Guccifer 2.0 Claims to Have Hacked Clinton Foundation

Update: The Daily Caller now updates:

Update: A review of the newly released documents reveals no information about the Clinton Foundation. Instead, the documents appear to come mostly from the Democratic Party of Virginia. Other documents appear to come from the national Democratic party.

It should be noted, however, that such documents could have been gotten from the Clinton Foundation. I will speculate -- without knowing -- that the Clinton Foundation could have had a lot of documents from other Democrats on their servers.

Though I have no idea if that's what happened.

...

It's kind of scary that this is apparently so easily accomplished, even versus targets you would think have pretty good security protocols.

Believed to be affiliated with the Russian government, Guccifer 2.0 released a screen shot of a list of files said to be from the Clinton non-profit’s servers. A massive 820 megabyte file was also released on the site as well as links to several databases containing donor information.

The legitimacy of the documents has not been independently verified.

I don't want to link the Guccifer site where you can download this file because, well, I don't think it's a good idea to encourage anyone to download a file from a claimed hacker and I don't want to be repsonsible for someone absently clicking on a link I provide.

So I'll just note this claim, taken from Twitter:

Lion Lamb @LionandLamb

Wall ST gave TARP funds - taxpayer bailout money - back to the DNC, money laundering! #OctoberSurprise #Guccifer2

And:

DeplorableScottErnst ‏@RealScottErnst 29m29 minutes ago
Big banks & corporations may have agreed to donate a certain % of allocated #TARP funds to #Dems

"May have."

I've left out the link -- only people using a clean computer (nothing of their own on it) should click on that, I'm thinking.

But that is the claim being made, that somehow some documents "prove" that TARP money was used to donate to Democratic PACs.

I don't know how you'd establish such a thing -- money is fungible.

Some are alleging an agreement to do this was struck.

Here's an excerpt. I cannot vouch for this being accurate information, or making an accurate implication:

I'll believe it when people who can view the documents and verify them tell me what they say.

Also see ZeroHedge. (h/t illiwinks)

Here's why they're calling this a pay-for-play list: For some reason, the list of donations from Wall Street and banks cross references those donations versus how much the firm received in TARP money.

Almost as if the DNC was keeping track if their Wall Street clients had kicked back amounts commensurate with the largesse the government had given them.

The tweet I posted did not have the column-identifiers included -- but apparently the last two columns were labeled "Donations" (or something like that) and "TARP funds received" (or something like that).

Why would politicians be comparing these two figures, except to decide if their beaks had been sufficiently wetted by the people they had given taxpayer monies to?

People have been saying that this is the kind of stuff the Clinton's were hiding when they deleted and purged all of their emails and servers.

Hillary opened up ALL of her extremely highly classified information to be hacked. In a sense, she just handed it over to them - it sounds like it didn't need to be "hacked" per se, just "found."

Because people are idiots about security.

If you are going to do something like that, it's on a non-networked computer, preferably with no wifi card installed, and you save it to a flashdrive that gets locked in a drawer, not to the hard drive.

But that's efforty.

139 Ace, outside of the very seriously encrypted classified systems for select government agencies (which Clinton & Co still easily circumnavigated themselves) the standard government IT structure is a joke. I have worked for multiple government agencies in an IT capacity and it is strung together with bubble gum and chicken wire. Imagine, if you will, an internet system created by forty or fifty different contractors, all working for the lowest bidder, all of them very possibly being yanked out mid-job every year with no turnover to their replacements. That is the structure that created and maintains the IT infrastructure for ONE COMMAND in the US Marine Corps.

Imagine that government-wide.

When the government cuts DoD funding, they cut civilian positions and reduce greensuits (active military.) That work still has to get done. So the remaining civilians and military turn to contractors, accept the lowest bidder, and we now have IT systems that work so badly that Marines in 29 Palms, California are making sixteen hops back to a single server in Virginia to access their shared drive. For non-techies, that means they sometimes can't access it for days.

I am flatly astounded that we get any work done at all. If civilians at large knew just how bad it was, they would be horrified at how much money is wasted to do so little so badly. It's sometimes hard to even get good IT employees and programmers because, and I quote, working under government restrictions would be like taking a tour of starving African children knowing you have a tanker ship of food you aren't allowed to give them.

Our big government and the big banks/wall street are one and same now. These companies are willing to play the game because it means protection from home grown competition, passes on new regulations, free trade deals that helps only them. and lots of cheap labor.

In 2012, Romney spent all day defending the glories of capitalism, while those "capitalist institutions" were helping put the rest of us into a socialist utopia. Notice how most of the big banks and corporations are happy to destroy free speech & gun rights, and strike a blow for social justice.

... "just because someone takes government assistance DOES NOT, under any circumstance, prevent them from participating in the political process. And as my Republican Friends Across the Aisle tell me time and time again ... Campaign Contributions are a Protected Form of Political Speech.

Now ... no decent American would ever think of denying the Right to Vote - that Most Sacred of Our Constitutional Rights - to someone just because they received Welfare, Unemployment, or Social Security. And again, as My Republican Friends always say ... Corporations are People Too.

So - as distasteful as allowing Big Corporate America to make Campaign Contributions is - until Republicans join me in removing Big Corporate Dollars from the political process - all I can do is obey the current rules of the game insisted upon by The Republican Party.

I look forward to the day when they'll join me and help eliminate the unfair influence of people like The Koch Brothers on American Politics"

255 It should be noted, however, that such documents could have been gotten from the Clinton Foundation. I will speculate -- without knowing -- that the Clinton Foundation could have had a lot of documents from other Democrats on their servers.

Though I have no idea if that's what happened.

As one who has been around the block in this this business, I can assure you, with 99.9% confidence, that someone who has shown such a cavalier disregard towards security as Clinton did as SoS, you can bank on the fact that every Foreign Intelligence Service in the world has attempted to hack the C. Yes, we wait for additional verification, but in the mean time, this duck is walking, quacking and dropping crap where ever it goes.

All separate entries, probably to keep the AUDIT flag from popping.

269 Comey failed in many ways, including by not making Clinton Cash Corruption the principal focus. Hillary's secret server was in furtherance of this bigger scheme. Otherwise, by itself, it lacked the gravitas to take down the Wannabe Queen.

Some crimes are easier to prove than others. Conspiracies can be difficult to prove without testimony from flipped minions.

What especially bothers me here is that there are specific statutes which prohibit public officials (and their relations) from getting anything of value from foreigners, many of which don't require prohibit proof of intent.

There were also several minions who could have been readily flipped. Instead they got free immunity.

Let's assume true. She wins but GOP retains Senate. The GOP should just demand that there will be no vote unless she nominates someone similar to Scalia to fill his seat. The people spoke - they basically want things to be status quo.

307 I attended mutliple fundraising events and made hundreds of fundraising calls and listened in on scores of fundraising calls between a person on this list and the banks, there was no deal. In fact why did I work so hard if there was a deal? Second, Dodd and Barney Frank basically ran Dodd Frank themselves. The banks had very little input. Third, the banks would regularly deny further donations if they didn't like the drift of the Rep's policy. So the idea that there was a deal, not true, I was there.

339 I ran for local office and investigated the way the Dems get financed. What you are seeing here is a tracking sheet for pushing money around to various campaigns in ways that allow the campaign contribution limits to be ignored.

For instance, if the maximum candidate D-1 can receive is $10k and Donor $-1 really really wants D-1 to win, then $-1 makes a deal with Donor$-2 to give candidate D-1 money and in exchange $-1 will donate to candidate or candidates that $-2 designates.

Of course such a system only works if someone is tracking the donations and making the deals, which the donors do NOT want to be caught doing.

That is why my local campaign saw maximum level donation from local labor *and* maximum donations from other labor group 3,000 miles away, which coincidentally had campaigns supported at maximum levels from the local labor...
So I went after the incumbent who was funded 20x times my donations and came within 3 points of beating him.
Imagine what the extra money could have done for me.
Apparently, the Dems did imagine...

Flake is such an idiot. "Nobody" believes that . . . except Barry Obama and Joe Biden -- but that's only what they believe when a Republican is president and doing the nominating. Their beliefs change, conveniently, when a Democrat is in the White House.

And no kidding it's all about politics, you dimwitted asswipe. Everything in D.C. is about politics, including the Supreme Court, its decisions, and its members.

309 I attended mutliple fundraising events and made hundreds of fundraising calls and listened in on scores of fundraising calls between a person on this list and the banks, there was no deal.

Posted by: bjk

Then how do you explain the obvious fact that there was a deal?

Yes Idjiot, that is a sweat deal for the big banks seeing as they alone can afford to play in such an environment. And they alone would hold sway on just how and when those supposedly new regs were validated and enforced.

Did you get dropped on your head repeatedly or just once from a great height?

347 The whole point of the "administrative state" is that the regs are really made and enforced by the regulatory agencies. So no, the politicians actually don't have that much authority. Second, the banks are suffering mightily under these new rules, if you don't believe me, just google "Dimon Bernanke skirmish" or look at the discount to book value of banks like Citi and Bank of AMerica. Or the fact that the CFPB exists.

I said this country is headed for civil war if we don't get this under control now (hence support for Trump)...I feel more confident each day that I am right.

Not happy to be right, but darn I cannot deny the existence of facts. Those that keep pretending we live in a normal America that only needs Marco Rubio's happy talk in 2020 to turn things around are the ones living in a false reality.

350 Clinton Foundation denying files are theirs, but they start with "there is no evidence of a Guccifer hack, no notification by law enforcement"

That sounds Clintonesque ... "there is no evidence I had a secret server", instead of, "I had no secret server".

Only time will tell, seems like a lot of effort for a gag.

It would be convenient to have all the banks listed in such a spreadsheet, which could be sorted by bank name column, and totals added up. Then see if that is about the same percentage of TARP money they got, for each bank.

Not all the banks wanted the money, but they didn't want to expose the weak ones, lest they be revealed as weak and their stock would be sold off. But they all profited from ZIRP for the last 8 years.

Oh the big banks hurt...
Which is why they are doing so well now and why their competitors died.

But do tell us all how wonderfully the Dems policies crippled the banks *AND* were good for the economy.
Square that circle for us.

And don't try to sell that BS about how politician have no sway over enforcement. We all know who was asleep at the switch in NY and then ended up on Obama's staff before running off to be large and in charge in Chicago.
The regulators ARE political animals once they reach a certain level. Those that aren't political never reach that certain level or are driven out.

yeah, that's a good point. But some may have been happy to have the competition out of business. On the other hand, some good smaller banks (State Street Bank, for example, as I recall) were solid and made responsible loans to their own customers, but they got bought with all that "free money" as the too big to fail or jails were encouraged to do so.

Lots of screwy stuff went on ... maybe the same with Lehman versus Bear Stearns, where the better one went "under", but I've forgotten all that. But we are now one the verge of the next bubble collapsing.

Smaller banks are different. I am talking about the big ones who are above the law, because of big government. Next time a bubble burst watch how politicians will give us the too big to fail argument again.

Like the laws of this country, the rules of free market capitalism apply to the unwashed masses, the big boys need not play by those rules. Cheap labor for us, tax payer bailouts for them...then a nice kickback to big government.

I wonder if the folks at National Review and Wall Street Journal will see the irony of being critical of people who don't want more cheap labor and free trade deals, while going all soft and "understanding" when another bailout debate comes.

Never let a crises go to waste...

TARP ended up being a slush fund used by the Fed Res Bank to consolidate their owners... ie... banks within their system.

We now have WAY fewer, larger banks, who each own MORE of the stock in the Fed Res Bank....

So the Board is now composed exclusively of people from large Banks... who will of course, enforce rules that give an advantage to large banks...

Posted by: Don Quixote at October 04, 2016 06:53 PM (qf6WZ)

362 yeah, I agree Don and William. I moved some cash to a local community bank, and have suggested others do that if they can. But indeed the big banks have advantages on credit cards and other things.

Guccifer 2.0 tweeted out ... "surprised the DCCC, etc. files were on the Clinton Foundation Server? stick with me, that is a tiny part of the files."

Hill.com had said the hack looked like from an old DCCC hack in like 2009. Guess we will see if he has more. Hard to say what they Foundation might have stashed away in files that never get cleaned out. Could get better ... he's ruining his reputation if it is just the old stuff.

363 The only way to stop this gravy train of corruption is to starve the
beast and halt payment of taxes by a large scale of Americans.

ONE. MORE. TIME.

Your taxes pay for state and local government. The Federal Government PRINTS the damned money. They don't need your money. Any taxes the feds take in are simply destroyed. If you pay in cash the money is simply burned. If you pay by check the money is subtracted from your checking account but the money is never deposited in some treasury account - it just vanishes into thin air. Research the subject, you'll find out I am correct.

When they print money it materializes the same way it disappears when they collect it. Bottom line a tax revolt against the Federal government can't work.
