Posted by: Bruce With a Wang! at June 29, 2016 07:52 AM (iQIUe) I find it depressing, as I find so many things these days, that the progressives are capable of acting in the most reprehensible manner, from verbal "assaults" to downright physical violence, and there really is no significant public outcry or demand for enforcement of laws aimed at maintaining a civil society. But, I predict, when the first bona fide "white/Christian" conservative goes on a rampage to protect his, or his families, personal safety. The entire might of the uber state, aided by the fifth column press, will come down on all of us with unbelievable quickness and ruthlessness! We have one of these in our basement. And truth be told, they do tip pretty easily if serious attention is not paid to weight distribution in the upper and lower shelves. My guess is that IKEA sells more dressers worldwide than any other furniture manufacturer. Plus the fact that IKEA furniture of this type tends to fall into the "Affordable Starter Furniture"price range. Which attracts those who have little experience with living independently. 45 Do we have word from the Obama Administration on what was the motive behind the Istanbul Airport attack?
My guess on this one: the massive worldwide wave of xenophobia and racism as recently manifested in the Brexit vote caused these poor young men of some (redacted) religion or other to lash out due to the fear and backlash they feel in their peaceful communities. And Trump. That goes without saying. Posted by: WhatWhatWhat? - I speak of the Pompatous of Love at June 29, 2016 08:07 AM (WlGX+) Posted by: J.J. Sefton at June 29, 2016 08:07 AM (p4UlV) 61
"I notice how none of these "new Americans" are being settled in Silicon Valley, Rodeo Drive or Kennebunkport."
Cynically, I just assumed that they were being settled in areas that some large corporations wanted them settled so as to avoid having to fill jobs with H2Bs. This would leave the H2B program available for those communities and employers that don't want them settled in their backyard. Anymore I always look for the ways that the Feds are out to screw people over. I guess I feel comfortable wearing tinfoil hats. Cie le vie Posted by: Usedtocould at June 29, 2016 08:07 AM (VCqKl) 62

Most people with an once of common sense load from bottom to top with the heaviest stuff at the bottom. We had the same problem at work when secretaries would load all the files in the topmost drawer so they would not have to bend over.
We actually had one get a broken foot when it fell and she could not get out of the way fast enough. Lost time accident because stupid. That IKEA chest is supposed to be secured to the wall, but no one ever does that part.
--------------------------- I was thinking about that; you run a couple of wood screws into the drywall, and then sue the drywall company AND Ikea when the furniture tips over. Or you run a couple of wood screws into the studs in the wall, which works until the kid climbing on the furniture gets to be eight or ten years old and weights fifty pounds.... Or you could use a couple of lag bolts which works until the kid climbing on the furniture causes the back panel of the dresser to pull free from the frame . . . breaks down the drawer, and falls. .. or the two hundred pound adult standing on top of the dresser to change a lightbulb. . . Filing cabinets are a worse problem than dressers because they are typically high and deep so a loaded and fully open top drawer really changes the center of gravity. I notice my antique dresser actually has much smaller drawers on the top so unless I put lead bars in there and extended them I would have trouble changing the CG by very much. Posted by: San Franpsycho I dont use their little strap; I use wood screws to attach a small (6") strip of 1x2 to the top piece. Then use the expanding bolt things with a soft washer to fix it to the wall. I pre-drill holes in the 1x2 and the fiberboard backing of the furniture. You need the 1x2 to clear your baseboards. I also run a little battery powered string of xmas LED lights (the tiny kind for decorating displays, maybe 12 lights), down the back. So I can see in the drawers in the morning without waking wife. Batteries last about a year. Big bonus - wife knows we can't rearrange the furniture. Good morning Horde!
I kind of wish that Ace would look at the morning threads, it might help his depression and blood pressure. Suffice it to say that I think he is buying into the media narrative regarding Trump's chances and spiraling into a mind set that isn't borne out by the facts. Anyway, in polling news we have a new poll that has entered the mix. I'm curious if Allah will bother to post about it, since it isn't a "sky is falling" scenario. Quinnapiac released the latest in their polling series and finds Clinton leading Trump 42% to 40%. This is a very significant result, since the last time this poll was run, Clinton was leading 45% to 41%. As I keep pointing out, Trump can't get above 40%, but then Clinton isn't sealing the deal with the voters either. She is shedding support at time goes on, despite that giant outlier ABC poll. Let me point out one possible scenario for November. The people on the edges that recoil from both candidates could end up voting for Johnson or Stienberg in decent numbers as protest votes, allowing one of them to win with around 40% of the vote. I can guarantee that Trump will pull at least 40%, so there is a realistic scenario where that is enough to win. One other possibility that is likely to come into play. People have a way of "getting used to" odd politicians (Boris Johnson is a pretty good example). The GOP voters are getting used to the idea of Trump. With 4 months to go, it is possible that the Independents will do the same, especially when all the "Dump Trump" nonsense is finally put to bed. In any case, the polling numbers do not support abject despair at this point. Clinton is in a very poor position and is a horribly flawed candidate. The media narrative isn't reality. One preelection Brexit poll was off by 14 points from final tally. Add 14 points to Trumps 40 and Hillary gets trounced resoundingly. Brown has to decide whether to allow the manson killer out of prison. They use to be very tough on parole of murderers. After years of appeals, they got the courts to agree that they had to be paroled if qualified. The argument was that they were not sentenced to life without the possibility of parole. But in this Va Houton chick, she was sentenced to death and only became eligible for parole bc the courts had determined that the death penalty as written at the time was unconstitutional. So, I hope they do argue that she is ineligible for parole.

artisanal 'ette - The problem for Clinton is she spent $23M and dropped in her polling.
I'd rather Trump spend money putting out ads that sell the themes he was using in his speech the other day. I think they would help a lot. But Clinton isn't getting benefit from all the money she is spending. Posted by: Dave in Fla at June 29, 2016 08:40 AM (VnCtJ) One of the big reasons Clinton is not getting as high as a ROI is that she is in the news for Benghazi and the email scandal - that's obvious. She's been washed of all sins by the media of Benghazi at this point. But with her endless pile of money and the media on her side, she can still win. She should be toast by now with all that is going on. The money is still helping her tremendously. Money talks. Hopefully Trump is waiting to hit the airwaves in battle ground states after the convention. I assume that is what is happening. The GOP is not behind him, so there is not much money to spend right now. And ground troops. It's nice to read even some of the Cruz campaign is helping out with this. He needs to step up his game. 496 "It is time for those who follow Jesus to drown out hate-filled, fear-mongering rhetoric with the gospel of love. It is time to shout in the streets and from our pulpits that all people are of sacred worth, and any belief to the contrary is irreconcilable with Christian teachings. "
_______________________ You can love people while disagreeing with them. You can love people while abhorring their destructive behavior. You can love people while telling them "no." If you were a parent and had a child who was screaming "I hate you!" while trying to slap your face and spitting at you, would you say "that's okay, Junior, because I love you, so you just keep doing what you're doing because it would be un-Christian of me to try to stop you"? Of course you wouldn't. You would tell Junior to go to his room and stay there until he composed himself and was willing to behave in a civilized manner. You wouldn't apologize to Junior and tell him that YOU were the reason he was so hostile and aggressive, and that you clearly needed to say more nice things about him, so that he would have higher self-esteem, and give him a more generous allowance and more expensive toys, so that he didn't have reason to feel so hateful towards you. If you had a neighbor who screaming all over the neighborhood that you are an a-hole, and was throwing rocks into your windows, and bringing his dog over to crap on your front porch every morning, would you say "Gee, Neighbor, because I'm a good Christian and it's my duty to love everybody, I'm going to invite you to move into my house and live with me, and I'm going to give you my ATM card and password, because I obviously need to show you that we're all part of the same human family"? Love doesn't mean becoming someone else's doormat or punching bag. It also doesn't mean becoming their slave, or their sugar-daddy. In fact, doing those things is most un-loving, because it shows that you don't respect the other person, and that you don't believe in their integrity. If you really love someone, then you should be willing to deal honestly with them. And that means telling them when their behavior is unacceptable to you. Islam is a misogynistic, homophobic, anti-Semitic, anti-Christian, violent, supremacist ideology. That is a fact, and it is not un-Christian to recognize and acknowledge that fact. It doesn't mean we hate Muslims, but it does mean that we strongly disagree with their belief system. If there are some Muslims who want to come to the U.S. and they are willing to respect our culture and our laws and behave accordingly, then most of us have no problem with that. But inviting in millions of Muslims who openly loathe us and despise our culture, and who are actively working to undermine us -- or even kill us -- is simply insanity. And it is not "un-Christian" to point that out, and to oppose it. Posted by: TrivialPursuer at June 29, 2016 08:59 AM (NnYnv) 221

Now, anyone whos ever filed an unemployment claim knows full well that being fired for misconduct nullifies ones eligibility to collect benefits. Not in Clicks self-entitled mind, however. In my case it is not Islamophobia - which implies an irrational fear of Islam - but rather simple disgust bordering on white hot hatred. I don't fear Islam - they are the worst fighters in the world. Every time Islam encounters the Armies of the non Islamic world - they lose. In WWII the Italians kicked Islamic ass. The Hindus regularly pound the Pakistanis into the mud. The Israelis - horribly outnumbered and surrounded - beat the Islamic countries like rented mules.
Islam is reduced to terror attacks because they literally have nothing else. They can't win any kind of armed conflict against anyone - because a culture in which everyone is lying to everyone else is hardly and effective fighting force. I despise the word "Islamophobia". Free trade among diverse countries is a utopian dream. It might work as a mental exercise, but in reality it fails. Let's say, the US made one item (the super widget) each year, that was made by one person, that we traded overseas and represented our entire economy. Then we had to import everything else. Would we have a healthy economy? An economist will look at the GDP number and tell you yes. Smoot Hawley wasn't the reason for the depression. We had far less trade then and the change in trade was only a couple of points. Posted by: WOPR - Nationalist at June 29, 2016 09:45 AM (Ee2nz) 392

But they're never going to do that. Or, you could calculate the price advantage that China has by polluting their air, water, and people unfettered. Insanity is built into Islam.
They keep screaming their god is the greatest. But their 'chosen' son - Ishmael - lost his birthright to a younger half-brother. Then there is Esau's lost birthright. They deny a human can ever 'know' any bit of their god, he is beyond this world yada yada yada... then when a righteous person of Islam dies and ascends that thread to face judgement, their god can still say 'nah, to Hell with you.' The Italians used chemical weapons in Ethiopia, the Spanish used them in Morocco - the Spanish dropped mustard gas "candles" from airplanes onto hamlets and farmsteads.
I am not sure if the French used them at all, but they might not have wanted to. Italians and the Spanish got mustard from the Germans who supposedly weren't making it any more. Most of the small colonial bushfire wars in the 20's seemed to have used chem in some way. Except, I believe the Gran Chaco war between Paraguay and Bolivia. >>So we do nothing and let China fuck us in perpetuity? That's a good plan.
We do some of you insist we either implement tariffs, which never work, or do nothing? Is this how you do business, either you let me do something stupid or I do nothing! Businesses do deals every day around the world. They are forced to negotiate deals that are mutually beneficial or they don't do a deal. They don't just say, sure, bone me in the ass or I'll do something stupid. We have an excellent example of tariffs implemented during Obama's term. Obama accused the Chinese of dumping tires in the US so he implemented a tariff on Chinese tires. The most comprehensive study I've seen said it worked! If you consider that at most the tariffs "saved or created" 1200 jobs (a dubious claim) and only cost US taxpayers about $1.1 billion dollars. Super. http://tinyurl.com/hwvxumf Tariffs represent a fundamental manipulation of capital and resources. They don't happen in a vacuum and they don't come without consequences. The reason we have so many bad trade deals is moron lawyers like Obama and his team have been negotiating them for decades. The choice isn't status quo or tariffs, the choice is status quo or putting someone in the job who understands how business actually works and letting them negotiate better deals. This was one of Romney's biggest selling points. It should be The Donald's but he's off to a bad start. Ethiopia isn't Muslim anyways or it at least has a large Christian population. Posted by: WOPR - Nationalist at June 29, 2016 10:43 AM (Ee2nz) 501

Obligatory faux shocked face: O_O Then I guess it's too bad Kerry already shot his mouth off and warned Assad he had to start transitioning out of power by August 1st or else ... or else ... hmmm, or else something would happen, but I've now forgotten what Kerry said. I'm sure Assad has too. Posted by: Blacksheep at June 29, 2016 10:55 AM (8/DeP) Processing 0.07, elapsed 0.0915 seconds. |
