Trump is just breaking the surface with the school argument. He needs to step it up a notch by saying things like:

"Democrats have been running your schools for 50 years and only 1 in 4 of your kids can read, write or make change for a dollar."

Then he needs to tie it together by saying:

"Keeping your kids ignorant and poor keeps democrats in business."

Later, he can get into the Social Security aspect, which will get blacks rioting in the street.

Here's what is kind of interesting. I've become a LaTimes poll junky. Updated every day. It has huge breakdowns by a ton of variables.

So, Trump delivers his speech reaching out to the African-American community. His numbers, in that demographic move from 4% to 14%. I have an OMG moment where I extrapolate that across the entire country. But then something interesting happens. He begins, simultaneously to lose support from the middle class. Within days he's back to square one, then losing ground. The African-American support seems to be holding, but the middle class *might* just be perceiving this as a zero sum game, where if one wins, another loses.

The answer? Damned if I know. I'm only presenting it in hopes that someone else can figure it out and relay how to thread that needle to the Trump campaign.

96 We have a national abbreviation crisis here, and there's no excuse for it.
After all, when two-letter computer-compatible state abbrevs were new, Nebraska was NB, and the first time their mail ended up in New Brunswick, that got fixed tout-suite.

"La." is the good-old for Louisiana. LA is the approved 2-bit. But "L.A." they tell me is a major city somewhere. "LA" gets read as "L.A." and you have to go for the context to tell them apart. That's not sustainable, as LA gets more like LA.

I liked the Hitchcock movies where it was pronounced "Loss Angle Ease."
Never heard "Nawlin" in a movie until the 70's, even the ones set there.

I expect Louisiana is going to have to become LU.

All Trump has to do is explain Social Security.

When he tells people that it started off OK, but later, the democrats changed it. Reagan and Bush both tried to start Individual Savings Accounts, but democrats blocked them.

Black men die earlier than white women. So, black men work for 45 years or more, contributing a total of 15% of their income each year, and then die early before receiving hardly anything.

If they owned the retirement account like Reagan and Bush proposed, the money would be inherited by their families and they would build wealth.

Try to convince blacks that this isn't the reason they are at the bottom of the economic scale after explaining it. All professional victims need is a villain to point to.

For some reason, people think that blacks can move enmass from republican to democrat, but not back the other way. This isn't the case.

Not necessarily correlated. I heard a lot of Asians are going Trump because the Dem pandering to blacks and Hispanics generally means Asians lose. Middle class likes stability. So long as Hillary can paint herself as stability, more of the same-old same-old even if it's slow, she'll pull the middle class. Europe has been sliding into a shithole for years. Trump either needs to reinforce an image of stability or convince a majority that things suck hard and will suck worse unless he's elected. Or a little of both.

alex, I don't know if you saw the art thread earlier today when I was talking about this, but I have two girls who have birthdays 4 days apart (different years). One story I didn't relate earlier is that when my husband changed jobs two years ago, and he was signing up for the new insurance, he mixed up their birthdates. Got the right year for each one, and the months were the same, but switched the days.

A couple months later one had to be admitted to the hospital and they asked her six times in one hour what her birthdate was. Then they asked me a couple days later before we left.

It wasn't for at least another month that we all figured out what the problem was.

While polls are interesting, but don't treat it as the holy grail. What was the demographic makeup? % of dems vs repubs? etc.Despite the polls claiming to be of "likely voters", it doesn't mean squat. This isn't even about polls being purposely skewed.
Turnout on election day matters.

I don't think the participants in this poll are average voters. They are being asked every day who they will vote for. I suspect that they are therefore perhaps paying a little more attention.

For the life of me I can not fathom lower to middling middle-class voters voting for a woman who will fund her administration on their backs. Trump has basically said to this group, 'you won't pay taxes' while Hillary has said, 'you'll pay more'.

It was a movie where you could tell that people were fighting over the mood/tone/direction. And the plot really just did not make sense even by comic book movie standards. I'm usually pretty good about turning my brain off and just enjoying it for what it is, but I couldn't do that this time.

They either shouldn't have had the Joker involved at all (because that character steals the show every time here's on screen), or have him play a more central role to the plot instead of just being plot-deviced away after every cameo appearance.

163 For some reason, people think that blacks can move
enmass from republican to democrat, but not back the other way. This
isn't the case.

Posted by: jwest at August 23, 2016 02:12 PM (Zs4uk)<<

Unfortunately, history shows that blacks are quite hesitant to move enmass away from the Democratic party, even when Democrats shaft them. Look no further than the Democratic politicians who have run almost every major urban US shithole. Blacks have never, ever voted out those Democrats. And probably never will.
That's because the Democrats tell them what they want to hear.

I'll see your 1500+ sample size and raise you polling that includes a Voight-Kampff questionnaire.

When we have 1500 people who've answered both who they'd vote for and what they'd do if they saw a little boy with a butterfly and a killing jar, *then* I'd say we're getting some authentic data...

170 I'm not a big fan of campaign "minority" voting blocs. That's a Democrat thing, anyway.

My .02 is that Trump really needs to convince the middle class (and there is a yuuuuge black and hispanic middle class out there), that for their children and grandchildren's sake, our country's economic system cannot endure four more years of the status quo.

Hillary Clinton offers nothing but four more years of graft, cronyism, and industrial-strength lies from the White House. It's time for a change, and D. Trump is the CHANGE candidate for president.

Goddammit man, I KNOW LA is Louisiana. In the news and comments, you cannot tell that from LA the city in California. I'm saying that, like Nebraska (was NB, now NE), the postal code is going to have to change. Because (IT'S FUNNY BECAUSE) you can't tell them apart.

It's a good opening line, but too easy to just bat away with another clever line.

The only way to get a tidal wave is to give them a villain to point to. They need to hear the conspiracy that worked against them that kept them in poverty and their children uneducated.

Because God knows it isn't their fault.

The Faustian bargain the democrats made with the Teacher's Union explains why their kids can't read.

The Social Security thing explains why they never seem to have accumulated any wealth.

Simple to understand and it points very clearly to who should be swinging from the light posts.
