Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Sean Hannity: Megyn Kelly, You're a Hillary Clinton SupporterI don't know why this is a big story. I suspect it comes down to three things: 1. Fox is a fairly stage-managed operation and so a bit of backstage bickering is interesting. 2. The conservative movement is over-interested in personal squabbles between its "celebrities." 3. The NeverTrump class that controls most of the commanding heights of conservative media is very opposed to saying people who clearly support Hillary Clinton clearly support Hillary Clinton, for purely self-interested reasons. They want to support Hillary Clinton while forbidding you to note the obvious, on pain of shunning and whatever actual purging from the party they have the power to pull off. It's their plot to tank the election, then come forward as the leaders of GOP thought again. Basically, their plan is to give West Point to the British, and then, after the war is lost, they want to demand that America put them back in charge of West Point again. To "save the party" or whatever. They have therefore agreed mutually among each other that to call an obvious Hillary supporter an obvious Hillary supporter is on the level of a racial slur, a disgusting insult never to be uttered. And anyone who dares to speak the obvious should be branded guilty of a speechcrime akin to racism. One More: I forgot to include this one: 4. The conservative movement as a whole is a stage-managed operation. There is this wrongheaded idea that we must hide all internal disagreements so that the liberals and/or the media do not see it. Necessary arguments are squelched in the interests of "presenting a united front." Then the putative leadership class wonders how the hell it so badly misread the electorate, while the putative intellectual class wonders why people aren't as psyched about free trade as everyone was at their last Cato Institute symposium. So it feels weird to have a public argument, instead of the sublimated passive-aggressive sniping that we usually have. Comments(Jump to bottom of comments)1

MeAgain is, and has been (I think) exercising her power over the entire network for sometime now. This (again opinion) will likely reveal how much power she really has, because she is in a very powerful position after the sex shit hit the fan, and she is likely to gain whatever she can from this.
Bet - Hannity loses. And when that happens, the entire network loses. Obligatory caveat - I do not watch Fox, or any other news including Hannity or MeAgain. Posted by: Mr Macca Bean (Make deplorable adorable again!) at October 06, 2016 12:45 PM (4ng05) 36

So it feels weird to have a public argument, instead of the sublimated passive-aggressive sniping that we usually have.
I've always made my arguments public. The Vichy GOP would have to be dumber than rocks to claim that they aren't aware of the problems they cause and the policies they pursue that people hate. The Vichy GOP has been very explicit over the past few years that their main task is destroying the Tea Party, which put them back in power to do a couple of things that they absolutely refuse to do. I think that by 2024, we'll see that the what the GOP "intellectual" class has really done in going #NeverTrump is formally declared the end of the conservative coalition.
If they can say that their principles prevent them from supporting Trump over the goal of defeating Hillary Clinton, then the next time, they don't get to make that argument if their guy is nominated. The point of a coalition is to say that we're putting aside our differences in specific issues to defeat the greater enemy. So in 2020, if the nominee is insufficiently pro-life evangelicals are perfectly within their rights to stay home. Insufficiently pro-2A? If that's your thing, you're off the hook, feel free to stay home. Etc. If you're drawing your line in the sand here at Trump, go ahead, but don't start getting mad if we do the same thing next time against your guy. I, for one, haven't watched Fox News since around the time Bill O'Reily started hocking his first book. And I'm better off for it. I get my news here. One thing I cannot stand about all these guys - Hannity, O'Reily, Limbaugh, Kelly, etc, is that they are so transparently narcassitic that it's a huge turn off. Limbaugh is probably the worst of them, with O'Reily right behind. Limbaugh jumps at every chance to refer to himself, how smart he is and how other people talk about him. He can do an hour segment on how some reporter named him specifically in an article about Global Warming. It's ludicrous. Worst thing, none of them have any answers. The "conservative media group" basically makes a living just "talking" about things. Hannity is a wind up Chatty Cathy doll who just repeats the same shit every day. It's always the same guest speakers who get paid to come on the show. Same shit, every damn day. Not one of them wants to fix anything, because fixes would be bad for business. If you're voting Trump because "constitution", then that's a pretty weaksauce argument. Neither one is any good at all when it comes to the Constitution. Is Hillary hostile to the Second Amendment? Yes she is. So was Trump, not too long ago - not *as* hostile as Hillary, but not exactly a Second Amendment Purist either. Is Hillary hostile to the First Amendment? Yes, in part. So is Trump, in part. She wants to censor our political speech. He wants to undermine our current substantive freedom of the press with expanded libel laws. Is Hillary hostile to the Fourth Amendment? Yes she is. So is Trump, in part. Look at Trump's support for "stop and frisk". They are not equally bad, but they are both pretty bad when it comes to the constitution. So don't try to shame me into voting for Trump because of the constitution.

Let's say I accept your premise here, for the sake of argument. To justify voting for neither, you have to believe that both candidates are equally capable of getting away with the horrible shit they want to do. We just have to look at the past 8 years to see that's clearly not the case. Other reasons:
-Fox news is hated because of its ratings and supposedly "conservative" bent so attacking them is a way for the other outlets to "get at them". -The gossip of "Did you hear what (blank) said about (blank)!!!" and "Can you believe what (blank) said about (blank)!!. That last point is what has been substituted for discussion of actual issues. Instead we get high school grrrl gossip back and forth where we're all supposed to pick a team and revel in the zingers being flung back and forth. No different from picking a football, basketball, or baseball team and then vicariously living through the various dramas staged in that area as well. There is a lot you can do against Leviathan without even sticking your neck out. Some thoughts in no particular order: 1 Stop buying stuff 2 Do only what the government directly compels you to do. 3 Pay in cash with a winkwink 4 Cheat the government whenever possible 5 Steal all your entertainment 6 If you know of tax cheating, keep your mouth shut 7 If called to jury, refuse to convict if you think the law unjust 8 Discriminate in all your private dealings, without openly saying so 9 If you see a CoC sticker on a business, go elsewhere 10 Vote against all tax levies, particularly school levies 11 Buy firearms and ammo. It's not simply a just-in-case, it's a good financial investment of small sums when savings are yielding 1/4 of a percent. Good Citizens are chumps. They need us more than we need them. Posted by: Bigbys other phone at October 06, 2016 12:53 PM (IJHJq) Sounds like what NeverTrump is doing (voting to steer the party in a desired direction rather than stop Hillary from stacking the Supreme Court). Not that I have too much room to criticize, I voted for Cruz instead of Rubio or Kasich knowing he was less likely to win a general election (but still far, far more likely than Trump-against Hillary, it was a reasonable risk to take). I think you're wrong, though; if Trump loses this, the Establishment will come out ahead against both the conservative AND the populist wings of the party. We had a shit sandwich buffet this year.
We had 3 or 4 choices that wouldn't have been shit sandwiches, but most of them were eliminated early. I am slightly more generous to Marco Rubio than others. chemjeff,
I don't want to shame you into voting for Trump. I want you to come out of the closet and vote for Hillary. A life in the closet is a terrible thing. Your earlier fling with conservatism or the Constitution may have been a youthful indiscretion that you can overcome by going with the spirit of modern America, which is certainly represented by Hillary. It is pointless to ask how she would compare when it comes to the Constitution as she would shred it - and that is a clear position that we can all understand. Trump might ignore it or forget it or trade it with Senate leaders. Not Hillary. So why not stand with Hillary? Posted by: Lance at October 06, 2016 01:32 PM (TnXQt) 378

Okay, Jeff, point by point:
1st: attempts to bind everyone via PC, destroy freedom of religion, and broadly limit dissent are the same as wanting libel laws not to have carveouts for those with Magic Journalism Powers? Seriously? 2nd: Trump waffley. Seems to think that some jurisdictions might be able to limit ownership, or has, and waffley on watch list. Hillary: actually wants to prohibit all private ownership. 4th amendment: Trump recognizes stop and frisk works (even if problematic), endorses some profiling. Not a guiding light. Hillary and co are wholly onboard with the latest Title IX insanities, and would certainly endorse the search and seizure of entities (IRS targeting, etc.) based on political suppression. Not even crime. *That* is what to be fearful of in a police state. 9th: WHAT ARE YOU EVEN TALKING ABOUT 10th: You mean how Trump has, like, suggested that some matters should be left to the states and Hillary never has, ever? False equivalencies - you're soaking in them. "But Hillary is worse" is only a fallacy in one condition, that of a false choice between her and The Donald. However, as you will get one of the two, it is a genuine choice, with all other possibilities consigned to masturbation. "Here are two candidates, one of which you will get and one of which is spectacularly worse than the other" does not brook any logical answer other than the one that suits your needs. As for "He's with us on immigration," yeah, for now. Remember when he went in whole hog with Rubio and the Gang of Amnesty? Then when he found out the majority of the party wasn't with him, he switched back. And that's Hannity in a nutshell. If tomorrow Trump says that sex with goats is a good thing, Hannity will own a goat before sundown, and tell us how that's what True Conservatives do. 1st: attempts to bind everyone via PC, destroy freedom of religion, and
broadly limit dissent are the same as wanting libel laws not to have carveouts for those with Magic Journalism Powers? I never said that Trump and Clinton are *equally* bad on the Constitution. They aren't. I don't think Trump is as bad as Clinton on the Constitution overall. But supporting Trump is not exactly a vote in favor of constitutional conservatism. Expansion of libel laws would not just affect paid reporters. They would affect anyone who relies upon the freedom of the press, *including bloggers*. So if you expand libel laws to allow people like Trump to sue the NYT when they write something bad about Trump, you are also allowing people like Clinton to sue people like Ace when he says something bad about her. Trump hasn't considered any of that crap, I am sure. Hillary is bad on the Second Amendment but she has never explicitly said she wants to ban all private ownership of firearms. This isn't a support of her position on the Second Amendment, this is simply a statement of fact. I think Trump is less bad but he is definitely waffley. The IRS targeting of nonprofits had nothing to do with the Fourth Amendment so I don't even know where that came from. Broadly speaking, when does Trump speak about constitutional conservatism at all? Posted by: chemjeff at October 06, 2016 01:44 PM (gXKl3) 451

I always liked Hannity. He's a decent guy and he does his homework on issues. He's not the brightest bulb but he usually makes better arguments than most of the smarty-pants, anyway. Not sure why people have a thing about him. He does good work and is a trustworthy and reliable ally.
Posted by: ThePrimordialOrderedPair ------------- I agree. I've known Hannity since back in the days when he was a local radio jock. He's not particularly erudite, but he's a reliable foot-soldier. The goalposts, they are on the march. If Trump is not as bad on the points, that should be enough. BUT WHAT ABOUT TRUMP'S CLEAR AND PRESENT DANGER TO THE CONSTITUTION is a non-starter if there are two outcomes, one of which is far worse, but even pretending there's reason to be "principled", there's nothing on the man's agenda to support imminent attack.
As currently constituted, libel laws are largely unenforcible because intent to malign must be proved. Malicious neglect, not a thing, so the "press" have the ability to slander a public figure nearly at will under the color of "factual, but we made an oopsie". That is not even vaguely constitutionally supported, and the pendulum coming back on that is not wrong. Particularly since in many cases (like Gawker) the left tries to construct a carveout for journalists qua journalists to do whatever they like and leave everyone else out in the cold. 1st amendment for me and not for thee. I'm okay with a level playing field - maybe they'll not advocate for things for which they are themselves exempt. The IRS targeting of nonprofits is actually a sidestep of the Fourth, but worth bringing up. Their abuses made unreasonable document demands of the targets under guise of relevance and their ability to levy fines of suspicion is certainly a seizure of sorts, but the main thrust was to highlight an agency empowered to persecute. DOJ Title IX requirements, "structuring", and any number of other points that the left presses on fall under the Fourth, expressly as expressions of political will. If you believe, as the left does, that stop and frisk are also political will expressions against black people, you might be clinically insane. Trump doesn't speak about constitutional conservatism in exactly those wordsbecause he is not an ideologue. He is not doctrinaire. This is an evasion. He is still the best hope for its advancement. "Then the putative leadership class wonders how the hell it so badly misread the electorate..."
No, the putative leadership class will wonder how the hell the electorate so badly misread their self-evident right to lead it, for its own good of course. The putative leadership class never wonders about their own failings, because they don't think they have any. Posted by: Ray Van Dune at October 06, 2016 02:40 PM (qjlOR) 498
If you go around saying true shit then people are going to notice. Then you will be shunned by people about whom you could care less. And this will be upsetting ... no, wait. Keep up with the true shit.

The pro-illary, nevertrumpers are a bunch of baffoons. Electing Trump will set the democrat party into an orgy of infighting. The Clinton / Obama fight over the party will go into overdrive and THEN add in Bernie Bros. It'd be epic and it'd give the GOP gains for a few cycles at least. But no no no no they're all butt hurt. So buck fush you nevertrumping bastards.

Funny all this talk about Republicans being destroyed if Trump loses, where was that talk about McCain or Romney when they lost?
This race looks to me to be a 3 point game. I'm sure Jeb Bush would be oh so better for the Grand Old Party and America. I'm to the point where I'd rather lose with a guy that calls bullshit on the illegal immigration nonsense than another Uniparty President Posted by: Utopia at October 06, 2016 03:06 PM (hm8zK) 501
". . . while the putative intellectual class wonders why people aren't as psyched about free trade as everyone was at their last Cato Institute symposium."
Seeing as the Cato Institute just released a paper encouraging people to consider "grounds" for "compromise" on gun control, maybe the putative intellectual class isn't as psyched about what they claim to be psyched about in the first place. Which leaves the putative leadership class . . . Posted by: Sam at October 06, 2016 03:12 PM (x15d2) 502
Sean Hannity has become an unhinged psycho. It's comical watching him devolve into sheer madness. It's the same thing we've seen with people like Olbermann, countless MSNBC personalities and Anthony Weiner. He's now bragging about his karate prowess on radio, TV and Twitter. I'm putting the over/under on his empire at 2 years. This guy's self-destructing. Move Mark Levin or Andrew Wilkow into his time slot and have Hannity go back to washing dishes or construction.

Never much cared for Hannity but he books the better guests. Megyn needs to shuttle on over to CNN or MSNBC. I really liked her when she got primetime, now she's as frenzied as any heretic with a microphone.

RE: "Like it or not, not voting at all helps Hillary."
And . . . as I have been assured by others . . . not voting for Hillary is a vote for Trump. So those of us who are voting for neither Democrat running for President get *two* votes for the price of not-voting for either. Way cool. Posted by: Igor at October 06, 2016 04:13 PM (guOWV) 505
I had to run off to class so I could not respond to all of the (substantive) comments that were returned to me.
But I just want to point out that my comment about Donald Trump and the Constitution was modeled after #87's complaint that NeverTrumpers aren't doing anything to stop Hillary's potential shredding of the Constitution. And my point was, and still is, that if constitutional fidelity is the standard by which the candidates are to be judged, neither one measures up. Neither one. So what am I doing to stop the Constitution from being shredded? Not voting for either of the two shredders! You can argue that Trump would shred the Constitution less than Hillary would. And there is merit to that claim. But don't you dare claim that I should vote for Trump because he's the guy who is going to restore some constitutional order. He's not. I'm also getting sick and tired by the miasma of unreason that has swept the right generally. I am now expected to believe that Hillary will literally shovel conservatives into gas chambers, so therefore I must vote for Trump in order to forestall my imminent demise. Sorry - Hillary is bad, but she's not Hitler or Stalin. (And by the way neither is Trump.) She's not going to throw conservatives into the gas chambers. This isn't a defense of her, this is simply a statement of fact at this point. Posted by: chemjeff at October 06, 2016 04:59 PM (1Ip2/) 506
