Ohio: Trump 42%, Clinton 37%. Good news for Trump, of course, but I'm sure you've heard by now (as everyone keeps repeating it, especially Hillary sympathizers) but Trump has a very hard row to hoe: He has to win: All of Romney's base states All of the battlegrounds then flip at a least one of the big states, or two of the smaller states, which are considered fairly solid for Hillary. (I think Virginia is considered as part of this last category, and is no longer considered a battleground. Other battlegrounds he would need to flip include Colorado, New Mexico, New Hampshire, Wisconsin, Michigan, or Pennsylvania). Trump will probably keep all of Romney's states. Increasingly, he looks like he'll win the battlegrounds. But there is still the question of that last state -- winning all the battlegrounds only gives him something like 254 Electoral votes to Hillary's 277. Oh, by the way: NFL Monday Night Football ratings dropped 11% game 2-to-game 2 from 2015 to 2016. This week's game, Eagles v. Bears, wasn't a great one, but game 2 of 2015 (Jets vs. Colts) wasn't really a super-high-interest game either. #TFWYA (the fuck with y'all)Comments(Jump to bottom of comments)1

I think youre summary of the electoral college race is a bit too pessimistically phrased, Ace.
If he wins all the true "battlegrounds," then he wins the electoral college easily. It all depends on who defines "battleground state." Referring to the link in comment #7, Trump has 164 electoral votes locked up, and ONLY needs to win 106 more to win the election, which he can do by simply winning these states:
Florida (29) Georgia (16) Iowa (6) Arizona (11) Ohio (1 North Carolina (15) Wisconsin (10) Maine district 2 (1) = 106 !!! He is leading in ALL of them EXCEPT Wisconsin. But considering that Scott Walker won three elections in a row there, Wisconsin is doable. And Trump can lose the rest. Victory is within his grasp. I assume that the greater the gap in Ohio the more likely a victory in PA becomes.
In addition, I believe the most recent polling has shown Virginia to be tightening up so I would not eliminate Virginia from the battleground category. It is also important to note that the number of battleground states is increasing, and that the ones coming into play were thought to be safely in the Democratic column. If this trend continues there will be even more states moving from Safe D to Likely D and Likely D to Lean D. This is going to cost money and energy and Clinton has only one of those. So I see Trump continuing to do better and better, as long as his team keeps him focused, which he seems to be 100% now. Getting rid of Manafort has head guy was a superb stroke. The email issues will continue. The Clinton Foundation issues will continue. Trump has even had to lift a finger to give Hillary a thousand nipping dogs around her ankles, which keeps her defensive and more likely to say stupid shit. I'm beginning to think the only way Hillary! gets any traction is if she just decides to go for the 'aw, man, there for the grace of God' vote.
That would mean she'd show up at the debates using a walker, towing an oxygen bottle behind her, smoking a Marlboro 100 (crush-proof box) wearing a size XXXL 'I'm With Stupid' T-shirt, wearing an honest-to-god $19.95 hospital aides smock (not the designer version she's sported), with the catheter hanging outside of her Blair Catalog lime-green SansABelts. With the bag swingin' free. Wearing some crusty old bunny slippers, and sipping on a handle of Popov vodka. Depends peeking out from her waistband. She opens up her debate portfolio, and a few traffic tickets fall out, along with the contents of the latest Money Mailer. Anytime Trump scores one on her she just belches. Loudly. If he really tags her she farts. Leaning to one side and wincing, of course. Looks at the audience and says, "Jaysus, what crawled up there and died?" October surprises might change things, but generally people find out more about Clinton's corruption and bad health, and more about how much the MFM lies about Trump. The Trump "indiscretions" fade or get cleared up, and debates will certainly reveal a more likeable and strong Trump than the undecideds expect, while Hillary will be dull at best, or maybe even give us a faint. A long time ago here, I said that Trump could win by keeping the Romney map and winning OH, PA and FL, and that it'd be a turnout battle where Trump's high negatives could be matched with even higher Hillary negatives. Trump has natural advantages in FL. Doing better that Romney with white non-college was key.
I wouldn't call it 50-state, but Trump has actually run more of an air game to put more states in play. I've had Trump at least 300 EVs. FFS, Nate Silver has moved from giving Trump a 3% chance to a 48% chance in just over a month. Welcome to the party, pal. A lot of the electoral map analyses getting done right now use polls (or the RCP average) that are flawed because they assume 2012 turnout patterns. I add 5% to these polls in Trump's favor. Yes, there's fraud risk but I expect this will have a limit. Trump won't stand for Philly precincts that vote 120% for Hillary. Posted by: Ignoramus at September 21, 2016 07:10 PM (r1fLd) 92

Ace,
Trump doesn't have to win all the battle-ground states. He needs all Romney's states, FL, and then any number of combos can get him to 270. He has a much better chance of getting to 270, than Romney (IMO). Which isn't to say that he isn't a fairly-decent underdog-- 538's number of 40% (for a Trump victory) sounds about right-- but he has a very legit shot. In fact, if he's even passable in the debates, I think he puts it in the bag-- but will he be passable? I'm hopeful-- but that's all. There's an interesting recent article in The New Yorker about what to expect in the first 100 days of a Trump Administration. In addition to describing the horror of a wholesale dismantling of Obama's legacy, there are attributed quotes about how New Gingrich is coaching Trump about going after the federal civil service with hammer and tong. The New Yorker intended to scare its readers. I got a schandenboner.

Trump can't win Pennsylvania. Obama won by 300, 000 votes out of 6, 000, 000 cast. It's hopeless Obama is not running this year. And Johnson is pulling many more votes from Hill than he is from Trump. Obama's election and reelection were outliers in that the numbers of youths and blacks who came out to vote were unusually high. Hill's not going to pull in those numbers. This year's election might just be an outlier in that blue collar white people, ones who are generally apolitical and haven't voted in past elections might come out to vote for Trump - just because they've had it with all this shit. They don't know the "issues" from a hole in the head - they're just tired of being called racists. Quit browbeating him and browbeat me instead. I'm the moron here who didn't. I thought the 2012 election didn't matter for the issues I cared about. I didn't see a fight in Romney (much less Ryan) and I thought we could get more - read, less - out of a lame duck second Obama term with a hostile Congress, than out of a wimp second coming of George HW Bush with RINO help. Scorecard: We've had less legislation, but more regulation. Also the RINOs tended to rubberstamp Barky's picks anyway because Governing and Avoiding Drama. Which means Ryan has basically governed us either way. I think this election matters a whole lot more. Whatever we're getting in Trump, we're not getting the choice of Ryan's clique. This year's election might just be an outlier in that blue collar white people, ones who are generally apolitical and haven't voted in past elections might come out to vote for Trump - just because they've had it with all this shit. They don't know the "issues" from a hole in the head - they're just tired of being called racists. They're tired of the High Priests of our Post Modern Culture calling them stupid ignorant rubes for not wanting dudes in dresses using the girls bathrooms. And constantly being called haters because they don't ENTHUSIASTICALLY support gay marriage. Lots of reasons to vote for Trump that have very little to do with Trump. But do people think she will be worse then Obama? Really??
Absolutely. First, she has an enemies list a mile long (including a lot of Democrats) who she intends to revenge herself on. More importantly, her being elected will validate Obama's ignoring Congress by issuing executive orders and his refusal to enforce the laws he doesn't like. It will also validate all of Hillary's illegal activities. I'm sure she'll simply rule by decree - she'll simply make law by issuing a huge stream of executive orders, and dare Congress to impeach her for it. Elect Trump, and the left will suddenly rediscover the separation of powers. Elect Hillary, and we go full-on banana republic - Congress will have about as much authority as the Russian Duma does under Putin. The amazing thing is that Clinton herself has sent out an entire army of flying monkeys to attack Trump in the most rude and crude and visceral ways.
They are trying to repeat their prior success with using Khan at the DNC as an attack proxy. Where Trump lost his temper and launched an undignified attack on the proxy, instead of keeping the focus on Clinton. To his instant detriment in the polls. The thing is... Trump isn't taking the bait this time. He's ignoring the proxies. He's just letting the huge barrage of attacks from Harry Reid and others roll off him like water off a duck's back. "All y'all" or "all of y'all," on the other hand, is generally used in place of "you all." http://memphis.about.com/od/midsouthliving/qt/yall.htm This is what happens when New Yorkers, like Ace or Hillary, try to speak Southern. My oldest likes to tell the story of 2000 when they fake-announced that Gore had won Virginia when he wasn't even close. Apparently, he had never heard "Fuck" before that and he remembers my husband saying it and my saying, no, no, it's not possible, they're lying, fuck. He was 8.

Posted by: Puddleglum at September 21, 2016 08:56 PM (20X6f) I read that about a decade before 2008. So I was pretty depressed that night, and I also knew that we were headed towards civil war. 2012 I thought I would die. Couldn't get out of bed. Couldn't eat.
Never turned on talk radio to this very day. All I remember was wanting to sleep and not wake up. Kicked in the gut, with no relief in sight. I don't think I'll have a reaction this time around. I've made peace with it and it's in God's hands. If He is merciful, we shall receive mercy. If He calls us to account, there will be an accounting. Either way, America as I've known it is gone, and now it is just the place where I currently live. I lift up my eyes. Where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, Maker of heaven and earth. If it is a trend election Trump wins 52/47. If it is a blowout election Trump wins 56/43.
Trend type election is most likely. All three blowout elections 1964, 1972, 1984 were re-elections (Johnson in place of Kennedy). Posted by: Make America Great Again at September 21, 2016 09:03 PM (BS8yt) 611

As I said yesterday, my sister volunteered for a drive to help homeless vets. She emailed everyone she could think of, asking them to donate items.
Not one person (except me) gave her anything. Nobody at the college she works for answered her. And nobody showed up at the drive. She sent me a bitter text: "Guess they're not LGBTQ or BLM." Then she called me later with a rant "These vets stand at a Brewers game and everyone cheers - and then they think they've done something for vets. Fuck them." Jane D'oh, you'd like my sister. So being realistic about where things stand is being a "Hillary sympathizer" now?
Trump is down. Not as far down as he was, but he's down. He needs to gain 2-3 points more nationally before his "tipping point" state(s) start to tip. If he does that, WI, MI, PA, and others will all flip at about the same time and everyone will be talking about it being a landslide. If he doesn't, expect a victory for the felon. This is not "sympathizing." It's nothing more or less than how the race currently stands. We're coming up on a debate. Maybe Inmate Number 1984 will cough up a hairball 15 minutes in. Maybe Cheeto Jesus will get up and tell a bunch of dick jokes and not know what an F-15 is. Maybe it'll be a snoozefest. None of that changes the fact that as of this moment, there's no getting around it, Miss Fallsalot is currently winning narrowly. Posted by: Sayyid at September 21, 2016 09:30 PM (Wz+TY) 640
