This is what happens when a university snowflake encounters the corporate world.
Now as foolish as the girl was this is really a failure of her educators and parents. She was only repeating what she had been trained to do and rewarded for all during her snowflake education. She truly did not see that she had no standing to complain and that her narcissistic activism would be disapproved of so strongly. And from her letter in the article it doesn't appear that she has learned very much from the experience either.
But of course young people have always been a bit self-focused and prone to do all the stupid, foolish things that young people are wont to do though the exact menu of which stupid, idiotic things are chosen from varies from generation to generation. So I'm not surprised that there was a person like the letter-writer making a fuss over the dress code the way she did. Usually people like this just get severely embarrassed or let go and all the other newbies have a smirk at their foolishness and also learn a lesson from the example.
But what stands out here to me is that all but one of the interns signed the petition. Which means that all the signers ran the petition-signing scenario through their future-world consequence prediction machine and decided that yes - this will work out great! This common high level of unfounded self-esteem mixed with a complete unfamiliarity with how the real world actually works may be a unique trait of young millennials that is over and beyond all the traditional youthful stupidities. Brexit wasn't just evidence of a natural concern over one's well being in the face of rising Islamism amidst the European Union's lax immigration policy, it's also a big middle finger (or two "middle" fingers, if you're British) to those who cannot prioritize injustice, or evil.

I've said it before - I was a terrible piano student when I was kid. I wasn't the best musician in my class, and I didn't start studying music early in life, either.It's easy to attribute success to having "natural talent," but that's not really the case nine times out of ten. Not that I don't believe that such a thing exists - I do, I just think it's a bit overrated. If you want to get good enough at something to stand out from your peers, there are no shortcuts. Whether it's music, sports, public speaking, you name it.one way or another, you're going to need to spend a lot of time practicing, so you might as well make peace with the idea.
I find that the secret is to make practicing part of your day in such an unconscious way that you hardly have to think about it; it's simply a habit. Habits get a bad rap; we tend to think of things like biting our nails or smoking when we talk about them. But really, a habit is defined (according my lazy Google search-based research) as "a settled or regular tendency or practice, especially one that is hard to give up." Brushing your teeth is a habit (for most of us). So is showing up to work on time. Those are good habits. Turning practice time into a habit, then, makes it an automatic part of your day and therefore more likely to get done consistently.
...There are 24 hours in each day. Most of those hours aren't really ours; they get used up by sleep, meals, work, family, etc. But some of them are wide open. Try picking up a habit or two, and see where it takes you.

Yes and you also need to want that skill. I have coworkers that have used pieces of equipment in our lab just as long as I have but have no clue what to do if things don't go exactly right. Also no clue how the machine does what it does so bad data just gets passed on.

While UKIP was 3rd preference in the last election and has somewhat broad support, said support isn't concentrated enough to get UKIP members into British Parliament. IIRC, there's only one UKIP MP and Farage himself lost his bid to become an MP last May.
With that being said, I dunno what the future of UKIP is now. I honestly think they should stick around to make sure that Britain does formally leave the EU, but then dissolve, as they would have served their purpose. But who knows? *shrugs*.

Actually, it is, but not in the way this fool thinks.
Somehow the notion of democracy has been perverted into the notion that just because 51% of the populace voted for a candidate, that said candidate can take away my right to bear arms, or the majority of the fruit of my labor, or my right to follow my religion.
This is of course the criticism of democracy by modern monarchists and the like, and there is something to it.
Our founders gave us a republic, not because the act of voting was actually of any ultimate importance, but because it seems to be the form of government best suited to protect our rights.
And yet the corrupted version of that republic was see today believes that a simple vote can deprive a free man of his rights? Soon I fear we will need to remind the government that all of its power comes from the governed and we are governed, not ruled.

One example, I probably have told before, is one guy who was one level above me, answered the phone (landlines only back then) while I was in the office eating lunch. He called to me that it was my babysitter: "your baby's dead." Hilarious. Just knew he was a jerk, his life would not be good, and let him hang himself with his own rope. Then another time he told us, when someone was eating spagettios that they were ring worms in menstrual fluid, another funny one! But at least nobody was wearing unapproved footwear!

Plus the petition basically works on the premise that you have a large group of people signing and thereby "pressuring with their numbers". Not a smart way to approach an employer, even if you are an experienced employee.
Also, for those who didn't go back to the original story, the employee who was allowed to wear non-dress code shoes, had been a soldier who lost her leg, so they made an exemption for her.

I read the post on the dress code interns/petitioners. YES, the company was *within its rights* to fire them all. YES, companies should have the right to set whatever dress codes they want; if they want men to always dress all in blue and women to always dress all in pink, let new hires know and they can decide if they want to take the job or not. YES, it was none of these interns' business why that particular employee got to break the rules.
Having said that...
I do *not* believe, at ALL, in the adage "management is always right." If management is always right, why are so many companies failing?
Last night we spent a lot of time talking about failing chains such as Sears. Is it customers' fault that no one wants to shop there anymore? Is it the fault of the on-the-floor personnel? No, it's the fault of people at the top who refuse to hear new ideas, who still think the world wide web is a fad, and who don't care enough about the future of their company or their own employees to change anything.
The left fetishizes "petitions" and "organizing" like these foolish interns did, and they're just stupid about it. People have to get used to the idea that yes, life is unfair; get used to it. But I'm also sick of the way the right fetishizes authority and management. They're not always right-- as in correct, either.
I could go on for miles about this subject. Anyway, I've probably got enough people pissed at me for this anyway.
TL;DR: Yes, those interns were wrong and deserved to get fired, but management isn't always right either.

I think the management went too far in firing them all, but they were interns and basically hanging by a thread to begin with. Management can be really stupid.
But the bottom line is this: you're not owed anything except wages from your boss. He's at work for the same reason as you: to earn a living, not to make your life better or for great justice.

The trick is, first you work your way into management....then you discuss. I've been in management and changed a lot of things -- and taken input from all sorts of non-management workers, much of which I've actively sought.

I have a suspicion that this group of interns was a PITA in other ways as well and that's why management was willing to flush them as a group.
Plus reading between the lines I get the feeling that these were highly sought after internships so the company probably felt that they could easily bring in a fresh group of enthusiastic non-troublemaking interns who they actually might want to hire after graduation.

Very different needs and criteria, but one thing both had in common.
A bit of flexibility where suitable, but not much. The "give an inch and they'll take a mile" thing applies here, in spades.
And, both had a phrase in the introductions to the effect of:
"When you're making clothing choices before you leave your house in the morning, remember. If you have to ask 'would this be okay?', it most likely isn't. If you must err, err on the side of the caution in your work attire choices."
The dress code I wrote in the early '90s didn't have to address tattoos. The one I wrote in 2008, did. Go figure.
The older code is still the basis of their present standards, albeit greatly edited over the years.
The later one remains successfully, in full effect.
Oh, and in both, the jobs were "does not meet public" descriptions. That said, the difference in professional conduct from a decently (slacks, shirt n' tie reqd., but not a suit-coat ensemble), was palpable, as compared to the monthly (not every Friday, just the last Friday of the month), "casual day".
Said casual day still required at least clean jeans with no holes or tears, a collared polo shirt or equivalent.
Tattered jeans and tee shirts were only OK when a major, "deep cleaning" day was called for. Once or twice a year, at most.
Folks were earning a professional paycheck, working with suit n' tie Major Account Reps in the field, and on the phone with prospects and clients ranging from a three man mechanic shop, to other Fortune 1000/500/50 companies.
Needed people to think sharp, act sharp, be sharp. Didn't mind at all, demanding of them to look at least halfway sharp, look like they give a damn, in the process.
Worked out pretty well, too.
They don't seem to teach these things anymore.
I'm gonna go out and contemplate my woefully trod upon lawn.

The company has a dress code, a very strict dress code for a reason. If they are a financial services company, they want to make sure that they are looked at as being professional. Do you want to take financial advice from someone in a suit, or someone in capri pants and sandals?
The second reason is that a company without a strict dress code, has no dress code. My wife works for a large bank, and where she works doesn't have a dress code that is enforced. Shorts? Yes. Tank tops with bellies exposed? Sure. Flip flops? Sure. All against the dress code, but seen every day. Sure she is in a "back office" role, but she says that the company has given an inch, and the employees have taken a mile.

He went and bought a license and hired an Inuit guide as required which made it something like a $30K hunting trip.
Inuit guide sees an all white bear at about 300 yards and says "you can shoot that" and the guy does. Guy shoots the bear and everyone's happy.
Bear turns out to have the wrong proportions and Customs decides there's something fishy and impounds the bear and charges the guy with poaching.
It took years to figure out that it was a rare brown-polar bear hybrid and he'd acted in good faith but he was good and fucked for a long time.

When I started in my industry almost 20 years ago, my company had a very strict dress code. We men had to wear jackets and ties. Even "casual Fridays" were not very casual. We had many clients in and out of the office so it dd make sense, but compared to other companies in our industry, it was still a draconian dress code.
About 5 years later things loosened up a lot, as we went to a more "office casual" code. (no more ties!)
About 5 years after that, the senior of our 2 partners retired and the junior partner took over. Turned out the dress code thing was had been the senior partner's obsession all along, and things got very casual. Technology had marched on and we had fewer and fewer clients in the office. The people who need to meet with clients were now doing it via Skype, GoToMeeting etc.
The over the last 4 years there's been another sea change as we went to work-from-home. Technology has reached a point where there's just no reason to go to an office at all anymore. So now, if one wanted to, they could work in the nude. Not that I do, but I could!
So, from strict jacket-n-tie to working at home in sweats or whatever over the course of my employment.

Heh, yep I remember that strip.
Working at home has its advantages (no winter driving!) but it can make you feel rather hermetic. Sometimes I feel like I never leave the house. I don't meet with clients in my position, even on Skype, and when we have company meetings we're not "on camera" but I have discovered that I work better and just feel better if I shower and shave and put on something decent for work even if no one can see me.

We recently needed to find someone to work a new 1-9 shift which is a very difficult shift to fill. We solved it by hiring a woman in Washington State.
Due to the time difference, she's working 10-6 her time which covers our 1-9 needs. Brilliant!
Over half our company now works from other states. I just finished training a young guy from Miami. They flew him up here to NY and I worked with him for 10 days up here. Recent college grad, of Columbian decent (2nd generation.) LEGAL immigrants.
The kid was as polite, well-spoken and intelligent as could be. You could just tell he was raised right. Gave me some hope for at least SOME of our recent college grads.

This tampon project is absolutely stupid, pathetic, tragic, meaningless and ultimately damaging to those involved.
First of all, the entire "crisis" is imaginary, and based on lies and laughable misinterpretations.
It is absolutely untrue that basically ANY female in the United States, much less most of them, does not have "access" to tampons. The whole topic is beyond ridiculous. You can walk into any random 99˘ store in any neighborhood in any city in America and get a box of generic tampons for a dollar. Every corner store has tampons, every chain supermarket has tampons, many public bathrooms have tampon machines, every mini-mart has tampons, and on and on and on. Tampons are probably the most widely available and easily obtained products in the United States aside from maybe candy bars. And in most places they're cheap as hell, and cost less per month than a single Big Gulp or a bag of Flamin' Hot Cheetos, which every teenager, even in the poorest neighborhoods, seems to be able to afford.
Second of all, the reason that 86% of women at some point or another got caught in public when their period started is that -- duh -- they weren't expecting to get their periods that day, and didn't bother to bring tampons with them. It was NOT because 86% of women can't afford tampons. The whole justification for this "tampon drive" is false, since the shocking "86%" statistic is being willfully and intentionally misinterpreted.
What's really going on here is two-fold:
Primarily, the goal is to demasculinize black men, to shame them into doing girly things.
One could just as legitimately argue that since most girls can't afford tampons, then most boys also can't afford jock-itch cream and condoms, so let's manipulate the girls into running around and buying and then giving to boys for free a year's supply of jock-itch cream and condoms. Yeah, that sounds dumb, but your tampon project is just as dumb.
Since the girls and the boys are all from the same neighborhood, and thus are on average equally poor (or wealthy), then why is it assumed that the boys have spare money to spend on tampons, while their sisters and girlfriends from the same demographic are all broke? It makes no sense.
The second goal here is to teach black kids that empty, ineffectual "good-will gestures" are a worthwhile form of "virtue signalling" (look it up), and that they should spend their lives not actually doing useful things, but instead engaging in faux-altruistic gestures which they falsely imagine will win them accolades from society at large.
Want to help black youth? Teach them real skills, not how to collect tampons so that white liberals can cluck their approval at how feminist they're being. Teach these kids how to repair cars, how to do basic business accounting, how to program an iPhone app, how to operate a drill-press, how to be polite to customers, how to hammer a nail.
Instead, you're teaching black girls that they're helpless and have to be rescued by boys, and you're teaching black boys to perform in little feminist kabuki dramas for the entertainment of white liberals.
Beyond sickening.

IOW, like the targeted gaystapo cases, this was a setup lawsuit to "get" this pharmacy for not bowing down to the liberals. The circuit court had originally ruled for the pharmacy against the WA law that forced pharmacies to issue any drugs and only allowed them to refuse under a very limited set of circumstances. That ruling was overturned by a liberal appellate court and it then went to SCOTUS which is now 4 liberals who do not give a cap about the law or the constitution and 1 idiot who can't make up his mind.

She was fine. MIL was driving and she pulled out into the road and missed seeing an oncoming car which clipped the front left side. It would have been relatively minor except that it also bent the left axle a small amount making it difficult to steer, but she did manage to get it back.
I guess when she turns it in for repair I will be relegated back to the truck. Good thing I did not get rid of it.

Rolling it back may not be enough. The personal lives of the anti-American progressives have to be disrupted. Like this US attorney in Idaho needs to be fired and disbarred for her threats to citizens. This as many of you know is a quote from one of my colleagues, and this is what I've decided to do:
I'm going to write to her and express my deep disappointment that she thinks so poorly of the laypeople in the churches and her colleagues that she thinks we're all bigots who think not all people are of sacred worth.
Plus, I'll tell her that shouting from the the pulpits and t in the street may negate the idea of love that she is trying to communicate. I rarely feel loved always feel loved by people who are shouting at me..

It's going to take a multigenerational effort to weed out the embedded progressive apparatchiks from the government.
They are entrenched in every nook and cranny and quite frankly it can never be done because of Presidential changeover.
We'd have to go back to a pure spiols system to have any effect.

The problem is not just that we have no opposition party it's quite frankly that the GOP is not really an agenda driven party with principles it wants to advance other than those of its globalist corporate pay masters.
In the last 16 years they have advanced nothing that has a demonstrably positive effect.
I seriously cannot think of a single positive thing that has been accomplished in the last 16 years by Republicans in congress.

I think this would be the equivalent of the reverse Cloward-Piven strategy, maybe call it the Piven-Cloward approach. Basically it requires overwhelming the progressive response system on so many fronts that each response is but a weak squeak, not the carefully crafted aligned journolista coordinated concentrated talking points.
The flaw with this is that the House and Senate can be expected to suddenly find their Constitutional cojones and race each other to see how to control a runaway president. Sadly, I believe that even a GOP majority House and Senate, under the likes of Lyin Ryan's and Turtle McConnell's leadership, would have absolutely no problem with shutting the government down under a Republican Presidency. And of course the progressive press would cheer them on for having evolved while in office!
