Federal EEOC: Wearing Don't Tread on Me Symbol Could be Punishable As a Racial Harassmen

My friends, you have nothing to fear from a Hillary presidency.

Eugene Volokh makes this point clear: this is not a case about what dress codes employers may force upon their workers; they have broad discretion in this area.

This is about what rules the federal government may force employers to enforce -- if you own a motorcycle repair shop, and one of your employees wears a Gadsden flag t-shirt, you may face huge civil fines from the US government because you failed to forbid the wearing of this obviously-racist shirt.

The sustaining, foundational myth of the #NeverTrump movement is that a Hillary presidency is cost-free -- no difference between president Hillary and President Trump, they say.

Whatever you need to tell yourselves, fellas.

5 The EEOC from its very inception has always been a race mongering corrupt POS. It should have never been created and it should now be defunded, disbanded, and every employee above the level of janitor fired from government service and forbidden to every have a government job again.

12 Trump was never going to win the general. His defeat will not be because of NeverTrumpers; it will be because he was the wrong candidate from the beginning. It's unfortunate so many of his primary voters didn't see what he was in time, but they need to take ownership of that bad decision, not blame anyone else.

13 "The sustaining, foundational myth of the #NeverTrump movement is that a Hillary presidency is cost-free -- no difference between president Hillary and President Trump, they say."

Not sure if you've been talking to the wrong idiots online or you honestly believe this is the rallying call of #NeverTrump. Most of the #NeverTrump people I know feel like Hillary would be the devil incarnate, but one which we would be empowered to fight back against. Whereas Trump would usher in a rubber stamp on everything without any push back from either sides of the aisle. I think many in the #NeverTrump camp would vote for Trump if he stopped being an A-hole and constantly sticking his small foot in his mouth every week and did his job as a candidate to bring back disaffected voters. But, his fans would rather have him be the bull in the china shop no matter who happens to own said shop.

16 I've written about this before.

There's a pernicious movement afoot to read the 14th Amendment right to "liberty" to override things in the Bill of Rights such as the right to free speech. You see, you can't have "liberty" if someone offends you with their speech. This current phase of progressivism has been playing out at a college or university near you. This is a further extension. Soon we'll be seeing the argument in courts and ultimately in a SCOTUS with a few Hillary appointees.

The likes of Hillary and Obama loves them the 14th Amendment. The rest of the Constitution, not so much.

I think what he's trying to say is that a Trump presidency would essentially create (well, dramatically heighten) a one party state, in which both parties essentially agree on growing and centralizing government. The big government policies Trump would push would receive more support then the same policies from Clinton because their would not even be nominal opposition.

There were many college flags, several US flags, some Gadsden flags and yes - even some Come and Take it flags (some with the cannon, others with the AR).

Walked into the main area of the building from reception, first thing you saw was the "Come and Take It" with an AR. I knew right then and there I was among friends.

The reason I doubt these are truly "concerned" conservatives is what is the goal exactly?

So what is the goal here?

174 Excuse my ignorance but....WTeverlovinF is virtue effing signalling?
Posted by: Tami at August 04, 2016 03:26 PM (Enq6K)

Forgive me for any inaccuracies, as I'm a lapsed Catholic. In one of the gospels, Jesus talks about people who fast and make a big deal about it. "Oh I'm so hungry, but I can't eat because I'm fasting. Woe is me." And he told his followers to knock it out. God doesn't care if you let everyone know that you're doing a good deed, or fasting, or praying, because he knows anyway. The only reason you're doing that is because you want everyone to know that you're doing this virtuous thing. By doing this, you care more about what other people think of you than of actually doing the good thing that God wants you to do.

That's virtue signaling. The point of comments like ATC quoted isn't to actually advance the argument, or to convince anyone rhetorically, or any of that. Their only purpose is to broadcast to everyone that the person making the comment is virtuous.

175 79 I supposed my camo hat with an American flag is a form of microaggression and is a type of racialistism..or something.

As I posted about here a couple years back...I was out for a walk on a beautiful summer morning in a local park, and happened to be wearing a Remington cap.

This fat, sweaty middle-aged Progtard guy accosted me and threatened to call the sheriff on me because I "shouldn't be wearing THAT out in public where children could see it."

After I laughed out loud at the asshole and tried to go about my business, he said "You're one of those Tea Party terrorists I can tell by the way you're dressed." (The "way I was dressed" was, um, jeans, plain t-shirt, sneakers and a Remington cap.) Fat Sweaty Asshole then followed me for a while, holding up his phone and yelling thyat I was a "terrorist worse than ISIS" and he was going to call the police.

Finally I had enough of this fuck so I pulled out my own phone and said. "Let me do it myself. In fact, I'll drive myself to the police station and turn myself in. It will be a great chance to visit with my mom, who's been a dispatcher there for 23 years. Oh, and the Judge, who is my Godfather, would be glad to see me as well."

All true. And Fat Sweaty Asshole wandered off mumbling to himself after that.

I would disagree with that.

A lot of the conservative voices have a particular blend of "conservatism" that some would call liberalism.

Most of the prominent NeverTrumpers are NeoCons that want constant war and nation building. They are also absolutely fanatical about the idea of amnesty and a very open immigration process, taking in refuggees, nation building etc

The other stuff they just sort of give lip service to.

But if these same "conservatives" are wanting Hillary over Trump, are they really that principled when it comes to conservative ideology?

That's the acid test to me.

252 The Left gets to define all words and all symbols.

Take the "Confederate flag," which has been used in many contexts and with several meanings. They ignore its use as a memorial to the dead, as a regional symbol, as a sign of rebellion to authority. They ONLY see it in its negative past uses. So it is banned --- and no one dare display it now that it is defined as only evil.

It will not stop.

One of the very few conservatives I've met at work in academe is an Orthodox Jew. When the OMG-Dylan-Roof-is-Confederate!!! frenzy was in full swing, she said, "Today the rebel flag, tomorrow the Star of David."

She has to suffer white people having legal rights in this country because of the Bill of Rights, written by James Madison, a slaveholder.

Much of America was built by slaves, for example the Intercontinental Railroad. I could give many more examples.

I have today directed Attorney General Lynch to implement a plan in which, as recompense for slavery, every white household in America shall be required to take into their home and support a family of Muslim immigrants.

324 lynndh at 15: "F them. I will wear my hat and my t shirt, when and where I want."

Well, bully for you. And when you wear it to work, your employer will be forced to terminate you, or face the threat of a crippling lawsuit by the guy next to you who takes offense at your hat. That's the point here -- the government isn't holding a gun to your head. They're empowering other people to sue you or your employer, to seize their assets under threat of arms after the suit is won -- they'll hold the gun to your head then, literally -- and they'll control your speech that way. No one wants to get fired or lose a huge lawsuit.

You can say "F them" all you want. There's no amount of bravado that will protect your job. You'll be fired. This isn't a problem we can bluster our way out of, with masturbatory fantasies about standing up to the man and saying "go ahead and make me, you and what army." The United States Army, that's which one.

And I swear to all that's holy that if one more of you Texicans says "TEXIT", I will lose my shit. We already fought one goddamned civil war. One is enough. Again, it's intellectual masturbation. Nobody's going to fucking Texit or Arizexit or Pennsylvexit anything. It reminds me of AllenS's "salt the earth" defeatist schtick. Jesus did that get old -- but it made a few people feel better.

The way we change this is: We win the election, at every level, and we keep winning them, and we put decent constitutionalists in every seat and on every court.

337 "The sustaining, foundational myth of the #NeverTrump movement is that a
Hillary presidency is cost-free -- no difference between president
Hillary and President Trump, they say."

This "avoid the cost of a bad Democrat president at any price" argument ignores the fact that there will, sooner or later, be a bad Democrat in the office regardless of whether Trump wins. We know from history that the presidency swings right to left and back every 4 - 16 years. I know some Republicans think (after only 8 years) that the pendulum must be permanently stuck to the left and will only ratchet further left, but at this point that's only speculation (the leftist wave feels overwhelming, sure, but so did it after the last time a baby boom generation came of voting age). If the latter's the case I don't see how electing the most unpopular Republican president in history helps put an end to that overall left-ward drift of the nation, and if the former's still the case I'd rather not waste our right-ward pendulum swing on a useless, statist candidate who won't advocate conservatism and who alienates young voters we increasingly depend on with each passing year. We either make the best of the inevitable right-ward pendulum swings (which strikes me as not something Trump is the best suited for), or we make our own right-ward ratchet effect (which requires a lot more well thought out social engineering in mass scale, applied to skeptical demographics, than the right gives any evidence of being capable of).

If Hillary loses this year, Democrats run someone with less baggage and more likability in 2020 (which is pretty much anyone else they can field) and probably guarantee a win, especially after 4 years of non-stop embarrassing and exhausting Trump news (at bare minimum, in terms of trouble Trump can make for conservatives). All you do is delay this crap 4 years, and reward the Republican party for its cowardice, self-serving, and stupidity. If you ever cared about teaching the GOPe to get their shit together or pack their bags, there's never gonna be an easier Republican candidate to sit out on. There will, however, be an inexhaustible supply of intolerable Democrat presidential candidates on any given election cycle to make the case that "we can't possibly afford to lose THIS one!".

351 Can we get a racial minority Moron to file a lawsuit complaining that a lot of racists wear pants, and the wearing of pants at work must be banned?

It's the same reasoning. "Some racists display the Don't Tread on Me flag, therefore I am not comfortable when anyone displays it for any reason, and if I am not comfortable, the Federal government needs to step in and *make* me be comfortable." Nobody is even arguing that the person wearing the Don't Tread on Me intended anything racist by it; it is purely in the mind of the complainant, and that's enough.

So if someone gets it into his mind that pants are worn by racists, the Federal government should force everyone to switch to kilts.

And if we want this to have the desired effect, we had better do this quickly... three years from now, the response might just be that the Federal government goes ahead and bans pants.

P.S. In the 60's, when conservatives ran the government, "free speech" was the highest of moral goods, and it was absolutely essential to allow people to come to school or work wearing outrageous protest shirts or whatever. Now that the liberals are running things, they want to clamp down on speech with an iron fist. (a) I hate double standards. (b) They want to keep the pendulum from swinging back.

I don't know who I will vote for. I may not vote at all for President. Maybe I'll write in someone.

I voted for Romney and McCain - neither of whom I liked (like you I suspect). Well guess what - Trump is a bridge too far for me. I've made compromises in the past, and I'll make them again. I'm simply not compromising on him. That's my virtue signal - but you asked.

I voted for Romney and McCain - neither of whom I liked (like you I

made compromises in the past, and I'll make them again. I'm simply not
compromising on him. That's my virtue signal - but you asked.

Not for a large percentage of the population. So you and twelve others can hold your militia meeting if it makes you feel better, but it's not going to change jack-shit.

And in the mean time, while you're out in the woods practicing your operational operations, the Republicans (here wait -- I'll do this for a few of you out there -- they're all backstabbing GOPe RINOs who deserve to lose power) will lose the presidency, the senate, and maybe the house. Trump benefits from more double standards than he loses on. Not very many candidates in either party could survive the things Trump has gotten away with on the campaign trail or in his past history. Probably none. Sure, a lot of Democrats could get away with the shady business dealings in Trump's past, especially if they're a Clinton, and with enough public penance made before the TV cameras they could get away with his affairs (though in the cases of Spitzer and Weiner, as it probably would have meant for almost any Democrat, it meant scaling down the scope of their political ambitions). But none could get away with Trump's level of embarrassing ignorance, idiocy (Hank Johnson was an unknown, yet everyone knew about his "what if Guam capsizes?" embarrassment), and in public party in-fighting. John Kerry could tell you, none could get away with Trump's egregious levels of "flip-flopping". None could get away with publicly insulting rivals' spouses appearances, mocking the physically disabled, or getting into fights with the families of fallen military soldiers (Maaaaaaaybe Biden, but Biden apologizes rather than doubling down if confronted on such things). Some, like Ace, would argue we need to be less policing on such slights, which is fine, but don't act like this is some double standard just for Trump. For me, Trump's refusal to learn from mistakes and adapt himself in a crisis (which his campaign is) is in itself disqualifying in a commander in chief. And that's a standard I'm happy to apply universally, it's just rare to see a party nominee who can't clear that low bar.

It's not our job to be loyal followers of the party to keep Hillary, or any Democrat, out of office. That's the past several decades in a nutshell. Trump bears sole responsibility in all this. If he can't stop being a mess and can't formulate a message to derail a terrible Democrat candidate; if he can't run a campaign; if he can't unite a majority of Republican voters against a reviled Democrat candidate, then that's Trump's fault alone. Very few people went NeverRomney or NeverMcCain so it isn't because of sour grapes. It's because Trump is awful. If he truly cared about the country, he'd either stop Hillary himself or he'd step aside and let a man like Romney do so. At this point, what other chance do we have?

I'm sure the GOPe will be blamed for this as well, even though they've bowed to Trump to an embarrassing extent and let him become putative leader of the party. Instead of being concerned with those of us who cannot support either candidate, maybe concern yourself with why your candidate seems just as disinterested in taking on Hillary as you accuse others of being. Why he's more interested in re-litigating the primaries, and taking on fellow Republicans, than he is his Democrat opponent. Why he's not buying ads, or getting the campaign infrastructure together he needs to get the vote out. Why he can't seem to get his shit together.
