Thoughts on Generalissima Clinton's Adress

From Jane the Actuary,
who I agree with.

To add a little more to Jane's take:

To me, this was the first State of the Union address Clinton will never get to deliver. It was programmatic (without being specific -- a laundry list of destinations with no roads marked for getting there), enormously liberal, and very, very tired. Obama has delivered this laundry list thirty times, and he's The Greatest Orator Since Cicero; what new life can this brokedown old grifter pump into it?

Her criticisms of Trump might carry weight, except for the fact that an authoritarian, grasping con-artist and looter is calling Trump an authoritarian grifter.

One cut of Hillary's seems particularly un-self-aware. She recalled Trump's bluster in saying that he understood ISIS better than generals do. With the only approximation of humor in the speech, she deadpanned "No, Donald, you don't."

So: She's saying, essentially, it's dangerous to elect a megalomaniac to the presidency.

But our current president -- the one Hillary is now trying to emulate -- said this:

“I think that I’m a better speechwriter than my speechwriters. I know more about policies on any particular issue than my policy directors. And I’ll tell you right now that I’m gonna think I’m a better political director than my political director.”

Politico noted, just before the 2012 Denver debate:

This quote was attributed to Obama by Patrick Gaspard, who was Obama’s first White House political director, in an interview with The New Yorker in November 2008.

Obama biographers and even friends have noted his tendency from a young age to sometimes to let self-confidence curdle into excessive self-regard — a trait he will try to suppress in Denver.

I don't know how much Obama is really trying to suppress his narcissism, but he's failing in any event.

Obama's Chief Flatterer, Valerie Jarrett, opined that Obama was too smart to do his job as president:

In his biography of Obama, “The Bridge,” David Remnick, editor of The New Yorker, quotes White House senior adviser and longtime Obama friend Valerie Jarrett: “I think Barack knew that he had God-given talents that were extraordinary. He knows exactly how smart he is. … He knows how perceptive he is. He knows what a good reader of people he is. And he knows that he has the ability — the extraordinary, uncanny ability — to take a thousand different perspectives, digest them and make sense out of them, and I think that he has never really been challenged intellectually. … So what I sensed in him was not just a restless spirit but somebody with such extraordinary talents that had to be really taxed in order for him to be happy. … He’s been bored to death his whole life. He’s just too talented to do what ordinary people do.”

Too talented to do what ordinary people do, like demonstrate a competency at their chosen occupation.

Now let's look at Hillary. Since the 90s, she has pushed one Branding Message to her media allies -- her Sisters in Solidarity -- relentlessly. That Branding Message is that she is, quote, "The Smartest Woman in the World."

She has pushed and pushed and pushed this claim out to her courtiers and haigiographers.

If you're lucky enough to be young, you don't know this. But when conservative deride Hillary, sarcastically, as The Smartest Woman in the World, we're doing that because Hillary cajoled her Distaff Praetorian to pump that out to the world for twenty years or so.

So is Hillary Clinton's complaint that Trump lacks humility, or is her complaint really that Trump has no right to his narcissism, unlike herself and her patron Obama, who clearly deserve to think of themselves as smarter than experts in their fields of specialization?

44 Hillary was the one who made me realize that Hubris is both the defining trait of my generation and it's greatest sin.

Remember when she realized, after being life coached by someone, that even cleaning ladies are people too, deserving of respect? Overlooking the fact that this is something that most people learn while still in single digit age, her reaction to this epiphany was to rush out and inform the rest of us of her brilliant insight. Because if she, the Smartest Woman In The World, had just thought of it, surely no one else ever had.

62 Jane says Hillary has plans.

No, Hillary has goals, vaguely defined. It was a fundamental characteristic of her entire speech. All politicians do this.

Hillary's speech was very emotional, very motivating, if she was saying what you wanted to hear, if you were already not prejudiced against her.

"Education" is an easy example. What parent wants to keep their children ignore and uneducated? Everyone wants a good education. A good education is not a right, it is not something given to you. It is a service, like health care, and, like health care, you have a responsibility to do the work to get it. It has a price that has to be paid. It is not free.

"Motherhood" is another good example. Now, this election season, Hillary and the democrats praise motherhood while previously they championed a women's right to choose to end her unwanted pregnancy.

And ISIS. Everyone who has a brain understands the human behavior behind ISIS. It doesn't take special training or advice from experts to understand who and what ISIS is and what they are doing. It does take experts to formulate a plan to stop them, but it takes political will to execute the plan, especially when faced by skilled political opponents. (See Iraq, under Bush the Evil)

Hilary Clinton's resume in elective office includes one accomplishment: Renaming a courthouse in NYC after Thurgood Marshall.

Every other bill she championed was defeated or never brought up for a vote. And all of them were of the magnitude of the aforementioned.

This was intentional so she, like SCOAMF in Illinois before her, would have no legislative fingerprints on anything when she sought higher office.

The record of her as Secretary of State is crystal clear: She set the middle east on fire, unleashed waves of terrorists and peddled her office fore money, as well as on the come should she - G-D FORBID - be elected POTUS.

She's evil, conniving, gluttonous and has blood on her hands.

Hillary Clinton deserves to roast in the Infernal Reaches.

79 I only watched part of it, but this was bizarre: she was in the room when Obama made the courageous decision to kill Bin Laden.

A. "In the room" is an accomplishment? Now, it's an event she watched.

85 Almsgiving tends to perpetuate poverty; aid does away with it once and for all. Almsgiving leaves a man just where he was before. Aid restores him to society as an individual worthy of all respect and not as a man with a grievance. Almsgiving is the generosity of the rich; social aid levels up social inequalities. Charity separates the rich from the poor; aid raises the needy and sets him on the same level with the rich.

It's pure arrogance and a sign of their fallibility. But most people don't see it, deny their lying ears or simply surrender as dupes and useful idiots to their betters.

Ultimately they are authoritarians who want to be dictators. But they cloak it in terms that apparently make a great deal of the cultists, apparatchiks and chumps believe they are saviors.

Absolutely. Those 'dumb hicks' from over the past 1000 years probably already thought of it, tried it out, and thought it was a useless idea.

Modern people have absolutely no idea how 'smart' someone had to be back in the day. These people mostly did not have access to writing utensils, so their short and long term memory was usually FAR more muscular than ours is. People have to have a smart phone these days to remember meetings or even their own phone numbers.

Their reasoning and rhetorical skills were usually better. Life or death and whether you went hungry or not help a lot in those areas.

She said that an emboldened Putin would go after Ukraine. He did.

Virginia
Wisconsin

And these states require some form of ID presented either at the ballot or later:

Alabama

162 I'm really sick of this long-term desire for some, including some Republicans, to paint Hillary as so brilliant and intelligent. Honest to God, I've never seen one remark from her that warrants these types of claims. She's just a run-of-the-mill politico who benefited from being in the right place at the right time (e.g., marrying the right guy), like various politicians from both political parties. Hillary's not dumb but she's unbelievably corrupt and a nasty a-hole.

I work in academia and I speak to people more intelligent, especially with more critical-thinking skills, than her every single day. At the same time, the vast majority of those same people I speak to aren't willing to destroy the lives of others to obtain political power and, of course, massive amounts of personal wealth. It's amazing to me that she and her husband have enriched themselves through "public service." It would only be ironic if their activities related to the Clinton Foundation ended up being their downfall.

163 It was a droll, unimaginative, tedious and tiresome delivery of the same crap Obama pushed. Only the delivery was worse and the repackaging evident.

Honestly, if this is the best it gets for Democrats, there is something to look forward to. A lot of people forget how bad, impersonal and prone to gaffes she is on the campaign trail. It's why she has given a press conference since December 2015. There are a lot of unanswered questions that will pop up.

There is a reason she lost to Obama and hasn't been a meaningful presidential candidate until now. That's not going away any time soon. She is far from the inevitable candidate they are trying to make her.

Because if she, the Smartest Woman In The World, had just thought of it, surely no one else ever had.

Very damning. I've read numerous accounts through the years of Hillary's contempt for the 'help", like the White House household staff, the Secret Service, and the WH military staff.

234 The D Convention did nothing to change current trajectory.

MSM has given up on pretending -- it's all in for Hillary. Will an Ailes-less Fox join in? We'll know after Sunday morning when Chris Wallace sits down with Hillary.

My bet is that MSM's shilling will have diminishing returns. There's no good narrative to push this time. Insisting on Hillary as the nominee was a bad Inner Party idea from the start, then badly executed.

Obama will hump for Hillary in October. Can he pass the baton? Can he transfer his immunity cloak? I say no.

With the conventions behind us, I can't see anything happening that will help Hillary and a lot that can happen that will hurt her.

241 From the downstairs thread(I am only in for lunch, can't keep up with you all)

We used to be able to go to local farms when the cow died and buy whole unpasteurized milk straight from the source. Then Oregon passed a law claiming people were getting sick and it was a health risk. To drink what people have been for like 3000 years of human history.

Real reason: it was putting a dent in the local dairy industry. Not a very big one, but they're kind of rapacious.
Posted by: Christopher Taylor at July 29, 2016 01:02 PM (39g3+)

Umm, no.
I have lived in the middle of a rural area of dairy farmers for over 20 years now. One family farm is a neighbor whom we know very well.

No matter how much you try to keep a cow's tits clean, they will lie down to chew their cud, etc, and pick up bacteria. They are milked twice a day and battling mastitis is an ongoing problem for the best of dairy herds. Every farmer who sells milk to a coop or commercial dairy must have somatic cell counts done on random drawings of cows in their herd weekly, they draw samples and send them along in the tanker that comes three times weekly to pick up milk out of their bulk tank...if the counts are at a certain level they are fined and if they are higher than that rejected. (Somatic cells+white cells which indicate infection).

Add in that the FDA and AG dept. has seriously restricted what anitbiotics they can use on mastitis(even though all the milk has to be thrown out daily from a cow being treated, DO NOT BELIEVE the bullshit on the the organic cartons about non organic having antibiotics in it, it is not permitted for any milk), and fighting mastitis is very difficult for dairy farmers.

Pastuerization was universally adopted because people DID die of various diseases from raw milk.
Note at the CDC reports of how many times people contract listeria or e.coli from raw milk cheeses, etc. All of our farmer friends, even the old ones whose family drank raw milk when they were kids, do not drink their herds raw milk. They buy milk at the store like the rest of us.

Oh, and the other bullshit. Grass fed. Cows eat grass in the summer time and eat dry grass in the winter, ala hay. Unless you are buying milk from Hawaii or Florida, or S.CA, your milk is from cows that eat hay. And silage, and vitamin/grain mix. There isn't a commercial dairy cow around who can maintain milk production simply by eating grass in a pasture. They have to have vitamins and minerals in order to stay healthy, which must be supplemented.

DO not waste money on buying grass fed organic milk. The commercial milk raised in the USA is free of antibiotics and evil stuff. The ONLY exception is rBGh hormone, which some large commercial dairies use to increase production of milk, but has fallen out of favor with the public and with farmers. Our neighbor has never used it because it was a hormone he didn't want his family and himself to handle daily and because it increases mastitis and shortens the life of cows. Many farmers have stopped using it.

I would not buy milk if it isn't labeled rBGH free.

If you want full fat milk that is really rich, buy at a whole foods type store and look for dairies that use Jersey or Guernsey cows. They produce a higher fat content than the universally used Holsteins.

Someone explain to me the concept of fat free half and half. LOL.

Ok, Dairy lecture over for the day.

Here's the problem with Trump that some fail to understand or admit, he's been insulting a lot of people for a lot of years and forget Jonah, Trump himself was a big Clinton fan before this cycle.

When the whole Bubba/Lewinsky shit was hitting the fan, it was Jonah's mother who became one of Linda Tripp and Lewinsky's biggest defenders. Trump went after them viciously including personal attacks on both Tripp and Luciane Goldberg's looks. The whole ugly woman thing.

Some people don't forget hearing their mother trashed in public with never an apology. Even when the guy flips parties and decided to run for President.

One of the benefits of being unrelievedly cynical is that, once the masks finally come off and people reveal themselves as the cheap, morally-flexible whores you've always known they were, you feel a sense of relief. You don't have to fight through their façade before getting to grips with them.

True, and just about as attractively.

A problem I always had with that flick. The Old Chinese Guy tells Hoyt Axton not to feed them after midnight or get them wet. Then, when it happens, he gives the parents and the kid all sorts of hell about not being a very advanced culture. Excuse me, Old Chinese Guy . . . but how did *your* people find out about those rules? Your people would have made the same mistake, no? So no lectures, please.

337 Just read Article III again ... it says one Supreme Court and as many sub-courts as needed. SH ... that's not "one person". That's the door to the hen-house left wide open to the fox.

The Founders were not gods, and were not perfect. We could win a Civil War, adopt the Constitution entirely for New Moronia, and end up with the same cluster fuck if not worse.

Because of at least two problems ... language too damn flowery because they loved the sound of their own voices, and the shockingly naive notion that the Federal would obey Constitutional limits.

343 Every single thing about Hillary's night was scripted by political consultants and focus group operators.

You can sort of reverse engineer what they are seeing in their polls and focus groups by what they then do.

Trump has them playing defense. Normally, all they do is play offense in a president election.

I think the "pro-American" theme at the convention is the result of polling that shows more and more voters are coming to realize Obama, Hillary and the Democrats are globalists and not Americans.

They used to bang on about the US having 2% of the world's population but x% of the world's wealth but they have shut their pieholes about that lately.

But still, people see tens of thousands of US factories shutting and moving to Mexico and China and other places and they see the percentage of Americans in manufacturing work going down sharply year after year as the Democrats and the GOPe negotiate trade deals in which companies can move offshore and substitute foreign labor and still continue to sell freely into the US market.

They mask the bleeding out of the US economy by massive government borrowing up to now $20T in debt and injecting that money into the economy and by running the printing press 24/7. They keep inflation at bay by an immigrant cheap labor population now at 60 million and lucking out with fracking, despite their own efforts.

When the bubble pops and the smoke clears, the net result will have been a massive transfer of wealth from the US to other countries, to the great satisfaction of the radical left and to the great surprise of ordinary Americans.

Apropos of nothing, while I'm waiting for one last piece of paperwork to come to the desk, I see somebody mentioned Eva Peron higher up in the thread. That's one reason I was leaning towards a DAO-type pistola. For a lot of years, I sneered at anything DA in an autoloader, but after living with my CZ P01 for a few years (DA/SA with the decocking lever) I'm just more comfortable with the idea of DA.

And the P01 is really a tad portly for carry, I think.

383 So, it occurred to me that while both Bill and Hillary are evil, thieving bastards, Bill at least had the benefit of covering his true nature in slow, southern molasses. People listed to him because he's nice to listen to. Ideas are horrible, but a good voice.

Hillary, on the other hand, can't cover her true nature with anything but a shrieking, gravel in a blender, robotic clown laugh voice that sounds like something from a 1980's horror flick.

Bill gets a pass because you want to hear him tell stories. Any story.

Hillary is your alarm clock going off.

386 There was so much about her speech that were outright lies, delusions, and fits of grandeur.

As a veteran, one thing she said that really stuck in my craw was that Trump said that our military was a disaster. She went on to exalt our military and how much America revered them and how hard they work to protect our country, blah, blah.

What Trump said was under this administration, our military was being decimated and that our veterans were not being treated as they should.

It is well know and has been documented that FAB has treated military personnel in the WH like trash. She has more respect for money, graft, power and a bottle of Jim Beam than she has for our uniformed services.

Nah. Links and quotes from other sites are no problem. What can be a problem is formatting. The site will choke on long links (it will say strings). This is easily fixed with a link shortener like TinyURL.

It will also choke on non-ascii characters, like "smart" quotation marks (the ones that curl around the text). These can be quickly converted by iconv:

388 Here's the problem with Trump that some fail to understand or admit, he's been insulting a lot of people for a lot of years and forget Jonah, Trump himself was a big Clinton fan before this cycle.

I used to be a daily commenter over at Lucianne as GOP_U_BET. I donated money. I sent people to the site. I loved the site. I admired Lucianne for her principles and for providing a Conservative forum. But then 2011-2012 rolled around and a site which had sold itself as completely neutral, was all wham, bam, thank you ma'am--you are gone to anyone who even slightly criticized Romney. Folks who had commented there for over a decade were insta-banned with harsh rhetoric. It kept getting worse and worse and worse, so I left and came here. That does not excuse Trump, not one bit, but, the folks over at Lucianne are just as human and fallible as everybody else.

394 I have a different view of DT's me/myself&I syndrome. For the majority of his lifetime he has been screamed at by womenz in this nation that men are worse than the Devil. However, he came from an era where being a strong alpha male was a very good thing. He's from the Bronx!!! He's a caveman to be sure, but the world needs one to beat back the other bullies, and monsters we are facing.

This is not to say DT takes his love of self too far because I want to scream when he says he has a big brain, and I should trust him because he is really, really smart. I want to know what is taking place in his big brain. As King Julian in "Madagascar" said, "I have wondrous things going on in my brain!". Most of America isn't a bunch of lemurs jumping up and down cheering for these, "wondrous things", without some sort of definition. Please fill in the blanks teh Donald.

On the other hand, as a woman, I am so ready for an alpha male to lead this country; I love his, "in your face I am awesome" attitude!!! Wasn't that one reason why we loved Reagan after that limp thing that was Carter? Is this not why we freak out over all the bowing to our enemies by TFG? Who wants more of that, but this time from a screaming harpy?

Self-confidence, or ego mania doesn't seem to hurt women loving the character in "55,000 Shades of Grey". Women love that guy. For that matter, women loved Bill Clinton, and he had no shortage of me/myself&I syndrome. Ditto to JEF. Way too many women thought JEF was just swell.

What really is the problem is that if you are a Republican, and remotely resemble an alpha male, you are immediately a cave man. It just cannot be tolerated. The problem for Demonrats is women today are scared shitless for the safety of their children, their husbands, and their future. At least the sane ones are, and I believe most women, whether they understand it or not, do want a high testosterone man running this country. In one sense, it is innate in women to desire protection, security, and a sense of calm in knowing a kickass man is seeing to their protection and future. What some women distort is this innate desire translating to believing it makes them weak. Which is moronic, and largely backed up by public education on all levels. Insert scream here!

Hillary's speech, and the entire Coven was majorly flawed because they are telling women that if they don't agree with all their views; they too can be locked out of the Coven. It is like when MFM goes all pro-choice during the debates; completely ignoring there are millions of women who are pro-life and THEIR views should be dismissed all together. If anyone is king of me/myself&I syndrome it is certainly the Demonrats, and the MFM because they will never tolerate dissent from their communistic manifesto. You either march along, or off to the gulags for you!!! They make DT look tame by comparison. He at least demonstrates he does listen to others. I didn't get that from Hillbot2000, or the Coven gathering.

DT is no John Wayne, but he is an answer to the question of where have all the men gone. As a female, I love his ego when flavored with; "and here is why I am so awesome". However, even without it, I love his ego for one major reason; that press conference the other day. He told a female harpy reporter to shut it so he could answer her question, and he fought back against the MFM. Women want a hero. They want a fighter, and if he happens to have an ego the size of Texas, well who cares!!! He is fighting that harpy, lying, murderous Witch of Eastwick, and I can live with that.

Go Orange Julius Ceasar!!! Save us from Hell so we can live to fight another day!!!!!

I can think of two relatively benign reasons why she sounds so stilted:

1. Teleprompter
2. In a large venue, there are echoes bouncing all over the place and if you just keep talking at a normal cadence, no one will be able to understand you. You need to pause to let them die down before you can continue.

Actually, they expected the state and local governments and non-governmental organizations (churches, businesses, etc) would all act as counters to Leviathan.

The problem is the feds co-opted most of them with sweet, sweet government sugar.

You can't ultimately create a system of checks and balances that completely rules out corruption if the people in all the leadership roles are corrupt.

Yep. One of Hillary's and the Dems' tricks is to take a Trump statement out of context and pretend he was talking about something else, and then attack that.

Trump recently was talking about corruption by Hillary and our ruling class. He said "I'm the only one who can fix that" since he knows how the game is played.

So in her speech Hillary quoted his "I'm the only one who can fix that" and pretended he was not talking about her corruption, but she went on some riff about policemen and firefighters and how we can only do things together.

She only gets away with that because the media lets her, and the media loved her little attack on Trump there.

Strong leaders have humility, and Trump has none. Most strong men (and women) don't need to constantly brag about themselves. I mean, nothing wrong with a little swagger, but constant boasting is a sign of weakness.

I don't think Trump has any coherent or philosophically arranged ideology. However, I don't think that quoting him on what he has said about power brokers when he's in business is really a reflection of anything. If I'm a real estate mogul, I'm going to compliment and donate to anyone that can help me business wise for 3 reasons.
1. They might help me
2. They won't go out of their way to dick me as punishment for not kissing their ass
3. I then have them associated with me so they can only go so far in attacking me

So, is he a conservative? No, that's silly, he's not anything. He's an opportunist for whatever his current cause is.

Is he a Hillary "fan" or was he? No, he was in business.

457 I have a Ruger LCR, and while its great for what it is, its definitely not a gun you want to put a lot of rounds through.

Once again, H&K rides to the rescue. Get the P30 V3. It has a safety, so you can choose DA or SA. And, it's pre-Merkle, design-wise!

468 So is Hillary Clinton's complaint that Trump lacks humility, or is her complaint really that Trump has no right to his narcissism, unlike herself and her patron Obama, who clearly deserve to think of themselves as smarter than experts in their fields of specialization?

That.

I do think it's worth noting that Kids These Days have no idea about the 90s era Clinton scandals. The riposte of "Do you believe Juanita Broaddrick?" is likely to be met with blank stares.

This is where I clamber on my hobby horse that the mental breakdown that is third wave and neo-fourth wave feminism (we can argue if we'r on fourth wave yet but I believe there are some inklings we are) arises from the attempt of second wave feminists to square the circle of being feminists and excusing away Bill Clinton's serial womanizing and serial humiliations of Hillary Clinton. That tension, and the resulting mental machinations to excuse it, were passed on to the Millenials and they are acting out the logical, by which I mean illogical, end point.

I think it's also worth pointing out that most Millenials grew up with Bill and Hillary being effectively separated. They have no conception of them as an actual couple because their normal is Bill is here and Hillary is there and the schedules are coordinated so they only meet for Chelsea's wedding and the like.

That makes as much sense as anything. She truly is horrible at it, especially for someone on the national scene for decades. Forget being a senator and cabinet member--just being a First Lady should give you the experience to be a decent speaker. Just look at Laura Bush and Mooch Obama.

479 As for the bragging bit, I don't know. Is DT Napoleon, or is it an anti-Romney approach? Or is it just part of his usual salesman deal where he is trying to convince an investor he isn't a risk?

Because DT wasn't my first choice, and we are where we are in our choices, perhaps the bragging is a better approach than Romney's was when it came to wealth and multiple homes deal.

My next thoughts on the bragging is he doesn't have a political record to run on so all he does have is, "I BUILT THAT!!!" "I HAVE SOOOOO MUCH $$$$!" And that leads to his deal about knowing how to create jobs.

Is where we are morally and culturally in the country responsible for his bragging?

If she achieves election to the highest office in the USA, God help us. I always advocated that ordinary people tune out the Hillarys and Obamas etc. Their word is meaningless, so why give them the time of day. Send them to Coventry. Imagine a world where Hillary begins to speak and people stand and walk out. We need to stop giving these people our time. Imagine if Joe Wilson had gotten up and walked out on Obama after Joe called Obama on his lies. Imagine if the parents of the Solder's receiving the Congressional Medal of Honor had all walked out on Clinton, and not merely refused to shake his hand. {The great Herbert Shugart.} Ordinary people can do wonders if they stop cooperating with these liars and power mad egomaniacs.

I have listened over the last 8 years as an economically illiterate, totally inept zero of a person and his sycophantic media fan boys and girls, have slandered me with every despicable label, and assigned multiple evil intentions to me because I disagree with their policies. I have voted for and supported people who I thought would fight against this and be my voice but it turns out they were lying to me.
I am tried of the lying and the slander.
I want the border secured.
I don't want to hear the word "comprehensive."
I want e-verify.
I want our visa system updated.
I want law and order; I want to be protected.
I want someone with business acumen and a record of success in charge of the economy.
I want a fair trade system so that we can compete in the global economy but also look out for the interests of our country and our workers.
I am a fair, honest, and moral person. My vote is an extension of who I am. What would it say about me if I could vote for a criminal?
I think I deserve all of that after 8 years of lying and destructive progressive policies.
I consider the never trumpers/chamber of commerce republicans as responsible for this mess as the progressives.
An ex-dem
