Srsly, I agree that the Sunni Muslim Sucker Punch needs to be better taught. I'd say the same about Vietnam.
Nixon as of 1972 got South Vietnam to a state where (if supplied with ordnance) it could - and did - whoop the North's ass in a straight-up fight... and it would have to be a straight-up fight, because the Viet Cong had been whooped four years before that. I am no Nixon fan, but he did phenomenal work in Vietnam. So did the US (and Aussie IIRC) soldiers there. This should also be widely disseminated around the Asian communities, that the US fought on their behalf and were betrayed by the 1970s generation of Democrats. That ad was just stupid. I really didn't find it offensive. Just dumb and tasteless. What I do find highly offensive is having elected an 84 IQ, America-hating, Indonesian muzzie to the Oval Office (that he's not even eligible to occupy). Now, THAT was truly offensive, as as dangerous and nasty as all get-out. This mattress ad ... just a bunch of idiots - though I would give great odds that they were all Barky voters.

The dark side of the process of commemoration: If they put up a statue of you, sooner or later pigeons will shit on it, bums bathe in the fountain, and statutory rapes take place in its shadow. If they name a street, bridge, or housing project after you (don't laugh; my next-door Fair City did that for its most famous civic leaders), your name will be used as a curse as they deteriorate. A holiday? Best you can hope for is white sales, or a bad comic doing impressions to sell Kias.

The sad fact is that the muzzies have not had the world treat them nearly as good (and for no friggin reason) as they have since 9/11. 9/11 was the best thing to happen to islam. And since then they've been free to attack anyone they want, at will, and with each attack people in the West just bend over even more for them.

I like this take better than ace's mainly because I'm sick to death of having to be OUTRAGED over everything.
Do I think it's in poor taste? Yes Would I buy a mattress there? I'd probably think twice, esp. given that there are mattress stores on every fucking corner these days. But if it were a major inconvenience, I'd probably still buy there and let them know what I thought of the ad. Do I care if other people are outraged? Hell, no. I don't mind if people are outraged and want to express that outrage. What bothers me these days is that everyone seems to want to compel everyone else to feel exactly what he's feeling and express that at an equal or greater level. Sorry, but that's the real fascism. Consequences.
Actions have consequences. It seems like most kids have grown up without them- the forced "I'm sorry" at daycare or the playground when they did something officious, not really understanding what "I'm sorry" means, but saying it because Mommy won't get me a Happy Meal later if I don't. Because of this, I think, non-apologies are accepted as sincere by those foul types that say something reprehensible, but don't want the consequences for their vile spewings. (Basket of deplorables?) So, if this mattress shop goes out of business, that is just too bad. But it is a consequence of stupidity, and complete disregard for appropriate behavior. I think more people need some of that. Don't feel sorry for the mattress company.
The owner should have seen this and nixed it completely. For that it's worth, my guess is that it's a small firm, and someone had the brilliant idea of hiring inexperienced millennials to do something "fun" and perhaps "edgy." They got this, and the millennials, who probably have zero real life experience, convinced those in power that this is ok. Maybe they wanted to bring in younger people into the store; who knows what was on their mind. It's a big fail, and they deserve it. When you sign off on projects you get what you pay for. Why would anyone want to watch a football game at Bristol? I mean a race ok, but to be up in the nosebleeds of the stands the players have to be impossible to see.
Posted by: buzzion at September 10, 2016 08:46 PM (bMG0w) I'm with you on this. A little while ago, they showed a view from the end zone seats. You couldn't see the players. They looked like ants. This entire spectacle was dreamed up by the owners of Bristol. They have spent untold amounts of money to have the infield converted to a football field. All so that TN and VT can claim to have the largest crowd ever at a football game. While that makes me smile as I watch another record held dear by the evil Wolverines fall to the wayside, the actual football fan in attendance at Bristol is basically watching a game they are personally attending, on a giant tron. What fun. As a lifelong Nascar fan, I can tell you that the owners of the Nascar tracks are desperately trying to bring in enough revenue at their tracks now to pay the mortgage. And since it is no longer happening with races, they are turning to utilizing the tracks they overbuilt for everything else they can come up with to bring in gate money. I was at MIS two weeks ago for the August Nascar race and even with MIS having removed over 50% of the stands they had built during Nascar's peak, there were still many empty seats. Bristol three weeks ago had rain coming in the weather forecast, but it was shocking that half of the stands were empty. There are more people there tonight for this football game than attended the night race. It used to be you couldn't hardly scalp tickets for a Bristol race. So...the owners are turning to other events and trying to make it work. MIS hosts a huge four day country music festival in June, and hosts wine fests, carnivals, etc. in addition to Mudder competitions, etc. This thing at Bristol is supposed to now be an annual event for football. We'll see. My guess is a lot of people came for this one, but won't come back. Posted by: Jen the original at September 10, 2016 09:06 PM (PcpNP) 118

Jeebus, against long-standing policy to even comment on such comments, but BTH, no, not even close. And you are, without a doubt, one of the most knowledgeable and even scholarly people here, on things Middle Eastern.
The "occupation" of Iraq ended in 2005 (return of sovereignty) - waaaaayyy too early, disastrously so. Oh, semantic, you say? Yeah, kinda, for several years, as we still obviously carried the security burden and called the big shots. But the narrow point at issue is 2009. Iraq *was* not even close to being a funnel on the small end, at that time. Our "occupation" was truly long over, our presence was a 1/10 or less of its peak, our role was to support (and, unwritten, to serve as a guarantor of non-idiocy by the locals). In which role we were not taking casualties. Thanks to General Order No. 1, I'd guess that non-combat fatalities/injuries in Iraq in 2009 were averaging below what we have in Okinawa, or Germany, or Italy. And we had no combat casualties (I believe). The "war" was long won, and over. This is not even a close call, and it's not trivial, it's literally the most morally and strategically important aspect. We (collectively) threw away every bit of effort and sacrifice in Iraq. It's as despicable a failure as Vietnam - and even less excusable. Preserving our interests in Iraq as of 2009 would have required a tiny effort that wouldn't even be measurable against even one year's effort in Europe from '48-'68 or so. An easily maintainable situation greatly in our interests was just thrown away - by the absurd idiot children given power by the American electorate, in its degradation. That will ignite an economic boom to absorb the people coming off welfare. Enforce existing immigration law, including the H1bf "no domestic workers available" provision that's ignored.

I don't worry that the NFL players hate America. There are going to be bad apples in any organisation. The black players there are probably more conservative than most American blacks (picking on them because the whole refusal to stand comes out of BLM).
I am concerned with the NFL franchise owners, and with Roger Goodell, for coddling those bad applies. "Insidious bad apples" if you like. (I said it so y'all don't have to :^P) It's the NFL that takes the money and it's the NFL I want to punish, not JJ Watt or Von Miller or etc etc. Posted by: boulder terlit hobo at September 10, 2016 09:20 PM (6FqZa) Posted by: Anna Puma at September 10, 2016 09:20 PM (et0bf) 174

Here's what's happened, from The Weight of Glory:
"If you asked twenty good men today what they thought the highest of the virtues, nineteen of them would reply, Unselfishness. But if you had asked almost any of the great Christians of old, he would have replied, Love. You see what has happened? A negative term has been substituted for a positive, and this is of more than philological importance. The negative idea of Unselfishness carries with it the suggestion not primarily of securing good things for others, but of going without them ourselves, as if our abstinence and not their happiness was the important point. I do not think this is the Christian virtue of Love. "The New Testament has lots to say about self-denial, but not about self-denial as an end in itself. We are told to deny ourselves and to take up our crosses in order that we may follow Christ; and nearly every description of what we shall ultimately find if we do so contains an appeal to desire. If there lurks in most modern minds the notion that to desire our own good and earnestly to hope for the enjoyment of it is a bad thing, I submit that this notion has crept in from Kant and the Stoics and is no part of the Christian faith. Indeed, if we consider the unblushing promises of reward and the staggering nature of the rewards promised in the Gospels, it would seem that Our Lord finds our desires not too strong, but too weak. We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by an offer of a holiday at the sea. We are far too easily pleased." -C.S. Lewis Posted by: Christopher Taylor at September 10, 2016 09:43 PM (39g3+) 243

Posse Comitatus always applied only to federal troops, and the Army and Air Force now. The Navy and Marines are not mentioned, but regulations include them as though they were. It does not apply to the Coast Guard either, and it is allowed to do federal law enforcement operations.
And it does not apply to National Guard under control of the governor of state. An a governor can invite troops from another state in as well. A governor can send in troops to restore order, and enforce state laws. It also didn't apply when the Insurrection Act was invoked, and the conditions. They broadened the Insurrection Act in 2007 to give the President more leeway to invoke it, but repealed it in 2008. I spent over five hours today walking the beat in a large Boulder County town taking surveys and registering voters (well, one voter). Timely, I'm reading Taleeb Starkes "The Un-Civil War: Blacks vs Ni**ers: Confronting the subculture within the African-American Community."
page 222 "Time after time, the Black race-peddlers go out of their way to get offended by others to justify a national temper-tantrum. Expectedly, these race-peddlers' agenda isn't new. Booker T. Washington exposed them long ago. "There is a class of colored people who make a business of keeping the troubles, the wrongs, and the hardships of the Negro race before the public. Some of these people do not want the Negro to lose his grievances, because they do not want to lose their jobs. There is a certain class of race-problems solvers who don't want the patient to get well." Great book. No asterisks. Brutal. Should be read in every school. I respectfully disagree. At least I want my tax bill lowered, so you pay the freight for those eternal occupations. I don't want any part in them. Posted by: boulder terlit hobo at September 10, 2016 08:58 PM (6FqZa) You don't just occupy. You colonize, and the oil under the ground is yours, not theirs. And all the other resources. You graciously offer the locals a chance to work for a living, as they are being converted (at sword's point, if need be) to Christianity. And once the last practicing muzzie is several generations dead, then you start inculcating the people with the ideas of a representative republic. Had anyone "taken a knee" during the anthem more than a couple of weeks ago, it would have been taken as a deep religious gesture, at the most radical perhaps an expression of Quaker or Mennonite institutional pacifism. It's the identification with BLM sympathy that makes it so "timely." And it must have been some Soros-subsidized psychologist who came up with that notion, to take the wind out of the Tebow movement's sails. Muscovite minions don't do anything without a plan.
