In one scene, the penguins break into Fort Knox to steal...the last vending machine full of "Cheezy Puffs," a delightfully fattening cheese snack that has been all but banned by food nazis. Then, when they are falling from an airplane, one of the penguins is calling out their altitude, "1500 m. 1480 m..." The leader of the team tells him, "Speak American, Kowalski," whereupon, he begins calling out their height in yards. It is a couple of small things, but I thought the jokes were hilarious.

That is why I think Trump harping on banning Muslim immigration was a smart move. It caused the Democrat party to react instinctively to defend Islamic immigration. This gave people the impression that Democrats = Pro-Islam, the same way Republicans = Pro-Christian.
Trump can market things, brand things, and he understands that Islamic immigration is a grenade that keeps going off...so let the Democrat Party play with it. Let them defend the glories of Sharia law, etc.

Lots of Utah repubs I know are still on the anti-Trump train and are flirting with Gary Johnson or just not voting. One got chewed out by her conservative mormon grandma for not saying she would vote Trump. But I have a feeling that Hillary will just be so horrible over the next few months that they will eventually pull the lever for The Don, willing or no. As most Utahns feel like voting is a sacred duty, I doubt they will all stay home.

Certainly. However, people are people no matter what ideology they hold. They do not like it when people criticize the people they hold faith with. People usually rationalize this (if I criticize him, it help the enemy, We have heard this all before, etc.)
I am of the opinion of this: I will support Trump- even though I have no idea what he is thinking, and sometimes what he does spew out is contradictory or wrong- because of the alternative. By the same token, I am perfectly ok with people airing points of difference with him.
I think people need to remember that Trump is a means to an end, but also remember that he is not a good end- just the lesser of two evils. Too often people veer off, it seems, into thinking of him as a literal answer to 'all' their problems, when in essence, for conservatives or libertarians, he is merely an answer to maybe three to four problems (PC culture, the hold the Dem-lite establishment has on the conservative vote and what they do with it, potentially supreme court justices, and defeating Hillary.)

Of course there is something to compare it to: other speeches under the same conditions.I don't know what Reagan's stats are for 1988 or W in 2008, but those would help. And if you read the article, you see links to five other counts of Obama self-references in other speeches. I love these stats but I'm curious why they don't do the math.

I used to be a National Review subscriber, I have respect for what the publication has done for conservatism, but they should have made a strategic choice to state their issues with Trump and move on and not try and tear him down.
Same with many of the conservative outlets that bash Trump so much.
Trump has some personality issues, no doubt, but he's campaigning as a conservative alternative to Hillary. The idea that is is dismissed completely because of previous oafish behavior is short-sighted.

It could, but it doesn't. And two GOP nominees have stood in the way. Perhaps the Court will finally get it right. But the pro-life movement has made strives. And it hasn't been through the Court. Now the Court keeps knocking down a lot of things, so yes the Court stands in the way. Had we simply relied on the Court, nothing would have happened.

What I'm about to say isn't really about Hillary or Trump or their picks. We have to move away from the Court being our savior. They have proven they will not. They have proven that even supposedly really good Justices (like Roberts) will bend. They have proven that they will be unreliable. The 2nd A didn't advance because of the Court, it advanced because of the people.
I hope Trump nominates great people because it is better to have the Court on your side. For that matter, I hope Hillary nominates someone who will be a stealth conservative (far fetched I know).
But regardless, I hope we stop trying to rely on the Court and looking at them as the supreme decider of the Constitution. They are not.

This. The court has taken a purely procedural power to try cases, and transmuted it into a plenary power to determine law. The court can determine if a law is constitutional in cases brought before them. When they strike down a law, they are saying that they will rule against the law in this case and in all similar cases that they hear. It a shot-across-the-bow kind of power. The issue is that they cannot hear all cases, and even if they did, the composition and opinions of the court can change while they are doing it. Their current opinion is not holy writ.
