I think it's the lack of awareness and gratitude that make it so offensive. Part of the reason I love this country a lot less is because of the endless whining and entitled bad behavior of a really large part of my "fellow" countrymen.

Respect for the flag and the nation isn't respect for America the fallen.
It's respect for those that built, defended, and strove for the ideal America, America in the fullest. You're not saluting temporary errors like Wilson, Carter, and Obaka when you stand at attention. You're saluting the best of America and its promise. Posted by: weft cut-loop at August 29, 2016 12:35 PM (V3IFq) Posted by: garrett at August 29, 2016 12:35 PM (0vI5X) 18

But now that he's (1) Suddenly Muslim (B) conveniently black (iii) on the bench and soon to be cut, and (d) needs an explanation for (iii), he finds his religion, politics, and roots all at once. Honoring our National Anthem is a means of showing respect for what our country represents and the people who have paid to protect that freedom. It has zero to do with the assholes running and destroying it AKA "liberals".
Mr Douch Nozzle had no problem availing himself of the comforts and freedoms this country provided. It also didn't stop him from collecting millions of dollars for being an untalented asshole who fucking throws a ball for a living. Notice they're not doing that in most other countries. Meanwhile there is systemic racism and no freedom in those countries. But of course none of this cogency ever entered into the few synapses Mr Ass Clown fired. There is no fucking equivocation or justification. And frankly I would rather have my friends back who died defending our country than to watch this piece of shit steal my oxygen. That's before we get to his "argument" if you can even call that fallacious dribble an arguments. It's just some uneducated ball scratcher who happens to have a few million in the bank dumping the few brain cells he has into an angry, unjustified tirade. But you know, it's all part of freedom of expression or something. Yeah ok fuck you. These are the same pieces of shit who tell us The Second Amendment is outdated or something. You don't get to pick and choose your freedoms. We call that tyranny. The world and our country would be better off if he chocked on a dick. Tiger Woods, when he was an amateur and in college, referred to himself as "Caublinasian" (in reference to the ethnic makeup of his parents: Caucasian, Black, Indian (Nat. Am.), Asian.
But when he turned pro and suddenly become world famous, (as he later recounted in an interview) several prominent black sports star of that era (around 2000) "Sat him down" and "gave him the talk" that he MUST henceforth identify solely as "black" whether he wanted to or not, or else the Brotherhood of Black Sports Millionaires was going to ruinate his life. He said that they told him he needed to change his public identity to he could serve as a racial symbol -- he'd have much more power speaking as a "black" "victim," and also his prestige would add strength to the Black Power movement. Sol that's exactly what Tiger Woods did - -started calling himself "black." The only shocking part is that he admitted all this in an interview (years later, laughingly). I bring this up because Kaepernick was raised as white and lived in white culture and giver ever privilege and rock-star treatment growing up, and now suddenly he's all "I'm an oppressed black man!" Fixers Theorem. We used to have an overarching sense of Americanism that was, to use Aces vernacular, OUR TRIBE, that pulled us together to overcome our differences. That overaching sense of Americanism is being destroyed, which leaves us as balkanized little interest groups competing for social acceptance and quite frankly, social power. I wonder why there would be a desire to segment us all into little individual competing groups with no sense of common identity. Kapernick is symptomatic of that desire. And its working. Cause there is a little bit more than that story has. The video touches on it a little with the silly "Every team must be uniform." So if its not specifically connected to the team, like for instance the Raiders wearing the AD sticker after Davis passed away, its going to get denied. You're spot on with that theorem. I've compared it to high school writ large, except where they cast themselves as the cool kids. It's cliquishness, and they imagine themselves as the clique that rules the roost, where anything that's not in its proper orbit or that can't be categorized will be vilified and harassed. They are, in their rotten little hearts, an out-group that wants revenge on the society that ignored them. Where multiculturalism is concerned, it's particularly egregious with how they divide everyone into self-reinforcing stereotypes. It pretends at being tolerant, but it's the worst kind of racism. If you are X, you can only do X things, not Y, and certainly not Z, or it's "cultural appropriation". I don't know about the rest of the country, but I got tired of the jocks and nerds crap in high school and moved on with my life, and I damn sure am not going to bow to these imbeciles just because they managed to get a degree from an Ivy League school, from a system that rewards conformity, not excellence. This is becoming a Bay Area tradition. Recall when the Oakland Raiders proffered a similarly huge pay package to JaMarcus Russell, because management felt they simply had to have a black quarterback (lots of "agitation" in the local black community over that).
Russell didn't work out any better on the field than Kaepernick has. I recall one disgusted fan saying they needed to change the name of the team to the Oakland Freighters: large, slow, and costing a lot of money. I wonder if part of the problem with the sticker is that a couple of the black players on the team weren't going to wear it for the same reason Kaeperdick won't stand, and that's why they denied it. Because not every helmet on the team would look the same.

I can't think of anyone this far into an NFL career making a go of it. Cordell Stewart I think, played some wideout, but wasn't necessarily successful at it. Tim Couch (? I think?) won a Heisman as a QB and was drafted to play wideout, but never actually caught on. He's got the body for it. But the brain... that will be his undoing. Obviously. I have always thought the playing of the National Anthem was over done by playing it at every sporting event. But then I'm not sure when you would/should play it. National Championships maybe, Olympics certainly. And I would stand for it where ever it was played out of politeness, like bowing your head when someone wants a public prayer - just to be polite to those who believe in it. It's like the pledge of allegience. Those who would violate that oath would stand there with you and recite the pledge along with you, and stab you in the back without a moments hesitation. I know when I am inspired to battle my ideological opponents I first cut them a check and add my eyes to their "viewers" so they can shake down the networks. Colon Kaspernaski represents just about everything I loathe about the NFL these days, and I went from a multi-year Sunday Ticket buyer to watching 8 games a year to now I think maybe one a year if traveling. The quality of play in the NFL has declined immeasurably as the thug quotient has gone up.... I called Colon a poor man's Cam Newton here in this very blog back in the day and warned that both were two read scramblers but Gus Malzahn did a better job of hiding it with Cam. Cam Newton has evolved into a poor man's Steve Young and Colon has evolved into a Rich Man's Timm Rosenbach. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timm_Rosenbach If I wanted to watch MSLSD does sports I'd watch Ray Maddow giving the other zoo crew members wedgies. Posted by: Cantankerous at August 29, 2016 01:16 PM (326rv) I'm just going to say this: I always thought Tebow was too much of a ham, for the stand he was supposedly taking. Still, he was blackballed from the league. Of that I have no doubt. Still further though, if he really wanted to play baseball, he would quietly go to an organization and try to sign a minor league deal. Or go independent league. Tryouts for the majors? Shut up. Colin is in good company these days, with the NY fire department that banned American flags on its firetrucks (now somewhat rescinded), a public high school in SC that banned the flag in their stadium, as it was being used to 'taunt' hispanic opponents, and now the feds have banned all Confederate imagery at all federal cemeteries on Memorial Day AND Confederate Memorial Day.
Soon, I guess, we'll just be allowed to run a pair of granny panties up the ole flagpole and chant Hail Hillary. Posted by: GnuBreed at August 29, 2016 01:35 PM (gyKtp) 341
JFC, if the cause was even the least bit legitimate...
BLM is a complete joke. We're paying for all the social services, we're paying for the cops, we're paying for the prisons. Cops are responding to pleas from law-abiding citizens in the inner city killing zones, and terrified cops occasionally have to shoot armed suspects resisting arrest.... and WE'RE the bad guy. Fuck that. It's pretty clear BLM is nothing but an attempt to make being black a "get out of jail free card". How about instead we just cut-off welfare and end this cycle of dysfunction? Kap has stepped on his dic* is the most public way possible. He has all of a sudden decided to pretend he has been harassed and is now "black" rather then the bi-racial athlete who never made an issue of his race before.
Yup, he has a whole lot in common with the "average" black urban youth, sable foster parents and family, aka a dad at home, good grades, success in High School and College, and a brief but noticeable NFL career in which he almost won a Superbowl. The only common element, he never knew his biological dad, so that is like 85% of other black youth. Unfortunately for 49er fans and the rest of the country, Kap has proven even more inept at learning basic facts of crime/justice in America than reading opposition defenses. The "cosmologist" example is breathtaking in it's stupidity, but I bet it will resonate with far too many poorly educated black folks and haters anyway. Even much of the left has not tried to use a justification quite this stupid. I think Cap already knows he is done with the NFL, so this is a plan B, hatched by his agents to put the Yorks between a rock and a hard place. It also means that any team that does not pick him up is raccccist as well. Maybe he can work for the NFL ? If the 49ers cut him they are racist, ect. Of course, the Yorks and Kap are made for each other. Other than open his pie hole, Kap has done little, if anything to actually become part of the solution by working to help at risk youth anyway. Some of that $ 14 M in cash could surely help. Posted by: standfast24 at August 29, 2016 01:51 PM (PNFIr) 395

OT/ I preface this with saying Tebow is an incredible Christian and human soul. He also acted in a hypocritical manner by not playing QB in Arena League or the CFL to get experienece.
That said I did some research into his baseball is so easy I'll be playing for the Yankees by August 2017. This attitude among fortball players rubs me the wrong way (Bo Jackson loved baseball first and was incredible playing the game) I saw a picture of him throwing out the first pitch of a game and it looked ugly. I also found a video of him leaked on Reddit of him check swinging on a slider that almost hit him. That was ugly as well. His workouts have been from pitching machines throwing up to 95mph. The article about the former major leaguer praising him who has been throwing live to him recently said " I was impressed that his bat was on a level plane when I threw a slider. He went down for it" also a credit to his baseball skills was his willingness to pickup his own baseballs during a private BP sessions. This is something little leavers do including swinging on a level plane trying to hit the ball where it is pitched. UGH! It's annoying so I vent. I like Tebow the human. Tebow's ego, not so much. Ah yes, the girl who struck out Babe Ruth (and Lou Gehrig). Jackie Mitchell, btw, not Miller. There are still some conspiracy theories about that whole deal - was it a stunt? Was the Babe told to strike out on purpose? But I believe he was just caught off guard. Ruth struck out looking on a pitch that he didn't think was a strike, and he made a stink about it. Gehrig swung at 3 straight and I believe he was doing it as a gas - why not let the girl have her day? But no one will really ever know. Posted by: AstroBevo at August 29, 2016 01:55 PM (DZF+K) I don't bother to follow women's soccer because, why would I, but the impression I got was that Solo's comment was less about the character of the players, and more about the style of play. Now, it was dumb to say it the way she did, but I also can understand what it means, from the competitor's standpoint. It would be like calling your opponent in football cowards for employing a prevent defense late in the 4th quarter to preserve a lead, or calling a baseball team cowards for intentionally walking the other team's best hitter. Either the strategy is sound, or it's not. And in sports, that's all that matters. Posted by: BurtTC at August 29, 2016 02:00 PM (TOk1P) Posted by: Joe Niekro at August 29, 2016 02:00 PM (JBggj) 404

1. She was way closer than 60 feet 6 inches 2. She's a softball pitcher, so she was able to deliver the ball in a way that baseball players just aren't used to seeing So again, it was a publicity stunt. But I do think the right girl, who dedicated her entire life to it, could make it as a knuckleballer. Posted by: broseidon king of the brocean at August 29, 2016 02:02 PM (kumBu) 405

I'd say the media are not consistent but they really are - they consistently take the side of "blame America." Neither Hope nor Colin should be punished for expressing their opinions.

She gave them an excuse to weld the hammer because it was after the Olympics and she will miss a total of two games in 6 months. She is a hothead and beats up children.
Posted by: broseidon king of the brocean at August 29, 2016 01:58 PM (kumBu) Yeah, I've heard the story before. I think it was more stunt than anything else. Ruth, as they try to claim, was not a good breaking ball hitter, but that's just silly. Nobody hits a good breaking ball. To think Ruth couldn't hit this girl... it's just as likely he was drunk/hung over or took her too lightly, or was hoping to get some tail if he let her look good. If Tebow was a devout Muslim, all the attention would be on his "quest for the American Dream" and his "unwillingness to quit on his passion". If he can play, he'll play, if he can't, he won't. It would be near miraculous for him to ever make the Majors, but it was near miraculous that a guy like Tebow would win the Heisman and then go on to get a win in an NFL playoff game.

They put her up against some contemporary MLB sluggers and she was able to whiff them. But:
1. She was way closer than 60 feet 6 inches 2. She's a softball pitcher, so she was able to deliver the ball in a way that baseball players just aren't used to seeing ========================== that sports science show had a championship whiffle ball pitcher go up against a professional baseball player. Guy finally made contact after about 20 minutes. Whiffle ball is the awesome. Posted by: simplemind at August 29, 2016 02:04 PM (C6xeQ) 410

Posted by: simplemind at August 29, 2016 02:04 PM (C6xeQ) Which is why they don't sell out stadiums to watch millionaire wiffleballers play. Wiffleball pitching is a skill that non-athletes can master, and it's more boring to watch than soccer when they do. Posted by: BurtTC at August 29, 2016 02:07 PM (TOk1P) 411
Preferably:
a. A Large Black 49'rs Lineman picks him off the bench and makes him stand. b. A black referee UnSportsMan like conducts him every game. c. Someone in the 49'rs org straightens him out. d. Everyone ignores his punk-ass. e. Goodell fines the crap outta him. Posted by: DaveA at August 29, 2016 02:07 PM (8J/Te) 412

404 People might remember Jenny Finch, the hot softballer from about 10 years ago. They put her up against some contemporary MLB sluggers and she was able to whiff them. But:
1. She was way closer than 60 feet 6 inches 2. She's a softball pitcher, so she was able to deliver the ball in a way that baseball players just aren't used to seeing So again, it was a publicity stunt. But I do think the right girl, who dedicated her entire life to it, could make it as a knuckleballer. Posted by: broseidon king of the brocean at August 29, 2016 02:02 PM (kumBu) The thing with being a knuckleball pitcher is that you need a decent fastball and one or two other pitches for certain counts and situations. Also a great knuckball pitcher literally needs their own personal catcher so maybe her dad is behind the dish. Also, girls like baseball because they love guys that play baseball and the uniforms. They are cleat chasers/fantasizer first, and fans second. So I fail to see how this TV show can catch the girl audience. Maybe the fathers with daughters audience I can see, but we all know it will be the SJW full press. Posted by: Pepe at August 29, 2016 02:10 PM (uG7LM) 414

Posted by: BurtTC at August 29, 2016 02:03 PM (TOk1P) " IMO, he was sizing her up with his first few swings - he'd never seen her pitch before, so he didn't really know what to expect. I think he wanted to really get a hold of one - he didn't want a single, he wanted to hit one out of the park. But before he could, he took a borderline pitch and got called out on strikes. The ump was probably told to give anything borderline to Jackie, knowing it would be a bigger story if the wondergirl was able to strike out The Babe. Lou...who knows? He probably just half-assed it to give Babe some cover, or maybe he legitimately had trouble timing her pitches. Posted by: broseidon king of the brocean at August 29, 2016 02:11 PM (kumBu) 415

Speaking of non-athlete sports, we've got a guy who is trying to talk the company I work for into covering "Pro" Miniature Golf tournaments. He's been on about it for a couple years, but, of course, none of the "Leagues" actually have any money to hire us or any fans to watch them if they did. I told him I'll work for free the first match he gets scheduled for broadcast, confident I will never have to do it.

No one would call Wakefield's fastball decent, but it was enough to let his knuckler do its job. According to Fangraphs, in 2007, Wakefield threw his knuckler 98% of the time. In 2008? 99.6%. Now I know other guys use their fastball more - Dickey definitely does. But Wakefield was basically all knuckleball. And in 2007, his average fastball velocity was ~77 MPH. Even at his best, his fastball was 82-83. Posted by: broseidon king of the brocean at August 29, 2016 02:18 PM (kumBu) 418
How many yards did Cap throw for against the Packers on Friday night? The most expensive clipboard holder in the NFL decided to enter into a political controversy because he thinks that will make it harder for the Niners to cut him.
Maybe he should talk to Chris Kluwe about how the embrace of gay marriage extended his career when his net average per punt went into free fall. Posted by: NC Mountain Girl at August 29, 2016 02:22 PM (soEPC) 419

When the touch is not there and the knuckle ball has rotation and zero movement, he lasts a few innings and gives up a ton of runs. But I'd say Wakefields knuckle was one of the all time bests because it had to be. That was his big league talent. Dickey throws a fast knuckle ball. He was an incredible pitcher and was going to be drafted early first round but scouts noticed arm problems from the picture that made the cover of a magazine. I loved the documentary a few years ago about the Knuckleball BTW. Damn good. Posted by: Pepe at August 29, 2016 02:34 PM (uG7LM) 420
It would be interesting if the girl relied on strong finger nails and finesse since she was 5 learning to throw the knuckball with her father who was a bullpen catcher type story.

Actually, I think he's doing it *to* get cut. He's previously flat-out requested to get cut, because he believes his skills falling off a cliff were due to a coaching change or something. Posted by: Ian S. at August 29, 2016 02:37 PM (KUTP5) 422
The NFL, God love'em. They are so into free speech and warrantless searches. Touchdown celebrations. No. Taunting. No. Honor cops? Forget it. When you make it to the stadium, make sure you bring a transparent bag of the proper dimensions.
BLM stuff? Bring it on. Cancer. Sure. Pink it up. Black panthers? Sounds good. This whole BS makes me feel sorry for Tom Brady and I pretty much hate his ass. You know how I, a fat, old white guy would feel less oppressed? No taxpayer funded stadiums. Build your own. No tax breaks for pro sports. You don't need them you one percenters. Sports tickets/luxury boxes eliminated as an income tax deduction. Ordinary, necessary business expense my ass. Bring the free market to pro sports and see how much money is left for multi-million dollar salaries you spoiled prima donnas. And next time I'll tell you how I really feel. He has a daughter, and says screw it - I'm going to mold her into a knuckleball pitcher. If she actually makes it to the MLB, as an additional feel-good story, the team signs her dad and lets him catch her first inning. Father-daughter battery? Literally a made-for-the-movies story. Eventually the right will figure out that to avoid losing the game, you have to play by the same rules as your opponent. Winning? That comes later--after corrective surgery to repair gunshot-destroyed feet. For now, the right needs to concentrate on how not to lose (see Monty Python "How not to be seen").
Among other things, it means applying serious economic hurt to leftists and jello-backed corporations. Target? Good work. But why not all of Hollywood? Anybody with a Netflix account is simply not committed to defeating the ENEMY (notice that I did not say "political opponents"). Why is there not a campaign afoot to flush out and "Target" ESPN? Comcast? HBO? The list of lefty organizations that are actively undermining this country is nearly endless. Why not spend your money with the good guys instead? For God's sake, the brain trust at NRO and Powerline decided to use FartBook comments technology on their websites. How stupid is that? And who knows how many clueless tools on the right still give their personal data to FartBook, Twitter, and subscribe to LAT, WaPo, etc., etc., etc.? Face it, you become part of the problem when you patronize the enemy. And nobody needs to break it to you: the NFL? It's part of the problem. Pull their ticket and send them back to the leather helmet days, where a Kaepernick cannot get jockstrap cleaning duty. Posted by: Lawrence Larson at August 29, 2016 10:35 PM (gNKbf) 429
