5 Comey looks worse and worse every day - let me just say that if you were facing the SEC and you just happened to find some emails late in the process that clearly would have been discovered with any search criteria that was reasonable, welcome to Club Fed at a minimum.

7 So Grassley is waffling now eh? He has a fair ACU rating of 92 but I have never considered him a real hard core conservative. I had not counted on him holding out on this Obama BS judge appointment.

I wonder if the RNCe is getting ready to fold and this is the first indicator.

14 If bringing 10,000 Syrians to Detroit to rebuild the city is good economics here, wouldn't sending the 10,000 unemployable Detroiters to Syria to rebuild the country be good economics there as well? Why isn't the Syrian govt. clamoring for this?

FBI :

First, there are 9,000 jurisdictions in the election process and there is no way any government agency can take over that many political agencies in eight weeks.

Second, with the federal government's record of cyber security for the computer systems they run, over the last eight years, the FBI taking over the elections would not be an inprovement.

Third, who would trust a politizied federal government agency to control elections?

and lastly, if the FBI did take over the election, and for some inexplicable reason Obama was forced to stay on as President for Life, just until a free and fair, and honest election process could be created who would stop him?

We have nothing to fear from an uncertain future. The future has always been uncertain, and we have survived it.

If Hillary collapses campaign wise or physically, then I would give it better than even odds that the following will happen.

1. Massive problems during election day, especially in Democrat strongholds.
2. Problems blamed on Russian hacking who we all know support Trump.
3. Obama solemnly intones that we won't be stopped by this dastardly deed and voids the election.
4. NRO, GOPe, etc., declare their agreement with the move.
5. Election put off for one year while DHS takes over elections.
6. New Democrat/Republican candidates for next election.
7. Uniparty victory.

77 So Apple gets hit with a huge tax bill in a country they set up in to avoid taxes. Yet, they regularly support Dem/socialists here that endlessly demonize corporations and call for ever higher taxes on them. They might even have to raise the price on their already pricey products bought mostly by people that support higher taxes on evil corporations.

80 Glenn Reynolds (a.k.a. Instapundit) has a scholarly paper up that considers the possiblility of a coup d'etat here in the US.

I have the sense that he thinks it can't happen here.

I should go read it (.pdf file).

My sense, from the headline, is he thinks we have constitutional protections. A coup is an extra-legal process for changing a government and I don't think laws will stop anything that is outside of the rule of law.

If he is making the case that we, the people, would stop a coup, he misses the point. A coup is a decision by a group of people to use force to seize power, and it can only be stopped by another group of people who use force to stop it.

This makes the whole concept of 'rule of law' a myth. There is no law, there is only force. and 'the law' is only camoflauge that disguises the force behind the law.

I guess I should go read the thing and hope it isn't bound up in legal baffle gab. "Captain, we have to realign the sensor array to compensate for the changes in force structure that alter perceptions of what is legal and what is not. It will take too long, and it will all be overwith before we can achieve singularity."

83 I was pondering the popularity of SMOD yesterday. I think it goes beyond the wretched political choices this year, and to a deeper sense that an Extinction Level Event would be welcome because there is nothing left in our culture worth preserving.

Our political leadership is incompetent at everything but corruption.

Our institutions of higher learning have become insane asylums.

Our men have lost the thread of manhood, our women have become chubby hysterics with bad hair dyes.

Our music is wretched, our visual arts are garbage.

Our churches have become hollowed out shells, while our mosques rage with madness.

Until I read the deep-fried Jello story, I was firmly convinced our culture had nothing in it worth saving.

107 The presidential election could be delayed or scrapped altogether if conspiracy theories become predictive and a candidate dies or drops out before Nov. 8. The perhaps equally startling alternative, if there's enough time: Small groups of people hand-picking a replacement pursuant to obscure party rules.

The scenarios have been seriously considered by few outside of the legal community and likely are too morbid for polite discussion in politically mixed company. But prominent law professors have pondered the effects and possible ways to address a late-date vacancy.

"There's nothing in the Constitution which requires a popular election for the electors serving in the Electoral College," says John Nagle, a law professor at the University of Notre Dame, meaning the body that officially elects presidents could convene without the general public voting.

"It's up to each state legislature to decide how they want to choose the state's electors," Nagle says. "It may be a situation in which the fact that we have an Electoral College, rather than direct voting for presidential candidates, may prove to be helpful."

Here's a problem.

Let's say the Russians really ARE hacking American citizens in an attempt to boost Trump's chances. Skepticism is fine, but let's at least acknowledge that it's a possibility.

I can't see a way you could ever convince Trump voters this is true. What evidence would suffice? More to the point, who could present it? The government? The MSM? The conservative press (NRO, etc.)? All of those would be rejected. In fact, anyone who presented the idea would be rejected for doing so.

So we are left with a scenario where a foreign government is committing an act of war against the US, but a huge chunk of the population won't believe it. This is an enormous, unprecedented, chilling problem.

The interesting thing is that professors and political hobbyists like to spitball the most unlikely scenarios because that is where the really arcane stuff comes into play. That any of them say something "could happen" doesn't mean much at all beyond the word "could". The likely scenarios are boring, it is the most unlikely scenarios that are fun.

For instance a wealthy supermodel could fall madly in love with me. It could happen.

Congress had debated and rejected that change, but the Obama administration decided to move forward anyway, saying it was unilaterally imposing the restrictions.

Just uploaded another collection of short stories to Amazon over the week end; too late for the book thread.

Last story of six is titled 'The End', and it's stuff taken from real life and taken off this smart military blog. Isn't much science fiction in it, and it's not a happy ending. It describes, on a personal level, of the collapse of civilization as we have known it. (It looks like Mexico.) Any resemblance to real people, places, and events is purely coinencidental.)

I'll look up the amazon ID number if anyone wants it.

Yes, foreign governments (China and Russia in particular) launch thousands of hacking attacks every day. That's an issue that has gotten far too little attention. It must be addressed.

The fact that, at the moment, those attacks MAY be aimed at influencing the US election and that the level of distrust and division (on both sides, mind you) makes a response more difficult or even impossible is still worthy of note.

They don't. It's left wing propaganda
...

But what is that supposed to accomplish? Is it supposed to sway people that the Russians are so afraid of Hillary that they want Trump to win? Who is buying that?
The left doesn't think Russia is an enemy. The right doesn't for a second believe that the Russians would rather have Trump.
I guess that leaves the "independents"...the Bernie supporters who already believe the election is rigged, the undecided who think there is no difference between the two candidates, and the nevertrumpers who I doubt buy into Russia wanting Hillary.

I don't get the propaganda.

379 Here's a problem.

Posted by: person(a non grata) at August 31, 2016 09:02 AM (mFkVC)
