EMT 09/25/16 [krakatoa]

Heading to Philly for a relatively quick hitter, he said, tempting the fates.

Just close enough to drive. My general rule of thumb is anything inside 9 hours (that doesn't include NYC or NJ), I'll drive.

What's your favorite form of travel?

I loved taking the train between Amsterdam & London last year. That was far more enjoyable than I anticipated, and there's a very good chance I try Amtrak here some day to see how it compares.

Car is generally the best for me. Air travel has never recovered from the effects of 9/11. Hell, if time isn't a factor, Greyhound is probably more comfortable than air these days.

1 Good Morning Morons. Today is Sunday, September 25, 2016. On this day in 1789 Congress passed twelve amendments to the new United States Constitution: The Congressional Apportionment Amendment (which was never ratified), the Congressional Compensation Amendment, and the ten that are known as the Bill of Rights. Note that the first ten known as the bill of rights were required by many of the "States" at the time or the new constitution would not have been ratified and we would be working under the looser Articles of Confederation. What was sadly lacking was a paragraph or two limiting the authority of the Supreme Court and taking power to appoint its members away from DC. Under our form of government the Constitution is a written contract between the States that divides power between the central government and the States, supposedly with most of that power being retained by the States. However, when the founders allowed the court to determine that it was the sole government entity with the power to determine what the contract meant it set the fox guarding the hen house.

2 FLAMING SKULL

The Washington Mall shooter has been arrested and guess what. He was NOT a Hispanic; he was a muzzie from Turkey as a lot of Morons yesterday said that is what he looked like. Of course the motive is unknown. But hey, let's let in a few hundred thousand more of these murderous 6th century blood cult members.

Charlotte police have released the videos of the perp, from their videos it appears him going for the gun is not clear. But from the video made by his wife the gun was clearly on the ground near him. It did not get there by osmosis.

4 Here is another view which to me does look clear showing that he had a gun in an ankle holster but it does not show how the gun moved from the holster to on the ground that we saw yesterday. On one video you can hear police yelling for him to "drop it" though.

The phrases religious liberty and religious freedom will stand for nothing except hypocrisy so long as they remain code words for discrimination, intolerance, racism, sexism, homophobia, Islamophobia, Christian supremacy or any form of intolerance.

IOW both Obama and he hate Christians and Jews and love them some muzzie cult. And they hate the first amendment. Orwell wrote an instruction manual for the "new speak" and the Choom and his corrupt lackeys are following it. And the Choom has packed all the appellate courts with the help of the do-nothing Party. Again, we are at a point now where an Art V convention is the only peaceful alternative.

7 Here is the Democrat socialist position on curing the monetary ills of two Ohio cities that are going bankrupt and would already have done so if not for unconstitutional federal aid. They wish to take two bankrupt cities and merge them into one larger bankrupt city. After which somehow through some magic means they will become financially sound. So what is their magic means of getting out of trouble? A tax increase of course, and not said, more federal dollars. They do not understand that the entire city can not be the Free Shit Army. Somebody has to pay the bills that unhindered socialism creates.

11 TX is appealing the 5th Obama circuit ruling on their voter ID law to the Supreme Court. As it stands now the court would deadlock despite there being a precedent from a previous court ruling supporting TX. Of course Stare Decisis (a Ted The Swimmer love poem) means nothing when it goes against the Democrat need for vote fraud. And a deadlock means the 5th circuit invention of law will hold.

After my last trip to Pittsburgh I said no more air travel and that was before 9-11. I said then if I can't drive it I will stay at home. The air trip took me about 12 hours to get there and over 12 hours to get back.

Amtrak's a good way of getting around so long as exact time of arrival and departure isn't a concern of yours. I've always found the service good and polite and the food good. Just remember though, that if you travel by train give yourself plenty of time and that the journey is as much a part of the vacation as the destination.

It depends. There have been some great bus lines. They are cheap ($12 Philly to New York), clean and reasonably quick. Unfortunately, they usually stay that way only for a year or two and then are infested. But then new, clean lines seem to pop up.

These days, I'd rather walk 2500 miles than deal with the bullshit at the airports. The feral government has made a total mess of everything - as we all expected and why we pretty much everyone with a brain was telling Bush not to listen to anything that joke of a 9/11 commission had to say about anything. 181 When I did the western trip, we flew to Denver and rented a car after. Went though western Nebraska. Not what I was expecting. Lots of open land and some impressive (for me) bluffs, mountains and antelope. The fun part was being on a 2 lane road. Garmin tells you to make a left turn. The next thing is "Drive 129 miles then turn right".

Not a stop sign or light for all that distance. Maybe slow to 45 for a wide spot in the road.

200 If you were just passin' through it might not catch your eye
You won't see any flashing lights or historic marker signs
It sits there on the edge of town, devoid of time and space
A symbol of the good old days, a credit to our race
It's Junior's Field

It's Junior's Field

Now I doubt if you could find one person, who could not recall a time
When they've cursed a crooked umpire, clearly wasn't on their side
Hollered for their favorite batter while they called the pitcher names
Yeah I'm talkin' 'bout baseball son it's the world's greatest game
On Junior's Field

On Junior's Field

Well it wasn't for his prowess, cause Junior never played
But you could find him in the bleachers or on a lawn chair in the shade
You might tempt him with a cold beer but don't distract him from the game
Cause in his head he's got statistics on every kid whose ever played
On Junior's Field

On Junior's Field

It's the Sunday double header, got rained out on Friday night
It's the rockets on Independence Day that light up that Kansas sky
It's the t-ball game at 5 o'clock when slugger's daddy's pride and joy
Tell me one more time now momma which one's your little boy
On Junior's Field

On Junior's Field

Now all across this country, in the cities and the towns
You'll find statues built for heroes, who've defended sacred ground
But that ball field's our reminder of something great about this land
Anyone can be a hero, 'cause it's the heart that makes the man
On Junior's Field
On Junior's Field
On Junior's Field
On Junior's Fie-e-e-e-Eldora

Whew. Excuse me for that,, and while I put a splint on my index finger.

260 I didn't think I could get by without carbs, but I have to admit, fuel injectors really have gotten better. So I stopped converting the newer cars back.

Back when I was working, I was a partisan for rail travel, mostly because I could take an overnight train roomette and wake up at my destination, so long as I chose my destinations carefully. Couple of things happened: the Company started locating conferences to be convenient to the airport, so things like arriving right at the Loop were no longer an advantage at all, and Amtrak just completely went to hell. Seemed to me that when a lot of the employees were left over from the remnants of private companies, it had a certain tradition, but they failed to, erm, institutionalize the culture, so to speak. Sadly, I guv em up.

When there were real alternatives, people who insisted on driving tended to be the "shun-piker" type, who'd take some extra time to wander the back roads and old routes. I love that. Very few people do that now, even bikers. The Interstate travel experience is to earlier driving what Economy-Plus is to the Lockheed Constellation era of air travel. If you smoke, of course, there is no choice.

261 Watching the 1965 Batman movie on Netflix. The one

Oh please, let there be a link.

Metaphorically, of course.

Just imagine a teenage VIA, with a set of those sitting on top of C'd, ported and polished dual port heads on a VW.

And if those are there, imagine the rest of the carnage sitting in that engine bay.

Start with the lightened flywheel, and work your way back.

268 211 The biggest problem is the MFM stirring shit. I saw copy and paste statements this morning from major newspapers that said the cop who shot the black thug was white and no mention of a gun. And some even saying he was unarmed.

Deliberate lying to stir shit.

270 He has no "convictions" in WA state. Under 21. Which means if he followed the courts orders, they would expunge his record. He was In court on a domestic charge last January. Step daddy David Marshall asked the court to go easy on him cause he was "having a hard time". He underwent counseling as part of the courts order

Heh.
My first car was a '69 Ghia drop top. After the Automatic Shickshift started its second fire, I put in a hydraulic clutch, shoved in a big (1700cc?) new motor and almost immediately put in dual Mikuni carbs.
I could chirp 3rd gear in that thing... lots of fun.

288 We drive whenever it makes sense. it's 350 miles to our kids place in NH, I can usually do it in 6-7hrs. Flying is expensive & I have to add in 3hrs for getting to the airport & dealing with all the bs.

We drove to Philly-Nashville & back earlier this year - that was a solid 11hrs... And was about my limit.

In the late 80's I ETS'd & shipped my car from Hawaii to Oakland, then drove to Philly. That was a blast - I'd like to do that again someday.
