Eradicating AIDS in third world countries is a fairly significant cause. And yet... what we have, specifically with Western entities, is the political graft/headline grabbing nonsense that has been allowing millions and millions of people to needless die. For decades.
My only... and I mean this, my ONLY way of coping with it is believing a just and loving God sees beyond this world, and has a place of justice for all, in the next.

.I hate to sound cynical and a bit racist but she has already gotten all of the black vote she is going to get this election no matter how much pandering she does.
Hate to say it but the typical #blm person is not a likely voter. Especially now that obama is not on the ticket.
But that doesn't prevent them from running the polls and modifying them for a repeat of 2008 and 2012. And hillary is not going to get anywhere near those numbers.
Reminds me of the Senate election here in Kentucky in 2012. All of the polls had Grimes up by a few points or trailing McConnell within the MOE the week before the election. The Dems thought they had it in the bag election day. McConnell beat her by 14 points in a landslide.
Some of the polls were off by 19+ points because they kept polling based on the results of the 2008 election and confined their polling to Louisville and Lexington. After it was all said and done the pollsters refused to admit they were wrong and said that people must have been lying to them during the entire election cycle.

I have an iPhone 6, which I have had for a year and a half. Yesterday, for some reason, my home screens lost two rows of icons. There is just two rows worth of blank space at the top of each home screen, and the bottom two rows of apps of each screen are missing.
It's like when you can do that thing where you pull the screen down temporarily so you can work it with one hand, except that it's permanent.
I've tried moving the apps up the screen, but as soon as I let go they pop back down.
I can't find anything online or in my iPhone handbook that comes with the phone that addresses this. The closest I can find is to do a home screen reset, but I am hesitant to do that because if it doesn't restore the apps I can no longer see, I don't want to lose the ones I already can see if they switch positions with the factory settings.
I apologize for the length of this missive, but I hope you can help me, horde, because you're my only hope.

I did see a great interview somewhere on Youtube with a former Secret Service team leader who said that the SS detail would be trained to remain impassive and unruffled during any unexpected occurrence. This guy was no Hillary fan, but just looked at the video in great detail from a technical insider's prospective and he says there's nothing to be read into her team acting "routine."
At many points he froze the video to praise individual members of the detail for doing their jobs exactly right, saying things like "the female agent remains stone-faced and impassive exactly as she was trained to do-good for her. Good job"
In the end he said he would have been proud to have led that team.

CA may have approved it but the EPA banned it for use in potable water pipes. You can still use it for sewage.
In any case, if you are living in a "code State" you can never use it for for hot water lines anyway

I lived in DC for over 11 years, knew many Hill staffers and that is exactly it. I think part of it is that DC is such a lovely city - not all of it but the areas where the political class lives certainly is - that officials coming in from the sticks fall in love with it. They want to stay there forever. They want to send their kids to Georgetown Day and St. Albans. They want to be invited to the right parties and see their names in the WaPo and be talking heads on the Sunday shows. Doing that entails forgetting about those hicks at home, who are uncool pains in the asses who need to be thrown crumbs and (usually)flattered during election season, but are forgotten about most of the time.
They don't matter. The important thing is to make a good impression on the local crowd of operators and the K Street bigwigs so you can continue your pleasant existence of living in a lovely Victorian home in NW, dining at whatever the in restaurants of the moment are, and sending your children to school with the elites.

As a bagpiper, I play many gigs.
Recently I was asked by a funeral director to play at a graveside service for a homeless man.
He had no family or friends, so the service was to be at a pauper's cemetery in the Nova Scotia back country. As I was not familiar with the backwoods, I got lost and, being a typical man, I didn't stop for directions.
I finally arrived an hour late and saw the funeral guy had evidently gone and the hearse was nowhere in sight. There were only the diggers and crew left and they were eating lunch.
I felt badly and apologized to the men for being late.
I went to the side of the grave and looked down and the vault lid was already in place.
I didn't know what else to do, so I started to play.
The workers put down their lunches and began to gather around.
I played out my heart and soul for this man with no family and friends.
I played like I've never played before for this homeless man.
And as I played "Amazing Grace", the workers began to weep.
They wept, I wept, we all wept together.
When I finished, I packed up my bagpipes and started for my car.
Though my head was hung low, my heart was full.
As I opened the door to my car, I heard one of the workers say, "I never seen anything like that before, and I've been putting in septic tanks for twenty years."

Think some of it is also that for a lot of them (particularly actors) they hit it big in part by pure luck - right time, right place, happened to have the right look for a role. Most of the Government buildings that dominate the DC landscape were erected when Brutalism was the dominant architectural style. If you like lots of concrete boxes and above-ground bunkers, then I guess DC is "lovely."
And the commercial areas are just cheek-to-jowl two-and-three story boxes that haven't been updated since the 1970's. All of it cut through with streets and tunnels choked with cars.

imo border control and America First are also tea party issues, on the practical level. And making DC responsive to the little and middle guy that didn't have a voice, also big tea party issue.
Trump is tea party on most points. Some "conservatives" and some evangelicals added their issues to the huge grassroots movement, which in some cases only hurt it as they lost focus and sometimes caused divisions.
To me Trump is exactly what the tea party was looking for ... or as close as we could get.

A friend of mine, a former coworker, who was very instrumental in my shift from right to left - he loaned me the Collected Works of PJ O'Rourke back in the 80's, which delighted me - now lives in LA, works in the movie industry and backed Bernie for president.

Workmen are finishing up this morning the installation of three new furnaces (96% efficient), 3 new air conditioners (something about SEER but I don't remember) and 9 new digital thermostats. The old ones still worked, but we had to have the repairman out twice last winter for problems.
Hopefully, this will reduce the utility bill.

The quick connect systems and flexible pipe are really a game changer, anyone can do it. Change the layout of your house a bit, and you could put a shower in every room about as easy as putting in a base-board heater.
Easier if you pre-design the house to have that flexibility.
I have played with the fittings building spray rigs, and it is really like playing with Legos.

Most times it makes sense to split the systems up. We could have gone with 2 large units, but it was more efficient to have two of the 5 ton and one 3 ton. That way, you're only running what's needed.

PEX seems to be the piping of choice now. When they first started using they touted that since it was flexible there was no need for 90° elbows. Now they are finding out that all those bends are subject to erosion and the pipes are failing. So they are going back to elbows.
And I suspect the EPA will find something wrong with it too.

We actually had four heating systems if you included the garage.
In what must have been the dumbest move of my life, I allowed the heating contractor to talk me in to an expensive hot water heat exchanger to heat the garage. It was one headache after another, complete with major leaks and ridiculous running costs.
I finally bought a natural gas space heater at Lowes and it has run flawlessly for years.

He's an atypical millennial, a fiscal conservative - and yet he simply buys into some PC dogma (namely, gay marriage is wonderful and only bigots oppose it, global warming is real and it's not nice to blame Islam for terrorism) because it's what he's been taught all his life (at Catholic schools too!)

In a fiat monetary system the deficit represents the extra money that has to be circulated to account for the growth of the economy. Because the central government prints the money - which it destroys after taxation - there is not a problem caused by a deficit in the Federal government. It does not cause inflation - not is it part of the National Debt.
Debt taken on by the central government IS a problem. There is absolutely zero reason for the Federal government to borrow money. If you could print money would you ever have to borrow any? Of course not. The debt comes from the left wanting to destroy the US and tricking conservatives into going along with borrowing to cover the deficit.

Actually, I think they used PVC everywhere they didn't use PEX. Was more than just the sewage pipes. What the plumber said at the time was that they couldn't use the standard PVC welding that you'd get at your home improvement store (the purple stuff). They had some other stuff that they had to use to be up to code (in my area at least).

Fiscal Hawks are shown pushing grandma over the cliff, even more effectively after 8 years of Obama. So "saving social security" is probably a necessary campaign promise. We passed the Rubicon long ago and went down the rabbit hole, so Trump's new plans don't bother me as much, since reality will set in soon enough. Only then can "hard choices" really be made, as I see it ... so why run on that?
The whole idea of "shovel ready" was perhaps workable, but Barry couldn't make the shovel ready jobs and Trump (maybe) could. Obama just subsidized his union friends, and God only knows how much is really missing.
My "crazy" idea is to combine what they call "cold fusion" (paying off the debt with QE money, over time, if I understand it correctly), but tie that to a National balanced budget amendment, so the currency maybe stays strong. With unfunded entitlement obligations at $125T (or whatever) we have limited choices. The "unprecedented" QE and ZIRP for 8 years can't continue, unless we just turn the fed reserve loose to prop up stock and bond markets with funny money, as Yellen suggested (or other asset classes, whatever that means)
