IF Day 1, here we go. Drank my butter coffee. I drank it last night, too. Decaf. Had a low blood sugar due to the cinnamon. Dropped a few lbs. not hungry. Will see how it works with exercise. I am diabetic type 1. I know how to handle low carb and insulin (had bariatric surgery). Keto does not have any effect on diabetics unless sugars run high for several days (way high).

Should read "FBI hands over heavily redacted Clinton Material". They said the material had stuff that was so classified that even congress could not see it. If that is not an outright lie then someone in the FBI needs to go to jail for not charging Clinton and misprision of a felony.

For those who think both candidates are bad choices who may implement horrible policies and/or appoint crappy SCOTUS justices: Keep in mind that a President Trump will have vastly more opposition forces (media, Hollywood, foreign governments, the UN, Congress, etc, etc.) arrayed against him, regardless of what direction he may be going. On the other hand, a President Hillary will have the skids greased by helping hands and a following wind at her back. Posted by: Seamus Muldoon at August 17, 2016 08:25 AM (wPiJc) 40

Many years ago, Harbor Freight sold a very nice compact mill. There was a whole cottage industry devoted to upgrading parts and replacement of bearings in order to achieve tighter tolerances on the finished product. And then right in the middle of the interest in 80% lowers really ramping up, they stopped carrying them. You can still buy the mini-lathe. For now. Before WWI, the Kaiser visits Switzerland, and is presiding over a Grand Review of the Swiss Army. As the troops march by, he leans over and asks the Swiss General escorting him "How many troops do you have under arms?" "I can have a million men under arms and ready to fight, 48 hours after mobilization." The Kaiser sneered back "And if I were to invade Switzerland with 5 million men?" Good morning, everyone.
From the FBI article: "The documents will not include any transcripts from FBI interviews in the case, as the FBI routinely does not transcribe such interviews." I find it really hard to believe that the FBI doesn't transcribe interviews. By the use of the word "transcribe" I am assuming that means they tape them. The original Casino Royale book is a great period piece about the extremely austere post-war era in England and France. Bond's little touch of prosperity (on the government travel account, of course) is set against a pretty bleak background. Also James Bond is scared shitless a good amount of the time, and when some Bulgarians blow a guy up in front of the cheesy little casino, he actually goes behind a bush and pukes. A whole different look at the glittering world of Bond.
I'd like to see a movie of that, actually set in the era. Bond could only afford a luxury car because he'd bought one wrecked and cultivated a friendship with a guy who worked at the factory. Yeah. Like that. Posted by: Stringer Davis at August 17, 2016 08:59 AM (tIja6) 126

@149 Know what I saw on a trailer at a rest stop on the PennsyPike last week?
A brand new manure spreader. Metal, industrial-grade, not an Amish retro. There's some microeconomic back story to that, for sure. I hadn't seen one actually used in years. It's ecoheresy, here in the Save-The-Lakes watershed. FWIW, the manure spreader was invented in Ohio, and pretty sure it figures heavily in the much-ballyhooed "Inventure" hall o'fame. Some of us feel it belongs on the state seal, for literal and ironic reasons. In Yerp, they dissolve the ordure in water and spray it on the crops. That's why Germans always giggle up their sleeves when someone is introduced as "Mister." Posted by: Stringer Davis at August 17, 2016 09:11 AM (tIja6) 163

votermom, I'll have to get that book for my son. He had a stuffed blue bear when he was little, that he absolutely loved. Somehow it got lost in our move when he was 3 and a half and I've always felt so bad about that. All we have left of it is a little piece of the tail that had fallen off and I had put it in my jewelry door.
A few years ago, I found a brand-new one just like it on eBay (it had been discontinued long ago or I would have gotten him another). Unbeknownst to him, I bought it and put it away and some day, hopefully he will have a son to give it to. On the lathe and mill discussion way upthread...
Don't waste money on cheap "home" equipment. Wait for an auction or a local ad for "equipment for sale" and buy an old Bridgeport or Index mill, along with a thread cutting lathe. There are enough old toolmakers with the good stuff in their garages or basements that the real machines will be coming up for sale. Plus, buy all the tools, collets, mills and everything else that's lying around. You'll need them. Posted by: jwest at August 17, 2016 09:16 AM (Zs4uk) 175

The Gold King mine spill has got to be one of the most mendacious things EPA has done in a while. They wanted to make that area a Superfund site for years - the locals resisted. They insisted there was the potential for mines to leak, but they weren't. So they threaten the mine owner with fines in the ten's of thousands per day if he won't allow them access to "test" for leaks and then create the massive leak/spill themselves.
--No one has been named as responsible. --No one has lost their job at EPA or been demoted. --Now it's declared a Superfund site, giving EPA all sorts of authority and funding in the area. They said there would be no investigation into the "f#ck up" which really doesn't look like *they* think is a f#ck-up, because they got exactly what they wanted: a disaster they can use to insert themselves, increase their authority/power in the area. >>"So, I was just at Walmart, buying school
supplies for my kids, when this man started asking me questions like why are you buying 150 notebooks?" This usually about the time of year I start to wonder if some parents have *any* responsibility for their kids. Let's see, there is: --- Welfare, SNAP, WIC, etc. --- Free school breakfast and lunch (and some places, dinner); public schools really push you hard to sign up --- Schools supply drives where you're encouraged to buy a backpack and fill it for some unfortunate kids (I guess it's OK if I spend my time bargain shopping the supply sales, but some mommies can't?) --- Winter coat drives so kids can stay warm --- Thanksgiving meal drives to donate the fixings to an unfortunate family --- Christmas present drives to buy gifts for unfortunate kids presents I am not uncharitable, and I am not indifferent to the plight of the less fortunate/people who are temporarily in a bad place. It's just the accumulation of all these things being pushed in the news starts to grate --- really hope it's not all the same people just sitting back and letting everyone feed, clothe, etc. their children. My friend who used to teach kindergarten had horror stories about parents dropping off kids in pjs late for school and *expecting* her to make sure they ate (free food), had (free) supplies, etc. Are we breeding a lot of these moochers? Re the Not Feel Good Story of the Day - Is it too much to expect students to bring their own notebooks to class every day? Their own notebooks which were likely given to them by the do-gooders who are out collecting school supplies for the children? My church just finished a collection of school supplies to donate to the interfaith center to be passed out to impoverished students. Maybe they should give them to the teachers instead.
About ten years ago my sister was contemplating putting her two youngest sons in private school, but then she calculated it would be cheaper to buy a house in the poor neighborhood where the magnet middle school was located and she wouldn't have to try her luck with a lottery slot for her kids. Once or twice a year a group of the lottery moms would collect pencils to give to the neighborhood kids, and invariably the next day my sister would find a bunch of pencils on the lawn of her ghetto house, which was across the street from the school. If you constantly give kids stuff, they never learn to be responsible. Posted by: biancaneve at August 17, 2016 09:36 AM (3fayT) 229

This guest of Bill's was supposedly a PhD in something or other, but to watch her try, over and over, to come to Soro's defense after Bill repeatedly pointed out his sabotage of democracy and world order, was really spectacular entertainment. Unfortunately, it was only a few minutes long, but it put such a bold, highlighted exclamation point on the depth of leftist dedication and commitment to their ideology. These people are zealots. "
I saw that. She was indeed awful. She kept pointing out that he's given millions to "worthy causes." (Worthy in whose eyes?) O'Reilly said, "And Mussolini made the trains run on time." I always overbought in August to avoid the January semester change new supplies crunch. There is nothing like paying $8 for colored pencils in Jan rather than $2 in August.
One of the best teachers at our elem school had a little school store run by the 4th-5th graders, it was a really great learning experience for making change and keeping stock filled. Posted by: mustbequantum at August 17, 2016 09:53 AM (MIKMs) 295
Cripes, now I'm getting started on the whole school supplies thing.
I think that this is where kids start to get indoctrinated by schools into the wonders of socialism. My school does school supplies one of two ways: 1) you buy the supplies for the year directly from them by sending the school a check. Then your kids supplies are "delivered" to the classroom on the first day of school. 2) you follow the supply list and buy your own. Either way, all the supplies for the class are then combined into communal bins and kids take what they need/want. So in other words, if I want my kids to have the excellent Eberhard Faber #2 pencil, tough shit because if I buy them then the pencils get tossed in the pencil bin along with the el cheapo BeBop plasticized wood pencils. I've taken to telling my kids that I'll buy them the good stuff but they KEEP IT ALL IN THEIR BACKPACKS. Posted by: VA GOP Sucks at August 17, 2016 09:54 AM (PFy0L) 296

Met a guy once who quit his job as a teacher to become a truck driver because he couldn't stand the neglect he was seeing every day. Posted by: V the K at August 17, 2016 09:43 AM (O7MnT) I hear horror stories every day about the local school near me here in SC. And this is supposedly one of the best elementary schools in the county! They say the "poor" get three meals a day at the school, free school supplies, and a lot of other goodies at county expense. Meaning the people who pay property taxes are funding a welfare system, not a school system. I never could understand how they got free food through when they already have EBT? And no wonder my property taxes have literally exploded since I bought the house. Even more reason to move to WY. Posted by: Vic We Have No Party at August 17, 2016 10:15 AM (mpXpK) 318
BTW, if you want to read Roger Stone's column discussing voting-machine fraud firsthand rather than through a NeverTrumper website precis, it's linked in my sock.
The Wisconsin stuff is two paragraphs with most of his column shitting on the Dems for their known-frauds, and how easy it would be to accomplish, along with links to the statistical basis for his claims. He's also using the "both parties do it" argument to show he's impartial while trying to gain scrutiny of electoral fraud as a serious issue (that we know the Dems practice) that LIVs know it is acceptable to discuss.
