The takeaway seems to be that Trump, despite his missed opportunities, appeared to be reasonable and electable/supportable. And the mission for the other side was to make him look like the opposite.

He didn't damage himself and she did not help herself. So, if you want to call that a "win" okay. Meanwhile, Empress Seizure did not win anyone over to her side, so at least that's something.

We were both disappointed.

Trump missed some opportunities but he came out fairly unscathed, which was the plan all along.

Sounds like he "won" by most snap polls. We'll see in the polling numbers later this week.

Many here seem to think that that Donald did not show up last night. But, I have a link above virtually all polls indicate Trump beat her handily. With the exception of CNN.

24 The only thing I saw last night was CBS for a bit afterwards. Dickerson invited Bob Scheifer and Mike Pence. Pence talked about DJT standing up to HRC's taking the low road towards the end; Dickerson went into attack mode trying to get Pence to get specific; Scheifer and Pence ignored him and talked generalities; and Dickerson looked like a puppy who got overenthusiastic. That was very interesting.

35 The debate did one thing. It pushed bar-tabs to a new high for the year. I sat with some really disgusted people. Our conversation about paper mache Halloween mask making was more heated than the big show. Breaking necks and spines was an underlying theme.

36 I watched as much as I could stomach, It was not fun. Donald was Donald, and Clinton looked and sounded rehearsed and fake. My honest assessment is that he started slow, then got few good points in, after that it sorta just went down hill. He sounded like he was just winging it, very much like in the Primary debates, she got under his skin and he spent too much time defending himself and going off subject. I think it's just hard to watch him because we are used to seeing two politicians debating each other using the same political language, and Donald is not a good orator in that sense. But that didn't matter in the primaries, and I remember as a Cruz supporter always being so shocked and pissed after the debates when Donald just kept winning in the polls, and then the primaries. Nothing is normal about this election, and as you can see this morning, once again even by most people's opinion, Trump didn't' do well, he's still won almost every internet poll and has come out and declared victory. I'm sure the dems thought they scored a homerun last night, and like many of us after several primary debates, they will be left scratching their heads when he goes up in the polls and not down.

from breitbart/Pat Caddell

"Like most debates, this debate did not shift the race. What it did do was show Trump as plausible, as a strong leader and more importantly that he cares about people," he said. "Trump really helped himself out tonight."

their poll showed Clinton winning, but shifted some undecideds and Indy's to Trump, which is what was needed

interesting

Two percent of voters, previously undecided, switched to Trump after the debate. No undecideds went to Clinton. One percent switched from Trump to Clinton, and one percent switched from Clinton to Trump.

"Trump won on the most critical factor, on whether Clinton or Trump was more 'plausible' as president, 46 percent to her 42 percent," he said.

"That for him is really what this debate was really about," he said.

This is what I felt. Like I said last night, he'll learn. And he'll adapt at the next.

Lester? a pos with the old sh*t, but some of it probably came across as petty from the MSM

See my link about "Old Coot." Shieffer said Trump didn't lose any ground and Clinton did not gain any. So status quo, which is good because Trump is peaking perfectly. Did he miss opportunities to have potentially sealed the deal? Absolutely. Maybe next time.

I understand being cautious. But the only thing a prevent defense prevents is winning. A little more boldness, backed up heavily with preparedness, would have gone a long way.

Next time.

39 Trump was ptetty restrained for Trump and I think it was very difficult for him it is simply not his nature. Hillz was mostlly robotic and scripted with her usual mean girls demeanor and I'm sorry but no woman her age should be doing the shimmy, much less in public. To me she was as usual smug and entitled. Very off-putting in the job interview. Advantage: Trump.

41 I thought she was plastic and it showed. Her economic knowledge was zilch, and while he didn't nail her it showed nonetheless. I was surprised he could hang with her on foreign affairs, even though Holt spent five minutes trying to blame him for the Iraq war.

It'll be interesting to see what the polling does. I'm expecting a little bump for her but not a big one. Then again, I thought Romney couldn't possibly lose to the worst President in history, so I'm sometimes wrong.

44 Look, on simple debate style, I think Hillary "won". She was smooth and had well rehearsed answers to the questions (did she already know what was coming, or just professional anticipation?).

Trump came across well. He did not get nasty and personal with her. He could have gotten harsher. The crowd was definitely pro-Hillary (so what?).

Trump's whole dialogue is counter to the typical, Democrat talking points. Of course, he did not sound as smooth as Hillary. Every answer she gave was basically the same as Al Gore gave in 2000, and John Kerry in 2004. At least she did not claim that the oceans would stop rising and the planet would heal if she was elected. The same answers that sound acceptable, but never work.

And if Trump ever gets serious about doing TV commercials. there are lots of things from Hillary's own remarks that can be used against her quite well. She has painted herself into the usual corner that Democrats do. Trump has to publically use her words against her, either in speeches or on TV.

Posted by: Bossy Conservative....outlaw in America at September 27, 2016 07:26 AM (S6Pax)

45 I liked Trump's comments on the minority communities. They seemed heart felt and spot on. He rightfully tied the conditions to democrats.

Hilldabeast reply could be boiled down to you're so critical and these are great people. The BLM issue is by her minefield. He needs to keep hitting her hard on this.

Why can't republicans insist on neutral, fair debate moderators? Thus drives me nutz!

Hillary really pushed the "Trump is a liar" versus the truth of her being pathological. So Alinsky. She played that all night, that and race and guns.

But the liar thing came up over and over, because Trump was winning against her with that. She is a liar, so she tries to muddy like the Clintons do. I hate them.

50 I had a dream last night that Trump tricked the devil in picking up a half-burned piece of wood with scripture on it.

And wouldn't you know it, once Hillary had it in her hands, and looked down adn realized what it was, she let out a terrible shriek (which actually sounds like her normal speaking voice) and was gone and America was great again.

So yeah Trump did 'meh,' but the subliminal messaging was unbelievable.

And then covered in the nightly news.

With audio.

53 It seems Trump won most polls handily, except CNN. Online polls are not "scientific", but they mean something.

People seem more aware of "fairness" than the MFM gives them credit for, imo, and if they are online they are more informed than average. So they perhaps recognized Holt not asking hard questions of Hillary, and playing along with her narrative on Trump.

The Trump Train momentum is real, and Hillary was her normal smug elitist, "why do I even have to be here" self. In a change election, and trust in media at a 32% all time low, advantage still goes to Trump.

The "hard questions" should now be off the table, like going back 40 years for a lawsuit. Trump was up on FOX at 7AM after being up last night till 2AM ... Hillary went home early in the Scooby van, and will probably keep avoiding press conferences till next year. Sleep well Hillary.

68 I'm sure it's been said, many times, many ways, debates are like boxing matches.

If you want "your" guy to score a knockout at the opening bell, and he doesn't do that, how to you gauge what DID happen?

Any fight is both offense and defense. This is Round One. Did your guy NOT score a knockdown? Did the other guy? If not, then the judges will score it either 10-9 for one or the other, or an even 10-10.

Let's see what happens in Round Two.

At the end of the day, why are the Republicans choosing these people, it happens almost every day debate. They behave like Lester Holt behaved tonight and then they're shocked. It happens every time, it is frustrating to watch this thing happen.

75 Well can't wait to see what Beck has to say about the debate. Thank goodness Breitbart is on the salvage crew. I can't believe how many times I cringed and groaned out loud. I should have gotten shitfaced, it might have helped. He's so egotistical. I hate it when he starts telling everyone how everyone loves him and then gives examples like he's writing a high school term paper.

It's going to be fascinating watching her movements. People may think it doesn't matter, but it does. She's not going to win the White House, if she works a few hours one day, then takes then next nine days off.

78 NRO is pretty uniformly, "OMG, Trump was awful and sucked worse than anything has ever sucked before," but that's par for the course.

I'm generally with NRO that Trump is not a conservative and appalling; but they've become such a Johnny-One-Note about it that they've become Breitbart-in-Reverse. Like Breitbart is Trumpbart and NRO is Anti-Trumpbart and if we could just lock them together in the space between universes to fight for all eternity the internet would be a better place.

79 deplorable@votermom It is 100% true. There was so much detail to the dream it was ridiculous. It was set in a small town in Ohio. The town was experienced every sort of decay and couldn't figure it out. No one knew what Trump was up to. He baited Hillary into picking up the piece of wood by saying she lacked the strength to do so. And as we know, the Devil is a prideful beast.

After Hillary was dead, the town experienced an economic miracle. new buses, new trains, commerce and smiling faces everywhere.

I posted to see if anyone else had a similar experience. Scott Adams predictions and analysis of Trumps persuasion makes me think it is possible.

80 I thought last night was awesome. DJT didn't bodyslam her when he had the chance, but if he had we would be hearing all morning about what a dick he is.

And even more importantly, the wandering Bernie-bots at Hofstra would have sympathy cried with Hillary over the mean old white man.

He gets a C- with an extra 10 points for coming out of the gate early on jobs and economy for the benefit of Joe Sixpack who went to sleep 15 minutes in.

Hillary's communist screeching was so bad my wife left the room last night after saying " she sounds like a WITCH" .

His numbers will continue to rise as Hillary cuts her own throat with no help at all.

83 Listening to Stefan Molyneux's analysis of the debate now. The guy Stefan is talking to made an interesting point. A lot of us expected Trump to destroy Hillary and because he didn't put her away it made us think he lost the debate which he didn't. I don't think this was Trump's best performance but I don't think he hurt himself either. I would say it was a draw which is amazing considering Trump was debating two people.

I heard another interesting point on the local radio on the way to work this morning. The caller said Hillary used up all her best attack lines in this debate and doesn't have anything left. Apparently James Carville essentially had the same take as this caller.

So all in all I do feel a little better this morning about it.

Posted by: Independent George (subscribes to the worlds theory) at September 27, 2016 07:42 AM (BDZWU)

84 Trump certainly could have been more focused and not stray off on tangents. It appears there was no debate training on his part.

Now having said that, it is absolutely clear that there was coordination between Lester Holt and the Clinton Campaign. Holt was completely aware of Clinton's every attack point and often provided third party support for them.

Trump's attacks, or in reality defense, was not supported by Holt in any way. This was especially clear during the Clinton birther attack when Trump rightly charged members of the 2008 Hillary campaign for starting it, even providing names. Yet Holt did not dig into it, nor provide support by agreeing with this freely available information.

Essentially this debate was a complete travesty, the more I reflect upon it, the more I think the "debates" should be done away.

Holt behavior was as if he had a list of Clinton bullet points to provide secondary backup. It appears especially true of the Clinton attacks. Again I'll point out that Trump provided specific names during the birther response, well known information, but did Holt turn to Clinton and fact check her and say "your campaign did start it in 2008".

146 Romney's defeat was what made me lose all faith in America. Here we had a country with a failing economy and dysfunctional Government, and a guy running for president whose entire career was based on turning around failing enterprises.

And he lost because his opponent started a rumor that was going to outlaw tampons.

Romney lost because:
1. He let the other side define him.
2. He didn't show any fight and let Obama beat up on him.
3. Showed the typical level of concern for working Americans as the rest of the uniparty. (NONE)
4. Was so good at running things that his GOTV effort crashed on election day.
5. Being a turn around guy plays into the optics of only laying people off. Had he actually had a couple of companies that he started from the ground floor, he could have played up that side.

My biggest complaint about Trump's debate performance was his failure to skewer her on her own poor cybersecurity and her corrupt charity's pay to play.

During the middle portion Holt was allowing her way more uninterrupted time and Trump didn't jump in to challenge her more egregious lies.

Trump did very well to cite specific Rust Belt states -- Michigan, Ohio and Pennsylvania -- as having lost under NAFTA and to tag TPP as Hillary's version of NAFTA, only worse.

But I sincerely hope he improves before the next debate. He wasted a lot of time and missed some opportunities to not only hammer 'Illary, but put some actual rhetoric behind his campaign.

The flub that pissed me off the most was the question on Cybersecurity. 'Illary went first and said she had 2 points to address the challenges. All Donald had to do going second was say: I agree with the 2 points by Madame secretary and I'll add a third -and hammer her and the rest of the administration on the demonstrated inability to follow the rules laid out by the federal government re: data security. No personal e-mail accounts to do work, no outside consultants raiding the OPM database.

He had a real chance to hammer Hillary and state that he was going to bring 'real change' to the way government was run -having it follow the standards and practices enforced in the private sector and then some...

instead we got 2 minutes of his endorsements by the military: don't care and 1 minute about his 10 year sone: again don't care.

sorry, had to get that off my chest, was bothering me all night.

And your statement reveals where the real battle is - in the schools for the hearts and minds of the next generation of children.

Politics, and really society as a whole, is all downstream from that. Bill Ayers (pig piss be upon him) knew it and we are reaping what he and others have sown for the last 40-plus years.

I think while we have to stanch the bleeding at the surface, the deeper infection must be cured at all costs. Somehow, some way.

Must be done.

212 It just occurred to me that at the debate last night, for the first time that I can remember, it was the Dem that appeared out of touch and the Republican that appeared to have sympathy for the common guy.

Also, I'm glad Trump didn't step into any feminist landmines that would have the feminazis in a tizzy today. In fact it's Hillary who got deductions for bringing up her husband's accomplishments.

Posted by: Deplorable @votermom at September 27, 2016 08:26 AM (Om16U)

213 Trump did well at pinning Hillary down on TPP, quoting correctly that she called it the "gold standard" for trade deals (gold for the global elite, he might have added, bad for America).

And he pointed out she was for it till she saw Trump against it, then completely flipped, and stated she would approve it quickly if she won, which she didn't resist, iirc.

He wins big on trade, he wins big on immigration. She calls all white people systemically racist, and acts of contrition are not enough, only open borders can save whitey. Which is especially crazy as that hurts blacks and inner cities. Hurts them by stealing the jobs, and in some areas like Compton, by gang warfare.

215 To paraphrase President Obama, 'You go all Bulworth on their ass' and
tell the African-American community exactly what's going on: Democratic
Party policies are deliberately designed to keep black people poor,
angryand unemployed so that they can be more easily manipulated to vote
for the Democratic Party. It's a very easy case to make.

-------------

It's the truth and the right thing to do. However, in the world of politics is there enough immediate election-related ROI to focus on the Big Lie? Especially considering that so many blacks benefit from it's perpetuation?

Trump's job was to show up, not say anything catastrophically stupid or incendiary, and look presidential. Hillary's job was not to keel over deadon stage or lapse into a state of Parkinson's-induced, wall-eyedcatatonia. That hopefully gets through to him, is why he needs the prep, even if he knows the answer. Undecided voters have jelly for brains, and he can't meander like he does for his rallies. Even if he hits a good point, if he muddies it up with superfluous fluff, the jelly brains will miss the point, or Holt will interrupt.

And if he knows the segments to say pointedly, he can use the active part of the brain for more strategy. But still, people want change not a political robot ... but focus would still help.

Disband the teacher's unions, along with all other public sector unions. The reasoning for doing so is solid: The truly interested party, the taxpayer, is not represented in negotiations. Unelected officials choosing to give other unelected government employees raises, without any input by legislature in the matter is taxation without representation.

The sad thing about "racism" in America is that it pales in comparison to that of most countries on earth.

In this country, an off-color joke is the subject of weeks of "national conversation," but in many countries it is institutional and violent.

But we are the racists.

.They are not allowed to transfer calls to anyone else, everything must be handled in house. That is the way Congress wrote the law.

That is slowly changing though. I now have a card that I can use if the VA can't get me an appointment within a 30 day window. The problem is, no one I can find will accept that card. The reimbursement the VA pays out when I have to use that card, is the same amount of $$$ as Medicaid but according to my Doctor they take six or more months to get reimbursed and the paperwork costs more than my Doctor visit.

It also had the smallest number of participants - only 521.
The other online polls were all in the thousands, some in the hundreds of thousands.

The reasoning for doing so is solid: The truly interested party, the

yeah, and cancel all those ill gotten golden early retirement pensions. It is pretty direct quid pro quo, when Dems are bribed and they get teachers that can't be fired, retiring at 55 open ended promises on pensions. Of course they also escape any anti-trust laws somehow, so as with Chicago in 2012, can shut down the whole school system as leverage for even more raises, with no relation to accomplishment.

As one Obama Dem suggested, hang a few in public, so the others learn to behave.

But how they can actually transition out of the college to grave teacher golden pathways, is beyond me, short of prosecuting them all for bribery. In IL the courts overruled a little moderation to the pensions, which were illegally not funded fully for decades. (if they had, bad budgets would have been exposed early, Democrats would have lost power)

RNC Knocks Debate Moderator With Top 10 List Of Things Hillary Wasn't Asked

The list went as follows:

The 5 Aides Given Immunity By The FBI Or Her Reckless Secret Server

The Multiple False Statements About How Her "Extremely Careless" Actions Endangered Our National Security

Her "Basket Of Deplorables" Insult Toward Millions of Americans

Clinton Foundation Pay To Play Accusations

Her Failures And Lies On The Attacks In Benghazi

Her Support For Obamacare

Her Deep Support From And Ties To Wall Street

Veterans Affairs Scandal She Arrogantly Called "Not Widespread"

Her Comments About Wanting To Put The Coal Industry Out Of Work

Her Deception And Lack Of Transparency On Her Health

Leave them all to the last debate and hammer them in just before the election.

If even a few of these were brought up, she'd be done. So the MSM is afraid to do it. She would lose, today.

323 Hillary hit Trump hard; bothered him much more than he was able to do to her.

But, in the end, that was expected.

What the voters who 1st tuned in saw was, "You've been at this for 30 years and you're just now thinking about it?"

The other line, I think that will last, is when Trump agreed she had plenty of experience, bad experience.

Trump was not talking or debating for us, his audience is the blue-collar workers in PA, OH, IA, NC and MI--Hillary offered them nothing last night, Trump gave voice to their 20 year complaints.

Hillary knows that's the battlefield, that's why she kept talking about her dad.

I keep telling them and their mothers that they need to BE READY at 5:35. Somehow, they can't manage it, come up with other boys to be picked up on the way, the parents don't bother to show up for the return trip as if I'm a school bus, they don't bother with "thank you", aren't even conversational, and are generally not a pleasant association. 336 Morning, all!

So this is what I think happened: Hillary got the questions in advance (like Obama obviously did in 2012 Candy Crawley debate), and doing her best Tracy Flick, prepared answers that had all sorts of specific statistics and facts (like the the details on Trump's business dealings, architect's name, etc.). Then, at the last minute she convinces them to do "fact-checking" and feeds all of her carefully-prepared stats and facts to the networks - thus, doing their work for them.

Trump, not being prepared in the same manner (nor even having the questions in advance), was not brimming with facts and stats. Let's face it, that's not his style to begin with.

Gawd, I hate Hillary.

I'd probably go with treating it as an learning experience for the kids. You keep expecting them to be ready on time. If they're not little kids, they can probably get themselves ready and read a clock. Well, at least a digital clock.

Don't drive off without them, but keep emphasizing what you expect.

In theory, some of them might get better about it.

Reach out to the parents first and explain that if they are ready, of course they can have a ride; but if they are not, the driver has to move on so ALL the kids aren't late. I'll bet right now that the parents are not really aware, but a courtesy call works wonders and will help for teaching teamwork for all the kids. Plus, the courtesy call to other parents keeps future lines open. At least, that is how I used to do it.

381 >>I'm not sure that Hillary got the questions in advance last night. She
probably memorized small speeches on every possible topic.

After reading a sampling of the DNC email leaks I am certain Hillary got the questions. Most in the MSM are working hand in hand with the DNC.
DWS had the power to not only tell MSNBC what to broadcast, including operatives texting talking points to people like Mika while on air, but they had the power to demand they shut down a segment while it was airing. And then there's the DNC fingerprints all over certain questions, such as when George Stephanopolous asked the GOP candidates about birth control weeks before Obama rolled out the contraceptive mandate in 2012.

Even if you don't believe this was done formally, the networks are infested with enough fellow travelers for one of them to do it on the sly. Holt's intern makes an extra copy of the questions, passes it on to someone who gets it to Hillary's team.

And everyone but Trump and his supporters knew what the media would do the instant he clinched the nomination. So it's not fair to treat it as if its a surprise.

However, the lovely and perceptive Mrs naturalfake, who is not political at all, called it an outright victory for Trump, becuz-

1) Trump was more likable and approachable. She found Hillary! to be off-putting and a bit bitchy.

2) She thought Trump did better with his explanations and details(!). Hillary! sounded just like she was spewing campaign slogans(she was) and generalities.

3) Trump obviously wasn't selling himself to voters like me, who already liked what they saw enough previously to vote for him.

This was about reaching people who don't know him or only know his reputation by commercials.

She thought he did this well.

The beautiful and intelligent Mr naturalfake is a very good people-person,

still I thought she might've gotten this one wrong.

But, as the after-debate polls show, she was spot on.

Check your state and local laws but if it is being converted to a salvage title it is not an important part of the transaction.

If on the other hand you do not trust it is being converted to a salvage title then I'd be more concerned as "depending on your state" the state could in theory say you were a party to fraud.

Ohio was trying to bust my dad over his Honda Gold Wing, saying they did not believe he picked it up for 1750 as the bike is worth x yadda yadda yadda.

He had his lawyer send the Ohio BMV a letter reminding them most Gold Wings don't have 275,000 miles and a complete engine rebuild factored in.

So obviously only white Americans don't understand this "systemic racism", and we are deplorable, irredeemable unless we confess white privilege and vote for open borders. Since only becoming a minority and giving up what our white ancestors stole and got by slavery ... can save us. (but even that won't work for the Trump irredeemable)

Hillary had a mediocre debate and was obviously carried through by prep - the sort of prep that prepared her for the small range of topics that might come up and that Trump should have had too. There is no need for a conspiracy theory.

Trump is simply arrogant and intellectually incurious and thus has no interest in prepping for a debate. And it showed.

And yes, Holt favored Clinton, which a GOP candidate has to be ready for. When Trump led him to the e-mail issue, he asked Clinton about it.

1) The entire evening was a set-up to attack Trump personally, hence no mention of emails; Benghazi
( Hillary had a disgruntled architect in the audience..seriously? what about the Benghazi survivor who was there?) It was ridiculously focusing on the minutiae of Trump's life while ignoring all the elephants in the room. To Trump's credit, he kept trying to steer the debate back to the actual issues.
2) Hillary is not one who thinks quickly on her feet and surprise attacks make her literally run-away, yet she was amazingly smug the entire evening - as if she knew before-hand it would be a night of tag-team event to throw personal attacks at Trump...that shw would receive softballs and not have to respond to any charges and not have to tell the truth.

Also, watch her closely at the next debate or go back over the video from this one: she starts out glowing and smiling and she frequently veers into harridan territory , then back to glowing and smiling. Are the meds wearing off? Is something being administered over time and it kicks in every now and then? It's odd how her physical features can change so extremely.

The point is that you are still pining for a perfect, pure candidate that does not exist.

Romney was flawed.

Mentioned upthread. HRC was able to use her female privilege to get custom podium and lectern and then use female privilege to wear a bright red suit.
Next time, demand blue, black or gray suits only for costuming.

Yes, people do change. Reagan had clear, articulate reasons for his change that corresponded to cultural developments and shifts within the parties. He explained them cogently and demonstrated a firm grasp on Conservative principle.

Trump changed because... well, he never really tells us. In reality, its because he wanted to run for President. And he still retains all the instincts and opinions of a New York Dem.

I was thinking this last night. I think the only thing she didn't mention was Trump University, whereas he pretty much still has a lot of legitimate ammo to use against her.It was interesting to watch various talking heads last night, but the general consensus was that Hillary's goal was to shore up her base, which she desperately needed to do. Her message was the delusional same-old-same-old Democrat ideas, nothing new, which is not a good thing; she needed to convince the Dem fence straddlers, and they all pretty agreed she didn't do that.
Tucker Carlson was on with some Democrat, and he just kept laughing at the guy's analysis. Carlson basically said, whatevs, Trump's gonna win.
