68 It's worth recalling that King Darius had been snookered into casting Daniel into the lion's den. When Daniel survived, Darius dealt swiftly with the men who had set up Daniel:

24 At the king’s command, the men who had falsely accused Daniel were brought in and thrown into the lions’ den, along with their wives and children. And before they reached the floor of the den, the lions overpowered them and crushed all their bones.

104 68: The Achaemenid monarchs actually come off fairly well in the Bible. They seem to have followed a somewhat federalist administrative system. Had the Greeks not fought them, they likely would have been left mostly alone minus taxes and occasional local militia callups. For the 1st millennium BC, that's not a bad deal in exchange for defense. I think civilization in general profited from that resistance, however.

Hilary is apparently paying for ad space in GA for an ad that shows......... kids watching Donald having Donald moments.

I saw that. It's actually quite an effective ad, on its own.

Trump should counter with a duplicate of the ad, with kids watching Scankles laugh about breaking a rape victim on the stand, screech in full Margaret Hamilton mode and end up with her ARFARFARF idiocy.

That's what I would do.

205 Please clarify, I'm dying of curiosity to know the connection between CFA and Daniel in the Lions' den.

What is the story of Daniel and the Lion's Den? There is a lot going on there, actually. But here is where we see it in CFA today.

Jealous critics of Daniel decided that they would use his piety against him. They would use the power of the state to coerce him to stop following his God - and if he didn't, the king would have him killed.

Daniel said that the Lord's word was more powerful than that of the king, and so down he went into the den.

And instead of being eaten up, he came out, and prospered.

CFA is a modern version of the same story, sans leons (a little French lingo there).

CFA did not cave, and they have prospered. And the hearts of their critics are turning.

That's powerful, and its real.

There are many stories where the lesson is don't let the governments of men try to stand in the way of your love of the Lord.

For example, Moses came about because his mother defied Pharoah's edict that the sons be killed - she set him adrift in a basket, he was saved and raised in the house of Pharoah, and we all know how that turned out.

It was interesting to enlarge portions of the painting to see how Rubens achieved the glossy light on the lions coats. It looks surprisingly simple (as long as you have artistic genius).

I don't know anything about Rubens' personal life but he seemed to have a sense of humor. Take a look at his "The Drunken Hercules". I wish he had painted the Falstaff character. It would have been a hoot.

http://tinyurl.com/Wretchard-Three-Conjectures

Written September 19, 2003, long before the West had awakened to the fact that we've been in a civilizational war with Islam for 1400 years.

Probably the one thing about the Chinese having almost no schooling in Western morality (they eat aborted fetuses in their soup, for G-d's sake - DO NOT GOOGLE "Spare Rib Soup" and click images - what is seen cannot be unseen), is that eventually a Muslim is going to walk into Beijing with a suitcase nuke in his hand, and that is going to be the end of Islam.

Not hoping or praying for that outcome, of course, but it is inevitable when dealing with bloodthirsty lunatics whose only desire in life is to murder innocent people for their "g-d".

286 The lions are pretty good, but Daniel looks like a fag and his shit's all retarded.

Taupin from an interview said...."'Daniel' had been the most misinterpreted song that we'd ever written,"

Which is a pretty high bar to clear when you're known for writing lyrics like, "Philadelphia freedom took me knee-high to a man."

288 What if...
Hillary was the email leaker.

Whether she wins or loses the election, the Clintons will control the Democrat party apparatus for the next four years.

To consolidate her control, "something" happens to remove the DNC chair who is a bumbling incoherent fool.

Hillary installs a hand picked loyalist (Brazille, maybe or someone else).

The Clintons have, now, two cash cow corrupt organizations in which to collect, move and hide money.

If she wins, she has a trifecta. God help us.

290 Jealous critics of Daniel decided that they would use his piety against him. They would use the power of the state to coerce him to stop following his God - and if he didn't, the king would have him killed.

First, thanks for posting this, CBD. Also, for those who may not know, this work hangs in the National Art Gallery in Washington, D.C.; it's huge, with incredible detail, and provides ample opportunity to study the technique of the artist as well as the content.

The story of Daniel in the den is well known, as summarized above. The reason I am so fond of the painting is that it still has meaning to me today.

Look closely at the lions -- they're slightly anthropomorphized, with a gleam of jealousy here, the leer of envy there, greed and avarice and proclivity for violence common among them. Daniel, pious and calm even when he believes it may be the end, simply prays and trusts in God, recognizing that it is not always through friends that we succeed, rather so often it is by overcoming those who are allied against us.

There's a good message in there: stay on the right road, and do the right things, even when those around you do not, and even when people and events around you conspire to work at your direct disadvantage.

Be like Daniel, and worry not about the jealousy and envy and greed all around you, and instead trust there are better things in store, whether in this world or beyond, and that God has a plan for you.

For whether you believe in him or not, He believes in you.

291 Thank you CBD and Blacksheep. This is helpful as I am going through chemotherapy for an aggressive cancer and associated pains and thoughts...

292 setnaffa -- Thanks for posting. What you're going through must be very difficult and scary, I can only imagine. You will be in my thoughts and prayers and I wish you the very best.

Hang in there, and God bless.

293 What if Hillary's team is leaking these emails to gain sympathy for her? She's as crooked as a snake (apologies to snakes everywhere) so I doubt the story the DNC is positing about Russian involvement.
