Problem: Trump Not on the Minnesota Ballot, and It Looks Like He Can't Get On It

He has until the 29th to put his name on the ballot, but Minnesota rules require the names of ten electors, and ten alternate electors, be submitted as well.

Minnesota didn't officially elect alternate electors.

And some guy says there's not enough time to call a snap convention to elect them.

Also, before everyone starts:

Donald Trump's name will appear on Minnesota ballot, a state official said, after its initial absence from the secretary of state's website caused minor alarm in Minnesota GOP circles.

"We just received the last item," said Ryan Furlong, communications director for the Minnesota Secretary of State, about Trump's paperwork. "We were waiting for a pledge from one of the alternate electors. The filing is complete and the Republican ticket should be listed on our site shortly."

Closest thing I remember was the VA primary ballot -- as I recall, VA has some very stringent requirements (something like 15,000 signatures needed from each congressional district, in order to get the candidate on the ballot). The only campaigns that were able to get it done were Romney and Ron Paul. RedState BREAKING. Donald Trump Is Not On the Ballot In Minnesota

It might be sheer incompetence or it might be a clever ploy by Trump to avoid a Mondale-esque 50 state blow-out by deliberately not appearing on the ballot in at least one state so he can say he didn't lose there.

In 9mm you need to size your brass larger. 9mm brass is thick because high pressure round, the thicker brass will squeeze a lead round. I made a custom expander so the brass doesnt swage the lead down. I size all my 9mm lead to 358.

Speaking of which, last week at the range a guy showed me two targets (through his scope, @ 200 yds) with the hits from two different loads (.223 for an AR). One used H110, one used W296. First was hits-touching close, other one was a slightly spread out grouping. Odd, because I believe the two powders are literally the same, made by the same factory in FL, and packaged/sold under different labels.

Presumably, illegals who committed serious offenses (in addition to immigration violations) in the USA would not be permitted to return. Now, it seems that Trump's position is that the "good" illegals will not need to be deported before returning to the country legally. 322 "Touchback amnesty" is a false concept based on ignorance of immigration law. Deportation (as I will now drearily and annoyingly repeat every time the word is used) is a normal, basic, mundane part of immigration law, here and in every other country. Currently, deportation does not automatically fatally prejudice one's options for legal immigration at a later time.

So, if illegals are deported (they are, it's happening today, it happened yesterday - it's just not happening nearly enough, and the more important collateral things like employment enforcement and the vast network of lawless special privileges, formal and informal, sustain the mass illegal migration disaster), they can still apply for legal immigration.

It is not "amnesty" of any sort to *not* bar previous deportees from subsequent legal immigration options. It is current law.

So "touchback amnesty" is a nice marker for those who don't understand the issue, or the law.

Saying, "I hear you and I will help you. Trump will not" rather than "shut up and vote for me, you serfs!" could have put Trump back into his yuuge office suite in Trump Tower.

Of course they can apply, via the normal channels. The point of a touchback amnesty plan is to give them priority for re-entry.

This was Trump's position:http://tinyurl.com/o8v2j85

"Trump said Wednesday in an interview with CNN's Dana Bash that as
president he would deport all undocumented immigrants and then allow the
"good ones" to reenter the country through an "expedited process" and
live in the U.S. legally, though not as citizens."

339 Revenant, thanks. So, to focus as ever on specifics, the "expedited process" would be 1) a statutory change requiring congressional action, or 2) a lawless/legit EO (not sure where that would fit, and it might be a close call, or maybe not, just not sure).

So ..... to recap, if "current laws are enforced" (to some practicable, reasonable extent), there will in fact me a large-scale departure (mostly independent of deportation proceedings), with the possibility (uncertain for process reasons, as noted above) of illegals.

Not that the ship isn't capsizing for many other reasons as well, but that situation above would be a radical, sane movement back towards rule of law and fairness the likes of which we haven't seen since the very first, non-pernicious steps of the civil rights movement.

Like I said: you own Trump. If he wins, you get to laugh triumphantly at all of us convinced he's just another in a long line of low-rent demagogues. You'll get bragging rights forever. You were right. We were wrong.

If he loses, cowboy up andtake the blame for foisting off on us the most disastrous candidate of either party in decades.

342 The first thing I thought of was issues with the electors. Most states handle "major parties", which the GOP and Dems are, differently than other groups; basically, they get enough votes each time around to qualify for ballot status. That's why the Libertarians and Greens are always having problems getting on ballots, because they don't usually get the votes to clear those hurdles.

However, each state also has a process for registering electors; those are the people who actually send in the votes to the electoral college. I assume that with the GOP and Dems, it's a pretty rote process, with the same group doing it every 4 years until they age out or move. I was expecting the problem this time to be some kind of issue with a NeverTrumper who didn't want to sign up, and they hadn't realized it and gotten someone else. That, or whatever flunky was supposed to collect that information forgot.

Sometimes it's good to feel like everyone's out to get you, because at least some of the time you'll be right, but I also have heard the following expressed:

"Never ascribe to malice that which can be attributed to stupidity."

359 "Trump said Wednesday in an interview with CNN's Dana Bash that as
president he would deport all undocumented immigrants and then allow the
"good ones" to reenter the country through an "expedited process" and
live in the U.S. legally, though not as citizens."

That is what I am talking about when I say touchback amnesty. I'm talking about Trump's plan to deport all illegals, and then let the "good ones" back in legally.
Posted by: Revenant at August 25, 2016 01:15 PM (3DSAh)

The current law in the USA prohibits anyone deported for breaking our immigration laws to reapply for rentry for at least five years if you were refused upon entry, or ten years if you were caught here as an illegal and a court ordered you deported.

Trump cannot change those laws, only the Congress can.

What Trump can do is promise to work on legislation that provides exemptions or reductions in the wait time for specific cases. Which he may very well get done.

His comments to Hannity last night, unfortunately, are another dumb move from someone within the campaign that is urging him to come up with some kind of amnesty for specific illegals. You either enforce the laws or your don't. If someone is here illegally, then you either prosecute them, which should result in them being deported, or you are giving them amnesty from prosecution in exchange for them paying a "fine" or "taxes" or whatever.

It's wrong, and I'm disappointed, but not surprised. As John Bolton just said on Outnumbered, this is the only way he is going to get support from moderate Rep. and from some leaders in the Latino community.

And how do you establish an amnesty program in which this person or that person gets to stay, but that person doesn't?
Answer: You don't. Can you imagine the immigration lawyers on how the law is applied unequally in that case? So you have to give amnesty to everyone.

So it's Ronald Reagan and 1986 all over again, with giving legal status to millions of illegals. And if Trump is elected, then watch the fight with Congress, etc. over building a wall, enforcement, etc.

And nothing will change.

Hillary is making hay out of this by the way. She pointed out that Trump changed his position three times yesterday and I'm beginning to think she's right.

360 I'm just hoping the NeverTrump folks spend all of their money on lawsuits in Minnesota trying to keep him off the ballot. More money on lawyers means less money spent promoting their fake candidate.

Posted by: Noizy at August 25, 2016 02:15 PM (IqiCz)

361 The Stein campaign is fighting with MN to get her VP's name on the ballot too. Hillary just got on the ballot 9 days ago apparently. MN looks like a shit show, but somehow this reflects poorly on Trump? Lol, yeah sure.

365 You know, it would be nice if we had a candidate who was disciplined and planned ahead his every move.

If only we had a candidate like that in the primary...

Oh wait, that's right. He was tossed aside because he was just a corporate crony who would sneak in "amnesty" on us by claiming it wasn't amnesty, right?

Posted by: makatta at August 25, 2016 02:41 PM (Y7Qzg)

366 I guess Minnesota Statue 208.03 isn't so much a law as a guideline they will waive for anyone in a major party.

Oh well, who cares what the law is...
We got our "Law and Order" candidate on the ballot; and damn what the law says!

Irony, it makes my fillings hurt.
