Oh My: Sanders Supporters Plotting Challenge to Tim Kaine on Ticket

There was talk about blocking Pence (and inserting a Cruz or someone else) at the RNC, but that fizzled.

The BernieBros are talking that up now, too.

A group of Democratic delegates backing Sen. Bernie Sanders (Vt.) said Monday that they are actively exploring a challenge to Sen. Tim Kaine’s (Va.) vice presidential nomination.

...

Solomon said he hoped the DNC release information within hours on how to submit a challenger to Kaine, which he said would require the signature of 300 delegates.

210 Pat Buchanan has an interesting column up comparing Cruz's RNC speech to Rockefeller's in 1964.

At the Cow Palace in San Francisco in July of 1964, Gov. Nelson Rockefeller, having been defeated by Barry Goldwater, took the podium to introduce a platform plank denouncing "extremism."

Implication: Goldwater's campaign is saturated with extremists.

Purpose: Advertise Rocky's superior morality.

Smug and self-righteous, Rocky brayed at the curses and insults, "It's a free country, ladies and gentlemen."

Rocky was finished. He would never win the nomination.

Sounds like you are confusing Pat Buchanan with Ross Perot. Buchanan ran in the GOP primaries in 1992 and 1996. When he failed to get the nomination, he endorsed the GOP nominee both times. Ross Perot ran as the Reform Party candidate, and many (including me) think that he is the reason Clinton won.

Pat did leave the GOP and ran as the Reform candidate in 2000, but Bush won. He also endorsed Bush in 2004 and Romney in 2012.

The only time they can make the switcheroo as a practical matter is after Hillary formally is nominated. Then the party machine can install a replacement of their choosing.

If she drops out before the convention, then Bernie might actually end up technically winning the most delegates at the convention, and the DNC would not allow that.

If Hillary is given the hook, it'll be sometime in the next few weeks.

We call that "urban renewal." Wait 'till one spark hits the barrio, and it'll be like a grease fire in a hot dumpster.

I think they got a hold of some serious crack over there.

Seriously sorry if my post was not clear. I'm saying the single issue 'read my lips' was the cause of Bush losing. Buchanan is who started that meme and pushed that issue when it had been really a non issue up to then.

Posted by: Joe Hallenbeck at July 25, 2016 03:11 PM (W9BSD)

++++

I agree with you as far as the "read my lips" broken promise was the downfall of Bush 41. And, it's true that Buchanan was among those criticizing Bush for his broken promise. But, I would lay the blame at Bush's feet instead of Buchanan's Bush should have kept his word. He was criticized far and wide for his broken promise, not just by Buchanan.

In flyover country you don't hang out with your enemies.

Cruz either doesn't know or doesn't care how despised Obama is by some R voters. Cruz should have gotten off by the back door like Dole and the other guy who was even less memorable.

He knows fully well how despised Obama is in TX, but memorial services are not the time for political considerations--unless one is a Democrat. They have no class.

To run in DE, you've got to buy ad time in the Philly Metro area, so it creates name recognition.

Plus Joe grew up hardscrabble in Scranton, or so he says.

Bush the elder signing off on that compromise (sell-out) budget was a big issue. Ask Former Senator Jim Sasser about it. Sasser lost the next time he was up for reelection.

No, all you need is a 'D' in and about Wilmington. I spent many an afternoon talking with him on the southbound platform of Amtrak Wilmington. But I never, ever recall him having a TV ad.

489 "memorial services are not the time for political considerations"

So all those people on AF One were personal friends of the Officers slain? (sarcasm alert; the only reason any of those politicians were there was politics)

So the families are suppose to feel better because the people who set up their loved ones to be murdered were there to insure that no votes were lost because of the tragedy their policies encouraged?
