I had a random thought here at work (heh!), where at the debate, Trump is talking about how he wants black Americans to have more opportunity, safer communities, etc... and he's coming across as very sincere in that belief, and it's scoring points.... clinton is watching, growing visible worried and angry that Trump's stealing "her" issue right there in front of her..... her rage quickly boils over, and when it's her turn, she turns to him and says "You have no idea what the *N WORD!!!* of this country...."And she trails off, as the entire nation is shocked and appalled.

I like all the people threatened with banning. I like two posters who seem to have a history and do not seem to like each other very much.
I cringed a bit when I read the rest of the ONT this morning. It's a bit like when a long-simmering fight breaks out at Thanksgiving dinner between 2 beloved relatives and everyone else just sits there and stares at their plate. Not fun for anybody.
I'm hard on trolls (and probably give them more attention than I should). I've disagreed with members of the horde - usually politely.
There are people who might make comments that irritate me - well, so what? Somebody else might think they're amusing. I don't have to read them. Nobody appointed me thread nanny or AOSHQ arbiter of taste. It's not worth getting into a stupid fight.
I don't want to fight 'rons or 'ettes. We don't have enough on our hands with this election and the country friggin' falling apart, we have to fret about what someone else wrote here?

I'm probably going to delete the app off my phone, and just move on. I find myself checking it way too often. That's fine if it's updates on something going on (NYC the other day, for example)... perhaps create a routine like my dad had 35 years ago. Read the news at dinner. I'll have a greater selection of resources than he did, but it was once a day.
It went from once a day to the 24 hour news cycle. That morphed into the 1440 minute news cycle.
And all the good parts of that can be scanned (on Insta-dudes page, or on a smart military blog) in under 30 minutes.

I still do. When things get really insane, I know that there will be mostly sanity here - or at least a kind of insanity that makes me chuckle, and sometimes really laugh.
Vic tipped me off to this site back in 2008. Truthfully, from what I recall, it could be a much more hostile place then than it is now. I also remember when Ace asked people to tone down the profanity so he could get some advertising, things got calmer.

While having personal fights and arguments on thread is definitely my least favorite thing to perceive, my second least favorite is when people come on and interject some real-life family tragedy and thereby kill the topic and the mood for everyone.
Examples generally go like this:

I mean, I understand that people need to "reach out" in times of crisis, but like with arguments, this isn't really the proper place to do that. When tragedy strikes, turn off the internet and focus on family.
I know that is a cruel thing to say, but I'm being honest. If I see a "personal tragedy" comment, I close the thread window and do something else for a few hours.
