on a chalkboard to the average American woman AND I think Hillary is not capitalizing on the yearning that we have to see a woman as President properly.

Her competence and intelligence are beyond doubt, her problem is warmth.

If I may, here is an ad I would love to see run;

OUR TIME

A succession of mostly young women, a few old women, one with a baby daughter, multiracial and multi-occupation, to include a nurse and a woman in uniform of some kind where permitted...

one after the other, smiling and looking to camera and saying 'It's our time.' and the last woman says, 'It's our time. I'm with her.'

fade to banner credit 'Hillary 2016' ----

That would be inspirational, aspirational, and the kind of riff you really need on 'Yes we can'. Best, Louise --

Louise Mensch

[end email; begin commentary by ace]

Yes, she's a super-committed Republican, obviously. All the NeverTrumpers are. Just ask them -- they'll tell you.

Here's her comment on it: She's saying she was for Hillary, until Egg McMuffin got into the race.

Apparently she's been a known, admitted Hillary Girl (and of course a "Committed Republican") for a while.

Apparently she was not earlier in the "Against Both Equally" column; she was publicly #WithHer.

But since Egg McMuffin got into the race, she now claims, I guess, to be against both Trump and Hillary equally, like the rest of the NeverTrump crew.

I guess my question would be this:

How would downplaying and pretending away a terrorist incident taking place on a Democrat President's watch help Egg McMuffin?

Seems like Egg McMuffin -- a former staffer on national security issues -- would be helped most by noting the terrorism threat. No?

No, instead Louise Mensch pretended the bombing was no big deal, and sneered away all the puncture injuries from shrapnel as "minor."

Just a few minor shrapnel wounds puncturing the flesh of 29 people (one seriously) due to a bomb planted by an Islamic terrorist.

Nothing for this anti-PC, Hillary-supportin', pro-Grrrrl grrl to get bothered about!

GELATO!

On the other hand, Hillary and her handlers are obviously so worldly, smart, sophisticated, and have such bearing that it's not much risk on that side.

Come on folks.

To niggle: it did not delete the priestly class; it actually made all of us priests, in fulfillment of Exodus 19:6.

I like the Oz analogy better: the rending of the curtain into the holy of holies does work in the simple degree of exposing, permitting entry to that which the ordinary people were not permitted to see. I wish that part of the analogy were true, that many would see from this the corruption. I think there are too many degrees of separation and dots to connect to interest the average LIV in this nation though.

The Left hates the idea of God because they can not stand the thought that there is something they can not control and mold in their own image. They are now trying to force men to think and behave like women. They also can't stand the idea of a Being sitting in judgment of them - because only they have the right to do that (or so they think). Their morals are relativistic; God's are absolute.

No. They are giving her editorial control of the final product. They are giving her questions in advance. They are leaking other items to her, such as articles on opponents and upcoming debate questions. There acting as campaign consultants by making suggestions on ads, lines of attack on opponents, intentionally attempting 'gotchas' on opponents, etc..

This is way, way beyond simply bias.

The Heat Street site is part of Rupert Murdoch's digital division. Mensch has worked for Murdoch for years.

Not saying Murdoch isn't political (we know he's pro-Hillary), just keep that in mind - you are agreeing with current Democrats who are trying to restrict Murdoch's WSJ and Fox News from covering politics because foreign ownership (though they likely have found a way to allow NYT's Carlos Slim to not be covered by this).

This goes far beyond bias, in what we always saw as sugarcoating and/or suppressing Hillary's weaknesses.

No. They are giving her editorial control of the final product. They are giving her questions in advance. 329 Being Catholic, I find these email leaks disturbing, yet curious.

My understanding is most Catholics are blue-collar and have tended to be (and vote for) Democrats. Considering the Church's teachings on pro-life, this always baffled me, but hey. I can look around the parish I attend and I see this proven out.

With the current pope taking the Church in a hard left turn, is it fair to say that the undermining has been underway for a long time? Considering the silence of many (most) bishops on current issues I think it has. One only has to look at how quick they got into bed with democrats with the Obamacare. And they were satisfied with Obama's word regarding birth control. The fable of the scorpion and the frog come to mind. And I haven't forgotten (and struggle to forgive) the US Council of Catholic Bishops for this.

Is HRC's campaign threatened with the Catholic Church? Why? Because of the hierarchical nature of the Church? Because there is an authoritarian figure (Pope) leading it?

357 Ace --

Here's the problem, as perfectly reflected by your post itself:

Trump's "scandal" can be fully communicated with just three words:

"Trump said 'pussy'."

But Hillary's scandal, while a zillion times more serious and scandalous, requires 6,000 words just to be summarized.

As a result, the average person only ever grasps the Trump scandal.

It's similar to the concept of an "elevator pitch" when seeking venture capital funding: If you have a really really fabulous business idea that is sure to make your investors a fortune, but it is so complicated and thoroughly thought-out that it takes a 90-minute PowerPoint presentation to explain it to the investors, then they won't give you any money. But the next guy in line has an absurd and ill-conceived business plan for which he nonetheless has created a pitch so concise that he fully explains it during the elevator ride up to the conference room, then they WILL fund his venture. Why? Because the brain has a preference for "simple" things.

Heck even I don't have the time, energy or interest to fully immerse myself in all of Hillary's vast cesspool of corruption and evil. Even I have to just summarize it in my mind as the three words, "Hillary is crooked."

Can the average voter do that same? Sadly, I doubt it.

367 Some Brexit British guy was on FOX this morning, saying Trump needs to go beyond the insult of the "neutral" Rs that are actually helping Hillary. He needs to show how both sides in DC ignore the people, and how that hurts jobs, and the economy, (and whatever else)

Because off course when special interest gets favors, especially open borders, it means "they took our jobs" is a real thing. And causing chaos to keep the little people desperate for BigGov (even as BigGov is causing the problems) is a ploy. They are the problem, not the solution. (Reagan said that)

Trump instead of whining and trying to convince people the DC cartel is a problem (they know), needs to campaign with that as a PREMISE. The louder the cartel gets, the more it shows how they don't listen to the people ... they lie and the people lose. Tie every Wikileak exposure to how it has cost Americans jobs, prosperity, safety. Trump is the exorcist and the builder. Tear down and rebuild the America we stand and sing for before sports events.

393 Trump instead of whining and trying to convince people the DC cartel is a problem (they know), needs to campaign with that as a PREMISE.

Yep. I think the best argument FOR Trump is not just that he's not a Washington insider, but that he has articulated a rational, America First philosophy that gets to the heart of so much that is wrong with our current way of doing things.

It takes time and effort to explain that to people who think he's the "you're fired" guy, and now the "grab her p***y" guy.

As much as some of us would like to articulate what is wrong with the Clintons, Hillory, and the Democrat Party in general, she's got the "I'm with her" thing, and like it or not, that's going to carry the day.

Enough dames are going to overlook everything else, and only see that she's got a pooner her own self. That's enough.

And you can't fit an argument against inside the pea brains of those who have accepted it.

Trump seems to be good at repetition of simple characterizations.
"Corrupt Hillary" works, as well as his repeated assertion that Hillary's had 30 years to do this. His response to her "it was a mistake" excuse was excellent, too: "Hillary doesn't even know that a 'C' means it's classified!"

455 >>>Conservative Catholicism

I think it's odd that the left would view the Catholic Church as conservative. I have always considered the church to be essentially left wing. True, the are anti-abortion. But, they are also against the death penalty. They are even against contraception, not a position of many on either the right or the left. They are in favor of promoting life, in all policies, seems to be their outlook.

But, economically, they are in favor of governments doing more, always more, to help the poor, the disadvantaged, etc. That means tax dollars and regulation. That's left wing ideology. That is distinct from their own efforts, which are many, to help people. I am not speaking of church charity, but rather what they advocate for as governmental policy.

The Catholic Church is also a very hierarchical organization, the most hierarchic religion in the world, in my opinion. All of the local churches answer ultimately to Rome. All of the church properties are under the control of the Vatican. All church doctrine is decided by the Vatican.

They are the opposite of the philosophy of federalism. They do not have a multitude of local churches or even archdioceses trying different things based on what works for them and their local flocks. You never hear of a local Catholic church breaking away from the main organization to go their own way. Of course, people can leave, even the ministers can leave, but the properties stay under the control of the Catholic Church. Regrdless of who comes and goes, that local church will continue to be in alignment with the dictates of the Vatican.

I am not saying this to criticize the Catholics. They have every right to run their religion in the way that they see fit. But, I really have to wonder at anyone who looks at a Catholic and thinks to themselves, there is a member of a right wing organization.

Then they started calling themselves "journalists" instead of "reporters". Because reporters are only supposed to report. Journalists can create a narrative.

You are wrong if you think there is no overlap between religion and politics. Churches frequently take positions on political issues, based on what they believe is moral. Nothing wrong with that. If a church believes abortion is murder, why shouldn't they advocate for laws that reflect that morality? And, there are plenty of times where the law (politics) affects religious organizations. Tax codes, insurance mandates, etc.

Anyway, the point of my comment was not about Catholic church goers. They do not decide church policy. The Catholics do not elect their leadership, and have no input when it comes to Vatican policy. I was speaking about the structure and political outlook of church leadership, the Vatican.

I agree that members of a church can leave the church. But, we sometimes read about other churches, where the local membership decides to break away from the larger organization. And, since in many cases, the local church is owned by the local congregation, they can retain the property. The church itself can switch. That does not happen, ever, with the Catholics. Their churches are not owned locally and so that church will always be a Catholic church. The only way it will ever stop being a Catholic church is if the hierarchy decides to close it down.

I know that the Catholic church does not demand that its members hold all the same views as the Vatican, so I know there are plenty of Catholics that are pro abortion or pro death penalty. But, the Vatican decides official church policy.

I didn't know that the Vatican accepted the death penalty in some cases. I had thought that they were always against it.

They are against it in most cases because they hold open the hope of redemption for the criminal. However they also recognize that there are some who refuse redemption, and constitute such a threat to society, that society has no choice in defending itself.

Posted by: Iblis at October 12, 2016 02:18 PM (9221z)

528 The Catechism of the Catholic Church states that the death penalty is permissible in certain cases if the "guilty party's identity and responsibility have been fully determined". As to defense against the criminal, the Church teaches that if there are other means available to defend people from the "unjust aggressor", these means are preferred to the death penalty because they are considered to be more respectful of the dignity of the person and in keeping with the common good. Because today's society makes possible effective means for preventing crime without execution, the Catechism - quoting Pope John Paul II wrote that "the cases in which execution of the offender is an absolute necessity 'are very rare, if not practically nonexistent.'"

Sounds like they continue to support the death penalty in theory, but in practice, believe that it is no longer moral. That is, in practice, there is always a way to avoid using it.

I am so disgusted with the media. They are who gave us Obarky and his corrupt cabal. I think it is a race for the Obarky branch and the Clinton branch of the corrupt tree of evil to see who wins.

531 She's for McMullin like I'm for Jill Stein. She should just come out and admit she's a walking talking Democrat false flag operation.

532 Absolutely. Whether Trump wins or loses, we know exactly who our enemies are now.

Barzini, right? Because Tataglia was a pimp and he could never outfight Sonny?

Jeebus, dude. We knew who the enemies of the Republic were before a loudmouthed reality TV star came alongto show us the way. Not like these enemies were all that secret about it. The GOP Establishment? Check. Democrats? Check. The MSM?Check.

Nobody has been playing subtle, Machiavellian, nth-dimensional chess here. You've read at least some of the Podesta emails by now. They're very matter-of-fact and direct in their approach.

It's always easier to destroy than it is to build.

533 @503...he is certainly proud of it. Maybe it is the first time he got one in the presence of women.

It is as evil as the hideous bum on a New Orleans bus, who did this display through his pants while sitting across the aisle from me and my cousins. I was 13 at the time, otherwise I would have kicked him and harfed all over his prize.

I want to know who the female reporters were on the plane that day. I guess they thought this was glorious. Tittering hypocrites.

534 Way late to this party but leftists, even those who proclaim loyalty to a religion are often a Leftist religion first member.

535 This is a waterfall from Assange. He said that "Hillary will go to jail" for some of them so I think some real humdingers are to follow. Wow.

Hey, Julian? Tick tock goes the clock. Anytime now would be GREAT for you to release the juicy stuff. Thus far, all we've really seen is that (a) Podesta is kind of a dick, and (b) the press is cozied up to the Clintons. Not exactly breaking news, either of them.

Posted by: Scout at October 12, 2016 03:14 PM (ukad2)

537 250 I listed that of which I had personal knowledge regarding the Clintons. Trump's repulsiveness has been on display in his media appearances, his twitter account, his inability to articulate anything without changing it an hour later, Trump University, Trump steaks, Trump Vodka, his distortion of his "self made" background, his comments about women publicly, and as we're finding, privately. Hillary is no less repugnant. People get the government they deserve, and the American, through apathy, laziness, and ignorance are getting what they deserve this election..The Trumpkins always want to believe that a vote against Trump is electing Hillary, and it's somehow the NeverTrump folks who are responsible for Hillary's election. That's silly. The people responsible are the willfully ignorant who wanted a change so badly, they blinded themselves to what they were seeing and hearing from Trump..

539 #NeverTrumper here. Just thought I would let you know that, at least this one has been and will always be conservative. I make my own decisions. I made this one in Dec of last year. I made my peace with it a long time ago. Oh and for nominating Trump, I have become #NeverRepublican. I will vote for a candidate but I left the Republican party.

If you want to know where Trump got his ideas, see every Democrat campaign run in the Mid-West during the 70's.

Cheers,

540 "Remember, this is the guy who CNBC deemed to be an impartial, objective moderator at the debate. There was no "designated conservative" to balance him."

There has NEVER been an actual Conservative debate moderator for a Presidential debate, and precious few for R primary debates. At best they might let a Conservative ask a question or two, but only in a debate "moderated" by radical Leftists.

The R Party is pathetically weak here.
