Ben Domench: How the Establishment (and Would-Be Establishment, the Aspirational Establishment Types) Delude Themselves Into Thinking All of Their Failures Are Huge Wins the Public Should Be Grateful For

This crew has only two modes: failure and then self-flattery for that failure.

Really sharp -- and nasty -- piece by Ben Domench.

Consider it well in light of the #Brexit fiasco. The Masters of Europe were all pretty certain they were delivering great value to the citizens of Europe -- and when the citizens of Europe told them otherwise, they consoled themselves by reassuring themselves that mere citizens are idiots, barely above animal level in reasoning power, and entirely unequipped to rate the performance of the True Elites.

Ergo, George Soros Parliament will order ANOTHER vote soon. (After we can plan the vote-fixing).

19 Another bullseye, excerpted at Powerline:

Levels of dissatisfaction with leadership have reached revolutionary levels. It's a paradox of mass modern democracy that voters feel themselves governed by rulers who 'neither see nor feel nor know,' a political-business nexus that feeds on itself and promotes its own interests while mouthing platitudes at election time to keep the populace at bay. In Europe and the U.S. today, traditional political authority is worn like a scarlet letter...

The very idea that the state has a primary obligation to its native citizens has become unfashionable and virtually unsayable within the tightly controlled bounds of political correctness...

21 We talk about this problem all this time here, of why the ruling elites don't get it. The GOPe has been slapped around consistently beginning wit the Tea Parties, then the Cantor and Boehner hits and the constant carping about the performance of Turtle/Ryan. Yet, they keep saying the same crap.

How can people be this stupid, and so completely insulated from politics, when they are politicians?!

Domenech has a great essay here. Americans are sick and tired of the administrative state, because it's toxic (EPA), incompetent (DHS) and aggressively hurtful (IRS). Americans are anti-immigration, because for forty years the government has promised to control borders and have failed. "Just get a fucking grip, that's all we ask", say the voters, and politicians respond with "Squirrel!".

Hopefully, fixing this will be easy. An election or three. Otherwise it'll be hard. And I, for one, hope we avoid "hard".

31 I see the Brexit vote exactly as the rise of Trump - an entire generation or two has experienced diminishing rewards for employment while another group has reaped the rewards.

It should not shock the sensibilities of those who have been handsomely rewarded for 'outsourcing employment' that others object to their methods.

81 The big responses I am seeing from the lefties I monitor are along the lines of the following: people not smart enough to understand the issues, or people believing lies they are told by others. The fixes implied are that people should not vote on complicated issues (one lefty even implied having different levels of voting privileges), or controlling information that is put out to the public (to prevent lies, of course). All very Orwellian.

Intelligentsia is probably the most accurate term, because it refers to people who are attempting to change and lead the culture, and not necessarily in step with the population at large.

I made just that argument to a lefty. Do I have the right to a say-so in how to allocate his family's resources? No - because I did not contribute to them, and so have no skin in the game.

If I did, I'd vote to have him buy me a new car, pay for a posh vacation for me, remodel my house, woot! The sky is the limit, and price is no object.

Yet that's exactly what we do now. People who pay no taxes, nor have contributed in kind (by, e.g., serving in the military) have a say in how resources to which they have not contributed should be allocated.

182 Too many elites were trained in law, public policy, and foreign policy at Ivy League Schools plus a few other schools. It created a group think among them that dominates both political parties. So they disagree in degrees on political matters, but the general theme is still the same.

The best example is foreign policy. The foreign policies of Obama and Bush may appear different in approach, but the themes are the same. Lots of interventions, over weighted significance of the importance of the Middle East (in the age of fracking), free trade deals that go well beyond anything related to trade, etc. - in other words Wilsonian internationalism run wild. So wild in fact that giving away American sovereignty and money to the internationalist utopia is accepted in both parties as normal, and to question it is is a sign of "Nazism combined with Isolationism, mixed in with some strange form of Marxism" that must be stamped out.

That is just one example!

One of my all-time favorite acronym repurposings came from the various zones of unrest in West Africa in the 1990s. A "peacekeeping" group called ECOMOG, made up of subunits from a couple of different African militaries, was dispatched to try to restore regional stability.

even crazy Piers Morgan got it

No wonder Trump looks happy - Britain's exit from Europe should leave Hillary Clinton shaking in her boots and Donald knows it!

...Regardless of what you think of Trump's inflammatory rhetoric, and his uncompromising talk of walls and bans, does anybody really doubt after this shock Brexit result that he's right about the levels of anger?

It may not be obvious to the political and media elites living in their hallowed, protected homes in privileged areas.

But travel to the north of England, or to the middle of America, and you will find very real fury with government and very real concern over the impact of perceived immigration control failures.

There's an increasing large gulf between the politically correct 'cool' and 'establishment' crowd who view any publicly stated concern about border controls as 'racism', and those who have to live at the sharp end of it.

The clear message from this sensational day for any politician or world leader is this: ignore the concerns of the people at your peril.
...
What none of the UK pollsters, bookmakers and city experts realised was there was a huge groundswell of anger which was going to tip the balance away from their presumed favourite.

I don't endorse Trump for president, not least because of his stance on guns.

But this bombshell Brexit result should send a shudder down the spine of Hillary Clinton and all U.S. Democrats

If it can happen in Britain, it can most definitely happen in America.

Today's market reaction is all about the effects on monetary control. There will be winners and losers falling out of the change, but the general immediate decline in stock value and especially banks is because the big investors are thinking the jig will be up sooner than otherwise with the Fed and the European Central Bank. If you flood your economies with massive amounts of credit to prop up asset prices and the banks, then in order to keep inflation at bay you need to have massive, demography-changing influx of cheap third world labor, you need to move your production of goods and services to dollar-a-day countries and you need cheap energy. If the citizens of the First World countries are rejecting the latter, the central bankers can no longer maintain the former.

Just like how the Dems, the US government and Fannie/Freddie destroyed credit standards in the residential mortgage markets in the name of affirmative action and dumbfucks like Senator Obama (D-Fannie Mae) (who took the most money from Fannie out of all 100 senators) never had the finger pointed at them.

I'm so bad I haven't gotten rid of my son's little Matchbox car-cars, and he's in his 20s. We would save the auto ads from the Sunday paper, and he would play with his car-cars on the car paper.

My brothers had scads of Matchbox and Hotwheels, plus--Tonka trucks!

One time my sister threw a Tonka at our youngest brother. He asked for it, but back then those things were solid metal.

511 The globalists on Special Report are insufferable.

Krauthammer argued that the stupid, bumbling Brexiters are ultimately going to lead to the end of the UK when Scotland and N. Ireland decide to leave. So apparently the Neocons would rather see the United Islamic Kingdom of Shithole Britain than for the British to control the political fate of their own country.

Trump today made the point that the weaker Pound would mean stronger tourism, including for Turnberry, and more competitive goods and services sold by the UK. Steve Hayes interpreted this as Trump crowing about Turnberry doing well notwithstanding an economic downturn in the UK and defended Obama from Trump's criticism.

How long before Bill Kristol and Steve Hayes are appointed to Hillary's fundraising committee?

Posted by: Golfman at June 24, 2016 07:51 PM (48QDY)"

Well, actually it is 40 acres and a mule but, yes, that is the general idea. Have a lottery to give away most of the federal land in 40 acre lots to the descendants of slaves. For added entertainment value, write into the law that the 40 acre lots can only be given to a family which is defined as one man and one woman and their children legally married by an ordained Christian priest or minister or Jewish rabbi. When the ACLU inevitably blocks it in court, release a statement that the Democrats will not let you get your chance to own 40 acres of oil wells in ANWR because they do not respect black preachers.

Even if it never gets passed, it will be lots of fun to see the Democrats arguing against it in Congress and on TV.

I worked a part time job when I was 12, so I had a little bit of money. My parents were also strict about sweets.

There was a one off bakery in our town that made killer chocolate chip cookies. I would buy a twelve pack of them (diameter of a softball) and hide them from brother and 2 sisters at home. Well, my Mom found them when she was cleaning searching my room. Mom told Dad, and he demanded I take a drug test because I must be getting high or something. Good times.

745 Too many elites were trained in law, public policy, and foreign policy at Ivy League Schools plus a few other schools.

In other words, sophistry. They're trained to find the magic words which will enable a win. There is no such thing as right and wrong.

When both sides are sophists, what does a victory even mean? What do 'sides' even mean? They can probably swap back and forth seamlessly. I know that the real world can play no part in their machinations because then you'd have something measurable, a yardstick that would clearly say, hey, you fucked up.

Anyways, that's what built up over dinner. Probably means there's a new thread.
