Heh...pre cheap cell phone days, I had a gig as an overnight telephone answering service operator.

Talk about dull.....except, except, for a few fun calls we'd get from time to time.

Archdiocese of Boston - at 3 in the morning, we'd get people calling in, and before you knew what was what, they'd start in with a confession.....

Picked up for Planned Parenthood - that was depressing.....

Picked up for a lawyer who was representing the LGBTQXYZ folks wh shut down the St. patrick's Day Parade one year. Got a phone call from a man who was explaining that 'Celitc Defiance' would be certain to bring justice to those responsible, and suggested that, as I sounded like a nice young man, I'd do well not to work for that dirtbag lawyer any longer. When I explained that I was just with the answering service, the guy said, "Oh, son, I'm so sorry; I didn't know. Would you be good enough to pass along my message?"

I once had surgery that involved removing a bunch of infected tissue from my chest wall, so for the subsequent couple months I had a pocket extending in from below my armpit (initially about 5in deep) that had to heal from the inside out; it had to be cleaned out and repacked with gauze twice a day. At first a nurse was coming out to do it, and my wife did it once and decided it wasn't her thing, but once I figured out what was involved I just did it myself.

Posted by: @votermom at August 26, 2016 10:53 AM (Om16U)

Problem with that is dosage and administration. Glass cartridges for syringes come in standard doses(one size fits all). Kid has anaphylactic reaction to something in class, you now are expecting a teacher to be able to know how much of a dose to give via giving a half or 3/4 cartridge or a full cartridge, and most importantly, making sure the needle only goes into muscle and not into a vein while you have a kid starting to pass out , choke or seizure.

Put epinephrine into a vein and you've got major problems.

The epipen is much safer for non medical person to administer because it is simply a thump into the thigh, that one can do themselves.

I missed my junior year of college with rotator cuff injury that didn't require surgery. Well, the whole shoulder was FUBARed. Tendinitis, bursitis, impingement, muscular deterioration, etc. No surgery, just lots and lots of physical therapy.

Fast forward a decade plus and the pain has gone from annoying to a serious impediment to everyday life. And yeah, it's my dominant arm.

votermom, I think it would depend on your personality whether or not you would like the job. I suspect there are times of boredom when nothing is happening, but then I also suspect there are times when the stuff is hitting the fan and you have to deal with it.

Then there are the sad and/or hysterical calls dealing with who knows what horrible thing. I think I would be okay during the call but then I wouldn't be able to sleep at night.

Of course, you would get the occasional nut job complaining about the chicken nuggets at McDonald's or what have you.

Not helpful, I know.

The AG had whack-jobs calling up at all hours, spouting the most insane stuff about mind-control, etc.

But that FBI account was weird. We'd get guys calling in whose only messages were strings of numbers. They'd read us some numbers, we'd read them back, then we'd call another number, and somebody would ALWAYS pick up on the second ring.

How long have these things been around? I seem to remember them from at least 10 years ago. I would assume that the development costs have been recouped a long time ago.

Here's my modest proposal. The Zetas and other foreign based drug cartels could get a lot of good PR (which would translate into loss of political support for drug enforcement budgets) if they started manufacturing epipens in Mexico or somewhere else in an area they control and then smuggling the epipens into the US. Once they have the factories set up, they could also start a line of heroin autoinjectors for people who would like to become junkies but who are afraid of needles.

Humilin R or NPH has two. NovoNordisk and Lilly. A bottle of the Lilly R product will run you in the mid 100s. A bottle of Novolin R will run you north of 200.

But here's an interesting thing. Novo partnered with Walmart to offer a discounted product. It's marketed under the brand ReliOn. The only difference, and I mean the only difference, between the two is the tiny little ReliOn graphic at the bottom of the box. Cost, over the counter no insurance, on the ReliOn insulin? Less than $25.

Heres some dirty little secrets on the new systems.

R410 is not as efficient a refrigerant as the old R22.

The pressures run about 15% higher than the old systems, shortening the life of equipment. (Applies to cars, freezers and refrigerators too)

To ring every ounce of "energy savings" in the new systems, they are required to remain at full operating pressure to immediately blow cold air. There is no more ramp up time. This also shortens the life of the equipment.

R410 was developed as an alternative to "save the ozone layer". Now refrigerants are being evaluated on their "contribution to global warming". Old R22 has a global warming damage index of 6. The R410 gas a global warming index of......... 93. A NEW refrigerant to minimize global warming will be released and required just as the patents on 410 will expire. Coincidently Im sure.

I particularly hate WC claims. We litigate every single claim, and even went so far as to file a private fraud suit against one egregious claimant, amazing his scumbag lawyer. My basic attitude is to fight hard against these thieves.

Generally, I'm way past the point of loving my business any more. The regulatory claims on our engineering and production practices are fucking unbelievable, And, don't get me started on the crazy tax rules.

Owning a business is adult day care. I'd sell in a heartbeat now, if I could find a reasonable price. Which requires me to actually go look for one...

251 New concerns arise about the mental health of students on college campuses all across the country.

Dr. Gene Beresin, a psychiatrist and Executive Director of The Clay Center for Young Healthy Minds at Massachusetts General Hospital, says 50% to 60% of college students have a psychiatric disorder.

That's not that surprising if you look at what researcher Jonathan Haydt wrote about how colleges are actually promoting neurosis. He explained that classic neurotic behavior is obsessing on small "insults" and building small incidents into bigger ones that provide an emotional incident which the neurotic finds hard to "get past". Thus by instructing students to look for micro-aggressions and how to take vehement offense at anything slightly suspected to somehow be "racist" or "sexist" or excluding, is in fact doing the opposite of what a therapist tries to do for a neurotic.

253 Laughing because my outrageously affectionate and declawed cat has somehow totally intimidated the 2yo grandson. If the cat even looks at him crosseyed, he backs off, while he treats the dog as a sibling. His own very elderly cat he treats as a sibling, but my cat is scarey. Go figure.

One of my cats was nothing more than 7 pounds of declawed fluff, and my kids were absolutely terrified of her because she would bite and wrap herself around their ankles and rabbit punch their ankles with her hind feet which were not declawed. A dozen times a day, one kid or another would whine at me to rescue a toy from the cat because she was sitting right next to it and none of them were willing to wade in and get the toy. That cat truly, truly hated kids.
