A grand total of 41 protesters showed up. One guy on the first day and 40 on the second day.

One of the most beautiful sights of the world to me is driving down Hwy 101 in Marin County heading south and then coming out of that tunnel and seeing for the first time, over on the left, the north tower of the GG Bridge. If it is wreathed in fog, it is even more beautiful.

Whether the evangelicals like it or not that is a lost sector of the culture war, the win now is to roll back the government's stranglehold on a sacrament and let individuals define their own relationships, intimate and contractual. That's what I call the "negative upside" of Trump. Even if you don't like him as a person, you've got the positive symbolism - anti-establishment, country for its citizens - and then you have the fears that still bring good issues into focus, like separation of powers, constitutional authority, and general competence in government.
And if we're having that conversation, Hillary fails it badly, and it's a conversation we need someone like Mike Lee to lead while we debate whether the Federal Register should be limited to 50 or 75 pages annually.

For the first time last night I realized Trump is almost completely non-ideological. He kept saying as much all through the primaries but, since I'm used to ideologues (on both sides) I just didn't hear him. Sure, he will try to mix in enough conservative ideas to persuade Republicans to vote for him but that isn't his pitch.
The media is so used to soaring lefty demagoguery that a practical, down to earth man like Trump seems to them to be "dark".
I thought it was a really good speech, even though I still don't trust Trump not to pull some Democrat bullshit (and probably never will).

I have always used the cheapest Mr Coffee 4 cup maker I can find. I replace it when it gets dirty or if it tears up. And it never tears up before it gets dirty.

Trump needs a degree of unity to his ticket. He achieved that by giving Cruz rope to hang himself, and reveals that Trump really doesn't like Cruz, in my opinion. Hell, even donors were turning Cruz away.

We got one of the metal carafe coffee makers with all the bells and whistles, for a lot of money, and hated it. The coffee did not stay hot for very long, with no heat plate, and the metal seemed to interfere with the taste of the coffee.
I got a cheap Mr. Coffee, with no bells and whistles, just on and off, and it was amazing. Hot coffee, well brewed, and we controlled the on and off.
I admit, I am a bit of a Luddite, so that may be why I didn't care for the new-fangled coffee-ma-jig, but I enjoy my coffee now, so that is what works for me.
I would love an old percolater, the kind that sits on the stove, but they cost a mint now.
(Not meaning to dis you bluebell, because you probably have technology-fu that I am sorely missing!)

Cruz did not fail in any gamble. He stood for what is right and Trump is proving over and over again that Cruz made the correct choice. Trump's actions have not unified... they have cemented divisions and likely permanently lost some voters that would have voted for him if only reluctantly.
Why are you so willing to accept brownshirt behavior from Trump that you likely have decried when the Democrats employed it?

I am not making this up. You put the ground beans in the sock and pour on hot water with something to catch the coffee below. Works like a charm every time! I have literally NEVER heard anyone ever call it "The 101." It's just 101. If the freeway is composed of less than 2 numbers it will be referenced as a highway (Highway 5) but otherwise it's just a number ("I took 280 instead of 101, traffic was insane).

He told them this morning and he still got offered a new job with more hours which will involve driving a smaller bus at another place-probably because no ticket was issued and nobody was hurt and nobody was in the bus except him..

Bullshit... Trump doesn't have a gracious bone in his body. Cruz spoke at the convention because it was his right and Trump couldn't stop him.
And Cruz did NOT respond with nevertrump anything. The only mention of Trump was when Cruz congratulated him on his victory. The rest of his speech was about the principles that we support and getting out to vote for all candidates that support those principles.
Trump was not due an endorsement and had a lot of nerve demanding one after his behavior and HIS explicit repudiation of "the pledge". He is lucky that Cruz did not take the opportunity to place his name in nomination and then use his speech to nuke Trump from space.
Instead of just letting Cruz finish that positive speech on a positive note that might have started to heal some of the divisions in the party, Trump had plants demand the endorsement that he knew would not be forthcoming and then had his brownshirts in the delegations whipping up boos (bullying people to go along when they wouldn't do it without the bullying).

As an aside, Buzz Aldrinis a recovering alcoholic with many, many years of continuous sobriety. I personally know one person who was struggling with alcoholism and drug addiction that Buzz Aldrin helped. She adores the man, says she owes him everything. I adore him, too.

Look, I can't vote for either major candidate. But I am no longer sure that Hil would be absolutely worse. Under Clinton, the Supreme Court would be a disaster (though it wouldn't be much better under Trump.)

I never underestimated Trump. I've followedTrump's trajectory from the middle-Eighties to now, read his book, watched his occasional seriousinterviews over the years. I remember Trump's work in the Reform Party, his disgust when it went all fringey-hinky and fell apart.
I did, however, underestimate the Republican-voting electorate. I thought there were more conservatives than there actually are.

I certainly wasn't disappointed. In fact the only people who were as far as I can see are ardent Trump fans who excused every damn thing he did and said during the campaign as "just politics" while simultaneously claiming that Trump was the only candidate worthy of support because he "wasn't a politician".
It was very clear Cruz was not going to endorse. He said so after his meeting with Trump two weeks ago. I would have been hugely disappointing in him if he had. He took Reagan's route from '76 and stayed positive and about the principles that apparently aren't supposed to matter anymore. It was Trump who once again made this a shit show.

Cruz gambled and it seems like he may have lost judging by the anecdotal story I heard on Imus' show today from a Fox reporter who was onsite the day after and Cruz got an earful from the Texas delegation for not endorsing Trump.
I suggest Cruz readjust and re-calibrate his approach because he seems to be losing the plot a little bit.

For all of the gas about LBGTQxyz causes from our POtuS, it occurred to me that most of Obama's "accomplishments" don't employ anybody or put food on the table for any family, except perhaps yet another government employee.
The Black community must be asking themselves exactly what they got for the effort of putting a "black" into the White House ( DOJ), especially Black ministers. Blue collar workers weren't expecting much, but got even less. Those economic "inequalities", we've heard so much about, are worse, but we can rest at night knowing that in a few short months, the Obamas will be squarely in the "top 1%".
Frankly, the Obama Administration can be summed up as "The Magic Dud."

Cruz lost nothing with the Texas delegation. The CSPAN video of that breakfast meeting is out there. Most of the delegation fully supported him. 3 or 4 did not and he gave them the floor to ask him any questions they needed or wanted to. As always, he answered them graciously and politely.

The trap we have been caught up in is seeing the SCOTUS as some sort of super -legislature. It was supposed to be the fulcrum to keep the power balanced between the Executive and the Congress. Neither branch could be allowed to do something outrageous and out of bounds of the Consitution.
Now SCOTUS is used like a political club. It's no wonder people have little respect for any of this anymore. The Federal bench is used to veto things that are outside the realm of judicial review.

Its a lot broader than that. Presidents direct the agencies in what they do and how. The EPA doesn't decide its going to regulate that pond in your back yard without presidential approval or guidance. The NSA doesn't listen to your phonecalls without the president directing them to, or allowing it.
The main principle of the US Constitution is "all power is in the hands of the people except these small portions we allow you to have in government" followed closely by "the federal government has only power over interstate and foreign interactions, all other power is within the states."
Those principles make a huge difference in how you act as president.

The idea that only the Court can decide constitutionality is dangerous indeed. The story goes that Bush thought McCain - Feingold was unConstitutional and that the Court would find it that way too, but he decided to let the Court decide. Well, if I were President, I wouldn't have signed it. I wouldn't have signed it if it passed with 95% support in Congress - because it was UnConstitutional.
But politicians let the Court decide because it removes accountability from themselves.

Right, the intent of the founders was that the people would decide constitutionality through voting people in or out based on their approach, and those people would remove or block unconstitutional actions or laws.
That's why they restricted voting to educated land owners, and warned only a virtuous public could sustain the system: people had to act rightly based on what they knew to be true and good, rather than what they could benefit from.

Correct, and if I were president, I'd work to eliminate them by not replacing workers, shifting budget away from them, firing who I could, and denying their activities.
Some of them you could repurpose; for example, the EPA could be refocused on waterways between states (major rivers, etc) and coastlines. Others, such as the department of education or arts have no purpose and just waste money.

Our federal administrative agencies are a huge fourth branch of government. I'd argue that they've become more powerful than a Congress that rubber stamps spending bills.
This fourth branch isn't going away because you think it's unconstitutional. That ship sailed along time ago.
Now there are things that can be done, but thinking that you can walk into a federal court and argue that the EPA is unconstitutional and the next time an EPA official shows up on your land that you're going to fill his ass with buckshot isn't going to turn out so well.

Trump won the nomination because his supporters understand that. They sense their liberty and well being of the country is put in jeopardy by this in internationalist class who now rules Washington D.C. and much of Europe. No other Republican candidate properly addressed this issue.

Not for the 'hardliners', no.
However, yesterday I was in a foul mood all day over the Trump/Cruz spectacle, and the people here sniping at one another.
I supported Cruz and detest the Clintons, btw.
I really started to warm up to Trump by listening to his speech last night, not really believing the rhetoric that much, but feeling he does truly love and support his country.
Felt good at work this morning and when I check the news this noontime it's all back to the mess from yesterday. Trump has to solidify his base and that includes people who really don't appreciate his, shall we say, finer points.
To keep attacking his defeated opponent at this stage does not reflect well on him.
I hope this explains my position.

Look, I believe that Cruz was a better choice on the merits than Donald Trump. There is virtually nothing that anyone can really say to convince me otherwise at this point. I find Trump detestable in virtually every way.
Personally, I think that Trump can't let Cruz go because Cruz was the only one to really beat him in the primary. I remember the night that Cruz won Iowa -- Trump was rather subdued in his concession speech that night. He knew he lost, but his persona, psychological makeup, whatever you want to call it, reasserted itself the next few days. Trump never loses, you see. Cruz must have cheated. And thus, Lyin' Cruz was born.
Whatever. We all have our Orange Julius Caesar now. No-one is rooting for Cruz Brutus really anymore. I'm going to focus less on the day to day of this shit -- because at the end of the day, it doesn't really matter.

What's dismaying to me about that some Trump supporters are cheering his after-the-bell pummeling of Cruz.
I've got a huge Trump supporter in my family, a guy who's always been a strong conservative. Not the brightest bulb in the box, but not dumb. Just an average conservative.
I don't fault him much for supporting Trump in the primaries. But he's gleeful about the continued attacks on Cruz, and he's excited that this may be the end of Cruz's political career. I'm completely fucking mystified. Cruz is a solid, principled conservative, and we're lucky to have him. But because he got in Trump's way, no punishment is too great. He must be purged.
It's absolutely infuriating.

Every losing primary candidate since the dawn of time has had an interest in seeing the nominee lose. Trump is the first nominee in history to keep whaling on the primary runner-up.
Cruz presents absolutely no threat to Trump if Trump just leaves him alone. Cruz wasn't going to make speeches telling anyone not to vote for Trump. He was going to disappear into the woodwork like everyone else. Cruz is forgotten and has no influence as soon as Trump starts talking about him.
But now Cruz has incentive and opportunity to hit back. Trump is picking a fight that affords him no benefit at all.
