Also, as a reminder, don't forget the AoSHQ Postal Match. CBD is going to take me out to Jersey to shoot. I assume it won't be a recreation of Pete Clemenza and Rocco Lampone with Paulie Gatto. Note: Do NOT post comments to that thread as you may suffer unintentional banning.

Some years ago during a rash of really bad tornadoes in Oklahoma, Missouri and Alabama, I remember reading some comment from some smug a-hole in California, about how they had spent so much money making new buildings "earthquake proof" and how those rubes deserved it, for not building better shelters in twister country, and denying global warming which was amping up tornadoes.

Sure it was.

Like somebody deserves an F5 tornado that can level a town.

13 Morning, 'rons and 'ronettes. How about a Silent Cal story?

It comes courtesy of Richard Washburn Child, who was US ambassador to Italy during Coolidge's presidency. The two were having dinner at the White House and, when it was over, the President crooked a finger and told the ambassador to follow him.

"He took me to one of the smaller rooms," Child remembered. "Opening the door, he reached in and turned on the light. On the opposite wall hung a portrait of himself. I thought it so very bad, I could think of nothing to say."

For a long, silent moment the two of them stood there on the threshold. Then Coolidge snapped off the light and closed the door.

"So do I," he said.

Hope you all have a wonderful day. BTW, I'm taking next week off, for the first time in about a year, so am going to unplug even from the HQ, and be back probably around the 17th.

22 Coolidge would have had some interesting chats with his ambassador to Italy. He was extremely fluent in Italian, having written his own translation of Dante. Heck of a Latinist, too. And in Latin, "You lose" is just one word (classical reference, heh).

A Hillary PC America is a nightmare. She can't become president, where she would keep slicing us up for Clinton syndicate ends.

"But when Paul perceived on part were Sadducees, and the other part Pharisees, he cried out in the council, Men and brethren, I am a Phareisee, the son of a Pharisee: of the hope and resurrection of the dead I am called in question.
And when he had so said, there arose a dissension between the Pharisees and the Sadducees: and the multitude was divided."

Hillary uses this ploy, but in a despicable cynical way.

When Hillary perceived some were PC vulnerable, and the other part tired of the divisive crap, she called out to right leaning voters, "it is for my acceptance of all races and equality of sexes that I am called into question. Many Republicans are PC enlightened like me, but those Trump blue collar deplorables are racist and xenophobic, Islamophobics that are irredeemable and awful."

Trump needs to make clear what a despicable political ploy Hillary played against the True Blue Americans of all parties. She divides America with dishonest attacks, and the left has been demeaning great Americans for decades with such divisive tactics.

The police and military and blue collar America are one with black neighborhoods, white or any ethnicity American. We are united as Americans, but divided when Hillary says America is a racist nation, that even our local police need iron fist federal control. Our one tribe (if I could call it that) is America ... a president must serve its citizens first, uniting ALL citizens. Foreigners are welcomed only if they are good for America.

Not to sound like a jerk on that statement, but is that a local or State law where you are at?

For example, in Maryland an 18 year old may indeed own certain firearms, like for example regulated rifles and shotguns.

Specifically prohibited for 18 year old ownership are regulated weapons and handguns.

Anyone who says stuff like "the right side of history" with a straight face, or speaks about the future of their political ideology like it's already written in stone should be shot. That kind of "destiny" talk is a hallmark of totalitarians, and a sign that they view themselves as 100% right and everybody else as not even worth listening to, and only capable of being an impediment to their inevitable future.

127 The timing of the ads depends on the money available partly, but also letting Hillary burn through her money is fine, if they know real polling shows Trump is still tied or maybe ahead. Yup. Illegal immigrants have been a big issue in VA (especially N. Oh yeah, and then there was the VA connections to 9/11 - some of the terrorists came through VA, getting fake IDs here and visiting an Alexandria mosque, and several of those muslim "charities" that Bush shut down for funding terror.

Low gun profile is good.

One of the weaknesses of the Mosin Nagant sniper rifle was the high placement of the scope forcing the sniper to expose more of their head in order to shoot.

316 this is the video that analyzes the 100s of times she was looking down to read. Seems fairly conclusive. That "light bar" was hooked to the devices in the lectern, that all those guys were so careful about removing right after the the debate.
It could easily have put up notes, just like any basic handheld device, but with a different screen. Then it goes to white when not flashing notes. It couldn't be that she was just looking at prepared typed notes imo ... more likely teleprompter like large print, that could be fed to her more clearly.

But this video mostly covers her looking down so often, but not in her opening at all. 870 for Clinton, 10 times for Trump. Someone into tech needs to see if those "lectern teleprompter bars" are available.

324 Saw footage of some folks in Florida ahead of the storm, in a trailer park, nailing 4X8 plywood panels over the windows...on their trailer. I thought that was interesting.

If I had to live in one of those, I'd build up earthworks around it and turn it into a hobbit-hole.

326 My brother is riding Matthew out in Titusville. The eye has stayed out to sea and the winds barely qualify as a Cat 1 hurricane. Yes, there will be damage up the Florida coast but we were being led to believe this was a much stronger storm than it actually turned out to be. I rode out Andrew in 92 and was freaked out by my brother's choice to shelter in place. Accurate information would have made things much easier to form my opinion.

329 Wall Street Jrnl had similar coverage of the NFL ratings, about 30 column inches, with one-count'em-one inch on the possibility that fans were unhappy with the Anthem affair. No mention of boycotts or concerted action. Lots of quotes from NFL spokespersons about this being a bump in the road. Sort of a "huh."

How very...NPR-like of them. Now settle down, peasant, and watch your game.

Every four years the people who live in one house put up their Republican Presidential signs (They may have done it longer but I've only noticed it since McCain/Obama). Sure enough this year they have two Trump signs up in an area that includes "Black Lives Matter" signs and several Hillary signs. I admire their fortitude and often think about putting a note on their mailbox "Good job!"

this just shows the end of the debate, where the "prompter" light turns off on its own.

NBC would surely have known, they had that camera from behind, but a note in this youtube video thinks there is a screen that might hide it when viewed from an angle. idk, maybe some sort of polarized screen?

But it seems clear she is checking her facts on the screen, especially after Trump won the first part of the debate.

She (wrongly) claims stop and frisk was unconstitutional, and ineffective. Trump rolls his eyes, but she "remembers" a lot of stats.

I'm aware that forecasters cannot predict the exact path it will take. But they were playing this up as if it were the storm of the century when it turned out to be mostly a nothingburger. Cat 1's are bad storms but in the big scheme of things, it's just one shitty day in paradise. Some outlets were claiming a storm of this magnitude hadn't been seen since the 1800's. 377 I am thankful to God and many prayers that the cone of the storm changed to the ocean at the last minute, weakening Matthew to a Cat 3, and the worst winds were not over land and hurricane force winds as far as Orlando where my sons were staying.

Matt Drudge, from the little I read, and others in their conspiracy (and I am up for a little conspiracy with the government and elections or debates any day), based his doubt on the US Air Force NOAA data on ONE buoy and ONE man's assessment of the buoy in the ocean vs the data of the plane. Of course it would be different, no? And some buoy data is wrong. Whatever.

It is not unusual at all for a hurricane's wind force to change prior to landfall. In most cases, like with Floyd, we rejoice as an answer to prayers.

In some cases, within the cone, there are some unprepared, as with Hurricane Charlie that killed 10 people in a sudden veer towards Punta Gorda as a Cat 4...sustained winds recorded at 147 mph. Throw the dice, the decision is yours to make in evacuations.

I am thankful my sons are fine, the island with friends are fine, and, from what I can tell, no major damage to buildings in Brevard County.

Posted by: ChristyBlinky, Deplorable Infidel Queen at October 07, 2016 12:50 PM (Cx8BK)

378 Forgot to add, above, that the data from the Freeport buoy was during the eye of the hurricane, which is calm.

Could be wrong, as I read last night when I was busy praying for sons and many friends, that they be spared the worst of storm. And they were.

Thankful. As I always was after evacuations...that it was not as bad as predicted. I was never, ever, angry that all was fine and the predictions were wrong...and, snarl, I had to evacuate and spend time in a hotel and pack and board up and waaaaah. Be thankful in all things. When you can come back, alive, to a house, jobs and schools, I'd say those are reasons to be thankful.
