Either way, I agree with others that say to take these polls with a grain of salt. First of all, it's still too early and secondly, I'm not sure all the old rules apply this time. I think alot of people are voting for Trump who won't tell a soul that they are.

The only poll that matters is in November. I routinely ignore polls because they are not designed to give an accurate representative sample of what people actually think, they are designed to influence how people think and act.
The sheer fact that this poll is in Trump's favor given all of the opposition he faces leads me to believe it's real. But I don't rely upon it any more than I would rely upon polls that oppose him. Why waste the time?

Trump has only just started with his policy speeches. He's given 4 so far, with more to come. I have also seen less of the crazy tweeting like during the primary.
Look, Trump supporters will not move away from Trump if he tones it down. They are already firmly in his camp. But if he tones it down (which I think he already has), he will start gathering steam with those who were uneasy about his over-the-top primary persona.
Just wait until the convention. Trump said at one point in his life, he wanted to work in Hollywood. That is very clear from some of his recent past: the Apprentice TV show and the Miss Universe pageant. He knows how to put on a show. The RNC convention is usually a boring affair for those who aren't political. Trump is going to make it more entertaining, and it will reach a MUCH wider audience this way.
By September, those 'close' polls will start to shake out with more positivity for Trump.

The Donald Trump campaign is vetting New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) as a potential running mate for the presumptive presidential nominee, according to multiple reports.

I saw a speech that the guy who put those records into the CT database in the first place made at the National Press Club about those records being deleted.
There is some significant BS going on with this one. When San Benadino happened, this guy was able to piece together ties back to a Muslim Brotherhood ongoing recruitment operation through mosques. He did the same thing with the Mateen in Orlando. And he was able to do it with public records.
Bottom line is there is an underground effort being funded to build radicalism and support for Sharia within the US web of mosques, and there are people inside the administration that are actively covering it up.

My take on Trump is rather similar to Churchill's take on democracy.
Trump is the worst candidate of the lot...except for all the others.
I think one thing Trump needs to do is really focus on hammering Hillary. The State Media will try to make her appealing and not only is she an outright fascist, she is a terrible, horrible person.
If the time for representative government is over, at least support a Julius Caesar LIVs - Hillary is a low brow Nero.

That said, Rasmussen is generally a reliable barometer who uses decent sampling.
Plus I think the polling in general for Trump is under reported. Even worse, my family has some Obama voters who are telling me they won't show up for The Hag. That's bad, as some of them are hardcore.
I think the mood is changing and while people might not be thrilled with Trump, they want someone who is not the same old Washington Insider who lies, cheats and steals their way to election, then dick punches the country when they get there.
I think that provide Trump the edge, and he's really settled down as of late so people can see his real nature.

Like it or not, polls are part of what drives the narrative and can have a self-fulfilling prophecy effect.
Therefore, it is quite rational to trumpet the polls you or your candidate are up in, and downplay or explain away the others. It can have an impact on voters and volunteers action or non-action.

The final poll, which was a massive nationwide in-person poll, taken the day before the vote, had "Remain" leading by TEN POINTS, 55%-45%.
And then 18 hours later, it lost by four points.
That's a 14-point error.
An error that large means the poll is essentially meaningless.
How could they get it so wrong?
All sorts of reason, which pundits have already analyzed to death.
But my theory is this:
-- Polling companies are staffed at the bottom level -- the level of the people actually knocking on doors or making the calls -- by people in their early 20s, because it is basically a minimum wage job, for people just entering the job market.
-- Young people generally lean much further left than the rest of society.
-- They also pretty unskilled at hiding their feelings.
-- Most people know that young people are brainwashed lefties who tut tut their disapproval at anyone who violated the leftist Hive Mind.
-- So when a young person knocks on your door or calls you and asks you a specific question about a hot-button left/right issue, you are going to hesitate to tell them the truth that you prefer the right side.
-- End result: poll skewed.

Honestly, if I didn't see the polls, I would be convinced Trump is losing by 10-20 points.
So showing it's a "tied" game means our side doesn't write the election off and not participate.
My fear is though that the MSM will skew the polls as the election gets close to the point where it becomes a self-fulfilling prophesy.

Also, polling companies are corrupt. Why do a poll that is heavily weighted to one side? The results will not be accurate and few if any people look at the methodology. Oh yeah. And Chelsea's ample a$$ too, I think. It is a highly complex case (using multiple corps, partnerships etc. in different countries), obviously global in scope and executed by pros. A bona fide investigation cannot be concluded before Obama leaves office, in my estimation.

This Rasmussen poll is of Likely Voters and so it makes some attempt to adjust for turnout. The other recent national polls from the likes of NBC and ABC were of Registered Voters -- so no adjustment for turnout -- where the pollsters went even further and put their fingers on the scale by oversampling registered Democratic voter. This was done on purpose, to generate headline ledes to show Hillary crushing Trump, and so drive Those Who Doubt Trump into hysterics, Ace included.
Notably the Rasmussen poll shows a big swing to Trump from its prior poll, even while Trump was getting beat on by most of MSM and criticized for not raising a billion to make it rain for the Beltway Class. Changes over time in a repeated poll can give an accurate assessment of momentum, even if the poll has some flaws.
Once again, turnout will be the key to this election and it's highly likely to be very different from 2008 and 2012, and hence hard to poll for.

In polling news today, the Fox release their poll for the month of June. This poll is not good for Trump and shows a steep slide during the month.
The results of the poll are Clinton 44% and Trump 38%. This is an 8 point shift in the poll series in the last month. In May this poll was Clinton 42 and Trump 44.
Clinton's support remained about the same, but Trump dropped significantly. I does show that Trump failed to capitalize on the terrorism in Orlando.
Overall the RCP average remains about the same, with Clinton leading by an average of 6.1%.
RCP did not include those weird battleground polls in their state polling averages. If I were them, I wouldn't since they are an unknown firm with no track record.

PPP also released a new poll today, and this one looks pretty good for Trump too.
The result is Clinton 48 - Trump 44. But the last time they ran the poll the result was Clinton 47 - Trump 41.
So summary of this week's polls so far:
Q - from 45-41 to 42-40 - 2 point shift toward Trump
Fox - from 42-45 to 44-38 - 9 point shift toward Clinton
PPP - from 47-41 to 48-44 - 2 point shift toward Trump
Ras - from 44-39 to 39-43 - 9 point shift toward Trump

I wrote a massive essay back in 2008 debunking this. I think it has the opposite effect -- a skewed poll will make the artificially inflated side feel complacent, while the artificially depressed side will redouble their efforts. I think the practice of skewing polls backfires every time. I've never seen any proof that people "give up" when their side is shown to be behind in a close race.

Just to put that in perspective, Bush SR in 1988 got millions of more votes than Reagan did in 1980.
You would think a campaign could get the same level of support that the GOP nominee got 8 years ago.
I think the deciding factor was Obama's political machine simply did a better job at the margins. But he still was down HEAVILY from 4 years ago.

Put that's kind of misleading. I can tell you with 100% condifence how 40/51 states will vote in 2016. I can tell you with 90% confifence how 45/51. And then the last 6 it's a toss up. So yeah he got 6 of the 6, but even those 6 were pretty known...the only real toss up states in 2012 were NC and FL, the rest you could feel would go one way or the other.

In 2008 and 2012, he was largely "right" because the Obama campaign gave him their internal polls which are usually FAR more expensive and thorough than MSM polling. Millions and millions are spent on these polls and are usually kept secret.

Now add another data point: Hillary still hasn't had her cup of coffee with FBI head Comey, which was supposed to be the last step before the FBI wrapped up its investigation. This is way overdue which suggests that Hillary is delaying it in hopes that if she gets past the Convention Comey won't have the balls to make a criminal referral.
Now it'd be really stupid for Lynch to meet with Bill privately like she just did to tell him the fix was in. There are other simpler ways to send that message. Hillary doesn't need more bad optics that she's getting a pass on Obama's orders.
So I conclude that Lynch was delivering a real message, the kind you can' deliver in an e-mail or even a phone call: Lynch was telling Bill that an FBI criminal referral is coming, because Comey won't wait on Hillary's having a cup of coffee with him any longer. This will hit soon, and certainly before the D's convention.

I've read up on Comey. 'Balls' have nothing to do with anything here. Everything points to a principled, honest, incorruptable lawman being put in an impossible position.If the evidence warrants it, Comeywill almost certainlymake the referral and then stand helplesslybyas his boss refuses to go forward, as we all know she will. If the evidence doesn't warrant it, he won't. Either way,the fact that he's pursued this investigation at all means he'llbe forced to resign at some point no matter the outcome.
The only reasonComey still has his job is because the optics of his resignation in the middle of this investigation would look terrible for the Administration right now.

Clinton also is under investigation for violations of the public records act and the Espionage Act. There is sufficient evidence now to prove those crimes beyond a reasonable doubt. Comey is just compiling a mountain of evidence to slam on Lynch's desk to embarrass her when she doesn't prosecute.

I have no doubt there will be a leak. Given how risky and politically damaging this meeting was, my guess is Bill wanted Lynch to hold off until after the convention telling Comey she won't indict. This is about to explode, in all likelihood, since this meeting involved more risks than the Clintons normally take politically. You are right about the target not having to cooperate, but Hillary's attorney may have strung out the never-gonna-happen interview terms.
All elections are event-driven but this one is jaw-dropping in that regard.
