Ooof: LATimes Poll Puts Trump at 47, Hillary at... 40

Bounce.

Last night wasn't particularly useful for Hillary. Bill Clinton, I would argue, basically swung the election for Obama in 2012. After all the good work Romney did in his convention, Bill Clinton came out and rebutted every claim made.

For a week I was pulling my hair out insisting the GOP must now rebut Clinton's rebuttal. They didn't. (Naturally.)

But Bill Clinton went on stage last night to do the impossible -- to humanize the inhuman. Instead of talking about policy and economics, about which he has some credibility, he instead chose to speak of love, commitment, and marriage, about which he has none.

I think their idea is that Biden and Obama will carry the policy-reinforcing load, and that Bill Clinton was therefore more useful in humanizing the woman he has been all but separated from for 15 years.

But Bill Clinton presided over a roaring economy. Biden and Obama have presided over a dismal one. What authority do they have to speak about good economic policy?

In addition, both men are exceeding arrogant. Obama has one mode, and that mode is contemptuous condescension. He is a deeply mediocre man who has confused himself for a world-beating intellect, and cannot lower himself to speak to people whose IQ and insight actually exceed his own.

The idea that Biden the idiot and Obama the vicious narcissist are capable of giving the folksy policy rebuttal that Clinton could have is just one more bad idea Hillary has had.

Maybe it was ego that caused her to refrain from asking her husband to do the heavy lifting for her. A woman needs a man like a fish needs a bicycle, you may have heard.

Either way, we are now two days through this, and both days have been marked by discord and bitter feuding within the Democrat Party, with no appreciable help done for Hillary's side.

I can't see Obama's chin-arrogantly-lifted-eyes-gazing-heroically-into-the-middle-distance stage-whispering claims of how great we've all got it doing much to change that trajectory. We've heard it all from this failure before.

The only guy I see which any chance to do some damage is Tim Kaine, simply because he's new and doesn't (yet) have the stink of failure all over him.

First, only idiots and liberal journalists (but I repeat myself) don't believe the Russians don't already have her emails.

Second, anyone who saw or read his comments and thought he was asking the Russians to do that is stupid. He's taking a shot at the media, which got a gold mine of data on the DNC, and apart from providing enough information to get DWS a golden parachute into Hillaryland, focused on Trump's connections to Putin. Trump's saying that even if the media got those emails from the Russians, they'd rush to the Russian connection and not what's actually in them.

They want a hate-whitey-hate-the-rich-hate-the-straights barnburner, and you're not going to find that in a Hillary VP choice, or in a VP choice generally. Palin was the exception to the rule because she went after Barky in a way that McStain was too cowardly to do, which gave him that convention bounce. Of course, this is all necessary because, as we know from our beneficent rulers, they are doing this for our own good because we are too stupid to handle anything quite so complicated as a real democracy.

I ended up watching out of curiosity, and Bill was like that old relative who corners you at Thanksgiving and will not stop monologuing about his time in WWII. You just have to stand there an politely nod, taking teeny tiny sips of your wine to make it last, because you love and respect the guy.

Except....wasn't seeing much affection in the crowd apart from Chelsea and Elizabeth Warren as it dragged on. Even Chelsea's hubby had that strained look on his face, as if he was thinking, "OMG, pleasepleasepleaase make him stop! This is embarrassing!!"

280 >>Interesting question...why can't any other Republican do this? I understand the GOPers don't actually want to smack the left but what about the likes of Session, Inhofe, or Cruz?

Because they have been conditioned for decades by the msm and idiotic political consultants to speak in vague, non-confrontational tones so as not to disrupt the delicate sensibilities of the great unwashed masses, us. It was always a suckers game that put us at a disadvantage against the rapid cocksuckers of the left but it was accepted practice.

Trump is demonstrating and also benefiting from an approach that turns this accepted practice on it's head. People are more than fed up and are rewarding Trump for channelling their anger even if they don't always agree with his policies.

Trump is a street fighter. We haven't had one of those as our nominee, well maybe ever. If he keeps this up and doesn't go completely bugfuck nuts he just might win this thing.

A story is told of a pious rabbi who, as things got worse and worse, told his parishioners that G-d will appear and stop this. At the very last moment, as they were led into the gas chamber, and G-d did not show up as the rabbi was sure he would, finally admitted, "there is no G-d."

There was actually a movie about two friends, one devoutly Orthodox and the other secular. Both wound up in Birkenau and by a miracle survived the war. But, after the liberation, the Orthodox Jew was convinced that G-d abandoned the Jews and so he became and atheist whereas the secular friend was convinced that their survival was a miracle and became religious/observant.

Don't forget that Bill Clinton took sides and attacked Serbia (Slavic cousins of Russia) back in the 1990's, and Putin remembers THAT too.
In the years that George Bush was President, he never tried to upstage or publicly embarrass Putin, even when the Russians invaded Georgia. He gave the Russians the chance to back out.
Putin has plenty of reasons to hate the Democrats and the Clintons in particular. He also has shown he loathes and despises Obama.

The Bush derangement was bad enough but it's nothing compared to this.

Posted by: J.J. Sefton at July 27, 2016 12:04 PM (27m1/)

I think they fear a couple things:

1) I do not think they think he is a real conservative. They have been painting him as one, but they do that to everyone who runs under the R banner. The thing they fear is the door wedge. If Trump can get in while appealing to a broader array of voters than Rs normally get, he could be a gateway drug going forward for someone with more conservative policy.

2) I think they are somewhat manic, not that they will lose, but rather that their standard bag of tricks does not appear to be working (I would caution everyone about popping any corks until inauguration day, if then.) For the past 30 years, they have rolled out the racist label and hung it around the candidate, they have heaped scorn and every libel they can on conservative candidates for years, and it has worked more often than not. If these techniques are proven to no longer be effective in getting them what they want, I think they are a bit screwed. Or at least, they feel that way.

YMMV.

368 Trump campaigns like a Democrat. I don't mean his ideological leanings (and I don't care to get into a flame war about them)...I mean he fights and speaks vaguely and demonizes and disparages and panders and promises and changes course and creates theatrics and is bombastic...in much the way many on the left do.
It's just that he is doing it to them. He promises to "Make America Great Again" instead of "Ending Poverty", calls them crooked instead of Hitler, he promises to protect American workers from Chyynah instead of from big business, he is for the right of mothers to kill babies and then he is for those that do to receive legal consequences rather than the reverse, he gives disabled children a ride on his jet instead of marching with the latest faux outrage brigade, he pronounces himself to be yuuuugely fantastic instead of nuanced beyond the point of understanding.

Could others do the same? Sure...some could. But none do, so the point is moot.

He may be a sonofabitch but he's our sonafabitch. Love it.

And with the left's embrace of Black Lives Matter, illegal immigration, flaunting of the law by their leaders, willful important of terrorists, and the wholesale release of criminal illegals, there doesn't seem to be the stigma associated with criminal activities, even murder, that there was in the good ole days. So, in the end, what does it even matter if someone offs a Republican candidate for president? What difference does it make? Somebody famous said that.

Depends what's in them. 10 days may not be enough for good analysis to hit the press.

"Slow drip" could be worse. One can only imagine the scandalous material in those emails: Disparaging allies, info confirming all sorts of banal behavior on the part of Clinton and staff, soliciting/accepting bribes for the Clinton foundation, and who the hell knows what else.

Can you imagine a new major scandal every WEEK for the next two months, with the seriousness of them getting worse and worse?

A careful leaker would drip out damaging information, anticipate the carefully crafted Clinton campaign "spin" response, then rebut it with more drips.

Assuming foreign gov'ts hold this information, its probably in their interest not to disclose that they do by leaking it. Better for that not to be confirmed. Not revealing that they have it, also potentially allows for selective blackmail later. EG, being able to blackmail the sitting POTUS is not inconsequential.

I'd say odds that this trove of emails is damaging to US national security AND to Hilary Clinton personally and politically, are effectively 100%. Even begging the question of what actual classified information has been leaked (eg on assets, agents, activities, etc) If you've captured all the work product of the US State dept, now you have tremendous insight into the mindset of the agency, and its actors, including and especially Hilary Clinton herself.

Even if this stuff truly was "just" personal email (which for sure, it wasn't) its still damaging, because whomever has it can probably use it to predict State Dept and HRC behavior, amongst other things.

Was asked today about "The Donald Trump thing" from a UK engineer (I'm working out of the CZ Republic right now).

I didn't say much, and didn't really have to. They kinda' know how I am - and were probably just looking to get a bit of entertainment out of my answer. They love asking me about that stuff.

But I thought about it a lot. Here's my newest bullshit theory.

Trump will win this, unless he totally self-implodes (always a possibility) because of two reasons ...

1) Americans are tired of rule by the political elites. Trump, for all his money, isn't a political elite.

2) Americans are especially tired of Political Dynastic Families. Trump, again, isn't the figurehead of a political dynasty.

For those reasons, the Trump Kids will never see a sniff of political success. Assuming they give a damn about it.

When you can force your opponent back to the Observe phase, when they should be in the decision to Act portion of the loop... you own them.

The PRESS is being hit so fast by Trump, that he keeps resetting their OODA loop.... making it so they can't create the narrative they want... can't decide on the 'story' they want... and so have to actually just report the facts...

546 I'm glad that Trump is swinging against Hillary. The media scrum will keep some of this stuff in the headlines for days -- CNN for example, issued a breaking news alert saying essentially that Trump called for Russia to hack Hillary's e-mails.

Anyone fairly following the Hillary e-mail story knows, however, that those e-mails were wiped from Hillary's server and that the server resides now in the FBI. If Russia (or anyone) releases those e-mails, its because they already were hacked. The White House is calling this a national security issue now. You know when it was a national security issue? When Hillary Fucking Clinton decided to act with gross negligence and conduct all of her business on her bathroom server. That's when!

Frankly, if the hackers release the e-mails, it will probably do our intelligence operatives a service -- we will then have confirmation that all of those e-mails were stolen in the first place.

The GOP? HAHAHAHAHA! (I guess I agree!)

But wouldn't it be cool if Trump was pulling this off? I wouldn't call it impossible, but it just doesn't seem like it's in his wheelhouse.

554 Hillary doesn't have a family. She has a crime syndicate. She is probably closer (SWIDT) to Huma than she is Bill.

I think the main reason they stay together is that they each know where all of the bodies are buried. Think about it. What did Bill need Hillary for once he was no longer president? The only possible answer to that question is that he needed her to stay quiet --- and as part of that deal he would support her in her bid to be the Cackling Be-cankled Clown Queen. Deep down he probably resents it because he knows what an incompetent fuck-up she is --- which is probably why he passive aggressively undermines her so often.

And then of course the money is too good to divorce.

555 Could be parts of the German, Japanese , US, Russian establishment and who knows else. The corruption has gotten so bad it is threatening to bring down everything. Experiments are being run in Greece and Japan to try to figure a way out of (what ever we are in now). Corruption is heroin for countries.

556 "Could be parts of"

I forgot the lead in. Comment was on who is trying to take out Hillary.

558 The only guy I see which any chance to do some damage is Tim Kaine,
simply because he's new and doesn't (yet) have the stink of failure all
over him

As a resident of the state of Virginia, I would beg to differ.

560 Re: O'Reilly, you'd think that someone who regards the founders as heroic freedom fighters who were opposed to tyranny wouldn't be so blithe about slavery, no matter how well-fed and well-housed.

Washington, Jefferson, etc. were pretty well-fed when they were subjects of the British Empire. I've seen their houses! But that wasn't enough freedom for them, was it? In fact I have seen that thought expressed ON THIS SITE: "they said, 'not good enough.'"

I'm interested to hear the thoughts of people who profess to love liberty: is being enslaved more okay if you're well-fed?

Waiting for your answers, thx

561 A few of y'all were speculating about whether Hillary would lose votes if email with TOP SECRET contents were leaked. I doubt that would cost her a single vote.
.
First, LIVs never understood any of that. Second, the Lying Media and Comey have hammered the idea that it's just politics.

562 @212....I laughed out loud when he did this.

Mr. Trump stomped the media, talking heads, Hilz Harridan, Biden, Weiner, then went on the burn a trail to DC and exclaim that Obarfy is the most incompetent preznit evah. I'd say he covered most of the bases today. I read (somewhere) that Dems or others in the castle were in high dudgeon about "protocol" during the "other" convention. I guess there is some secret rule that you are not supposed to campaign or live. Welcome to the New World, beetches.

John Roberts of FOX said he had to hand it to Mr. Trump, no other candidate ever in his memory had ever answered so many questions. And he does it while telling the media to "be quiet" or "I already answered that, next!" Loved it.
