The Non-Debate The Education Overnight Open Thread Edition

Liberty cannot be preserved without a general knowledge among the people.
-President John Adams

Instead of teaching multicultural crap, social justice, and self-esteem. Why not teach thermodynamics?

When I was a child......As long as you live under my roof.... Oh, the parents of today are a different lot.

Scientists, have they lost our trust? The fat, cholesterol and sugar studies gives one doubt. Now Valu-Rite. Say it aint so.

Global warming is another. An older news link. But worth reading, digesting and perhaps discussing. For example did you know we spend more money on "climate change" than we do on border security?

Moar science. Or why donuts of any variety are better for you than crystal meth.

Why teach economics when you can learn to care about Brad and Angelina?

(NSFW-Language, you have been warned)

Preserved Nazi time capsule unearthed in Poland. Some one cared about history.

Are you teaching your children to become stewards of the earth? After reading this guide how many of you have failed in teaching?

The laws of unintended consequences.

So Horde is he on to something or is he just full of himself? Seems to me since the dawn of recorded history mankind always wanted something better. Is the problem secular humanism? Is the love of money the root of all evil?

I struggle with the fact that I helped create this contemporary consumer culture.

And at the same time, I’m repulsed by it, disturbed by it. The reality is we are all actual humans, we live in a material world where material beauty brings us a certain level of enjoyment in our lives, but we can’t let it overtake that. …

When will Civics classes teach Socialism does not work? Even Democratic Socialism as espoused by Crazy Uncle Bernie.

What have we learned about self-driving cars?Autonomous cars can be hacked.

Multiple diseases such as polio and malaria have been controlled. The life expectancy of men and women have increased. Why is the mortality rate in the U.S.A. sliding?

Education requires books. You can be a bookstore owner, with a catch.

Text book authors with a sense of humor.

Add water makes it's own sauce.

Modern science meets Mother Nature.

Genius Award.

Feel good story of the day There shouldn't be a shortage of all that pumpkin spice crap hitting store shelves now.

Try this. Cheaper than online dating, safer than Craiglist friendships.

The problem is that they are BOUGHT.

The whole "fat" thing is the result of the fucking sugar industry succeeding in demonizing fat and then ducking out of the way.

And NASA's big Europa news: Europa is spewing huge water jets from the surface, going as high as 125 miles above the surface. Since it's spewing so much water, this will make drilling down to detect organic compounds (signs of life in the subsurface ocean) unnecessary. A probe can sample the jets.

No effect at all. Zero.

Debates don't change minds. Nobody cares about them. They're a spectacle but nobody watches a debate and goes "you know what? I was wrong about that guy, no he has my vote!"

In the end, Hillary is gonna win, I can feel it in my spleen. I won't get optimistic or hopeful, because that always ends in misery.

Frankly, Trump did relatively WELL in the GOP primary debates.

88 No effect at all. Zero.
************************

Actually, Romney moved ahead 4 points to overtake Obama in the RCP average after the first debate. Then he sucked the mighty ass of Crowley and that was the end of that.

Even then, I read a study of the impact debates have on polls going back a half century, and that Romney's bounce was really a temporary result of his base finally getting energized about him,but then his polls waned back to where it was prior to the first debate. So even if Crowley hadn't sliced his balls, chances are it wouldn't have made a difference.

In almost all cases, the the polls shifts from debates rarely made a difference as to who won the election.

I believe scotch is one of those acquired tastes, yes? Seems to make sense, and I can readily see how there'd be many variations of style and quality of the sort that would make it a good taste to acquire and explore.
Haven't had the chance to acquire it (not to worry, wine and beer and other hard stuff has been regularly checked out over the years, mostly to make sure it was safe for others, of course).
Other day I had some Glenlivet 12-yr old. I don't know where that ranks, but believe it's somewhat above the Valu-Rite equivalent level.
Was pretty good, smooth - enjoyable for a novice.

Tough path you've chosen there. I know a guy who has devoted much of his life to the concept of the Perfect Manhattan.

It should have just rye, red vermouth, and bitters. You can certainly add the cherry, but don't bother if it's from those supermarket jars.

Red vermouth selection is critical. I have not made a study of the Manhattan, but I would guess that Dolin would be decent, Punta a Mes would be a lot better, and Carpano Antico would be either perfect or a bit much.

For bitters, Agnostura is universal, but I'm not much of a fan. Bitter Truth, maybe.

For Rye, not sure. A good manhattan should have bite. At the least, Rittenhouse 100, not that ubiquitous rye whose name I am forgetting at the moment.

Don't use the prepared seasoning, experiment with your own. Keep lab grade notes.

223 Being in Texas, I've had countless bowls of chili without beans. Damn good stuff, most of 'em.

A few, with more spice than sense, but most were flavor festivals of the finest order.

But to the entire gourmand experience? Damn few of those chilis wouldn't have benefited by the judicious blending of a suitable quantity of beans.

Doesn't just affect the flavor. But entirely enhances the texture, satisfaction, "fullness" and just the overall sense of "aaaahhhhhh", after polishing off a hearty bowl of the red.

And crumbling in a few stacks of Saltine Crackers?

Dear Gawd, you just ain't lived to you put all those together into one single bowl of bliss.

I respect the Chili Purists. And Chili contests MUST BE sans beans. It's the only true measure of the bowl.

But for EATING, then bring on the beans n' crackers.

Oh, and some graded cheddar cheese, and few cans of good beer.

Might die bloated, but you'll die happy.

As usual, I'm in agreement with you, rhomboid. We are far more informed than the not-yet-persuaded voter who was watching this debate. I am guessing that voter will be more inclined as a result of this debate to vote for the candidate who was running for President of the United States and not for the one who was running for President of NATO, Black Lives Matter, Japan, or whatever. Trump was saying ridiculous things about keeping the oil and there wouldn't have been an ISIS, which we know to be ridiculous (or at least conflating two completely different things, Iraq's oil production and Syria's oil production in ISIS-held areas), but there is a kernel of truth there that to a person who is not that well-informed sounds like, well, he's on the side of our country and she isn't. He's on the side of law and order and she isn't. He's against the Federal Reserve and she isn't. I think on the whole, Trump comes out the winner among those who have not yet made up their minds.

And a good chili will *welcome* your additions, and not be judgmental about 'em.

Food is about celebration, not exclusions.

Down that path, lie "foodies", whole foods stores and vegetarians.

Caesar, pretty much. I'm going with the assumption that the most important thing for You Know Who tonight was to *not* be the caricature the Dems/NPR-listeners/high-disinformation voters of all education levels think/want/have been conditioned to expect.

I'm guessing (guessing, mind you) that this objective was achieved.

In the overall context of this campaign - meaning mood/desires of the country, as well as idiosyncracies/strengths/weaknesses of the candidates - tonight did not help the incumbent party, probably. The public polling, when seen in context and esp. with an eye towards weightings, is currently disastrous for one side.

270 So, today I partitioned the SSD for Looking Glass 2, installed Ubuntu, and received a pleasant surprise -- both bcache and xen are now in the repos! They'll be updated regularly and automatically and they'll be from a recognized source instead of some guy's webpage or github.

Unfortunately, that also means that the installation methods I researched on the internet are >50% crap because I have no idea which parts apt did or didn't do. It'll probably take me more time to figure out their status than making them an apt package has saved me.

Tomorrow's little bit of joy will be plugging in the 4 2T disks and configuring as RAID5. Doing RAID5 in the kernel means that you get to be cognizant of a peculiarity of RAID on block devices -- all 4 devices have to be the same size. If you have four devices of 65,536 blocks, and the four have zero, one, two, and six bad blocks, you can RAID5 on 65,530 blocks -- and will have these weird little stubbies of four, five, or six blocks on three of your drives. I'm thinking that, depending on how they look, these'd be good for stuff like print queues. This also means that you couldn't do a RAID rebuild with a replacement disk with 65,529 blocks, so I may be conservative on this.

Once the RAID array gets built, I get to bcache it. Only then do I get to start populating it with virtual machines under Xen.

In case you're wondering why I didn't just LVM for vm's, like everyone is saying to do -- if a RAID5 disk goes foom, you can hot-swap and rebuild it; if an LVM disk goes foom, everything in that volume group is toast. "Oh, but it's only vm's -- you can just respawn another!" -- except that this is intended to be the place you respawn other vm's FROM.

Political pros say 3 I's, in that order: Identification, Image, and Issues. Low-information voters will vote first for the candidate they can identify over the one they have never heard of (not likely in this case), then if they've heard of both of them, they vote on image, and only if that's a push will they vote on issues. Here the task is to win on image. Voters liked Obama's image over McCain's and Romney's. Hillary was trying desperately tonight to make Trump the out-of-touch rich guy. I don't think it worked. Trump was trying to make himself the American in the room. I think it worked, to a certain extent. She won the debate on appearing smarter and more well-prepared, but I don't know that she won a lot of votes in the end, because she seemed to be like the know-it-all kid nobody likes (remember, Image trumps Issues). Trump wasn't big on details, but he understood the big picture and conveyed that image.

A non-chili chili recipe I've grown to like is a slow-cooker veggie chili. Partly because it's so easy, partly because it's pretty good, and I make a large batch, and refrigerate/freeze quite a bit, so it goes a long way.

Combo of fresh and canned veggies (sometimes I'll grill the corn before slicing into the mix). I usually hydrate/puree some dried chiles (guajillo or mulato) and use lots of fresh herbs from the yard. Anyway, it's very easy to make and remarkably good, and versatile (goes well with rice, or pasta, or by itself, or the usual additions being discussed above.

It's been 10 or more years since I could begin to understand what passed for thinking among a huge swathe of the electorate, but I'm cautiously optimistic that class warfare (of the stupid, stale, tax-centric Dem sort) and race-baiting and implicit/explicit hostility to law enforcement - not to mention slimy passive-aggressive allegations of racism - are not going to go over all that well this time.

I could be wrong.

Based solely on logic and reasonable assumptions about the advice he's getting, I'm thinking T-Rump's Prime Directive tonight was Do Not Come Across As a Bully or A**hole. To the point of leaving those jaw-dropping hanging curve balls (cybersecurity, etc.) alone.

Yes it's frustrating to not see this absurd, offensive candidate Clinton get reamed and humiliated in public, but this is what the country is down to. Recall the strategizing - real, and head-shaking but logical - back in 2012 about gently "nudging" 2008 Obama voters to change sides, without "humiliating" or "offending" them. Just nauseating that the electorate and civic culture is SO degraded that this approach was tactically sensible, but there we are.

And I also put beer in the veggie chili. Overall, damn good flavor, though making sure there's not too much heat from the guajillos or mulatos or anchos is always tricky, as the things vary individually in their capsaicin content.

In case you're wondering why I didn't just LVM for vm's, like
everyone is saying to do -- if a RAID5 disk goes foom, you can hot-swap
and rebuild it; if an LVM disk goes foom, everything in that volume
group is toast. "Oh, but it's only vm's -- you can just respawn
another!" -- except that this is intended to be the place you respawn
other vm's FROM.

Sometimes, when I'm feeling naughty, I build LVM devices on top of RAID 5 arrays.

It might also be noted that I'm building Looking Glass 2 before Looking Glass 1 because LG1 had a drive failure that I haven't dealt with yet.

I remember seeing some people looking for "more detail" on some speech that was already borderline too long. I could only think "Just HOW LONG do you want to sit and listen to a speech!?!"

As it is, any chief executive is supposed to do the vision, direction, and leadership, NOT all the gory details. That's called "micromanaging".

The difference between the Democrat mind and a mind like ours is that their amygdalas, the part of the brain that senses threats, are broken. Because they don't sense threats, they simply can never see the downside, exploits, loopholes, or fatal flaws in any idea they have. They're basically stuck on: Everything is wonderful, it'll be the best thing ever, if you just try it!

Meanwhile we see a thousand ways that it's doomed to fail, and dig in our heels and go "Nope!". So this means we're bad and wrong and evil, naturally. Yeah, we're the Party of No. When everything the other side wants is half-baked insanity, you need to say no, and you need to say it a lot.

The Looking Glass computers are meant for a weird forensic purpose -- they each have five gigabit ethernets -- "internet", C, M, Y, and K. They each have an SSD and four 2T drives as a RAID5 array. And they're meant to both store prototypes for and host virtual machines, to be used to pick apart potentially compromised disks from all the computers that were "live" when I had keylogging malware dropped on me.

Quite a bit of this is due to Western Digital forcing all their NAS to SAMBA (because their NFS implementation wasn't secure). Classic Trump. He was very upset that nobody has called Hannity as they used to discuss his opposition to the war. It was funny hearing him repeatedly say "I tell them to call Hannity" "nobody calls Hannity".

On FOX right now Pad Cadell is currently on talking about how he used to talk to Trump and that he was opposed at the time. Dines he D'Souza is on now saying he won on points and not appearing crazy.

I pretty much agree with that.

Nothing "big" happened as far as I could tell.

Someone said in one of the earlier threads that Trump was stronger in the beginning, and that might be significant. Only political junkies watched the whole thing, while the LIVs probably tuned out after a while.

Hillary (since no one's mentioned it) did not pass out on stage.

Trump (since no one's mentioned it) did not say "taco bowl" or "Sieg Heil!"

Both of 'em did their expected thing, open to interpretation by each side.

Send an email to the designated place. Show your IP and previous hash. Explain how you found out, but you don't believe it to be you. Good luck!

BTW, I've been in a number of hotels where AoSHQ was banned by IP. You can try to VPN out from under that, but a bunch of VPNs are banned, as well (probably all of the free ones and half of the purchased ones -- you can probably VPN back to your home systems and get around the hotel's banning, but that takes some investment).

Agree except for the last part. If he put her away tonight it might make the next debate expectations to high. Remember Romney did great at the first debate.

After he and his team kept talking about how he could have said something horrible to hurt her at the end but he didn't want to because Chelsea was there. 407 OK, tech geeks, can anyone answer me this?

I have an iPhone that basically has no screen. It was dropped from a moving car, screen shattered into a quadrillion pieces and mostly fell off. I found it in the gutter.

I was able to extract the SIM card, put it into a functioning iPhone, and thereby find out what the broken iPhone's phone number USED to be. I called it, and someone in Virginia answered and said that months ago they had indeed dropped and lost an iPhone, but in the interim they moved back east and got a newer iPhone anyway and no longer cared about this one so I could have it. Click. Fine.

So now I have this screenless iPhone. Eventually, I suppose, I'll sell it for parts or give it away or whatever, but out of curiosity I began to wonder: Is there any way to "see" what's happening on the iPhone if I were to connect it to some other electronic device?

Oh, I forgot to mention:

Despite not having a screen, it still seems to "work"! Because I was able to recharge it, then press the "on" button, and the phone occasionally vibrated as if the iOS was operating "inside" and was sending error messages or notifications or whatever, and the system was set to "vibrate." But without a screen I can't see what it's trying to tell me.

I know that with computers a person can (or used to be able to) connect one computer to another in "slave mode" so that you can see the slave computer's "screen" as a window within the OS of the "master" computer.

Is a similar thing possible with iPhones? If I plugged the screenless iPhone into another intact iPhone, or into a desktop computer, is there some way I could "see" what's on the "screen" of the broken iPhone?

It's actually the exact inversion of a recent study from a year or three ago. The authors decided that conservative politics were due to people having overactive amygdalas and seeing threats in everything. The reverse conclusion is even more profound. Leftist politics exist because their people simply can't see threats that actually do exist.

Another pertinent study had the amygdala being disabled in mice. They'd go sauntering into a room full of cat pee, which makes normal mice flee in terror. Combine the two... and you understand the Left. All of the warning signs are there, but because of their lower-than-average function, they simply can't see it, or don't view it as a real problem.

Posted by: Cato the Rebel Without a Party at September 27, 2016 02:05 AM (J+mig)

412 >> From what little I listened, Trump talked about
>> himself too much, and Hillary was just her usual,

It's far too easy to bait Trump into long-winded responses.

Then the press gets to sit there like a motorcycle cop watching his word salad go by at 20 over the limit, then they'll pull a phrase over and throw the book at it.

He should have a list of one-line responses to common 'noise' questions like the birther thing, and above all he should stick to them.

The other problem Trump has in a format like this is that he seems almost allergic to details.

That load of bullshit about economic growth Holt led with at the beginning of the event could easily have been countered (lowest rate of new business creation in thirty years, more businesses folding than opening, lowest rate of IPOs since the '80s, etc.) by a candidate with a handle on a few details.

Holt served up a slow softball pitch over the middle of the plate on the cybersecurity thing, and Trump didn't even take a swing. This is the kind of thing where a Ted Cruz would have rattled off a list of all the Federal laws and regulations Hillary and her crew violated.

Posted by: Pepe, The Irredeemable at September 27, 2016 02:07 AM (XGrlW)

415 And when you combine the inability to see threats, and couple it with a long history of observation of Leftism (back from the days when they used to call themselves Freethinkers)...

Just about everything about the Left is explainable through their lack of normal fear, coupled with their fundamental ideological error - the idea that there is no objective truth where human causes and events are concerned.

I think we need to go to an unmoderated style. Rock paper scissors to see who goes first. (The opposite one goes last, and both positions have advantages). Each candidate gets ten minute blocks. First candidate gets to lead off. Second candidate rebuts and adds ideas. First candidate rebuts and adds more. Second candidate goes again.

Each 10 minute speaking bloc is to be broken up by the sound of a 10 second peal from a foghorn. Loud enough to drown them out. After the foghorn, the candidate may not speak again until it is their turn.

The debate will progress in such a manner until allotted time is used up. No pre-arranged questions, no questioners, just the two candidates, actually setting the agenda themselves and debating what issues they bring up.

Obama was not better at talking policy the Hillary but he was more likeable. GWB was not better at policy and talking points then Kerry but he was more likeable. Today FOX business had someone involved w/GWB on who talked about how they held their breaths counting down the minutes until the debates ended knowing how badly Bush could mess up.

Trump talks at the people and understands the importance of sound bites. Hillaries answers might technically win her the debates but not the election. I don't think Trump ever technically won a Primary debate.

431 Virtually every on-line poll shows a Trump win. Time, Fortune, CBS, CNBC, Drudge, NJ.com, the Hill...

I heard CNN and PPP gave t to Hillary by small margins, but that's it.

Probably a lot more but I am too lazy to check.

It kinda sucked! Holt went full-partisan, so all the questions mostly ignored anything normal people care about - it was a trip into the Leftist bubble. Holt was even worse than Candy Crowley, and didn't even try to hide that it was him and Hillary vs. Trump.

Trump was mostly his usual self, made plenty of good points, some useless points, kind of rambled. Hillary was more polished, but was rude and disrespectful and (with Holt) went into the gutter. Basically calling Trump "crazy", mysogenist, and racist, etc. Trump got bogged down responding, but didn't let Holt push him around the way Romney did with Crowley.

But Trump got across the point that Hillary's experience is "bad experience", while he's a capable businessman, and he - perhaps most importantly - took the high road (no name-calling and stuff). Hillary may have gotten herself in some trouble being dismissive about the devastation caused by NAFTA, and she made the black neighborhoods in the US sound like vacation spots (both were very weird and out of touch).

I have to wonder whether normal people might be kind of resentful with Holt and Hillary babbling about stuff they don't care about, while dissing Trump, who was speaking to their issues. We'll see.

435 So I think the way to download the iPhone memory is if as long as it isn't password protected you can create a backup on iTunes and then hook up a good iPhone and load the back up onto it. Because that is essentially what I have done when I've upgraded iphones. Now will this actually work? I don't know because in the case of what I've done is that my phone number and iTunes account are connected so it might not work if you don't know the apple ID of the phone user.

With just about everything -- there is memory in the device, memory of the device, memory attached to the device, and bulk memory. In the example of the machine I'm building, there would be RAM, an SSD, a DVD reader + assorted snippets, and a RAID5 array. You probably can't salvage what's in RAM without excessive effort, but you may be able to extract valuable information from each other level reasonably.

Listening to it again, Hillary sounds really kind of bitchy and nasty, even when she's asking people to go out and vote.

Gingrich pointed out that Hillary didn't present any sort of grand vision for America - just the same old dumpster-diving crap that over $100M in attack ads didn't have any effect on. He's admittedly a Trump cheerleader, but he had a point in calling it a big win.

Bush was an awful candidate. He took what should have been a 12 point blowout and turned it into a squeaker. He sucked. The only thing that saved Bush were the Swift Boat Vets and Bush's determination not to run away from Iraq. That was it. Otherwise, Bush would have been toast.

And after the election, having been given a clear mandate to do whatever was necessary to quell Iraq Bush continued to pussyfoot around and waste time, money and blood for no good reason ... which is part of why people began to hate his guts. That, and his (and the GOP's) embracing of giving aid and comfort to invading illegals - and trying to sneak it all past us in the most underhanded way ever ... until Barky came along and showed even more underhanded and corrupt legislative practices - is pretty much what did in the GOP, starting in 2006.

But, in sum, Bush was an awful and pathetic candidate in 2004. If the Swift Boat Vets hadn't shown up I doubt he would have won, even with his position on Iraq that most of the country clearly agreed with - as far as not surrendering there.

472 Good Morning Morons. Today is Tuesday, September 27, 2016. On this day in 1905 the physics journal Annalen der Physik received Albert Einstein's paper, "Does the Inertia of a Body Depend Upon Its Energy Content?", which introduced the famous equation E=mc^2 which was made popular to the public through the opening sequence of The Twilight Zone. Back in my salad days I used to think that this meant you could convert the mass of something like a penny and produce a really yuuuge amount of energy that would destroy a city. It doesn't exactly work that way. What happens is that when you split a fissile atom such as U-235 the mass of the two fission daughters is less that the total mass you had to begin with and that lost mass is given off as energy which is mostly the KE of the fission products. On the average 200 MEV of energy is released for every atom of U-235 split. That is a tiny amount of energy, however in a critical mass of U-235 there are a LOT of atoms to split. End of today's lesson.

473 And here is the opening post; all eyes were on the so-called "debate" which the Fox write-up of their impression was that it was almost all mudslinging. Trump hit her hard, Scankles' response was largely lies which is what we expected. So who won? As I said yesterday, you can never tell who won in these fake debates. The Trumpsters will say he won, the Scanklebots will say she won and very few people will be influenced by them. And those few that are influenced will be by really stupid things and not actual policy and facts. The fact is, the FSA and the "Yellow Dogs" will vote for Democrats regardless of the puke they represent. As always, turnout in critical States will control who wins.

Agreed on the Article V convention. I think an amendment that would help in this regard is that since the judiciary has been so infested by politics to the point where their historical neutrality has long since become more myth than fact, that all Federal judges ought to stand for election like members of the other two branches. At the very least, a retention vote like Florida has, which allows judges to be dismissed if the majority of voters vote to do so.

It's not a perfect solution, but there's no other way to get the Lefties off the bench, and it'd give the public some quality control.

My "solution" is to totally remove the appointment of judges from Washington and let each State appoint 1 in any manner they see fit. And also make them subject to recall. A State would be able to remove a judge from their State by a simple majority vote, an out of State judge may be removed by a popular vote of the whole country of 60%.

This would give more power back to the States and remove it from the corrupt congress and presidents like the Choom. And at the same time make them accountable.

499 Thank you Vic. The effort and commentary is much appreciated.

We have judicial retention elections in Kansas, and I am doing my part to clean out the rot.

I am going to tell my Federal Senator with a partial clue that his best hope for saving America is returning to regular order in the budget and having impeachment trials for overreaching Judges and Executive Branch employes. We have enough laws.

He mostly acts as an Citizen Ombudsman for the Executive Branch, but he did knock off the Director of OMB after the Chinese data theft.

504 Getting on a plane to The Swamp. I've spent a good part of my career there.

Remember this. Ultimately debates don't change minds. They embolden those who are decided. For those who have not it is simply a chance to view the candidate.

Also remember this. People hate Washington. They hate career politicians. They know when things are not right with the country, and when you're blowing smile up their asses.

People wanted a change with Obama. They largely want a change now. They know Hillary is t that change. She's doubling down on more of the same. Her comments about taxing the rich, class warfare and social warfare are not going to win votes. In fact she will lose her independents. This will be a tough race, but the advantage is still Trump. People do not like or trust Hillary because she's a proven liar and long time Washington denizen. There is plenty of time to drive that home.

507 It's somebody else's phone. What do you want to go through their data for?
Posted by: ThePrimordialOrderedPair

Music, to be specific. I once found an mp3 player in nearly similar broken condition that had thousands of interesting mp3s on it, which I could access by plugging it into my computer. Since most people use their phones as their music players these days, I was wondering if maybe this was a similar situation.

But nowadays there are all sorts of "security protections" on phones, so I doubt it's possible. Also, my computer is really old and I can't even plug my own phone into it and get any data onto or off of the phone, so I doubt I'll be able to access this broken phone either. Just sort of curious if there was some other "obvious" way I didn't know about.

Republican have to learn to do like Democrats. When the biased turd asks about tax returns he responds with an answer about pay to play.

Posted by: Vic We Have No Party at September 27, 2016 06:21 AM (mpXpK)

512 For example

Moderator: What about your tax returns Mr Trump?

Trump: My returns have nothing in them deducting tax free bribes as a charity.

Posted by: Vic We Have No Party at September 27, 2016 06:23 AM (mpXpK)

513 Huh. In England, "takeaway" means "carryout." Here's my carryout:

1973: Trump accused of racial discrimination in rental agreements.
1973: Clinton thrown off Watergate committee for ethics violations.

Trump may have used bankruptcies to avoid paying corporate bills.
Clinton financed run with futures commodities trading scandal and Whitewater.

Trump took the high road (or couldn't think of those).
McCain and Romney took high roads, too. Remember?
Looks like a case where "Trump being Trump" might have been illustrative.

528 Missed the first half. Nothing on immigration? To me and many others it is the most important issue by far as none of
the other issues will even matter if we don't get control of the
borders and the invaders. That is what propelled Trump to the lead, probably issue number 1 with his base and also what Dems use to attack him as a racist. yet there wasn't any discussion of that? I suppose that is why Holt skipped over it to spend time on the burning issue of birtherism.

I have long said that there is no such thing as an undecided voter. When you are down to the wire anyone whop says they are undecided doesn't intend to vote anyway. And so-called independents are largely a myth as well.

I would say that 95% or more of people who actually vote regularly vote for one Party or the other consistently. Technically speaking every voter in SC is an "independent" since you do not register by Party here.

Posted by: Vic We Have No Party at September 27, 2016 06:43 AM (mpXpK)

530 First one-on-one presidential "debate" was the Big Broadcast of 1960.
They've never been anything but a media event. Harding and Cox did more real debating from their front porches than any candidate has done "on the podium."
It's been League of Women Voters goo-goo pablum from the beginning. And do we ever eat that shit up.

Lincoln and Douglas, we should recall, were running for the Senate.
And yes, we should...recall.

Vic, I am a tad cynical on external remedies. Even if it's in the Constitution.

We have a large part of the population that can not process history, logic, current events, economics or science. By design of those running the US Government.

In a rational world Hillary would be in prison after Whitewater, and never be a US Senator. Yet she has support by the reactionaries of the world.

The revolutionary promise of productive self-governed citizens has been rubbed out in my lifetime. I submit that even a well run Article V convention will not return us to a blessed path. It's a Hail Mary.

Posted by: NaCly Dog at September 27, 2016 06:50 AM (u82oZ)

536 Hillary was definitely better prepared, but I cannot get behind her ideas. I do not want 4 more years of what the country has just been through and I do not want my taxes raised.
Donald has 59% of the white male non-college educated vote and I doubt Hillary said anything last night to cause any of them to want to vote for her.
Do not underestimate how pissed off this country is and how fed up we are with Obama and Hillary.
I still think this is a close election and I don't see her running away with it.

I am sure she didn't have THE questions beforehand, as per Holt. As example: she didn't have the actual question: "Did Jim eat lunch at home?". Instead Holt sent her, for practice: "Did Jim eat lunch at his house?"

But knowing what was going to be asked did her little good. Like I said, she was robotic and rote. Had to be done that way...imagine her answers if she didn't have little sermons already at the ready, what with all the drugs in her system and whatnot.
