I was fighting on Trump's behalf not because I thought there was any point to it except I could not imagine what else I could possibly do except try to stop Hillary from being president. I just thought it was a morally necessity to resist that outcome to the utmost -- even if any efforts expended were futile. So I really don't even know what to say. For a few weeks I've been saying "Well, if Trump doesn't overtake Hillary with all this bad news piling up for her, then it's over, and I can say 'I did my best, and I can just get back to blogging about nonsense," and I was half-hoping for that liberation. I really did not expect this. I thought there was a chance -- 10%, 15%, something low -- but that it was unlikely. Now you're telling me this buffoon could actually win? What? Then again, this race has shown it is almost nothing but dramatic shifts and sudden reversals, and you'd be foolish to think it's done surprising us. And don't forget the Toricelli Option. The Democrats love power a hell of a lot more than they love Granny "Shakes" McFaceplant. Meanwhile, Bill Clinton said Hillary had "the flu," which she doesn't have, according to her campaign spin. I guess he totally doesn't know what disease his wife is alleged to have And her doctor did what everyone expected her to do -- claimed she was in the pink of health, didn't bother explaining the whole seizure/convulsion thing that literally everyone in the world has now seen.Comments(Jump to bottom of comments)1

I'm really starting to think Trump is a bona fide Black Swan event -- nothing's going to stop him becoming president. Not a cluttered field of better qualified Republicans (and some jerks, of course), not the Clinton Machine or any number of dirty tricks, not even him stepping on his own dick. My fear is whether he's part of a larger, even *worse* Black Swan event whose shape we don't even know.

White non-college is the largest voting cohort out there (by a lot) but the Ds turned on them and the GOPe don't want them in their club. Trump saw the value in undeveloped land that everyone else was ignoring and built on it. I made the point here nearly a year ago that if Trump got white non-college turnout up just 5% or so, and had black turnout retreat to pre-Obama levels, and hold everything else the same, Trump would hold Romney's electoral map and win OH, PA and FL and win the election. If you put a gun to my head, I would say Trump will still narrowly lose the election. I think he'll grab Ohio, NC, even Florida, but not have quite enough to eke out a victory. But I do also think all the people who say Trump is a dead man walking, politically speaking, are going to be stunned on Election Night. Not because he'll win, but because he'll come a lot closer than McCain or Romney.

It's not a comment on my personal opinion, and you can choose another word than "unlikable" if you want. But both candidates have high negatives, and so I expect to see vacillation among the undecideds if it looks like one or the other starts pulling away. Almost an opposite preference cascade, because neither is going to pull the numbers for a preference cascade. Posted by: Banana Splits Guy at September 14, 2016 06:35 PM (64GmR) 182

Also, people who don't like Trump *really* don't like him. Whereas Romney and McCain? Eh, the MSM says they're dumb racists, so the left will buy into it, but they inspired very little passion. It's like that scene in the Citizen Kane of our generation, Private Parts, when Paul Giamatti's character (Pig Vomit) is asking about Howard Stern's listener feedback. The people who liked him listened for an average of, IIRC, an hour and 10 mins. Biggest reason given - "I want to hear what he says next" The people who hated him listened for an average of an hour and 30 mins. Biggest reason given - "I want to hear what he says next." Here's a snippet: To all the "conservatives" yammering about my supposed opposition to Constitutional principle (more on that below) and who hate Trump, I say: Trump is mounting the first serious national-political defense of the Constitution in a generation. He may not see himself in those terms. I believe he sees himself as a straightforward patriot who just wants to do what is best for his country and its people. Whatever the case, he is asserting the right of the sovereign people to make their government do what they want it to do, and not do things they don't want it to do, in the teeth of determined opposition from a managerial class and administrative state that want not merely different policies but above all to perpetuate their own rule. When you look at any poll, always check the metrics before you form an opinion. Most polling over-sample Democratic by at least 6 points. Media polls are notorious for this, and are therefore automatically suspect.
So, while it might seem like good news that Trump is slightly ahead, you can mentally add some points to his scale, because the pollsters are certainly tweaking the poll to favor Clinton as much as they can. Posted by: Mark Dietzler at September 14, 2016 07:19 PM (wnprX) 383

I've had a Mini Thirty for 20 canoe-accident years. It has a light and smooth recoil, which totally surprised me by moving a pretty good quality scope in the stock scope rings. So pay some attention to that mounting.
It is a very reliable action. Of course I've run some real crap though it, so you can make it catch sidelong on ejection. But feeding and firing are just not an issue. If you fit larger, non-stock magazines, not that anyone would actually do that, there's a good chance you'll have to do a little dremel work to get them to engage the same every time. Very satisfying Garand feel as that action cycles. I think that round behaves a lot like a 30-30, which is OK for a carbine. Posted by: Stringer Davis at September 14, 2016 07:22 PM (H5rtT) 390

I believe the 408 is more accurate. Plans had been made and the Panzers had already been sent to a scrapyard. What do Nixon, Atty. Gen. Mitchell, Haldeman, Erlichman and Hillary have in common?
A: They were all fired during Watergate for being corrupt liars. She was the only Democrat, though. Respected Democrat Judiciary Committee Chief Counsel Jerry Zeifman fired her, refused to give her a reference, called her a bald-faced liar and wished he'd pressed charges on her. On behalf of Ted Kennedy's presidential ambition, she tried to deny Nixon a lawyer. When told that Justice Douglas had been allowed a lawyer, she swiped those documents from the public domain. For over 40 years, she has been a corrupt liar who manipulates public records for presidential ambitions. How bad do you have to be to be the only Democrat disgraced in a Republican scandal? Nothing--NOTHING--has changed in those four decades. Any health records she produces will be self-serving lies. She's a corrupt liar and always has been. If you're looking for solace that maybe it's all still futile, I can give some pessimism.
1) The recent national polls don't reflect Trump's rise. They reflect Clinton's loss. Trump was hovering around 40%. He's still hovering around 40%. It's just Clinton has dropped from around 50% post-convention down to 40% along with Trump. The polls are saying that 10% of the country flipped from "I'm with her" to "none of those pieces of crap," rather than 5% switching from pro-Hillary to pro-Trump. Which is interesting, since they're not affirmatively saying third party, either. So they're probably just getting cold feet and will fall back in line with Her soon. 2) There's still no indication that Trump is going to peel away any "tipping point" state to push him over 270. Look at a map that adds up electoral votes. Give Trump every toss-up other than PA, MI, WI, and NH. What's that give you? Trump 266 (or 268 if you're bullish and give him Maine statewide minus the 1st district). What's left of the "toss-up" states is a wall of states Trump isn't even close on -- he's down a solid five points in all of them even looking at the optimistic polls. Trump has yet to show a glimmer of hope that he can win PA, MI, WI, NH, CO, RI (?!?), CN (?!?), VA, or OR. Well, I guess there's that Ipsos result in Colorado, but that's the nation-wide state-by-state poll that shows him in spitting distance in Washington state and CN (no one else thinks it's close), but down 20 in Maine (where a lot of polls are saying it's within 10) so... let's wait for confirmation of it, eh? It's got odd outlier results in both directions depending on what state you look at. 3) Are we even sure Trump is the less-bigger-government candidate at this point anyway? Trumpcare, Trumpstergarten, Trumpulus... The only issue he seems not to be to the left of Hillary on is immigration at this point. Posted by: Sayyid at September 14, 2016 09:06 PM (Wz+TY) 419
I hear you, Ace. And I was once you, albeit probably even more vocal with my disdain (if in my smaller theater of discourse).
These days? I'm on the Trump Train, baby. Two reasons: immigration and free speech. Even if he fucks up the first, and I don't think he will, his very presence in office will justify the second. A good america, and free america, is one where you can engage and troll and dispute and scorn and cheer -- and, yes, take a fucking stupid ass knee -- without consequence. That's the America I want to live in. A vote for Trump is a vote against safe spaces, and nannying, and special snowflaking. Posted by: Scout at September 14, 2016 09:12 PM (ukad2) 420
Trump is not a buffoon. He will go down as one of the greatest presidents evah. Seriesly.

Trump averages about 43 in the polls, Clinton 44

This is what I was asking for the other day when I was begging somebody to give me reasons to vote FOR Trump. You folks want to win, you'd better start persuading people rather than barking them down. Don't get me wrong, I still want you to lose - I just want the other side to lose a whole lot more. Children, children, children....Do you remember when you got your diapers changed on election night 1980?

Looking at the battlegrounds , there really is no way Hillary can lose. She has PA, WI, MI, NH, and VA locked up. CO is probably still locked up for her, too. If she puts money back into CO, then it's in play. But there simply is no path for Trump to win.

To Ace:
"Now you're telling me this buffoon could actually win?" Ace, I think people have told you many times that Donald Trump could/will win right here on this site. To the morons on this site who told me on another thread that Ace was all about Donald Trump. I ask, how does the quote above sound helpful? When I posted this link: http://www.claremont.org/crb/basicpage/the-flight-93-election/ you guys said to me that Ace was all about that and had already posted it for all here to read....maybe so but..... "Now you're telling me this buffoon could actually win?" Really? We have two choices in this election. Cankels. OR. Trump. If we get saddled with Hillary Clinton...It's on people like you Ace. Who's the buffoon Ace? jus sayin' ol' Posted by: olhardhead at September 15, 2016 09:27 AM (sOnfk) Processing 0.07, elapsed 0.0823 seconds. |
