73 Things are getting interesting at Fox:

Andrea Tantaros is suing for sexual harassment, claiming Fox is "a sex-fueled, Playboy Mansion-like cult.

Among those aside from Ailes she claims harassed her (but she isn't suing) is Bill O'Reilly, who she said asked her to stay at his Long Island home and told her he believed she had a "wild side."

She also claims former Sen. Scott Brown "made a number of sexually inappropriate comments to her" while filming on set last August, and put his hand "on her lower waist."

Thankfully many are painted topless, so we can accept them more easily I guess? Of course there are the fallen angels, devil in a red dress types ... to confuse us I guess.

so far, everything sounded like flirting, but men are so dumb to even flirt in the office these days

it happens everywhere, all of the time, especially if you are as pretty as she is

I guess they have to prove it hindered her career.

In many cases, it's the beauty that enhances it. Beautiful people, both men and women, get ahead. The reason? The beauty.

I guess they have to prove it hindered her career.

In many cases, it's the beauty that enhances it. Beautiful people, both men and women, get ahead. The reason? The beauty.

123 Some Renaissance paintings seem static to me, not lively. However, in this one Botticelli's use of color and the flow of the clothing, even Mary's halo, is pleasing. I wonder if it was even brighter when first painted. That would really open the viewer's eyes.

I'm sure there is a ton of symbolism in the painting that would make it even more evocative to Botticelli's audience. Time for a little research.

152 Donald Trump's promise Tuesday to appoint a special prosecutor to
investigate the Clinton Foundation makes one thing clear: Hillary
Clinton may be going either to the White House or the Big House.

Trump is suggesting that he will take charges of criminal wrongdoing
by Clinton very seriously, unlike, of course, the Obama administration.

It's not justthe Clinton Foundation and possible influence peddling
at the State Department that is ripe for investigation. Trump can easily
revisit FBI Director Comey's decision not to prosecute Clinton over her
mishandling of classified information by using a private email server.
Her attempts to cover her tracks could prompt charges of a coverup and
obstruction of justice.

First reaction? AWESOME!

Do they go in at 4AM only when it is a dangerous criminal likely to be armed with other gang members and this is the best time to make it happen without casualties on either side? Are 4AM warrants executed on "armed and extremely dangerous" felons, or do they sometimes happen to low risk targets that could easily be scooped up when they come out of their house?

Do they only shoot dogs that attack them or act aggressively? I am a total dog lover with a pit bull who would certainly run downstairs and bark at someone trying to enter the house. But I wonder, when cops move in on a target that may well be armed and use deadly force, can they afford to take the time to fend off a charging dog?

These aren't rhetorical. I can guess at the answers, but I don't really know and would like to. The public may need to be educated.

257 So the potential polling problems. RCP has Trump down ~5 in battleground states ... BUT, there MAY be hope. My max hopeful #s.

Bradley effect +3 for Trump .... more than usual this year, with all the viciousness from the left, real threats from IRS to BLM to job loss. With terrible hag Hillary, the MSM and cohorts have to be more nasty than usual, could backfire ...

"Monster Vote" +3 for Trump .... or as Rush says, all those people that haven't been voting for 20 years but feel now is the time, they have an outsider (Trump) and need him more than ever. Rush says they are not counted.

Polling is giving Dems +4 or more. Large gallup poll, like 85K, said party ID is like 29R, 29R, 42I. So another +4 for Trump. Maybe more if union workers turnout stealth for Trump on jobs for 'Mericans.

Late deciders surge for Trump because he represents change, and there are a lot of those. +4 Trump

Then there is turn out which has proven to be a big advantage for the outsider in primaries, though "ground game" allegedly favors D (and cheating favors D) No one shows for Hillary "rallies" except donors and jihadist dads. Hillary/Soros fund thugs to threaten Trump overflow crowds.

Then there are Hillary crimes not being covered, and Trump ads just beginning.

Facts on issues favor Trump policy big time, despite him being sometimes rude, or misspoken. Trade, immigration, outsider business man ... all HUGE for Trump if voter gets past the media screed.

So there is plenty of potential ... but I'm a Breitbart kinda guy, so they make sense to me more than many. Hillary's army preaches those are racists and ignorant bigots, and going to that site will send one to hell. Time will tell I guess.

Posted by: OregonMuse at August 24, 2016 10:44 AM (GXgiy)

The alt-right is a new movement that is largely young and internet-savvy. Their have been good articles on them by sources like National Review, The Federalist, and by its arch-nemesis Ben Shapiro (I am sure none of these can be trusted due to their "establishment" ties)

At its most intellectually sophisticated, the alt-right philosophy is a rejection of the Enlightenment and the Constitution and thus is as opposed to traditional Conservatism as is modern liberalism.

The alt-right most frequently manifests as a celebration of white identity politics. It has a virulent anti-semitic streak.

Bannon, now a key part of the Trump campaign, proudly stated he made Brietbart a "platform of the alt-right." Milo is a key defender. It's adherents frequent Reddit and 4Chan and can be found responding in large numbers to twitter posts by Shapiro or other prominent Jewish Conservatives. Nick Searcy has also had some prominent run-ins with the group.

"Alt-right" might be a key phrase to tip off Hillary supporters, such as feminists, but if the GamerGate types who rose up against the feminist "gamer" whiners/MSM/Gawker feel they are being once again scapegoated/targeted they could be a really pain in Hillary's a$$.

Yes, there was consent...but because of Mary's nature, it was effectively a foregone conclusion. Remember, the "Immaculate Conception" refers to Mary, not Jesus, because she was born free of Original Sin; this is what made her fit to be the Mother of God, and also implies--as she was not in separation from God as the rest of humanity is--she was willing to go along with God on what honestly was a pretty out-there thing. You can get into all kinds of free will vs ineffable nature arguments as a result.

I think we're seeing the Roman Catholic Church's exalted view of Mary, one of whose titles is 'Queen of Heaven', in this painting.

That isn't even the half of it.

I had the "pleasure" of interacting with her on Amazon's reviewer forum. Basically she was against consumer book reviewers, then she wanted nothing but good reviews for authors, then she was trying to start a movement against anonymous online book reviews.

She was pushing a site for a time called Stop the Goodreads bullies, the management of which was notorious for tracking down online reviewers who posted negative reviews and harassing them...never mind if the reviews were warranted or not.

She's pretty much abandoned the Amazon forums now, or at least I haven't seen her posting under her name for quite some time. Interactions with her were...weird.

It's religious symbolism. Gabriel bowing to her tells us that she is highly favored (chosen) by God, and is also an acknowledgment of the deity of Christ, whom she carries in her womb. An angel would logically bow before God, and Mary is bearing God incarnate, so he bows. Back in the day, before the majority of people were literate, the church used religious art to help teach the populace, so it's all packed with symbolism. Which is why you will see a lot of the same set pieces, postures, and themes over and over again in Christian art.

Oh heck all of these artists used artistic license. Think of all of the many paintings from the life of Christ which showed the apostles or Jerusalem residents in medieval/Renaissance dress. Or the portraits of Christ which show him with blond hair and blue eyes, like he was Jesus of Norway.

They are still beautiful works of art - they were meant to inspire faith, not act as realistic portrayals of life in 1st century Israel (which the European artists would not have been familiar with anyway).

Not quite. By tradition Mary was of the House of David, which is to say, she was descended from King David. While she might not have been recognized royalty, she would certainly have been considered of royal lineage herself. As a practical matter this didn't normally matter much but for Scriptural purposes it's actually pretty critical.

That is going to backfire.
The SJW's attempted to take over gaming and it turned into a clsuetrf#ck because the gamers they were vilifying fought back.
In fact, GamerGate is being credited with being just as big a factor as the Hulk Hogan lawsuit in bringing Gawker down. The Gawker sites went all in with vilifying gamers as misogynists and they lost $6 million in ad revenue in a few months.

I'm not saying this will win/lose the election, but Larry Correia said it best when remarking on GamerGate, that (paraphrasing): You have to be an idiot to pick a fight with a bunch of people who spend every free moment of their day strategizing the best way to win a game.

But yes the painting is showing how Mary, though human and mortal, is of higher rank than Gabriel. And as opposed to Zeus forcing his favors upon mortal women; here is G-d respecting Mary by sending a highly ranked matchmaker as it were to ask.

361 What's interesting about the battleground polls is that Trumps bad times aren't helping Hillary. Oh sure, she has widened her polling in many of those states but (with the notable exception of Virginia) she hasn't actually improved her own numbers much, if at all; the polls widened in her favor only because fewer voters said they were going to vote for Trump. Those same voters didn't move to Hillary, largely, they moved to no opinion or the Stoner.

Trump can probably win those voters back.

362 Not quite. By tradition Mary was of the House of David, which is to say, she was descended from King David. While she might not have been recognized royalty, she would certainly have been considered of royal lineage herself. As a practical matter this didn't normally matter much but for Scriptural purposes it's actually pretty critical.

Posted by: Brother Cavil, down with Eph 6:12-13 at August 24, 2016 11:20 AM (9krrF)

My impression from the Gospels is that the Mary and Joseph weren't exactly walking around in purple robes. Despite their royal lineage, what did that actually *mean* for them, day to day? Not much, I think. They didn't live in Jerusalem, where the Jewish kings lived. Joseph was eking out a living as a carpenter way up north in the Galilee. That is hardly auspicious. And isn't that the point?

+++++++++===============\

So you both can be correct. King David got around. There was probably not a shortage of his descendants at that time. So being descendent didn't make you royalty and upper class - prince or princess. Mary knew the psalms and probably had some education from the Temple - she quoted one at the Visitation. Of course we don't know that for sure, its speculation. The descent fulfills old testatment prophecy. The old testament covenant was consummated in the new testament.

Catholic tradition has it that a lot of the Gospel of Luke was dictated to him by Mary.

417 Suppose you were a poor peasant desperate to get on the King's good side.

You have very little to offer him.

Some half worm eaten apples.

You know his mother is well thought of and known to be very kind to peasants.

So you approach her in town one day and offer her as a gift your apple for her son the King and beg her to ask him for a favor of you.

She, being full of grace, takes your wormy apple and wishes you well. She then prepares your gift by cutting away the worm eaten parts, displaying the few choice slices on a sliver plate from her own kitchen and takes it to the King with your words.

Surely the King, who is known to love his mother, looks more favorably upon your gift presented to him by his own mother, with her own care and love appended?

But if you don't want to offer your prayers through Mary, you are free not to do so. Personally I definitely need ALL the help I can get.

420 I like Bible "philosophy" but it ain't perfect to me ...

But that said, I "like" that Jesus came for the common man and crowds loved him (populist?), but it was the Jews (pharisees/lawyers leadership) that rejected him, as they had made a mess of things (e.g. they had sex with the woman, but they tried to trick Jesus on the law which said "stone her").

"Oregon Muse - "the stone that the builders rejected" I think is the turn of phrase you are looking for. " anna

So those Jews rejected Jesus and arranged for his death ... but he was risen to be the head of the corner (the foundation stone, petra, not little pebble Peter) on which the Christian church is built. So there is no more Jew nor Gentile, both are joint heirs with Christ ... perfect lamb of God sacrifice, first fruits from the dead, and our high priest forever to whom we have direct access. It fits nicely.

I see it as the upgrade to Judaism, as no one has to have the right bloodline. Of course accepting a lord was more understood in the day when human lived under rulers that essentially owned them, as is still true of most countries. Hillary says we have to change our beliefs though, once she is queen.

421 Fra Angelica still has my fave Annunciation image, but Botticelli is always breathtaking.

Fra Filippo Lippi would be a fun one to post for the art thread; a monk that would quite fit in with the Moron Horde, heh.

Also, curious is this image was planned or if CBD got tired of us trying to tie images together and threw us a curve instead.

422 OK, perhaps the last Willowesque comment on this thread.

Why didn't these artists depict more ancient architecture in their religious paintings? After all, they were surrounded by Roman ruins and sculpture and perhaps a preserved fresco or two.

I think it has to do with the immediacy of the religious experience. Perhaps in the medieval and Renaissance imagination, Christ was immediate while in later eras (sadly) Christ became historical and the sense of distance grew along with the tendency to portray the events as distant and historical. Hmm.

425 "Perhaps you'd like to revise and correct your remarks and provide
evidence for the "fact" that Jesus was born without Original Sin?" mary poppins

iirc, JC is also called the "second Adam". First Adam had pure blood, second Adam (JC) had "pure blood" passed on from Father God creating perfect sperm in Mary (is how I recall the story). So this would mean the "blood life" part came from the sperm?

Bible also says JC was tempted in all points, yet without sin. But the first Adam was also tempted(?), but he chose to follow tempted/deceived Eve. But JC had to redeem man by being the perfect lamb of God sacrifice. I guess I hadn't thought of whether JC also "carried" the original sin with him because of Mary.

So I'm just curious about where you are going with that interesting point. It sorta makes sense that redeeming meant bearing the burden of the original sin, yet without "sin". Same with being beaten, rejected, fulfilling OT prophesies, still choosing to obey God's will, not his own.

428 "Gabriel is like a messenger. He says stuff like 'Don't make the BOSS send Michael down here.' Michael is more warriorlike."

And therein you have the entire plot to the terrible movie Legion, with Paul Bethany, who was also in the terrible zombie movie Priest. Though I did like the demon granny in Legion. She reminds one of Hillary!

429 thanks for this wonderful Botticelli. The Angel Gabriel's kneeling posture shows his reverence for Mary. Her posture, with such grace and delicacy, says "how can this be, since I know not man?" She's confused and a bit afraid, humble, too - this is a heavenly visitor - so she can't meet his eyes, even though Gabriel is trying to look her in the face. Such a beautiful and graceful work. Nobody paints hands with such grace and expression as Botticelli. Love this. thanks.

I didn't realize you were such a literalist you are blind to the beauty in front of you. As I said earlier these great pictures were never intended to be a documentary of life in 4 BC Palestine but to inspire faith and devotion by their beauty.
