22 BLM has demands, such as civilian oversight of cop shootings and demilitarizing the police. It's arguable whether these are reasonable or good, but my point here is solely that Obama could take actions towards those, make statements that progress is happening and that *they can go away now* but he would rather keep the rancor going without resolution for his own ends.

As I understand it, the police are under no constitutional right to protect you. So, what is stopping police chiefs nationwide from announcing that, whenever any restaurant is caught defiling an officer's food, that restaurant will not receive any protection, neither will any assault, break-in or murder be investigated?

56 I can;t help but notice that the BLM insanity has suddenly stopped after the Baton Rouge killings (Looks like Kansas City was just a regular street thugs shoot-out, not politically motivated). It was clearly getting out of control and causing problems for Hillary and the Dems. More incidents this week during the Republican convention would have been a gift to Trump. So lo and behold, no more intimidating marches, riots or shootings. This whole BLM "grass-roots movement" is controlled by the Dems/DNC and the silence this week makes it obvious.

71 On the MPAA civil suit regarding evil smoking in movies:

Now the plaintiffs, led by Timothy Forsyth, are arguing that movie ratings are not protected by the first amendment, according to the Hollywood Reporter. They argue that the link between on-screen smoking and teenage uptake is scientifically provable and their complaint is therefore about false advertising.

Nothing the liberals like more than telling other people what to do. And I would say this load of fertilizer is just about as scientifically provable as the AGW scam.

That said, this is all a bullshit distraction. And unless I am completely wrong in my analysis of the mood of the country, it won't mean a fucking thing to Trump voters. Hell, it will probably galvanize them even more.

The only downside is that it distracts from the important message of just how evil Tia Borracha and the Left are.

Orrin Hatch IS a gaping hole. Aside from defending Clarence Thomas, he has not done a damn thing to advance the cause of liberty. In fact, he is a get-along, go-along New Deal Republican.

The last time he was on Levin, before 2010 (or 12?), he flat out lied to him about everything from Obamacare to the budget. Levin has lit into him ever since about it.

And Hatch is desperately trying to get rid of Mike Lee, who has an ACU rating of close to 100%.

In particular, Katherine Herridge is doing Pulitzer-level reporting, not that she'll ever get one.

BTW, Donald Trump Jr. has a future in politics, for sure. He wasn't just a great speaker, I saw some news broadcasts that he was behind the scenes, networking, following up, schmoozing, etc.

Given the Left's ability to murder potential threats in the womb (in the figurative as well as literal terms) I hope he stays out of trouble.

103 I recently received an email at work which had at the bottom (as part of the electronic signature), "My pronouns: he, him, his." So I printed it out and took it around to a couple of my very conservative friends. Neither of them knew about the "fluid gender" situation and the "xe, xer" neologisms. That got me to thinking: is it better to be thoroughly informed about politics, modern culture, and news like we all seem to be, or just live our lives with our conservative values, and enjoy our friends, families, work, and hobbies? Is there a balance, and if so, what is it? What defines "political obsession"? Sometimes, I feel like if I pull back, I am enabling my own ignorance. But often, this stuff does indeed get overwhelming.

I know the Trump fanatics are going to jump in my chili but Paul Manafort was with the Ford campaign in '76 and is not a conservative. And the kerfluffle on Day One was him, along with Paul Ryan and Rancid Pubis cementing in place the rules from 2012 to freeze out Tea Party conservatives and screw over the base.

147 Turkey will announce emergency measures on Wednesday to try to shore up stability and prevent damage to the economy as it purges thousands of members of the security forces, judiciary, civil service and academia after an abortive coup.

Around 50,000 soldiers, police, judges, civil servants and teachers have been suspended or detained since the military coup attempt, raising tensions across the country of 80 million which borders Syrias chaos and is a Western ally against Islamic State.

Academics were banned from traveling abroad on Wednesday in what a Turkish official said was a temporary measure to prevent the risk of alleged coup plotters in universities from fleeing. State TRT television said 95 academics had been removed from their posts at Istanbul University alone.

My friend and I thought he was dead for a second and then thought he would be carted off by an ambulance.

We walked in the Chattanooga civic center at 11am and hung out in the seats for 5 hours watching them put together and set up the taping for Raw. Several wrestlers came and sat down with us to chat. The Hardy Boys were by far the most gracious and chatted us up like we were good friends.

Great 3 days. A pay per view. A live Raw. And a taped Raw.

170 Here is some free advice for the Trump campaign...

When the media attacks, attack back.

The next time one of the surrogates is asked about Melania's speech, say that it's time to get specific.

Ask: "You're saying that Melania "stole" Michelle Obama's words from her 2008 speech. Specifically, you're talking about phrases like [work hard for the things you want in life] and [your word is your bond]. Are you putting your credibility and the credibility of your news organization on the line saying that Michelle Obama was the original author of those sayings?"

"Have you or your organization researched speeches prior to Michelle Obama's to see if anyone ever uttered those words in that order before?"

"People have been using these common phrases for decades. This whole controversy has been manufactured and is the reason why the media is held in such low esteem by the public."

But two things: my wife and I were watching her speech, when she said that Trump would never give you up, he would never let you down, my wife said "Did she just rickroll us?"

Second - I want to hear her say, just once: "Oliver, the hotscakes are ready!"

Unsolicited advice...

At 62, about the only job is one where he works for himself. It can be something as simple as cutting lawns, self employment is the way to go.

Of course, I'm not saying he should personally push a mower, but at 62 he has the skills to get up every morning, call and wake the young the guys he will use to do the work, schedule the jobs, sell the service to people who long for a mature, trustworthy person to hire, direct the labor, check the results, pay the workers, keep the equipment working and the hundreds of other little details that take a grown up to do.

Applying for jobs at companies at age 62 is just an exercise in disappointment. Don't put him through that.

I think it's a combination of a few things. Chiefly, older workers normally require higher salaries due to experience and skills and they also might not be staying around for more than a few years (retiring or continuing to look for something that pays better), so you'll need to start a job search again fairly soon.

Being happy is the goal.

That reminds me, in a twisted kind of way, of a scene in the series Boss with Kelsey Grammer. He is the mayor of Chicago and one of the local aldermen that pissed him off comes to his office for a meeting. He gets up in the middle of the conversation, makes the guy keep talking, and then walks over to the bathroom in his office to take a huge dump....all the while continuing the conversation. Once he is done, he gets off the stool, comes out and dismisses the guy...but not before making him shake his hand. He then goes and washes up.

That scene made me price out having a bathroom installed in my office.

As I recall:

When nicey-nice Bush entered the White House, he left a bunch of Clinton appointees/employees in place. (Some of them were complete stupids whom he belatedly let go after 9/11.) He did not follow standard practice and let a bunch of DOJ employees go who "serve at the pleasure of the president." Every other administration routinely lets these people go.

Bush did so belatedly, upon appointing that grinning chimp Alberto Gonzalez. Everyone went up in arms screaming "Politics! Evil!" and that grinning chimp Gonzalez ran out apologizing and blubbering and explaining instead of just saying that those people "serve at the pleasure of the president."

Eventually, the grinning chimp Gonzalez (who did not prosecute Sandy Berger for stealing from the National Archives) also quit.

That's how I remember it.

325 Off topic rant, but I have been a subscriber to NR since my college days in the 70's and my question is when did I miss them becoming the vindictive ex-wife? It's like they really believe the Flake line that Trump is to be treated the way WFB sorted the Birchers. Okay guys, you've made your point but this nonsense about playing for 2020 and the soul of the party is silly, and dangerous. I hope my guy Cruz does the right thing tonight.

Easy. he suggests that 'we' failed the convicted thug who was threatening people with an illegally-carried handgun before resisting arrest and trying to pull the weapon on the officers tasked with neutralizing the threat to the public.

Alton's just another victim - BLM is right, and it's America that has f*cked up here.

A. It's the premise: he's attributing these shootings to racism as if that is an estab;ished fact. It is not..

B. BLM was started by Commies/life-long activists funded by Soros, so not hijacked by an irresponsible few, but founded by and brimming with an irresponsible many.

340 Not to mention, Wright State's unofficial motto is "India's Safety School. Also, Saudi Arabia's." But the KSA has decided they will no longer pay for students to attend schools that aren't among the Top 50 in America. Wright State won't make that cut, and believe me, there are a shitload of foreign students on that campus. Foreign students are the cash cows of the American University system.

And worse, the last university president started a whole bunch of programs without any idea how to fund them.

Aaand when has he ever made this same case for someone like Kate Steinle or Brian Terry?

None of these people (and scores of others who have dies because of Obama's policies) were breaking the law when they were killed --- yet he asks us again and again to pause and consider the implications of Travon's, Browns, Sterling's lives, as if we are all partly responsible for them, and not for Steinle, Terry, et al.

Assuming that he was 17, the Axe terrorist arrived in Germany unaccompanied at age 15 though he had a father that he up until last week, communicated with by computer. So, why did they not send him back to his family? Doesnt sound like the family was in danger and that the terrorist was in any danger.

349 Hey Horde, all of social media and not just Twitter has pledged support to progressive fascism, and they're willing to do so despite knowing it will affect them economically.

Remember in the spring when Hellarys minions went to the west coast and had a meeting with the heads of social media? They said it was a fundraiser, but word got out that they had pledged to help shape the narrative between then and the election.

So Twitter is just one. Yes they are paying the price but don't care. Those in the know have moved assets away from harm, no doubt. After it sells, after the election, they'll claim some renewed commitment to free speech and all will be forgiven.

I have no problems with the ratings on movies for smoking. As the MPAA sez, ratings are opinions. The guy is going to lose the lawsuit.

I'm a non smoker. However, smoking in films especially with young actors was so prevalent that even I came out of a movie wanting a cigarette. And by prevalent I mean they chained smoked in the movie. All these actors are chain smokers. The ones the tabloids dont like they will show smoking but the others they will not usually take their photos when they are smoking.
