Colin Kaepernick: The NFL's Newest Blithering Idiot [CBD]

CDR M touched on this last night, but there is nothing like pouring it on when the target is this easy to hit!

I don't know who Clay Travis is, because I don't follow football much, and don't much like it either. But I like this Davis fellow, who sounds suspiciously like a Moron, in the good way. Here he claims that Colin Kaepernick Is an Idiot, and backs it up with some pretty damning analysis.

Once you make the decision to enter the marketplace of ideas, in my opinion, you're obligated to put forward a coherent reason for your decision-making if you want to be taken seriously. Otherwise, I can feel free, thanks to this same first amendment that you're using to gain attention, to pronounce you an daft prima donna whose football talents have so deteriorated you aren't even capable of beating out Blaine freaking Gabbert to be quarterback. As if that weren't enough I can also say that based on your Twitter feed you look like a lost and psychologically unstable individual.

Kaepernick is the latest in a series of high-profile athletes/entertainers/trained monkeys who are under the mistaken impression that the number of followers they have on Twitter or Instagram is somehow correlated with their intelligence and their ability to provide insightful comments on a whole range of topics outside of their incredibly narrow areas of expertise.

If I want to learn how to cry on command or look pensively off into the distance or take steroids to bulk up for an important event or lip sync an entire concert or throw a tight spiral wobbling wounded duck, I will, absolutely, contact Brad Pitt or Meryl Streep or Madonna or Matt Damon or Colin Kaepernick.

But for political or cultural analysis I think that sticking with the far less attractive but far better informed among us is probably a good idea. And who would those people be? Judging by the blather coming out of our most famous among us, it will probably be a step up if I go to the nearest middle school and ask the kid who is reading in the library and doesn't have paste crumbs on his chin.

And speaking of injustice.....

43 The new Muslim trend seems to involve very attractive Muslim women forming a relationship/marriage with public figures and turning them into concerts or Dhimmni sympathizers.

They then gaslight their men to committ acts that will either lead to the destruction of their careers and/or lives (via a homicide of infidels)

Yeah, and I'm a liberal femi-nazi for watching soccer (which I'm doing now, of course, it's Sunday).

But the NFL thing, as well as college level, hurts more because it's a great American sport and destroyed by these jack holes. Like the NBA. Like so many sports.

I have no taste to watch it anymore, follow the stats, and contribute to them.

But if Kaepernick had said "hey, why isn't Black Lives Matter helping poor blacks in Louisiana whose homes have been destroyed by the storms", I wonder if the NFL's attitude towards him would be the same?

54 I don't care about Colin Kapernick. He has a First Amendment right and is free to use it as he deems fit. Even if he is wrong. And all of his critics have a First Amendment right to pronounce him an idiot and note that he sucks as a quarterback.

What I will object to is to the on coming slew of ESPN on-air "talent" that will beat their meat and call this act "the most courageous, bravest moment evah!". I can practically see Tony Kornheiser and Michael Wilbon doing a circle jerk over this on Monday.

At which point I would love for someone to hold up a picture of the D-Day Invasion and ask if ol' Colin K is more brave than these young men, many of whom are heading to their certain death. Or a picture of Sally Ride walking onto the doomed space shuttle. Or a picture of Pat Tillman.

But, alas, no one in the ESPN liberal conclave will do that.

Well he came within a hair's breath of winning one Super Bowl, and one bad decision away from going to another.

So no, not a "never was." You can't teach his skill set, but you can coach against it. The rest of the league figured out how to do that, and he, nor his coaches, have figured out what to do about that. He's been exposed as a dunce on the field. Now, his off-field activities match it.

75 From Kaepernick's wiki entry:

Kaepernick was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to Heidi Russo, a 19-year-old woman who was single and destitute at the time. His birth father, an African American, was out of the picture before he was born.[1][2][3] Russo placed her son for adoption with Rick and Teresa Kaepernick, a white couple who had two children--son Kyle and daughter Devon--and were looking for a boy after having lost two other sons to heart defects.

Hmmm.. a mix-raced child, very young white mother, older black father who quickly left, raised by white parents, lately a professor of victimology, likes to hate on America, where have we seen that before?

I have to wonder if ol' Colin isn't reacting somewhat to Sherman's comments. Sherman does, in fact, live rent-free, as they say, in Kaepernick's head.

Not me. I hate Nike with the heat of a thousand burning Suns. Every where you go, or every time you tune in sports on TV, you see their damned trademark on the front of some cock-holster's shirt. I refuse to buy any clothing, Nike or otherwise, that has the maker's name embossed in a prominent location, jeans excepted. And that exception has a two-fold reason. First being that a label in the form of a belt loop has been part of blue jeans right from the outset of the industry, and secondly, that label isn't in a conspicuous place from my viewpoint.

I am not opposed to commerce, free market, or capitalism, but if a business wants me to promote their logo, they can damn well pay me.

81 The craziest thing I learned from this scandal:

That Colin Kaepernick identifies as black!

I was like -- WHAAAAT???

I always thought he was white, from the photos.

Then I looked him up, and -- w0w -- EXACTLY like Obama, Kaepernick:

-- Had a white mother who (apparently) had a one-night stand with a (apparently) at-least-partly black man, who then disappeared after that one night and NEVER EVEN SAW HIS SON. The baby Colin was then raised entirely by his white mother in white culture and then adopted out to a middle-class white couple and then further raised entirely in white culture, until adulthood. He lived in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin and Turlock, California -- totally chilled out areas with no known black/white racial issues.

90 75 From Kaepernick's wiki entry:

Posted by: OregonMuse at August 28, 2016 12:38 PM (e3H8Y)

I am always struck by these kinds of stories for the simple fact that this guy was amazingly lucky. He was born into a shitty situation. A lot of girls these days would have had an abortion. He lucked out there and got placed up for adoption with a family who desperately wanted a boy. He got lucky there. He lived with a family who obviously fostered his talents on the football field. He lucked out there. Not even mentioning his God given talents.

And yet in spite of the many blessings this hamster has received, he chooses to whine about how terrible people have it here.

Yep, a true idiot.

147 Athletes usually have a "shoe collection" because their footwear is important to their performance. My middle MVP both sides playing football and lax player had cleats/sneakers for various activities because it does matter; ie turf/grass, practice/game, running, lifting, etc. Also athletic shoes need to "rest" between uses. So, for example, you wouldn't do speed workouts in the same shoes two days in a row. It ends up being a "collection" but not to the extent that this guy has by any stretch.

149 I liked Tebow until he refused to play Qb in the CFL and would only entertain NFL offers. Comes accross has a hypocritical. Christian drowning in pride.

I'm not a fan of his recent baseball is totally easy because I was good my Junior year in high school 12-13 years ago so I can totally play in the majors because hitting a baseball is the easiest thing to do in sports.

I saw his swing and it's all upper body and terrible. Like I said yesterday, a 4 seam fastball in the 80's he can without a doubt crush because he knows it is coming but there are at least a dozen pitches he will have to learn to hit at the pro level. Plus, he can only play a corner outfield position. I bet he is slow, and I bet his arm is below average.

Go play in the CFL or Arena league Tebow. If it is good enough for Kurt Warner it's good enough for you.

Outfielders throw in the mid 90s to high 80's. I meant slow in a sense of his reaction time and first step in the field will be slow.

A few hops and uncork and you can really get some velocity. Could they do it 100 times in a row? Absolutely not. Could they hit an 18" square with that throw? No. But they can hit a catcher at 250+ feet without a bounce.

Yep. It's called a "crow hop" and is performed at the conclusion of a running steps, so that the player has his entire weight moving forward, then stops suddenly as he delivers the ball, so all of his momentum is transferred to the ball.

I'll go check my work but if outfielders were throwing 120 they would be relievers not outfielders.

A big factor for hitters is vision and reflexes. Vision, to pick up the spin on a pitch, ideally in the first 0.1 sec, and the reflexes to catch up to a 95 mph fastball without being hopelessly vulnerable to an offspeed pitch.

Screwing around, I faced a friend who recently graduated from college as a pitcher, and who threw in the low 90s. We couldn't get on the baseball field, so we went to a Little League field, where he threw tennis balls to me - from 45 feet.

Now he wasn't throwing full speed; he was throwing maybe, say, 75 mph. But from 45 feet, instead of 60 feet, it was the equivalent of 100 mph in terms of reaction time.

The first half a dozen went right by me, and then as I dialed it up, I started fouling off pitches to the offhand side, until finally I could hit the ball back up the middle (still couldn't pull it, however), largely by starting my swing as he delivered the ball.

Then he threw me a change-up. I almost hurt myself swinging at it, and just about screwed myself into the ground like Bugs Bunny.

179 According to batters, a real hot fastbal, over 100 mph, is nearly impossible to even see. Its moving so fast it just about teleports, you can hear it burn by you. And the ball seems to rise with the best of them, making it even harder to hit.

They claim the rise is a perception issue; that you expect the ball to drop x amount by the time it reaches you and is moving so fast it doesn't drop that far, so it seems to rise. But some extremely good hitters with amazing eyesight say the ball rises, and I trust them. After all, for ages, physicists said that a ball can't curve until they discovered the magnus effect caused by the spin of the ball.

I dunno about physicists saying that. I believe that was journalists.

And a thrown ball cannot rise - it lacks sufficient backspin. A batted ball, however, can rise.

Apparently it is physiologically impossible for the eyes to slew fast enough to track the last 15 feet or so of flight of a pitch (which would necessitate a slewing rate of ca. 6000 degrees/sec), which is why late movement is so important.

As a scientist, and a ball player, I've have a number of books on the physics of baseball. Maybe they would be of interest to some for the book thread.

Also, re catching up with a fastball, here's a fun site: http://www.exploratorium.edu/baseball/reactiontime.html

Right, but it wasn't understood how a baseball could generate that until very recently. It wouldn't if it was smooth

I'm not so sure a ball can't rise. Remember, people said a ball can't curve either, physically impossible. And it wasn't just journalists, it was scientists who said the ball can't do that. Granted they were the usual pop scientist types, the Bill Nye/NDT sort, but guys with degrees in science.

185 I was behind the dish until age 30 and have a little understanding of the game FWIW. Also my last year playing ball I moved from behind the dish to right field and my hitting collapsed FWIW.

Tebow has not played a game in 12-13 years. He will be able to barrel BP when he knows what pitch is coming. He will be lost in the field during a game because he will have slow reactions. He throws like a catcher because he is muscle bound. He is all upper body. He does not look limber.

I will say this. He has very quick hands through the strike zone, but his swing is long and all upper body. He does not appear to be able to throw his hips at the ball because he seams to approach hitting with the mentality that he is all upper body and had to be to keep his weight back in an extreme form because he can't ajust to the spin of the ball out of the pitchers hand.

If he wanted to play baseball he never should have quit afterhis junior year. So that tells me he loves football and is meh about baseball. You can't be meh about baseball and succeed on any level.

It's an evil pitch to receive as a catcher. Imagine a pitch in the low 90's to high 80's that breaks down and either to the left or right with the spin of a knuckle ball. I dreaded catching the splitter because you don't know if it's going to hang or break left or right in the dirt.

What is far worse on arms is the year round baseball teams destroying the arms of kids. That is why Tommy John surgery has spiked. Also if you year your UCL before you stop growing then surgery is pointless until you have stopped growing.

Those baseball farms are a racket. A kid with a pop time of 2.2 his senior year would not even start on a JV team but they pump up the parents telling them he can play a holarship college ball. SMH.

198 Greetings:

One of the things that my parents (one male, one female) spent some time and effort transmitting to me, mostly through repetition, was their concept of hospitality, how one acts as a host, and how one acts as a guest. So, my analysis finds dear Colin to have violated his employer's hospitality by creating this distraction while he was on the time-clock. In essence, he has taken the time he sold to them and converted it to his own demented purpose. What he does on his own time is his own business. When he uses his employer's time to inflict his juvenile socio-political views on his employer's customers is abuse.

The mealy-mouth responses of today's so Progressive NFL are unsurprising. It has been permitting its players to wear those divine little skullcaps they have affected for the last too many years during the playing of our National Anthem without a mention or attempt at correction.

Lastly, I recall my father mentioning to one of my associates who went beyond his pale that "Next time you see your parents, tell them I said thay still have some work to do."

Some of the money is guaranteed, but his employer would still probably be better off seeking a cheaper backup QB with fewer locker room issues.

There was a punter a few years back whose career was on the decline when he embraced gay marriage and then (unsuccessfully) raised a stink when he was cut. Since no one else picked him up off waivers his team (Vikings) had a good argument his release was because of performance on the field.

207 Seems likely, I have heard his performance is down so far he was going to get cut one way or another.
