37 I notice that those brawling parents all look like Obama. Is that a "thing"?

It's Brooklyn.

A couple of weeks ago I went to such a "ceremony" for grade school kids. It's in Northern Virginia though, so no outright fisticuffs...though yes, parents did get there two hours early for a prime photography spot, some did bring DSLRs mounted on tripods, and the jostling was more passive aggressive than physical.

Lots of blame to spread. I also blame the schools for making this a big deal. I told my kid that I'll celebrate him graduating high school and then college if he should go, but I'm not making a big deal out of a dumb elementary school graduation. Left unsaid was my opinion that no way are they going to hold some kid back, so the "achievement" is meaningless.

42 Panama Canel expansion opens Sunday.
Chinese fire drill imminent.

comes at one of the most difficult financial times for the shipping industry. Shipping costs have plummeted as international trade falters, in part due to the economic slowdown in China

Lost in translation.
Shipping costs down should be record profits for the shipping industry. Ok, no. Freight rates down meaning less revenue for shipping companies. Because China is shipping less and the shipping industry has more capacity than current market conditions demand. So the answer is more shipping capacity. Ok, no. Older vessels are being replaced by new, larger vessels which increase capacity while lowering costs, but it is still a disaster because optimism doesn't sell ads.

It's going to be great is a losing campaign which means that Hillary will be our next president.

99 POS low-flow shower valves.

Put in a new shower last year and the only valves readily at Home Depot available were some low flow type. The one be I picked was not true low flow but still limited so it wasn't too bad. Now something inside that limits the flow valve has changed past couple weeks and flow is notably less, probably 30%. Will be taking it out soon and looking for a normal valve that doesn't limit flow, if they even make them. Otherwise it might mean ripping out tile to make my own two handle design but the low flow BS is worse than useless.

The eco freaks in Atlanta are completely unaware that lowering your water use changes absolutely nothing Water is taken out of a reservoir north of the city and treated water put back in the river downstream. Water is released from the dam daily to control river flow so using more or less water in your house changes nothing of the water use from the lake. Besides, home use accounts for a small percentage of water taken from the lake, less than 10% and these low flow devises do little to reduce that small percentage. One burst main water line releases more water that all the water saved by the low flow devices in a month.

But none of this is really about conserving water. It is about reducing Americans living standard and getting used to things like lousy showers with crappy flow, just like a third world country.

So what do you do? You crank up the heat, and use higher temperature water, increasing net energy usage.

151 Good Morning Horde, welcome to Monday

I've been not bothering you with polling updates for a few weeks, because I felt there wasn't really much point to it. Between the Dem race wrapping up, the Trump judge nonsense, Orlando, and BRexit, I felt there was too much flux in the polls to give them much meaning.

Also, I live in Central Florida and one of my daughter's close friends was killed in the Orlando attack. Life has been very busy during the last two weeks dealing with her loss, and all of the funeral and memorial plans.

In any case, it is worthwhile to take a look at where the polling sits going into the conventions.

First of all the top line number, the RCP average shows Clinton leading 46.1% to 39.4% for an average lead of 6.7%. This isn't too far off from where the race stood in April.

If you listen to the NeverTrumpers and media, this sounds like a disaster for Trump. However, looking at the trends the race really hasn't changed much. Much of the variation is because there are many more polls in the average now, back in May there were only 5, now we see over 10.

Trump's numbers really haven't changed much, he is still hovering around 40%. He managed to get up to 41% before and is slightly below it now. Obviously, this isn't great, since it shows he got no benefit from the Orlando terrorist attack, but it isn't a disaster. Clinton on the other hand keep bouncing all over the place.

By the way, my personal opinion on why the Dems have jumped on the doomed gun control kick is because it distracts from the terrorism angle. If the GOP wants to help Trump, then they need to push the terrorism angle, because the media and Dem (BIRM) are changing the subject.

In the RCP average there are some really questionable polls that are making my scratch my head on what they are doing. For example, the ABC poll that Allahpundit is using the flog the Trump camp with shows Clinton 51% and Trump 39%. The last time this poll was run the result was Clinton 44% and Trump 46%. I'm sorry, but I can't believe a 14 point swing in a month. This looks like an outlier to me.

If you look at other polls and their historic shifts you can get a better idea of what is going on (Clinton is always the first number).

NBC - from 46-43 to 46-41
Rassmussen - from 39-38 to 44-39
CNN/ORC - from 54-41 to 47-42
CBS - from 47-41 to 43-37
Gravis - from 48-46 to 51-49

Other than Gravis (who managed to find 0% undecided), what I'm seeing is a general reduction in the "noise" around Clinton's numbers due to her finally putting Sanders away, and a slight softening of Trump's numbers. This is probably from the same source, Sanders voters who were saying "I'll vote for Trump first!" now realizing that they were always going to vote for the Dem nominee.

Just ballparking and ignoring the obviously strange poll results, I think that we are generally at Clinton around 45 and Trump around 40. This is where things stood in April.

There is plenty of opportunity for Trump to swing this election to him, but he needs to start campaigning. He has wasted the last two months, and Clinton has a huge cash and organizational advantage on him. If he doesn't change the dynamics of the race, then he will lose this race in November. It won't be a blow out, but it will still be a loss.

One last note, the odds of the Dems retaking the Senate dimmed quite a bit. Both Rubio and Toomey are looking like they will easily win reelection. A lot is going to depend on who the GOP nominates in Nevada. With 3 wins in those states, the GOP will end up with 51 seats.

Las Vegas legends Siegfried and Roy are to be the subject of a biographical miniseries. Siegfried Fischbacher and Roy Uwe Horn will exec produce the story of their lives.

The pair met on a cruise ship in 1960 and developed their first joint show, driven by a shared passion for the art of magic and illusion. From 1990, they headlined Vegas Mirage Hotel featuring their trademark white tigers in the show. In 2003, the artists career was brought to an abrupt halt when Roy was critically injured by one of the animals; this will all be covered in the mini.

Good morning!

In Judicial Watch watch, Huma is deposed tomorrow.

I expect this invaluable keeper of appointments, maker of phone calls, raiser of funds, knower of names, minder of bodies, and all-around human Rolodex to be flanked by half a dozen lawyers objecting to the scope of every question and instructing her not to answer just so that she can sweetly tell opposing counsel over and over that she can't remember or doesn't know anything about Hillary's private email account.

It seems to me that the less Hillary's aides reveal, the more persistent the gaps will be in Judicial Watch's picture of the whole arrangement -- which would make it more likely that Hillary herself will be subpoenaed.

Of course she's pretty good at dissing lawyers herself and making such occasions part of the narrative -- "Republicans try yet again to knock Hillary down, Hillary triumphs despite their thuggish, sexist tactics."

Anyway, I used to be feel satisfaction at the prospect of people like Huma being deposed, but I feel the opposite now. I see these episodes as continued losses in the crusade for truth, justice, and the defeat of the corrupt Clinton machine.

181 So looking at search results for improving low flow shower heads is enlightening.

Actual clinical proof that those fine spray patterns do indeed allow the individual droplets to cool excessively in mid air, causing roughly a 10% increase in energy use due to needing initially higher temperature water out the nozzle to give cooler water at the skin.

Also, those multi headed shower towers with three to five separate nozzles that are becoming popular?

Each separate nozzle is restricted to a max of 2.5 gallons per minute, not the total consumption of all of them.

So, with a five head tower?

12.5 Gallons per minute of perfectly legal luxury.

It's how they see themselves. And you're right, I think. If you look at the EU, as an example, that whole model is fraught with the lie of the efficiency of central planning for more effective use of limited resources. To a normal, non-globalist, student of the history of socialist failures, it's totally intuitive, especially in the case of the EU. Not only is it central planning, but it is atomic central planning with 27 countries trying to come to agreement on shit that impacts all of them in completely different ways. It's a formula for disaster with the only way to keep people in line is through coercion. Like all large socialist political structures. Excluding Venezuela, of course, which is a current beacon of socialist success.

232 Anyone can catch a bullet, I suppose.

The article does a semi-decent job of illustrating the battle between Stage 1 and Stage 3 or 4 thinkers over implementation of this policy. Let's do some Stage 2 or Stage 3 Thinking here -

Trannies (transitioning ones and post-op) need surgery and medications, including hormones injections regularly to keep up the charade. So how do you get those out in the filed actually, ya know, facing bullets? Or in a desert? How can they serve tours of duty overseas or in combat, when they "have to" go under the knife progressively? They can't accommodate diabetics, how are they going to do this? If they are just the gender dysphoria "who I am, I don't know" variety, why would you want someone so clearly mentally unbalanced put in stressful situations with others lives at risk?

It's all a show, a lefty virtue signalling with govt. funded addadictomes and choppadickoffames thrown in.

See, this is what happens when a business or institution is converged with SJW progressive lefties - the organization no longer focuses on its mission statement (National Defense) and become focused on serving an political agenda (gays, trannies, etc.) at the cost of the mission statement. It's why ESPN can't give a sports update without pushing leftism. It's why university's can't tell special snowflakes to nut up. It's why every form of media is pushing lefty messages ("Message!"). And it's why people are tuning out.

Yes, you read that right. The bill, passed by the Hawaiian legislature under the influence of Kona and lots of Ganga, then signed by the governor while he was wearing his flowered shirt and lei, requires any new gun purchaser in the state of Hawaii to be enrolled in the FBI criminal data base, the privilege of which will be paid for by the gun purchaser.
Never mind that Fed law prohibits creating a registration list of gun owners. No matter. Hawaii assumes that simply by buying a gun, you must be monitored (this list is monitored by numerous law enforcement agencies) because you are likely to be a criminal.

Is. These numbers are neither speculative nor secret.

It's interesting to see the "Trump doesn't understand advertising" meme continue to play after he turned campaign PR on its head in the primaries and gave that Clinton presser, which was universally applauded.

He doesn't need a big clunky $100,000,000.00 advertising campaign. He needs to keep making viral advertising on social media, holding big elaborate pressers that the media can't help themselves but cover, work the talk shows, and pour his money into a GOTV effort. Recent campaign hires (and fires... and happy warrior Lewandowski now WORKS FOR CNN lol) and his Hillary presser make it look like he's doing exactly that.

Another thing that I'm not sure many conservatives understand is the incredible amount of traction that Trump's army of social media supporters have gained. Reddit completely changed its ranking algorithm in a transparent attempt to stifle pro-Trump content and have been caught with their pants down systematically censoring information about Orlando, Brexit, and Islam generally, to the consternation of the site's normally left-of-Bernie inhabitants.

295 The flaw of democracy is that it lets people make bad decisions for themselves. The flaw of totalitarianism is that it lets a few people make bad decisions for everyone else.

Richard Cheese, a novelty act?

Blasphemy.

By the way, if you ever get the opportunity to see Richard Cheese and Lounge Against The Machine live, don't miss 'em. They're loads of fun.

297 My wife found her 94 year old mother passed away in her car this morning.

It appears she was putting her new registration away in the glove box when she either had a stroke or heart attack. For some reason the car was locked with the keys in the ignition, so the fire department had to break one of the rear windows.

Everyone should hope for a life like she had. Perfect health, just stopped wearing high heels a few years ago, owned two successful corporations, went to work every day just for fun.

My wife would stop by every morning to get her wig on straight and help her get ready for the day. We were away this weekend with the grandkids at a water park, so we hadn't spoke with her since Friday.

300 Condolences jwest. Sounds like she had a life well lived; we should all do so well.

301 Wouldn't it be refreshing if the liberal justices on the SCOTUS jealously protected the 2nd amendment as well as they protect a right created from the umbra of privacy? Just imagine changing abortion to the right to keep and bear arms; Ginsberg's quote would then be something like this:

These laws do little or nothing for health, but rather strew impediments to gun rights, cannot survive judicial inspection.

How refreshing that would be. I won't hold my breath.

But of course, GUNS!, so laws that infringe on the right to keep and bear arms are okay to them.

302 After having read the "genius award" transcript I would like to nominate it for the "feel good" award.
