19 I think there's a chance that what you said happened with the Brexit thing could happen with Trump. The media keeps saying if you support Trump you're an idiot. So people generally don't "admit" to supporting him. So polling shows his support as being lower than it actually is.

Maybe.

52 Polls have no credibility. Quit acting as if they do.

The only poll that matters is in November. I routinely ignore polls because they are not designed to give an accurate representative sample of what people actually think, they are designed to influence how people think and act.

The sheer fact that this poll is in Trump's favor given all of the opposition he faces leads me to believe it's real. But I don't rely upon it any more than I would rely upon polls that oppose him. Why waste the time?

77 Hillary with a 10-point lead was an outlier. I think this is closer to the truth. One poll will show Hillary up by a few, another will show Trump...until we really start getting into the election season and the debates begin.

Trump has only just started with his policy speeches. He's given 4 so far, with more to come. I have also seen less of the crazy tweeting like during the primary.

Look, Trump supporters will not move away from Trump if he tones it down. They are already firmly in his camp. But if he tones it down (which I think he already has), he will start gathering steam with those who were uneasy about his over-the-top primary persona.

Just wait until the convention. Trump said at one point in his life, he wanted to work in Hollywood. That is very clear from some of his recent past: the Apprentice TV show and the Miss Universe pageant. He knows how to put on a show. The RNC convention is usually a boring affair for those who aren't political. Trump is going to make it more entertaining, and it will reach a MUCH wider audience this way.

By September, those 'close' polls will start to shake out with more positivity for Trump.

I suspect there's a large number of these types out there, and we'll see wildly swinging polls depending on where it's conducted and who's doing the polling.

The Donald Trump campaign is vetting New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) as a potential running mate for the presumptive presidential nominee, according to multiple reports.

Those with knowledge of the process told The New York Times on Thursday that Christie is among those being vetted as a possible vice presidential pick for Trump. And an unnamed source told CNN the governor has received the official paperwork for the vetting process.

I saw a speech that the guy who put those records into the CT database in the first place made at the National Press Club about those records being deleted.

There is some significant BS going on with this one. When San Benadino happened, this guy was able to piece together ties back to a Muslim Brotherhood ongoing recruitment operation through mosques. He did the same thing with the Mateen in Orlando. And he was able to do it with public records.

Bottom line is there is an underground effort being funded to build radicalism and support for Sharia within the US web of mosques, and there are people inside the administration that are actively covering it up.

147 The entire polling industry is utterly discredited int he wake of the Brexit vote.

The final poll, which was a massive nationwide in-person poll, taken the day before the vote, had "Remain" leading by TEN POINTS, 55%-45%.

And then 18 hours later, it lost by four points.

That's a 14-point error.

An error that large means the poll is essentially meaningless.

How could they get it so wrong?

All sorts of reason, which pundits have already analyzed to death.

But my theory is this:

-- Polling companies are staffed at the bottom level -- the level of the people actually knocking on doors or making the calls -- by people in their early 20s, because it is basically a minimum wage job, for people just entering the job market.

-- Young people generally lean much further left than the rest of society.

-- They also pretty unskilled at hiding their feelings.

-- Most people know that young people are brainwashed lefties who tut tut their disapproval at anyone who violated the leftist Hive Mind.

-- So when a young person knocks on your door or calls you and asks you a specific question about a hot-button left/right issue, you are going to hesitate to tell them the truth that you prefer the right side.

-- End result: poll skewed.

178 This isn't hard to understand folks.

This Rasmussen poll is of Likely Voters and so it makes some attempt to adjust for turnout. The other recent national polls from the likes of NBC and ABC were of Registered Voters -- so no adjustment for turnout -- where the pollsters went even further and put their fingers on the scale by oversampling registered Democratic voter. This was done on purpose, to generate headline ledes to show Hillary crushing Trump, and so drive Those Who Doubt Trump into hysterics, Ace included.

Notably the Rasmussen poll shows a big swing to Trump from its prior poll, even while Trump was getting beat on by most of MSM and criticized for not raising a billion to make it rain for the Beltway Class. Changes over time in a repeated poll can give an accurate assessment of momentum, even if the poll has some flaws.

Once again, turnout will be the key to this election and it's highly likely to be very different from 2008 and 2012, and hence hard to poll for.

182 One more thing consistent in most polls not orchestrated by the Amazon Post...Hillary's numbers are below 45% and in some cases below 40% too.

This is what a gutter fight election is supposed to look like. It was the only way this election would play out no matter who the nominee was because that is how Team Clinton rolls. People obsess on Trump's negatives, but ignore the positives: He is a great gutter fighter, and he threatens Hillary's flank in a way no Republican ever has.

She is now the defender of "rich people"...not an easy task as the GOP can attest in the last two Presidential elections.

184 Since we have a poll thread, a repost of my comments from earlier today...

---------------
Good morning Horde!

In polling news today, the Fox release their poll for the month of June. This poll is not good for Trump and shows a steep slide during the month.

The results of the poll are Clinton 44% and Trump 38%. This is an 8 point shift in the poll series in the last month. In May this poll was Clinton 42 and Trump 44.

Clinton's support remained about the same, but Trump dropped significantly. I does show that Trump failed to capitalize on the terrorism in Orlando.

Overall the RCP average remains about the same, with Clinton leading by an average of 6.1%.

RCP did not include those weird battleground polls in their state polling averages. If I were them, I wouldn't since they are an unknown firm with no track record.

------------------------
Hey, we had all that discussion of polls in the headline thread and we missed one.

PPP also released a new poll today, and this one looks pretty good for Trump too.

The result is Clinton 48 - Trump 44. But the last time they ran the poll the result was Clinton 47 - Trump 41.

So summary of this week's polls so far:

Q - from 45-41 to 42-40 - 2 point shift toward Trump
Fox - from 42-45 to 44-38 - 9 point shift toward Clinton
PPP - from 47-41 to 48-44 - 2 point shift toward Trump
Ras - from 44-39 to 39-43 - 9 point shift toward Trump

Buckle your seat belts indeed.

Its pretty simple: they're setting up Lynch's future and the payments when Hillary wins. Push the investigation or indict, she has no future. She was negotiating her cut from the Clinton Foundation and where she'll be in the Hillary administration.

I really believe ammunition is what they will eventually curtail, and I would not doubt they try to ban assembling your own ammo in the near future.

For a number of calibers I shoot, the only component that is not replaceable is the primer.

Posted by: Maritime

Uhhh -- that's the entire purpose of producing skewed polls. To produce the feeling of inevitability.

I wrote a massive essay back in 2008 debunking this. I think it has the opposite effect -- a skewed poll will make the artificially inflated side feel complacent, while the artificially depressed side will redouble their efforts. I think the practice of skewing polls backfires every time. I've never seen any proof that people "give up" when their side is shown to be behind in a close race.

In 2008 and 2012, he was largely "right" because the Obama campaign gave him their internal polls which are usually FAR more expensive and thorough than MSM polling. Millions and millions are spent on these polls and are usually kept secret.

278 Bernie people hate, loathe, despise, and don't very much like Hillary. Warren makes it easy for them to reconcile themselves.

I think Warren is a likely choice, too, but this is not something Democrats have to worry about. Democrats will vote Democrat regardless of what they think of the candidate. It's their main advantage. Even having the press in their pocket is a result of the press being made up mostly of democrats, and democrats supporting even bad democrats.

280 Why would AG Lynch meet with Bill Clinton privately when they "accidentally" crossed paths on a tarmac in Phoenix?

Now add another data point: Hillary still hasn't had her cup of coffee with FBI head Comey, which was supposed to be the last step before the FBI wrapped up its investigation. This is way overdue which suggests that Hillary is delaying it in hopes that if she gets past the Convention Comey won't have the balls to make a criminal referral.

Now it'd be really stupid for Lynch to meet with Bill privately like she just did to tell him the fix was in. There are other simpler ways to send that message. Hillary doesn't need more bad optics that she's getting a pass on Obama's orders.

So I conclude that Lynch was delivering a real message, the kind you can' deliver in an e-mail or even a phone call: Lynch was telling Bill that an FBI criminal referral is coming, because Comey won't wait on Hillary's having a cup of coffee with him any longer. This will hit soon, and certainly before the D's convention.

Obama is scheduled to campaign with Hillary next week in NC. I want to see their body language.

283 Nothing that happens prior to October 15 is worth paying the slightest attention to. Polls up, polls down, it's all meaningless. Because in those last 2-and-a-half weeks, there will be a series of October Surprises, both real and hoax, that will keep everyone's heads spinning til election day. The numbers will seesaw wildly as each candidate is spectacularly discredited over and over 7 times per 24-hour news cycle.

Where it all ends up on election day would be like predicting where the ball lands on a roulette wheel.

My thinking on polls at this point in time is if they are trending up for Trump, that's good, but the numbers themselves don't mean much.

My guess on T.'s VP pick is that he will pick someone who can guarantee free airtime at every venue she attends.

I've read up on Comey. 'Balls' have nothing to do with anything here. Everything points to a principled, honest, incorruptable lawman being put in an impossible position. If the evidence warrants it, Comeywill almost certainlymake the referral and then stand helplesslybyas his boss refuses to go forward, as we all know she will. If the evidence doesn't warrant it, he won't. Either way,the fact that he's pursued this investigation at all means he'llbe forced to resign at some point no matter the outcome.

The only reasonComey still has his job is because the optics of his resignation in the middle of this investigation would look terrible for the Administration right now.

387 To be consistent it the horse race numbers don't matter at this point. What does matter, and has all along, is that Clinton is a de facto incumbent and always polls below 50 percent. If she were a senator up for re-election, the DNC would be getting ready to shift resources away from her.

People don't want to hear it, but Trump was/is the only Republican who could win this cycle. If he pulls it out, Trump definitely needs to cut the #nevertrump-trash adrift. They are cancer, and had been cancer, on the party and had been for decades.

Clinton also is under investigation for violations of the public records act and the Espionage Act. There is sufficient evidence now to prove those crimes beyond a reasonable doubt. Comey is just compiling a mountain of evidence to slam on Lynch's desk to embarrass her when she doesn't prosecute.

I have no doubt there will be a leak. Given how risky and politically damaging this meeting was, my guess is Bill wanted Lynch to hold off until after the convention telling Comey she won't indict. This is about to explode, in all likelihood, since this meeting involved more risks than the Clintons normally take politically. You are right about the target not having to cooperate, but Hillary's attorney may have strung out the never-gonna-happen interview terms.

All elections are event-driven but this one is jaw-dropping in that regard.

Posted by: 0302 at June 30, 2016 02:30 PM (wx6iv)

397 polls are meaningless this far out. It's great PR for Trump and quiets all the doomsayers. As all polls show there is a ton of voters still out there that hasn't made a decision. tons of voters still up for grabs. I would imagine once all the dumptrump crap is done with after the convention his numbers will go up. Same with Hillary was the sanders supporters feel the burn of defeat at the convention. Then maybe the polls will mean something. Regardless of how accurate the poll is and I think if you take this poll and the last couple the answer is somewhere in the middle or that its a neck and neck race. Unlike the McCain's and Mitt's who could never go higher in polls I think Trump has a lot of room to move up as he shows himself to the people and they understand he really isn't this racist, nutjob that the media has shown. As the remainders in the UK found out once the voters find out there isn't anything to fear but fear itself and the fear stories don't match the truth then it all starts to unravel.

Our difficulty in knowing the real state of the race is complicated by the demonization of Trump by the Left Gangster Squad made up of DNC, media and academia.

There may be a lot more support out there than the polls can discover in the present environment.
