Economy Produces Anemic 156,000 Jobs; Unemployment Rate Ticks Up

Missing the already-low projection of 176,000.

Sounds like a job for the Washington Post, aka Jeff Bezos' multimillion in-kind donation to Hillary:

Solid work, Washington Post.

Wow. We really are living in an orwellian nightmare.

90+ million people out of the work force is a "thin" pool of available labor?

Lowest participation rate ever is a "thin" pool of labor?

And speaking of "solid" - what % of those "new" jobs are full-time? And in which sectors? Those details usually make the already anemic numbers much worse, to any thinking person.

21 It's the economy, stupid!

I've posted before about John Crudele at the NY Post -- a real journalist who's been exposing the lies in our economic statistics for the last few years, including the two key figures of GDP growth and the unemployment rate. There was also recent finagling of household incomes. It's like we're living in a Soviet Five Year Plan or Mao's Great Leap Forward.

Notably most Americans are worse off despite Obama's spending in excess of $8 trillion with borrowings while the Fed has kept interest rates near zero -- GDP growth should have been redlining above 5% -- instead its been less than our population growth -- we've collectively been getting poorer.

Personally, I find the juxtaposition of the vibrant colors against the black foundation to truly make the colors sing. Not to mention the complimentary play of the variants in color between the organic and inorganic materials.

There's also something piquant about the delicacy and wispiness of the outer wrapping with the solid and firm structures required with that which is underneath.

But, and this is key, holy hell are those amazing boobs.

Media bias amounts to a 15-20% edge for the Democrats in every election

elected as dogcatcher.

Our side needs to go after these propaganda artists and take away their licenses for making unreported, in-kind contributions to the Democrat Party.
D'Nesh D'Sousa went to fucking jail for making an unreported contribution to a

standard? Their licenses say they will serve the interests of the community,

116 21 It's the economy, stupid!

Posted by: Ignoramus at October 07, 2016 12:32 PM (r1fLd)

All of the Quantitative Easing. The Fed buying up equities.

Also I read an interesting article at the Conservative Tree House that correctly states there has not been a budget passed since the TARP bailouts so every year another 700 billion are handed out to the banks to distribute money globally to prop up the economy. Passing a budget would end that yearly free cash handout.

Explains why both parties refuse to pass a budget.

However, if any of her friends replies to it, the reply will go, not back to her, but to the organizer of the event.

She and her husband and friends are not very computer savvy people. I just emailed her telling her to tell everyone on that list to delete the appointment, not hit reply.

I doubt that anybody idiot enough to set up a "Black Sexual Lives Matter" seminar will have much of a sense of humor about being mocked.

As for the "solid" common narrative point, looks like it started with:

Cleveland Federal Reserve President Loretta Mester told CNBC on Friday the government's weaker-than-expected employment report for September was still strong enough to keep her thinking central bankers should increase interest rates.

"It's a solid labor market report," Mester said on "Squawk Box." She's a voting member this year on the Fed's policy panel, the Federal Open Market Committee. "This is very consistent with what we expected to see."

And since your average business reporter is a liberal who just watches the business channels and retypes press releases, they ran with it.

Also, I think we'll see "solid" as the new normal anytime something gets revised downward.

The first number was not solid. We had to revise it. But this new crap sandwich? Super solid. Break your teeth on it.

211 The sectors that have too high prices and/or too high wages are those with high levels of government interference: health care, education, housing.

The rest of the economy could do fine with deflation and lower wages if this weren't the case, but the elites would unduly suffer from deflation.

Illegal immigration provides job growth in education and health care.

There's an alternative universe where typical Americans pay less for housing, health care and education, and government taxes, but work less and have smaller paychecks, but have a higher quality of life.

212 Solid all right , solid cr@p. Spent-uranium-dipped-in-gold-burnished-in-silver-plate cr@p!

Feck the MSM - if Trump cannot hammer this - and judo flip these asinine "solid" economy questions ( or questions like last debate: "Gee Obama's great recovery has been soooooo super - but, really, how could you make it better") in the next debate we are going to lose this thing. He simply cannot let softball opportunities to both hammer Hillary and skewer the MSM liberals go by the board anymore.

Any response that does not start with: " I am sorry . Did you just start off your question with the statement that the economy is doing great? Maybe for you in the MSM and your liberal crony capitalist friends and inside of the government like Hillary, who are selling access in return for payoffs and jobs for friends, like she did with the so called "Clinton Foundation" . . . [pause for eyebrow raise and disgust filled glance at moderator] . . . but for the rest of America, the real America of working people, they have been suffering non stop, and their kids have no job prospects and, worst of all, in inner cities and African America communities the jobless rate is well above 8 percent, and if our current crooked administration kept accurate runners it would probably be reported as well above 20%. So I cannot answer your slanted, biased question as it supposes that everything in our economy is just great - and it is not - people are suffering, and will continue to suffer if we re-elect someone so patently unfit to run any sort of business as Hillary, who has never done an honest days work, or started a business or doen anything that has led to job creation and has only taken your hard earned tax dollars and wasted them on graft and corruption. It ends here. It ends now. And it certainly ends when I am elected president" [drop mike. Wait for applause to end - start measuring for drapes in the oval office]

in one month and the liberal media was talking about it as if we had

They *always* dinged Bush for job growth being "below expectations".
So the story was always along the lines of "Job Growth 0.25% Less Than Expected" even when there was growth.

The MSM loves to reference what is "expected" or that happens "unexpectedly." Always wondered where these expectations originated and why they bother to heed them given that they're always off.
Maybe they're hanging out with the "Some People" who are always quoted (as in "Some people say Trump does not have the temperament to be POTUS")...

They interviewed the girl's mom, a former employer, and someone from the state's Labor department about it. How, oh how, could this have happened? 6+ minutes of hand-wringing about it.

Never mentioned? Her ID was most likely stolen and used by an illegal immigrant.

It turns out that Goldilocks is real: the labor market is not too hot and not too cold. In September the U.S. economy produced 156,000 new jobs, with increases in both the goods and services sectors. More importantly, average hourly earnings grew at an annual pace that approaches 2 % very solid. Hours ticked up somewhat as well, so the foundation of income growth was solid.

There's a very interesting discussion as to whether or not there is a responsibility to shareholders for a public company to rent seek.

After all, there's a non-delegable duty to maximize return to shareholders. Thus, if you can engage in regulatory capture, there's a solid (heh) argument to be made that you are required to do so.

That's akin to how I get confused when people are all omg omg omg Business A is trying to put Business B out of business! Yes. Yes, they each are doing that. That's how that works, that's how all of that works.

361 What? No update on the jobs that continue to be "Saved or Created" by the ONE TRILLION DOLLARS of "investment" debt we took on?

*scribbles on napkin, carries the two...*

Huh... something must be wrong with my math. It says here that removing a trillion dollars plus compound interest from the economy over 30 years, then "investing" the borrowed money in paying down GM benefit debt and solar companies that go out of business in less than a year results in... nothing.

Surely taking on a trillion in debt to make payments on debt and invest in bankruptcy and unicorn farts should yield something, right? I mean, it's a trillion dollar investment! Right?

392 Rhetorical question, no doubt, but I'll take a stab at the obvious just to vent. It takes a strong negative for the Obama (soon to be Clinton) politburo and spins it into a positive.

Phrasing it this way puts it into context for the reader. and makes a low number seem, well, solid. Like saying Joe MLB player posted a solid .205 batting average. If you don't know something about major league baseball, maybe it sounds ok to you as opposed to the reality of it brushing the Mendoza line and being a ticket to the minor leagues.

And adding the explanation of the purported thin labor pool makes a naïve reader feel, "Gee, Obama's doing better than I thought. There must not be too many unemployed people out there if the labor pool has dwindled so small under his vigilance."

Above all else, Obama is always our Lord and Savior, and must always be portrayed thusly. So sayeth the Ministry of Truth - today's media.

418 All of the Quantitative Easing.

Posted by: Pepe, the Irredeemable at October 07, 2016 12:45 PM (0wm3C)

First a technical point. The Fed is not buying equities. They are legally prohibited from doing that. Quantitative easing occurs when they purchase new issue Federal debt, i.e. monetizing the deficit. This has the effect of keeping interest rates low, which in turn props up equity markets by making fixed income instruments less attractive.

Second, if someone is telling you that TARP funds continue to be disbursed, they are wrong. That program wrapped up on schedule, and money is no longer being appropriated for it. It was not a cash handout, either. Money was spent to acquire difficult-to-value debt instruments with additional guarantees from the sellers in the form of equity warrants, Total expenditures were in the neighborhood of $426 billion, and revenues (from the sale of the warrants and re-valued assets once the valuation crisis was over) were around $441 billion. Last sale of assets, wrapping up the program, was in 2014.

428 >>Was watching Fox this morning and according to their two Female media
experts, there is no media bias because Trump keeps saying things they
MUST Fact check... because he is always telling lies...

Brit Hme got the true definition of "fact-checking" from a panelist right before the 1st debate. Here's how the conversation approximately went (from memory):

Hume: "What do you mean by 'fact-checking' during the debate?"

Female Panelist: "Well, if Trump siad one thing 10 years ago, and he says the opposite tonight, the moderate should challenge him."

Hume: "Trump's opinions might have changed over time, that's not a factually false statement. I would think fact-checking would be verifying the information the candidates say, like numbers, etc."

Female Panelist: "Oh, the moderator can't do that! He wouldn't have the time to check all that detail..."
----
"Fact checking" = finding inconsistencies in Trump's statements, real or manuafactured

Posted by: Gentlemen, this is democracy manifest

1) population growth
2) new people coming into the work force (HS grads, college grads, immigrants)
3) what about people retiring? How do we count their replacements?
4) And how do they count "jobs lost" when the factory down the road closes, 300 people are laid off and the same factory then opens up in Monterrey, Mexico so Jose can do the same job for $15/day?

Labor participation rates are down significantly from 2006-2007. Not just a little, quite a bit.

All this "job creation" is just so much horse manure. Sure, there are always "new" jobs created, but are they exceeding "jobs lost".

Holt (probably after the advice from his earpiece he wasn't supposed to have) said Trump backed the Iraq War, as fact. He knew Trump denied that ... but didn't even state it as questionable ... but as fact. dick

Hillary never gets "fact checked" except by Trump.

446 First a technical point.

I'm on a cell phone with dial up speed. It was within the 4 years I believe from zerohedge that the Fed was beginning to buy up Equities and putting them on the balance sheet.

As far as the Bailouts since their has been no budget passed since bailouts, the Omnibus spending bill is based on a percentage increase of spending year after year including the Bailouts. While it is obviously not listed or reported, it could be legal.

I'd search for the links but I'm crawling at dial up 28k speed right now.

I'm so damn cynical about our lying criminal government, taut I would not be surprised by both of these stories because both involve accounting trickery and both match the MO.

You need to stop getting your information from conspiracy-minded, panic-mongering websites. Here is a direct quote from Janet Yellen a few days ago when she testified before Congress: "Well, the Federal Reserve is not permitted to purchase equities."

And you are simply wrong about TARP. The program isn't there anymore. People who suggest otherwise (not you, but your sources) simply do not understand the process, and/or have not bothered to look at the specific legislation passed since then.

For one thing, a budget was passed in May of 2015 for the 2016 Fiscal Year. For another, money for TARP (which was limited to purchasing certain 'troubled' classes of debt and for a limited period of time) has not been appropriated for years. Appropriations bills follow the budget and are where the money is actually spent, and TARP isn't in there. Furthermore, all of the TARP debt (and equity warrants, which were a form of guarantee given by the banks in addition to handing over the debt) were sold years ago.

All of this is a matter of public record. There simply is not a $700 billion annual slush fund out there. The fact that TARP was scaled back and never exceeded $430 billion ought to give you some indication that your sources are taking some liberties with the truth, as would a review of the subsequent legislative record.

451 Isn't the rock-bottom number needed just to break even somewhere around 200-225,000 jobs added? Anything less used to signify a shrinking workforce.

But that was before Obama eradicated "trickle down" and brought us into this burgeoning growth period, where misery is shared equally among the lower classes.
